Doc's Fish and Chips in Down

Can't comment on the food as we weren't allowed to order. One of our party has a nut allergy and on mentioning this to the server we were advised that there would be cross contamination due to how food was prepared, and nothing could be done about it so we weren't allowed to order. First time this has ever happened to us anywhere in the UK. Can't understand why this isn't explicitly noted on the menu as we had checked menus beforehand. Enjoyed a really great meal elsewhere in Newcastle where staff could not have been more helpful.

We stayed in Newcastle for 3 nights and had dinner in Docs twice as it was that good. The menu is really extensive and Pat and his team cannot do enough for you. Although it’s a very busy spot, the atmosphere is relaxed and professional. The food is so fresh and tasty and really reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend it and will be back. Try to get a seat at the window and watch the world go by.

Just managed to get in here before they closed. So glad we did, I had scampi and chips and the scampi was the best I’ve had (and it’s my go to so I’ve had a lot!) My partner had the cod and chips which he also enjoyed

Not impressed today .I go here quiet alot sit in mostly.. but today was no⁹t impressed with my fish it was awful hard thick batter hardly any cod in the fish

Visited with my daughter for a light bite. I had the hangover burger surprisingly finished it all... so much going on but it all worked. Food was served promptly and fresh, staff were very very good and generous with their time. Well run and nice family environment. Highly recommended 👌

So pleased to have been able to have battered fish and chips that were gluten free. What a treat and delicious. Was even brought gluten free vinegar specially. The rest of our meals were excellent as well. Highly recommend.

The best fish an chips in Co.Down...we where recommend this spot by our Guest House Host an boy was he right. The atmosphere I'd friendly if a little mad cause it's so busy the staff where lovely and very efficient. The menu is great doing a wide selection of food. The sit in restaurant menu is different from the take away chippy menu but both where really busy we took that as a good sign. The portions are a good size the food was lovely and warm an it tasted amazing. We will definitely be back the nxt time we are down this way and I will be advising all our friends an family to do the same. We ordered 2 fish an chips a coke and a glass of wine (which was lovely) and it was £36 we were going to stay for dessert but where stuffed after dinner. Honestly can't fault it best spot in Newcastle to eat

Took a group of ladies from Belfast to this restaurant, excellent attention from manager and staff from booking through the whole experience. Food excellent, service prompt and friendly staff. Will be back.

We have been to Newcastle many times but never tried this great restaurant. So impressed with the friendly service & delicious food. Whenever you're in Newcastle, you just HAVE to get fish and chips, so definitely go to Doc's. They have the option to dine in or take away. Their covid safety measures are very good. All staff wearing masks, screens up, one way system, different areas for ordering and collection (takeway area). I love their mushy peas and tartar sauce with the huge piece of fish and chips so much. My boyfriend got the chicken kebab with chips and curry sauce which had a load of chicken in the pitta. Good quality food for a reasonable price.

We visited Docs on Wednesday Lunchtime while the Eat out to Help out scheme was on. Before you enter you have to be wearing a facemask and before you are shown to a table the waiter pumped hand sanitizer into our hands. This is especially reassuring during the times. Our order was taken quickly and the food soon followed. My partner had the Fish and Chips and I had the chicken kebab with a side of chips. All food was delicious and well worth the money, especially since it was 50% off even though I'd of happily paid full price. My only criticism would be that no contact information was taken from us for a contact tracing.

Had a meal here last week and twice takaways, always good food, great service too. They are now licenced which is great for a wee glass os something.

Used to rate Docs very highly, however, recently the standard of fish has declined.Also, the staff can be quite rude as others have pointed out, they almost react like THEY are doing YOU a favour. Not acceptable when there are other good chippies in town with good customer service!

We come to Newcastle several times each year, and always enjoy our take away from docs. I have say, on today's trip I have never been so disappointed. I ordered a beef burger, which came as a dry bap with a plain burger - no mayo, no ketchup, no salad. made it tasteless.We were also missing a bottle fanta, a bottle water and a small chip. never had service like this in Docs before. will gave to rethink our eating out next time.

