Recently enjoyed another 2 night stay at the Cnapan . As welcoming and comfortable as always but with newly furnished and stylish bedrooms/bathrooms. We had dinner on the first night - truly delicious and top restaurant quality. Sadly (for us) Judith will be retiring at the end of the year so dinner will no longer be offered at the Cnapan - only b&b. We must visit again before this happens!

Having dined here before decided to stay for 1 night and we were not disappointed. Lovely room albeit on the small side over looking the garden at rear of property. What we came for was the food and the evening meal was excellent. Both had soup to start, fish for mains and pan a cotta for desert. Lovely presentation, well cooked and the mains came with a good choice of vegetables. As we were staying the evening meal was decent value at £30 per head with a cup of tea thrown in.Would certainly stay again in this lovely part of Wales

Superb meal. The chowder was simply delicious, my daughter and hubby rated their goat's cheese. Three of us then had the fish pancakes which were superb, as was my daughter's duck. Plenty of veg dishes to go with all these dishes. The staff checked on us just the right amount. Didn't have to ask for water, an ice cold bottle was already on the table. Brownie points for that. Desserts also lovely. The portions are perfect: not huge but just right, so you leave feeling satisfied but not bloated. Would definitely go back. Yes, it is pricey (£180 for 4, including wine, teas etc) but not as pricey as what you would pay in London region! Perfect. (And being French, I LOVE food!) (Put appropriate for kids, but probably not little ones)

Some of our party had two courses and some had the three, all of which were very good. Cnapan Restaurant is distinguished by its unerring delivery of great food served in interesting ways that eschew the pretention of modern fads – and is further distinguished by the astonishing reliability with which this little miracle has been performed over several decades! Three generations of the Lloyds and Coopers have run Cnapan since 1984. Indeed, Cnapan has been featured in both the Good Hotel Guide and the Good Food Guide for over 25 years: I have simply never has a disappointing meal there, the only restaurant in the world I can say that of. Their special trick is that from the moment you arrive you are made to feel that the evening is revolving around your needs. You are greeted with genuine unforced warmth in the bar area, where over a lovely range of drinks you can place your order at leisure, then be led through into the dining rooms for perfectly timed service that is always attentive without pressure. The decor and ambiance throughout is very pretty, quiet and relaxed. Our most recent visit, despite being a mad Bank Holiday weekend, still felt relaxed and welcoming throughout. Starters included sweet local lobster, pan fried scallops, a wonderful seafood chowder and lovely terrine; mains included wholly successful versions of duck, beef and lamb dishes, always with creative and very tasty vegetarian options also available. Another long-term strength has always been Cnapan's creative (and generous) approach to the supporting cast of delicious vegetables. A delightful meal for 6 (some having 2, some 3 courses) complete with drinks before, a great St Emilion, and coffees afterwards came to around £40 a head – no complaints in the slightest.

As soon as we are settled its downstairs for tea and welsh cakes in the lovely lounge. Already we are under the spell of this delightful place. Oliver , Mike and Judith's son, orchestrates the evening - drinks in the bar with delicious Parmesan biscuits, olives and nuts to wet you're appetite whilst perusing the mouth-watering menu. We were not disappointed in any way, and loved the welcoming staff and the ambience- very classic, yet very homely, and when my son heard the selection of gins on offer there was no looking back !The food was excellent, plenty of very tasty choices for fish lovers and meat eaters alike! Attention to detail and superbly cooked local foods. Compliments to the chef- we wanted a fantastic meal but with normal size portions (not Michelin star tiny tastes. ), and with a huge selection of vegetables.Thank you so much, it was a memorable night indeed. I've been wanting to eat here for some years, having listened to many friends and acquaintances sing its praises. Cnapan did not disappoint on any level, from the warm and friendly greeting on arrival and the laid back chat with the bar man whilst we perused the menu. I chose the pan fried scallops to start, which were huge and perfectly cooked with the corals still intact. Hubby had the spicy chicken skewers which he really enjoyed too. He then chose the venison steak for his main, whilst I had the monkfish and prawn kebab. We shared some delicious and unusual vegetables - potatoes dauphinoise, beetroot and horseradish, creamed parsnip, carrots, cabbage and courgettes. Waiting staff were unobtrusive yet attentive and even offered us more veg if we needed them, but the portions were generous to begin with and cooked extremely well. We decided to share a cappuccino creme brûlée which was heaven in a teacup. A glass of red wine and cider were our drinks of choice. The bill was £72 and we savoured every minute of this delightful experience. I would visit again in a heartbeat and hope to do so on our return to Newport.

