Himalayan Gurkha in Derby

My favorite place to go for Indian cuisine . They also have Nepalese cuisine so even better as there are not many Nepalese restaurants in Derby. I love their momo ( Nepali dumpling) . Excellent service and very welcoming staff.

so the papadoms were not fresh and soggy .and I also ordered a bottle of diet coke which tasted wrong I have since checked the date and its 31-8-23 .the food was OK but but hot enough .when I rang to complain he just said he could not do anything about the coke or papadoms but would offer me 20% if I order another meal from them !!!! if the drinks can be that out of date who knows about the food ........not happy

Although food arrived hot, it lacked any flavour. The naan breads were like cardboard. Sadly won't be ordering again.

Thoroughly recommend this restaurant, have to go to Derby once a year, found this place a few years ago and now visit every time. Here again and what can I say after a very disappointing meal in a highly recommended restaurant in Edinburgh I'm back here for what I think n real Nepalis food.

Small group of 7 plus toddler went for a Birthday meal. Booked online. All manner of delicious food choices on the menu. Superb . Didn’t wait long for our meal. It is the best curry I’ve had in Derby. Serving staff very attentive but not bothersome. Orange juice on the house for toddler & free poppadoms all round. Competitive prices for amazing food. Doggy bags to take home as large portions. Will definitely eat here again, looking forward for next family members birthday! Would’ve given 5 stars but restaurant a little bit chilly. Be aware of parking restrictions opposite the restaurant but plenty of pay as you park spaces top of street.

Food's gone a bit downhill compared to before. Everything was a bit bland and samey.

I ordered from here after a poor experience with an apparently "top rated " curry house the day before. And I could not have had a better experience. The food was fantastic. I had a king prawn Puri which was 9/10 and a Pathia which tasted 10/10. The garlic naan was on the small side but was great. I have ordered again tonight.

Really awful food. We have eaten at Himalayan Gurka pre-pandemic and always really enjoyed ourselves. Tonight we got a takeaway - paneer masala, chicken korma and a mixed grill and everything tasted the same, bland sweet and with zero seasoning. I called the venue and got told that a masala and a korma are virtually the same, sweet and creamy, by the man that answered the phone, which was unbelievable. Apparently a tandori grill also has no spice in it because it is dry. If you want to pay a lot of money for school dinner curry go ahead - but we won't be going back. The restaurant seem to be trading off an old reputation. They have only had 10 review since the start of 2023.

The blandest food ever, really do not waste your time and money. Rang to discuss the takeaway and ignored. The mixed grill starter meats tasted so plain we gave up.

Amazing food and amazing staff.

Just visited this restaurant for a meal, it's been our first time in the area. It did not let up. We each had Chicken Tikka Masala, which was the most flavorful I've experienced. The naans were also pleasant, not dense or flaky like other restaurants had. The staff was extremely accommodating and pleasant, and our order was purchased in a matter of minutes. I plan to return and also order takeaway on the future.

The wife and I ate here 16 September 2023. We went early doors at 7pm and the place was busy even then. Attentive service. The pints of Cobra were ice cold. Poppadoms and pickle tray excellent. Mains, rice and naans all so tasty. Our first visit here and definitely not our last. If you want a decent sit down ruby I would recommend this restaurant.

First time at this resaurant but will definitely be back! Delicious food and friendly, helpful service. Great vegan/vegetarian options too, so something for everyone.

Takeaway. Delivered in good time, without fuss. Fantastic food, possibly the best 'curry' I've had. I was really impressed and will be back for more. Will definitely recommend.

Had a delivery and the quality has dropped considerably. We've had many deliveies in the past, and the quality was so much better. Chicken buna, not spicy, Popadoms not crispy. Portion sizes down by half. Chips were cold, Definitely won't be ordering from here any more!!!

Ordered a takeaway for delivery from this restaurant. Really great food. Couldn't fault it. The only fly in the ointment was the delivery. The guy went to the right house number but the wrong street. My neighbour directed him to my street and I saw him on my cctv wandering about like a little lost lamb carrying the takeaway. I went out and spoke to him to confirm it was my order and realised he didn't speak much English. He was unable to read the street name signs. Is there any point having a delivery driver that is unable to read street names? The food was really good so I've given it four stars. It can't be just me that this is happening to if he can't read street names. Disappointing takeaway experience. I will go and have a sit down mean sometime at this restaurant with my wife but won't be ordering any more takeaways for delivery. Sorry for the negative review about the delivery but it needed to be said.