Doc's was really busy today, but that was no excuse for the bald man at the front of the chip shop taking orders to be rude and impatient with an elderly couple just because they couldn't remember their order number.We all observed this happening as we waited for our food, not really good enough, some people said he's always like that...? The food was satisfactory.

I have mixed emotions about my visit today. I was seated quickly and handed menus. In fact four different waiters asked me if I was ready to order,more or less as soon as I had just looked at menu.A good problem,if a little irritating.I ordered prawn cocktail starter. It came reasonably quickly but was nothing special. A handful of shrimps on top of a mound of iceberg lettuce on top of malty unbuttered wheaten bread,with marie rose sauce.It lacked colour and cucumber,tomato and a cherry would have lifted it presentation wise. Taste wise the wheaten was the best part.For main I had a glazed beef kebab with a salad side.A rather small pitta bread filled with lettuce and coarse cut large tomato and cold mini pieces of steak. The side salad was again a handful of iceberg and coarse cut tomato with a wee wee bit of peppers.Poor presentation and lack of colour or taste.A family with a spoiled young girl screeching and running up and down the bench seats in her shoes was disgusting and unhygienic. She pawed all over the tables whilst an unconcerned mother sat on. and showed no concern especially in the middle of coronavirus.The manager wiped the seats before new customers say beside. But never touched the tables and I am sure would not have done seat only I had complained.I finished with a rather weak and luke warm latte coffee.At 19 stg it is decidedly average fare for what is basically a fish and chippy trying to be more up market.A few tweaks of colour or worcester sauce would have made such a difference plus warm meat.I will go back for fish as I did previously.The staff were good and friendly.Pity about the food.

Excellent freshly cooked fish and chips, what’s more to love. Have been here before and couldn’t wait to return, it didn’t let me down as it was once again delicious. Can’t wait to get back. Definitely recommended so enjoy!

From the outside you would mistakenly think it’s just a sit-in chippy but Docs is much more than that. Their steak sandwich, chicken curry and fish is lovely. I have a vegetarian friend who was very impressed with her chickpea burger. Great value for money and big portion sizes.

I have went to this place for years. It was excellent, I had a club sandwich the last time and they sent the bread out burnt, but they did not charge me for the meal. I did not dine there for quite a bit of time. I was disgusted that we were not allowed to dine on the left hand side of building, my mum has many alements at 76 and she needs a bit of space to enjoy her food. The food was disgusting very very greasy, there was absolutely no customer service and I am very sorry to say I will never set foot in that place Again x

We had lunch here today and it wasn’t a very good experience. Firstly the restaurant wasn’t busy and we had to wait 45 minutes for our food.. 2 meals wasn’t much to ask and shouldn’t take that long when the place is empty!! When we arrived we didn’t get a very nice welcome, you can see into the kitchen when you walk in and the chefs were literally just standing around talking, joking and laughing when they should have been busy getting the food out!! We had to collect our own menus because the waiter didn’t come over to us and we had to wait a good while just for our drink order. When we eventually got our food after waiting 45 minutes it was terrible very small portions and the chips over cooked, we paid 30 pounds which was a total rip off for what we got I am not one to complain ever about paying for food if it’s worth it Docks however is a total disgrace!! There are better places to eat in Newcastle like the Italian restaurant two doors down from docks at the top of the street, at least in there the staff are friendly and the food worth paying for!! Not a good experience and we will never step foot over Docks door ever again.

Heard so many good thibgs about docs so decided to try their take away. My husband got fish and chips which were just ok. Fish was fresh but batter was very greasy. Chips were great! I opted for a pastie...i got home to find that their meat pastie was a beef burger in batter. It was very greasy. I was really disappointed that their pastie wasnt similar to a normal chippy pastie. I will try Docs again but will go for something different.

I am not a big fish eater but since I was I Ireland I thought I would give it a try. It was excellent!!! Highly recommend!!