My girlfriend is a veggie and in this part of Wales, vegetarian options can be very limited, so we chose Cnapan on the basis of its unusual veggie menu. We had a lovely warm welcome when we arrived and we loved the idea of ordering drinks in the lounge whilst mulling over the menu. Mike and Judi who run the place are lovely people and welcome you with open arms. The wine list is short but well chosen, and we had a lovely chilled bottle of crisp Chenin Blanc. I chose chicken liver parfait to start, which was silky smooth and deep in flavour. Served with toasted brioche, chutney and cornichons, it was a perfect start. My other half went for the mushroom pot with egg and cheese, which I knew must've been tasty as she wouldn't stop smiling.Main for me was Guinea fowl and chorizo and bean mash - the bean mash was a lovely accompaniment but lacking on the plate. My partner went with a savoury vegetarian cheesecake - she claimed this was the best thing she'd ever eaten. Coupled with shared ramekins of potato dauphinoise, roasted beets with horseradish, parsnip puree and crisp steamed veg, this meal was an absolute delight.Dessert was equally enjoyable with my partner opting for toffee apple brioche & butter pudding, and I went for the cheese board.Overall, excellent value for money considering the other restaurants in the area.

Can't really complain too much about the food. It was nice but nothing to get too excited about. The accompanying vegetables were an interesting mix. Staff were friendly and attentive. We have been in the area for a week and this was the least impressive and probably the least value for money of our evening meals. The old world atmosphere wasn't what we were expecting. It's obviously right for some people but not for us.

We were lucky enough to chose Cnapan to meet friends half way between where we were staying. We have spent a lot of time over the years in West Pembrokeshire and have never been before. We were delighted that we did. The welcome and service were delightful and extremely efficient. The setting was charming and they happily waited an hour after everyone else had finished while we chatted. As starters, the Scallops were excellent, the pate much appreciated and the fish chowder described as excellent. Mains were three sea bass and the beef all of which were perfectly cooked. We particularly enjoyed the wide selection of vegetables especially the purée parsnips. The special meringue dessert was shared and with coffee and some nice wines all came to £180 for four which I thought was very good value. We look forward to returning soon

Over 15 years ago we had visited Cnapan and were knocked out by the quality of service and the fact they catered for vegetarians and vegans with creative and delicious foods. We enquired by email a week ago if they still catered for vegans and by reply Oliver sent some lovely options and so we booked a table. It is the same family business and they really do care. The bar rooms and the restaurant are beautiful and yet again the food was imaginative and delicious. It was our 40th anniversary and the Joseph Perrier champagne is vegan (no animal finings are used in the filter process to clear the wine). They also had vegan cider. The service was attentive but not intrusve. It made for a perfect evening. Well done Cnapan.

We were welcomed immediately on arrival at Cnapan. We were shown into a small waiting lounge where we were offered our welcome aperitifs. We sampled the local Welsh gin which though not Gordons or Hendriks was most enjoyable. We were shown to our table after a short acceptable waiting time. This was a special meal for us and each course lived up to it's desciption on the menu. All of us had three courses and enjoyed them all. Clearly a lot of time and thought is spent on presentation not to mention the cooking. The service is incredibly efficient and unobtrusive. We were there on a Saturday evening and it was completely full. A good sign in these financially challenging times.Don't be put off by the exterior image as it does look slightly quaint and villagy.

This really is my favorite restaurant!! I love the feeling of friendliness and being part of "the family". The whole place is charming and the food is freshly prepared and excellent. Because Judy cooks everything herself, she knows all the ingredients, which is a boon when customers have food allergies, and she will discuss the needs of customers and adjust food accordingly. The food is beautifully cooked and presented with lots of interesting flavors imaginatively put together, and with a huge selection of beautifully prepared vegetables! Service is just right - not too fast so there was time to savor the food, but not slow either - perfect., and everyone is so friendly. I'm looking forward to when they open up again for the 2015 season.PS - You can stay at the Cnapan too.........