Just been for a meal at this restaurant, it was our first visit here. It did not disappoint. We both had Chicken Tikka Masala - it was the best I have ever had. The naans were lovely too, not thick n doughy like some I have had at other restaurants. The staff were very welcoming and polite and our order was bought out very quickly. Booked this restaurant for myself and 13 friends after a golf break last weekend. We were slightly late but the staff were really understanding. The food was served in a timely manner and was all delicious. Many of the guys said it was one of the best curries they have ever eaten, myself included. Many thanks for looking after us and I will certainly return if I am in the area.

Flawless. The food was very impressive and the service was second to none.

I had forgotten that the owner works in the flower pot kitchen on Tuesday and Wednesday... And it shows, , we were the only people in the restaurant so the atmosphere was very flat. My friends made better choices than me so they had no reason to be unhappy my lamb tandoori dish was over cooked and very tough. I have dined here quite a few times before without any complaints if their is a next time I must remember to avoid any Tuesday or Wednesday slot.

My birthday, evening meal on a Monday night and we wanted to start fairly early. Himalayan Gurkha was up and running at 5:30 and we were dealt with promptly by attentive and courteous staff. The food was outstanding and served promptly. Good value for money and well worth a visit. We will return!

This restaurant isnt for me, One of the tasteless bland food I have ever eaten. They serve tomato sauce in the name of curries.

My experience was very bad..i'm a vegetarian person and i got shoked when i get my food delivered it was having chicken sauages in it.Its a trigger to my releigious sentiments as well.I ordered first time and its horrible .Onion bhaji is tasteless having no salt in it .They said its ready to made we dont know..

Absolutely fantastic. We're not from the area - but where we live there are plenty of options for a curry. It's one of the best currys I've EVER eaten. Can't recommend this highly enough. The waitress recommended my main, and was kind enough to also ask the chef to make a few changes to our meal ahead of being made. Everything was fresh, flavourful, and had perfect textures. I really can't find any criticism. We arrived just after 6pm and were luckily squeezed in without an appointment. We agreed to be finished by 7:30pm for when the table was needed. I thought we'd be in and out in an hour, but we only just managed to finish in 90mins. This is because it was so enjoyable to eat here, rather than slow service. In fact, quite the opposite - we had excellent prompt service and food to our table quickly. Due to having a very young (and picky) child with us, we also ordered a plain portion of chips - however, we were pleased to see he also ate a good amount of the curry! That's quite some praise! Even little things like the rice came out perfectly cooked, perfectly flavoured, and was hot and fluffy as if cooked perfectly. The only downside for us is that it's not an area we're likely to visit much sadly. If you have the opportunity to eat here - do it! And pre-book to avoid dissapointment!

The food was excellent. Service was good, considering the girl was the only one who was handling reception, phones, taking orders, and serving. She did her best with what we asked with her lovely smile. The food was served in special utensils, and portions were generous.

Ordered takeaway (to collect) as a treat for new years eve. Simple order comprising of poppadoms, pickle tray, chicken tikka curry, lamb dupiaza, keema rice, chapatti and cheese naan. The poppadoms were old and tasted of cardboard, both curries had no taste, no rice included and when rang up to ask to be delivered, seemed surprised that we would not just accept refund. Naan was chewy. Incredibly dissatisfied. Won't ever return there

Really good Currys, taste authentic, no food colouring in sight. Good portion size and fair prices. Great veggie options. Very friendly staff who are really helpful over the phone. Wouldn't go anywhere else in Derby.

Paid extra to order from here expecting a great meal. The curries were brilliant but the tandoori chicken was a rip off. I paid for a half chicken tandoori - 4 legs is NOT half a chicken and not worth the money we were charged. Won't use again

My Go to place for a Chicken korma, mushroom rice, garlic naan and the best poppadoms! recently moved with a newborn and had the old address still on! restaurant who i spoke too handled the confusion graciously. the driver drove from our old place to the new to drop off the delivery And was very polite. honestly the best service ive ever received from a restaurant. And the food is always on point and authentic.

Delicious food again. Our go to Restaurant for Take Aways. 😋

We chose this place because it was near our accommodation. The staff there were very welcoming and obviously striving to make as good experience as possible. Our food was very good and we took some away in a doggy bag. The bottle of wine provided based on our selection was quite old 2010 but was fine to drink. It got quite busy later on the Saturday evening. Next time we are the area ( which is unlikely) we are likely to go here again

We visited here based on trippy’s good reviews but was sorely disappointed. The food was below average and we left one dish untouched because of the poor quality,. The restaurant waived the charge which was good, but sadly still we won’t go back.
