Always a pleasure to visit this very busy cafe located on a narrow country road near Mountnorris. Welcoming staff and host. Home baking at its best. I always have the prawn open sandwich with strawberry & rhubarb tart and a coffee to finish. You may have to wait for a table but it's well worth it!

We live in Staffordshire and visit Bide A While every time we are in Ireland to visit family. We make sure our visits are towards the end of the week when this tea room is openThe ambience is perfect and staff are so genuinely welcoming and helpful. Salads are just perfect and lovely and fresh. Cakes now they are worth a special mention. They are homemade, fresh and gorgeous. The gluten free options are fabulous with no scrappy wee brownies wrapped in cellophane on offer. They are the same quality as the other cakes with lots of choice available. My father is very deaf but loves going to Bide A While and is made so welcome it really is a treat for him.Thank you Sharon and other staff members you go the extra mile with quality food and hospitality and it is appreciated.See you again soon

No room on plate to butter my toast. The tea & coffee we got was as usual excellent but I won’t be back for breakfast but will return often for morning coffee or lunch. I found this cafe on Tripadvisor. I sent my wife and sister to check it out a couple of weeks back for guests we had coming to stay. The reviews were glowing. The pictures of the food highly encouraging. So we visited yesterday with our guests and it didn't disappoint. You'd be be forgiven for thinking your GPS had went haywire and was leading you on a merry dance up the the single track country lane. Rest assured it isn't. Tucked away with limited parking for the busiest times doesn't sell it i know. It is worth the effort. The salads and toasted sanwiches are very good but i don't want to linger on them. If you have a sweet tooth this is a must visit. We tried 4 different home made cakes and it is not unfair to describe them all as excellent. I'm 37 and it is over 20 years since i have come across a homemade dessert selection this good in Northern Ireland. My son got a nutty cake that is as good a cake as i've ever had. My wife is amazing at carrot cake. She said Bide a While's is better than hers and whilst it was close run she is being fair. Choclate Orange Cake and White Choclate and Raspberry Cake also sampled. The atmosphere is relaxed. The decor country and quirky. The service warm and friendly. The value excellent. Sometimes Tripadvisor gets your hopes up and the reality doesn't meet expectation. Expectation met and exceeded.

WHOOP! WHOOP! WHOOP! This place in actual fact deserves about 7 stars. It is FAB!!!! Okay, lets get down to brass tacks here, it is a bit off the beaten track, but you know me I will go to Hell in an hand basket for a good bun and or traybake (wasnt Helena Handbasket a 1970s drag queen??) its a short jaunt off the main road between Bessbrook and Mountnorris, look it up on Google maps or the AA road atlas or ask the sat nav woman to bring you to the door of Bide A While. You really will thank me, honestly this place will put most other eateries in the shade. Some lovely lady decided to build a large annex off the side of her house, now dont get me wrong this is no place for Anne Frank, its a large brightly lit airy conservatory type off shoot from the main house, lovely little tables and chairs not so crammed together that you feel you are almost having sex with the people sitting beside you like in some places I've been. Decor is bright and welcoming, tastefully furnished and with a distinctive homely feel without it being like sitting in your Grannys parlour. Now onto the menu. Tea, coffee and scones £1.50 ONE POUND FIFTY!!??? What, are we back in 1967? Too cheap! Slices of cake £2 and traybakes £1 I mean COME ON, this place is waaaaaay under priced for the absolute quality of stuff you are getting served up. We had soup and 2 THICK slices of the most delicious wheaten bread, a toasted sandwich and side salad, tea for 2, lemon cake and a humungous slice of apple tart, all for £12.80 I mean you just would not get it anywhere else.

My wife & I visited for lunch today. The setting is fantastic, perched on top of a hill with fabulous views across the rolling scenery. Outside there is ample parking & a play area for the kids.Inside the tearoom is bright & spacious, & the high ceiling is ornamented with unique chandeliers! The homemade vegetable soup was thick, creamy & delicious. It was served with 2 thick doorsteps of wonderful wheaten bread. The selection of cheeses with wheaten bread was a generous portion, with so much cheese I had to ask for more wheaten. The Apple pie was delicious, while the scones were light, airy & very tasty.Service was wonderful & friendly. All the above, plus a tea & coffee, came to less than £15. Extremely reasonable for the quality of the food on offer. You can buy wheaten bread to bring home & I strongly advise that you do. It's the most tasty wheaten I've ever experienced. Our first visit today & it certainly won't be our last. Thrilled to find this gem on our doorstep!

I was there for a pre-booked evening meal; my wife was with me but has also been many times during the day when snacks rather than full meals are served. The foot was superbly cooked and the proprietor was on hand to ensure that we had all we needed. My wife has established that she caters for all kinds of diets, food to hand includes pastry which is gluten free, dairy free, egg free and wheat free.

Had been meaning to go for a long while! Had the most beautiful raspberry and white chocolate scone, followed by rhubarb and strawberry tart and washed down by a cappuchino. Very reasonably priced. Just hope I can find my way back as i have said to several people we will have to go!

This is my 3rd visit to Bide a While and I had absolutely no complaints, visited with my mum and daughter for their 1st time on this occasion and they were more than pleased with it. Had to wait a short while on a table becoming available but in my opinion this is a good sign! Soup was lovely and I would also highly recommend the chocolate brownie because it was amazing!!

Took the train from Ballymena to Newry on recommendation from a friend. We then decided to walk from Newry Station to Bide A While for a tasty meal. We were not disappointed. When we arrived it was immediately obvious that this is a very popular spot as although it was well past lunch time the tea room only had one vacant table. We were greeted with lovely cheerful staff and made to feel very much at home on entering the premises. The order was taken promptly and delivered to the table quickly and was really tasty. Our biggest problem was deciding what we wanted as it all sounded so appealing including the deserts. If you are in the area please take the time to call at the tea room as we can assure you, you will not be disappointed.