We stayed in Newport weekend of 11th December to celebrate my husband's birthday. I had pre-booked this restaurant as a special treat and it didn't disappoint. The reasonably priced menu enabled a good choice, we both ate scallops for the starter and steaks for main course. I finished with a delightful lemon sorbet with a raspberry granita.

A walk by the sea, a glass of champagne in the bar, an excellent vegetarian (& vegan if you're specific) menu & just a joy.The dark waitress is now a sultry blonde so nobody can accuse Cnapan of standing still (& she always makes us laugh!)Over many years I've never known Cnapan to fail to deight; just hate it when they close for a break . . . selfish!A real pleasure.

The coast of Pembroke and town of Newport (not the Newport next to Cardiff !) is remarkable ... The Cnapan is family run in a large town house that is well decorated and appointed with some really good art work on show... the food is all fresh and well cooked with some really good starters and deserts, the wine list is also good and well selected.. The owners and staff are top notch and very attentive...This is not a cheap option but well worth the money and visit... Only point for the management to consider is the thickness of the steaks, they would be better to be the same weight but thicker cut so the chef can bring out the best...

Seafood pancake was so savoury and all the vegetables are treated as if they are the stars of the show. My husband had a spicy seafood soup and then the steak two nights running. Wines are very reasonably priced

We frequently attend the Cnapan for special occasions (anniversaries, birthdays etc) as it provides a welcome and hospitality that is second to none. You are greeted and made to feel at home immediately and then presented with a menu that is just too good. it is difficult to choose as there are so many mouth watering options. The meals are prepared in the kitchen that is in full view of the clientele which immediately sets them apart from many other restaurants which may not be so clean and organised. When the meal arrives, you are bombarded with a multitude of various vegetables that have have been ingeniously prepared and combined to give your taste buds a treat. This time we counted 8 various vegetable options on our plates!!! The staff are always attentive and are continually checking if we require any more vegetables or water, drinks etc. The downside of having a meal at the Cnapan is that your waist line will increase! The Cnapan provides you with a feast, with extremely polite and attentive staff - in short a super experience.

What a lovely restaurant. The reception rooms are extremely cosy and welcoming. The menu gives a very good choice of dishes which are a delight. I started with scallops, that were cooked to perfection. For my main, I opted for the Fillet of Local beef. I asked for it to be rare, and it was perfect. The vegetable side dishes were amazing and plentiful. Unfortunately, I had no room for dessert, but managed a nice malt whiskey! I will definitely return, as soon as possible!

We ate at Cnapan a few years ago & tried all summer to book a table. We eventually managed to book for August 30th.Lovely welcome upon arrival, then things took a turn for the worse.I ordered the soup to start. During my 3rd spoonful, I noticed something hanging from the spoon. It turned out to be a large blue elastic band. I immediately showed the waitress who apologised & took the band away. The explanation I received was it had come from a bunch of coriander. Even though the waitress apologised, it seemed in a very apathetic manner. At no time was I offered a fresh bowl of soup, even though I had only taken two mouthfuls. The fillet of beef was next. I had specifically stated that I would like it cooked medium well with no pink showing. When I cut into the meat it looked rare. Again I called the waitress who took it away. I was then offered the choice of either having the same piece recooked or a brand new piece.By this time I just wanted to leave, so refused either. My wife insisted I eat something as I had not eaten all day, so I ordered a new piece. This arrived, which looked & tasted like rubber. We refused deserts & asked for the bill. This arrived, with us being charged full price for both meals. When I took the payment to the bar, the gentleman apologised & said I have taken all of your drinks off the bill. When I stated that the only drinks we had consumed were one glass of wine & a glass of tap water he said that's right.I stated that the events had totally ruined my night & you are only taking off £5. Again he apologised, but there was no further reduction.I did not have the right amount of cash to pay the bill, so gave him notes of the value of £3 over the total.I had to ask for my change, as he seemed in no hurry to give it back to me.I felt really let down about the whole experience & feel customer service was sadly lacking during our visit. We will not be returning

Heard great things about Cnapan and we were not disappointed. Tried to stay here but was fully booked but managed to reserve a table at 6.30We were welcomed by the owner and taken to the lounge/bar where we ordered drinks and browsed the menu. Atmosphere is certainly homely as described on TA and tastefully decorated.Good choice of food on offer and we both had pea soup for starters and sea bass for mains. Tasty and well seasoned with an abundance of vegetables. Unlike most place they do not sting you for extra veg and we took up their kind offer of extras!Deserts were to die for with us having a lime tart and a strawberry meringue. Service was excellent with all staff very friendly. Meal was £32 for the 3 courses which given quality excellent value. Can honestly say this is one of the best meals I have ever had and cannot recommend strongly enough.

