John's House Restaurant in Rushcliffe

This was our fourth visit to John’s House. Previously all dining experiences and service had exceeded expectations. On this visit we sampled the five course menu. The food was very good. Unfortunately the service we received was not. We ordered the pre-desert, one portion of which arrived in a dish which had clearly been been broken in several places and repaired. Thinking that this must have been an oversight we brought to the attention of one of the waiting staff, who informed us that the crockery was bespoke and that with a commitment to sustainability or similar that an expensive form of adhesive had been used to repair the bowl. The waitress demonstrated an air of disbelief that, when asked whether we had come across this previously, we stated that we had not. However the completely patronising manner and tone in which we were spoken to was embarrassing to say the least. Within earshot of other diners the response we received was given in a loud and passive aggressive style and we were spoken to as if we were children. I personally was very upset about it. Did she feel that speaking to us as a more elderly couple in this manner was justified? It really did spoil the evening for us. We will not be returning.

Absolutely delicious. Warm, cozy and delicious. We had the five course meal with the carrot sorbet add on (absolutely say yes to the sorbet). Cocktails were yummy, food was well plated and balanced. I am so glad we came.

Fabulous experience from the moment we arrived in the afternoon. We were shown to our room, across the road from the restaurant. Lady who showed us to the room was great, really welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The room was more of a cottage. Kitchen, lounge and upstairs a bedroom and bathroom with shower. Excellent in every way. The fridge was stocked with wine and there was also a cocktail cupboard in the lounge very thoughtfully done. At a cost of course for anything you had. There was also lots of non alcoholic drinks and snacks that were complimentary. We decided to have breakfast brought to us in the cottage and it was lovely. Everything thought of and very high quality. In the evening we had the tasting menu and wine pairing. Everything was exquisite and service was perfect too. Everyone was friendly and efficient. They also went to light the fire in the cottage so that it was lit when we arrived back.

Haven’t been back since before John got his star. Since then you have to be quick to get a booking. It has expanded since last here with more space in the barn. What hasn’t change is the food and the service. Totally exquisite, how the waiting staff remember everything is beyond me. We are so proud the this restaurant is in our village. Well done John, you can certainly cook!

My wife and I went to John's House for lunch. We chose the 3 course option, plus the optional cheese course. I am a pescetarian and my wife a veggie and have to say they catered for us brilliantly. Each course was an adventure to the taste buds and we loved the way the food was introduced to us. It was a fantastic experience and something we hope to repeat soon.

Third visit to Johns House and it was as good as the first. This time went for the Lunchtime Taster Menu, food was fantastic , service great, and atmosphere brilliant. Its not cheap... but you really do get what you pay for, they do not give those Michelin stars for nothing. Already planning the next visit

Fine dining with local ingredients and lots of twists. John's House never lets you down. The tasting menu changes regularly to ensure optimum use of seasonal ingredients and these are used with great imagination to provide a real dining experience, and a very special treat.

This place is unbeatable, it’s incredible! Every aspect of this place is 10/10, even down to the hand towels in the toilets. The service is impeccable and the food is out of this world. I would strongly recommend this restaurant to all. We are now seasonal diners as the menu changes every 3 ish months. Amazing.

We have lived local for years and never been to Johns House. We booked 3 months in advance to get the date we wanted. We booked for the lunch tasting menu. On arrival we were greeted by a friendly young lady, taken into the lounge, drinks menus given and an explanation on how the rest of the meal would go. We ordered drinks for downstairs to so with our snack. Afterwards a young man took our drinks upstairs to our table where the lunch menu was explained. There was an option for a 3 or 5 course lunch with or without wine pairing. My husband and I decided on the 3 course followed by a cheese board. The snack was salmon and cured pork. Starters:me - salmon/husband ham hock Main: cod Deserts: me chocolate and raspberries/husband-strawberry trifle. All the dishes were served with local or Johns family farms vegetables and fruits. Cheeses where mainly local; Red Leicester, Lancaster bomb, stinky bishop served with rhubarb pickle, fig and brandy, walnuts and grapes. It was a treat for my husband birthday, there was a birthday card at the table then at then end of the meal he was presented with a small bottled gift, this was a very nice touch. The food and service was amazing. Definitely visit again sooner rather than later.

Wow wow wow what a special night. Celebrating out first wedding anniversary and first time visit - booked for taster menu and wine pairing. Waiters, waitresses and sommelier so knowledgeable, professional yet made you feel comfortable. Special shout out to Ruby and Peri who were excellent. Now onto food. Little canapé tasters pre meal just yummy! Then comes the seven courses - all of which were beautifully presented, tasted so good, even those I wasn’t expecting to like were fab. Make sure you stay for coffee and petit fours!! Would I come back - hell yeah and would definitely recommend! Thanks John and team - a great Michelin experience at a reasonable cost.

This was our second visit to John's House and we had the 7 course taster menu. Sometimes with a taster menu there can be a course which disappoints, not at all in this case. Every single course was stunning in its quality and presentation, and the value for money compared to other Michelin Star restaurants is quite amazing. If you haven't been yet you should go as we certainly will be again.

Tasting menu on a Friday afternoon. A more relaxed and unusual dining environment, a series of three loft rooms in an old barn style building. Doesn’t lend to a brilliant atmosphere, but pleasant enough. On to the food though, 9 course tasting menu, started very well with homemade bread and butter. Some unusual and pleasing dishes followed, personal highlights were raw mackerel with oyster, the potatoes, truffle, chilli, cheddar course and the salted cod with passion fruit of all things, which worked really well and will be my main memory of the menu. The staff were pleasant enough, attentive and polite, with two of our 4 or 5 servers being much better and personable, didn’t catch their names, two young ladies. Overall, very pleased to visit and will return again!

Fantastic food and Exceptional Service!Only disappointment was the price difference from the website which stated 7 course Taster £79, Taster & wine pairing £124 per person. As this was a special occasion we budgeted & saved based on these prices however the taster with wine pairing was actually £139 each, an extra £30 for the 2 of us which sadly meant we could not leave a decent tip to reflect the exceptional service we had received.

We went there for my birthday meal. We had the tasting menu with selected wines. It was really good. Beforehand we had a drink and we were served 3 different appetizers. Then on the tasting menu there were 7 or 8 other starter sized dishes. Really enjoyable experience. All lasted 3hrs and we couldn't move afterwards. Staff very attentive and polite. Only minus is the bill afterwards, but that's what you pay for a Michelin star experience.

Lovely lovely restaurant with friendly, relaxed service. The food was amazing, we went for the taster menu but before that we tucked into 3 delightful little ‘snacks’ and the most gorgeous rosemary bread with home made butter. I sometimes find taster menus a bit laborious but this was perfectly timed. Favourite dish? The cod was brilliant, the potato course was fantastic and we loved the hogget. As we live 45 minutes away we stayed at Butter Cottage from Airbnb which is a 5 minute walk away and to be recommended however, we were told last night that two cottages across from Johns House have been purchased for bed and breakfast ......we will be back!
