Food brilliant and great service would definitely recommend

Forth visit in a year. Superb food and service as usual. Genuine French atmosphere with knowledgeable input from Greg on wine pairings. We are very lucky to have this very special place in Northumberland. So much better an experience than the local Michelin stars.

Not all great, not all bad. Waited far too long for a drink, wine served after starters arrived. Had to repeat requests for ice/butter etc. My starter was not anything other than average, but main course was absolutely delicious. I found it just a little pretentious.

Highly rated by some, but we can't see why. Arrived at 7pm on a Tuesday without a reservation. Plenty of tables were free, but we were seated at probably the smallest table in the place, next to the door for the toilets. Other diners were seated nearer the front of the restaurant, had their coats taken, wine glasses topped up. Such pleasantries were not offered to us because....we were obviously in the naughty corner. Onion soup starter was average. My wife's vegetarian choice was effectively mashed potato topped vegetables, she didn't eat it & we didn't pay for it. My pork was ok. On getting the bill, we asked why we were seated by the toilets. Apparently, all the other tables were booked for 8.30 & we left at 8.15pm... The maitre d was very abrupt & lacking any charm. No, we don't recommend it.

A little piece of France in Hexham. I’d had a number of friends taking about this restaurant and the food so, I inevitably had to go! Bookings only as it gets busy and now Ive been, I understand. The place is well presented, the staff are attentive and the food is…… outstanding!! If you haven’t been, book and that’s my sincere review because I’m going back.

Absolutely delicious!!! The choice of starters and mains is huge and very traditional. I’m French and I can tell you, this was authentic delicious food. They even have quenelles! So hard to find in the UK and they were excellent. Gutted we live too far to come every month!

Excellent food and service from Jordan. The owner is arrogant and needs to listen. When he became very pedantic about how i wanted my steak cooked, I didn't expect it to arrive cooked medium when asked for it rare.

A great restaurant serving French classics. Very comfortable and stylish dining rooms: perfect for a cosy dinner on a cold and dark winter night (though also great for a slightly boozy afternoon lunch...). Good wine list with a decent variety served in 500cl carafes.

Haven’t been for as few years. It’s not just as good, but better. Simple, yet sophisticated French food. What a delight. Charming staff and lovely atmosphere. Just sorry we’re not local anymore.

I first came here 13 years ago and it’s nice to see that standard have been maintained. I had le douzaine and a confit, with notably good French 65 and Pinot Blanc, a reasonable Bourgogne and a good Montbazillac.

Another wonderful evening at Bouchon. The staff are lovely, the atmosphere fantastic and the food is really special. Bouchon is our “go to” place for special family occasions but on our latest visit there were just two of us and we had a great evening. A special “shout out”for Jordan who is fantastic. Thank you Greg for another great meal.

Could not have had a better experience from Bouchon! The staff, the owner, the food, the atmosphere was just fantastic and we could not fault! My husband chose to go from the A la Carte menu and I chose the Christmas Fayre menu! The turkey cordon bleu was one of the best dishes I have had and it was accompanied with a varied side of roasted vegetables! This was great and was very tempted to ask the owner for the recipe. My husband went for scallops to start and venison for a main. He said there is no where in hexham which could top this meal. We were sat upstairs and served by an amazing waiter and waitress who made us feel at home as soon as we had arrived, with smiles on their faces but yet a very professional experience especially on a busy night. Big shoutout to them both, absolutely amazing! The owner of bouchon was also fabulous aswell and was very kind to ourselfs and the kids- you could tell that he really cared! And to top it off, the kids and the husband had some amazing desserts- tarte tatin, coupe bouchon and ice cream & sorbets which were great! I ended the night with an amazing espresso martini from the bar- which was absolutely gorgeous! Cannot recommend bouchon enough! Best restaurant in hexham and we are very lucky to have it.

Dinner for four in a full restaurant, not cheap but not really expensive for what was expected. Service excellent and food generally good BUT I ordered the most expensive item on the menu, goose breast as I had never had it before; sadly it was so tough as to be inedible. I brought this to the attention of the waiter and left the meat largely untouched. My experience was therefore severely compromised when there was no offer to remove the dish from the bill, or comp as dessert (which costs very little) or even get an apology from the manager - and the service charge was still added to the bill (I left it on as I didn’t want to cause a scene for my companions)! So the moral is, it should be a reasonable experience but if it goes wrong don’t expect the manager to give a damn!

The food is okay but small portions and very overpriced. It can be a bit hit-and-miss but meat options are typically good. The main issue, however, is the manager who can present as very rude and arrogant, especially if customers feel there’s something that could be improved on. He sees this, always, as illegitimate fault-finding for some odd reason, as opposed to a way of improving service. I’m another customer who won’t return due to his awful attitude. ‘The Natural Grocer’ in Hexham offers a far friendlier, excellent quality eating establishment as a recommended alternative where the owner clearly wants you to enjoy your visit of which he is appreciative.