We've been to this restaurant several times. It's small and its reputation for consistently good food means you really do need to book ahead. Food is excellent with a wide variety of tastes catered for. Fish dishes are particularly good, although this week the pork was a real hit with our teenage children. A highlight is the selection of exquisitely cooked vegetables served with the main meal; lots of choice and plenty of it. We also decided on desserts ranging from an Ameretti trifle to decedent chocolate. All in all an amazing meal in comfy, friendly surroundings. Note to parents; the restaurant doesn't offer a children's menu. We've taken our children from early teens and they have always found menu items they have enjoyed. I hope you enjoy your meal as much as we did.

"Homely" is the word most often used to describe Cnapan. The B&B experience makes it feel like eating in someone's front room and this is its strength and, dare one say, its weakness. When we visited in mid-August we started with lamb koftas with a selection of accompaniments. This was followed by sea bass with baby plum tomatoes and samphire. The fish and samphire would have made a sufficient plate accompanied by Pembroke new potatoes but it came with a further three random veg dishes: Pembs potatoes and gratin dauphinois; beetroot and runner beans; carrots, spring greens and boiled courgettes. Too much. Compare this at £25 for two courses with the sea bass available up the road at The Castle Hotel, served with new potatoes and broccoli in anchovies/capers for £13.95. Less really would be more.

Several people have told me about how good the food is at Cnapan. When I finally got round to going I was not disappointed. Went as part of a group of seven and everyone said the food was wonderful.Firstly had drinks in the relaxed atmosphere of the lovely lounge. The price for 3 courses seems very reasonable at £32 pounds. Each of the main courses comes with plenty of local vegetables as side dishes and were replenished when finished. The standard of the cooking was very high and the service excellent. I had the tenderloin of pork which was melt in the mouth stuff. They served a decent sized cheeseboard of four Welsh cheeses. All excellent. This is definitely one of the best restaurants in Pembrokeshire. Even if you are travelling from south or middle of the county it is well worth the trip.I am told it is very busy establishment even out of the main season so make sure you book ahead.

Wow, I love this fishmongers, firstly the fish is first class fresh for which I can give no bigger acknowledgement. The lovely lady serving was part owner with her husband who does the fixing and she was brilliant (apologies, didn’t get her name), as a fishmonger by trade it was so lovely to see this place open in February when most of Tenby was unfortunately closed. We bought a lobster for £18, massive and the best I’ve ever had and there have been many, a large flatfish, Brill for £20, which fed the family, stupidly fresh and gorgeous, a large tub of cockles, small but beautiful and a pint of cooked prawns, which all were fab, we would have bought more but only had three days left of holidays. The lady was brilliantly knowledgeable and passionate and as an island nation we need to look after these people / businesses as they are few and far between. I spent over £50 and would've spent double to keep this business going. Rick Stein once did a series called ‘Food Heroes’ and he would be well versed visiting Tenby finest, rather than his current series focusing on anything but around the nation. Thank you very much for your conversation and fresh fish, we will be back very soon to buy it all, Darren, Sam, Robyn and Elwood xxx

I recently stayed at Ash Farm for 5 nights. The accommodation was cosy and clean. Sian and Mike were very welcoming. The food was amazing. As a vegetarian I often find food choices are limited. The food here is vegan, incredibly tasty with so much choice. Sian is a very talented cook with great attention to detail. I was attending a sewing retreat in their beautifully acquitted barn with the lovely Helen Rhiannon. To wake up to Alpacas roaming in the field outside your room, a tasty breakfast and lovely views was the most ideal break. I will definitely be visiting Ash Farm again.