A busy Saturday afternoon and me, my wife and son went fancied a bit.of lunch. As we were looking something light as we're cutting down, we decided on baked potatos but Docs didn't sell them. We opted for chicken sandwich one with salad. The sandwich was fine taste ways but the it was threw together and cut was brutal to say the least. The chef / cook needs to learn how to make a sandwich or else take the option off the menu. My son had sausage and chips which he ate and looked fine but in fairness Docs was not our first choice due to other eateries being packed. I suppose if you want to eat deep fried stuff and sit in, then Docs is ok but not for a decent lunch alternative not even a sandwich.

My Partner and I went hear on a Saturday evening. we just happened to be walking up the street and had a look at the menu. He had the chicken supreme which he wasnt expecting when the plate came out he thought it was going to be something completely different. He was well pleased with the meal. I had the falafel burger which was absolutely delicious as well. We both had the brownie to finish recommend this too. So happy we found this place as if we had of drove through the town we may have missed this. Hope to back again soon.

Good range of choices for kids and adults. The desserts are huge! Great service and happy staff. No rush to finish even though they had people waiting for seats.

Wow, went on Monday for lunch, with my Wife Eleanor and daughter Sarah. I got the best Fish,Chips and Peas, with Tarter Sauce. Great,fast and friendly service from the Manager and Camilla. Lovely portion. Fish tasted the best I ever had got. Eleanor got Chicken Rap with Sweet Fries while Sarah got Roast Potatoes and Mash with Gravy. You must go to Docs...Class.."I'll be back".

I came to docs because it was my dads birthday and its his favourite place in town for fish and chips! ( he loved his dinner so thank you!) I asked what the vegan options were and I was told there was a falafel burger (which then turned out to have egg in it)...which left the chickpea curry, it was fine, but seemed like a throw something together kind of job. I'm aware this is not a vegan restaurant...but in this day and age you must consider all of your clientele...I'm disappointed and I hope you invest more time into making sure everybody can eat here in the future.

Called in for lunch with friends from Scotland. All four of us ate of the lunch menu. Two portions of fish gougons, one chicken gougons and a huge fry. Excellent food. Lovely dry crispy chips and batter. Jim never finishes his food but on this occasion, with the help of a ladder to climb the plate he cleared his plate. Spotlessly clean and helpful staff. I would definitely recommend Doc's.

The inside is absolutely immaculate, as are all of the staff. The service is prompt, efficient and always very pleasant. The prices are fantastic and the variety of the menu is vast - there's seriously something for everyone here from the most delicious plump and juicy burgers, over-stuffed baguettes, chicken curry, filled sodas, and hot dogs, to the icing on the cake, the main event, the big deal for anyone who loves fish: the cod. It is a thing of breathtaking beauty. The haddock is similarly gorgeous, too, I must add, and the scampi is battered and also divine, served with salad, a few chips and tartare sauc

Needed a quick meal after climbing Slieve Donard. We had cod and chips to takeaway. The fish was fresh and crisply battered, the chips were also nice and crisp. No complaints, we all enjoyed our food.

It looks like a local restaurant. The staff are very friendly. We had a short wait for a table. There were many people getting “take away food. The fish was hot and Flaky. The chips were served on the plate in a small wire basket. The smashed peas were very nice too.

We dined here last Sunday, it was starting to get busy but we got a nice table by the window. I ordered the chicken goujons and they were amazing! My daughter had scampi and I tasted one, so fresh and tasty. The burger was fab as was the fish and chips. Service was quick and the food was piping hot which I like. Our young waitress was lovely and friendly and came back to check on us. We always enjoy a meal at Docs and will definitely be back soon. As we were leaving we notice a queue forming at the door, always a sign of a good restaurant!

1st time back after the fire..... menu has changed portions arnt what they used to be.... sirloin steak had a burnt mushroom sitting on top of it and I mean the tiniest portion of mash steak sandwich isnt a steak sandwich half the sandwich is missing were did the other half go.. bit over priced for all you get...... old favourites seem to have been taking off the menu ie.. chicken Maryland is gone and the meat salads have gone..... staff were friendly and helpful but the food was a let down this time

I was excited to see Docs in Newcastle had reopened so I decided to order a takeaway. Got my usual, steak kebab on chips however was very disappointed when I got home and found the cheapest, fatty slabs of beef on top of undercooked chips tasted like Chinese beef. Won’t be back anytime soon!