Delicious and hearty french cooking. We had the Dec Christmas menu which was reasonable value for the food on offer, and offered good variety. The confit duck was the pick of my dishes.

Impeccable food and great service. I enjoyed a Christmas set meal with my French student group today at Le Bouchon. Greg and the team were welcoming and friendly, efficient service and of course the food was delicious! See you same time next year. MERCI ET JOYEUX NOËL !

Lovely food and quick friendly service.

Had the festive meal of turkey with roast vegetables. No mash or yorkshire puddings and all the veg was diced. Not a good presentation. If you want a traditional Christmas turkey dinner go to a pub. French restaurants can't do Christmas dinner well. On to the pudding. I had the Coupe Bouchon with prune ice cream. The waitress told me it was like an ice cream sundae so I was looking forward to it. I was expecting the prune ice cream to look smooth and taste like prunes. What was served was a very small bowl of whole prunes, about 5, topped with cream and very little vanilla ice cream. Very disappointing. Will not be dining here again.

A beautiful little restaurant, from the second you walk in you can tell what a high standard they have! The food was amazing and I highly recommend a visit! The bramble cocktail is lovely too!

Mrs H and I had scallops and French onion soup to start, both of which were spot on and came with a little warm home-baked petit pain. Moules frites twice for mains, well presented in a dish that contains a mesh partition that allows for chip dipping in the moules liqueur. Everything was presented beautifully, seasoned well, arrived promptly and piping hot. Service was snappy yet not overly formal, drinks were marvellous too (very good Old Fashioned). A delightful little slice of France transplanted to the North East. 10/10.

We had an excellent meal at this restaurant, the good wine,good and service were excellent with a lovely ambience, everything was reasonably priced and superbly presented, the staff are attentive without being overbearing. I just wish we could pack this restaurant up and transport it to our home city of Bristol. Thank you for a lovely evening.

A lovely French Bistro with good menu both a la carte and fixed. Fixed exceptionally reasonable. Evening meal for two w drinks came in at £77. For the quality well worth it. Will be back, again!

Wonderful restaurant and great food and service

Another lovely dinner here with the usual great service from Greg and the team. We usually opt for the Early Bird menu which is such good value but as it was a special birthday celebration, we chose from the A La Carte. My daughter’s scallops and rib eye were really good and my soufflé was light and super cheesy!! For main I chose the duck confit which was rich and delicious and a generous size. Pudding was crème brûlée to share. The atmosphere at Bouchon is always welcoming and relaxed and the food reliably good. There’s a reason it’s one of our favourite restaurants 😊

Food very good, but the manager was clearly in a bad mood and cared little for hospitality. Waited an age for a menu, to be told they had to photocopy some. When then arrived, he gave us about a minute to decide. When we asked for more time, he went away and took an age to return. When asked if he could do a non-alcoholic sauce, he gave a brusque 'no' and walked away. The pudding tasted burnt and bitter. When I told him this, he looked at me in disbelief, like I was dirt on his shoe. My dining partner agreed that it tasted burnt. I have had enough tarte tatin in my time to know if it is burnt on the base. In any event, the attitude he took made the evening an unpleasant experience and we won't be returning. He was the manager and should have been setting the tone.

Nice lunch but disappointed by a very chewy rib-eye steak. At over £25 for the steak we expected something better. The explanation that they had received other similar complaints did not assuage our disappointment. The lamb dish was very nice and the vegetables, sauces and desserts were also good. But at £50 a head we felt the rubbery steak spoilt the whole meal. Ribeye steaks should be dry-aged for at least 35 days to allow the connective tissues to reduce and achieve full flavour. This steak was not hung for long and consequently it was chewy and lacked flavour - this is a basic error by the chef. The waiters excuse that they had supply problems is not acceptable when we paid £50 a head for this substandard meal.

All round great experience. The restaurant was very busy but the staff where on it. It runs like a well oiled machine. My scallops where good well cooked but a bit over salty, I dont eat much salt so its personal taste. I asked on my main course for no added salt which was perfect.

First visit to this restaurant, really glad we booked as every table was taken. The food and service was excellent, the charcuterie board to start was large enough to share between two. The ribeye steak and the duck were both excellent. A definite recommend if you are visiting the area.

Food was up there, steak over done but still excellent, really well priced I thought. Service was friendly but pretty laborious. Laminate peeling off the table wasn't fitting and just a bit annoying.

Bouchon is quietly excellent. The menu provides a good selection of French dishes to choose from. The cooking really is in character - no pretense here. The prix fixe is good value as are the carafes of wine. I recommend booking. Bouchon was full on a Tuesday evening with several tables doing two parties. A lovely atmosphere and good service.

Fabulous evening out to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We sat upstairs and the staff perfectly hit the balance between attentiveness and allowing us space to enjoy our meal. Recommended by John and Lorraine at St.Oswald's Farm, we went twice during a week's stay. We found the menu interesting and the food delicious and unpretentious, with excellent service. Wines were very good standard and reasonably priced.Highly recommended.
