Amazing amazing, amazing! Fantastic team, incredible food about which they are far too modest and understated- every detail has been meticulously made from the home made smoked salmon with its crispy skins to the generous and nostalgic pies. Simple pub, with exciting food and beverage, something to genuinely get excited about in Ayrshire - Good Luck!

Just had a fantastic 3 course meal in the Kirkmichael Arms. Hadn't been I'm since it opened back up so weren't sure what to expect. We weren't disappointed at all. It was delicious. Absolutely top quality food. 10/10! I loved it! Thanks again

We went for dinner as a family, 7 adults and 3 kids. Roy greeted us on arrival, took our coats and seated us before the waitress came and took our drinks order, we were given plenty of time to look through the menu and the specials were pointed out and explained to us. The food was exceptional as were the staff. I can’t choose a favourite dish as my starter (empanadas) main (venison) & Desert were equally brilliant, we will definitely need to return to sample more of the menu.

Just had the most wonderful Sunday Lunch at our local restaurant - Kirkmichael Arms. I had roast beef and my husband had venison.

Someone in the kitchen knows how to cook! Steak, pheasant, vegan, a solid range in the menu. Great value for money, good service, good to see a village pub/restaurant re open.

We had a family celebration Saturday lunch here, for 20 people ( including the youngest member in a high chair). The food was excellent, as was the service. The ambience was relaxed and welcoming. A few members ( used to fine dining) had flown in from New York and London and they were bowled over by the quality and value of the meal. We will definitely be back and would highly recommend as a destination gastropub. The village and surrounding countryside are well worth making the trip to a relatively quiet part of Scotland.

Me and my wife popped in for lunch yesterday in the bar area and we were absolutely bowled over by the quality of the food, we had starters and a main each, 3 pints of lager and a bottle of wine and the bill was under £90 Staff were very friendly and we will be back soon to try more of the menu 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻

Very disappointed ☹️ After having numerous fantastic family meals at the Kirkmichael Arms in recent years with previous owners . We were-delighted to hear that it had reopened recently and decided to visit . Unfortunately it was not the experience we were used to on any level. Food was ok some even good but selection was very limited and in our opinion over priced . Younger members of staff were helpful and polite although I believe may have been new to hospitality or inexperienced. However I’m sure that would change with time. Selection and quality of food and wine did not in my opinion match the description on the menu and the senior member of staff on the day we visited was not very helpful or accommodating. Really disappointed as this would have been a regular go to for family events and catch ups had our experience been at least enjoyable.

Had a lovely meal on Sunday evening for my husband's birthday. Well worth a visit. Excellent waiting staff and service. The beef and custard tart was immense.

Went for dinner after it reopened. Relaxing atmosphere, attentive but not intrusive staff. Great food - only criticism would be that portions were very generous and so only managed to sample two courses. Price - not bargain basement but have paid a lot more for a lot less elsewhere. Will definitely be returning customers.

Just back after having an early dinner after walks with dogs ( golden retrievers Autumn and Meadow) so dog friendly, food was meat plate and veggie plates. Food was so tasty and gorgeous. Service was quick and very friendly in a relaxed atmosphere. Will be back.

We had an absolutely fantastic meal here- a very quiet lunchtime service on a Friday afternoon with only one other table being served. Food was exceptional- delicious and really nicely presented. We were both blown away by the choice on the menu for a lunch service and the quality of the food when it arrived was stunning. We have paid a lot more money in local restaurants e.g. Buzzworks establishments and recieved food and service that were not a patch on this, highly recommended!!

My wife and I dined here on a Sunday afternoon. The specials board has some amazing options and it was hard to choose as every main sounded delicious. We ended up having a 3 course meal each as we just didn't want the food to stop. The pheasant pot roast that I had was outstanding. The presentation of each dish was as good as how the food tasted. Staff are pleasant and very helpful. If you are ever in Ayrshire, give this place a try.

We travelled 30mins so we could use a gift voucher and we were not disappointed. Both the quality, presentation and serving sizes were of such a high standard we even stayed for pudding. We will be back, we will recommend.

What a gem of a place, this is my second visit to this part of Scotland and I specifically book as many meals there as I can fit in. Proper food, fresh, tastefully presented, delicious, super friendly staff and locals, a hard place to beat.. definitely worth a trip out.

Cannot fault this wee gem of a pub/restaurant. Would recommend booking as always so busy. Food is 1st class and ALWAYS piping hot when it reaches your table. Specials board changed daily, all local caught seafood or local produce, and home made desserts! Really worth the drive off the A77. The steak is always cooked to perfection and the service is fast, efficient and friendly. The Haggis Scotch egg is a favourite on the menu, and the lasagne is the BEST!

OK, my friends live locally and we dine here often, but I feel I've got to leave a review because the standard of the food and service consistently meets and exceeds our expectations.This village pub retains it's homely atmosphere and prides itself on its reputation for serving quality meals at reasonable prices. The dining room isn't pretentious, but it doesn't need to be because the welcome one receives from the proprietor and her staff makes it feel like home.There's a standard menu offering a wide selection of bar meals, all of which are of a high quality, but we always opt for the daily specials board which offers a range of locally sourced produce cooked and presented with flair and imagination. We dined there last night to celebrate my friends's partner's birthday and she chose a starter of caesar salad with pan fried scallops, hot smoked salmon and soft boiled egg, which both looked very appetizing and surpassed anything she'd had there before. My friend stuck to his favourite dish of liver and bacon with mashed potato, tomato and mushrooms whilst I opted for the locally caught pan fried cod with mussels on a bed of tender stem broccoli and sauted potato, which was delicious. We had just about enough room for a shared dessert of pavlova with ice cream and summer berry fruits, all of the above washed down with a generous glass or three (?) of white wine.We couldn't fault anything, and the service and presentation makes the Kirkmichael arms stand out from the competition. Quite simply, as my review title implies, this venue punches well above its weight for quality, service and value for money.

Went for dinner last night after reviewing the comments and pictures. Can honestly say the meal was fantastic, presentation well thought out and was a taste sensation. Small details like warm plates and flavour matching all blended to make a great meal. Went for the scotch egg wrapped in haggis as I know if done well and would be a delight and I was not disappointed, nice runny egg centre cooked to perfection. Will be back soon.

We had lasagne and chicken, both meals were very tasty, served on lovely hot plates and lovely presentation with good service. For pudding shared hot chocolate fudge cake and this was also anazing, thank you for a lovely lunch.

Excellent in every way. Warm welcome, superb range of food and service. The food was fantastic. I had prawn Marie rose salad and my husband the steak and sausage pie. All freshly prepared and delicious. This was in a different class to what is thought of as ‘pub food’. We hadn’t planned to go here and just followed the brown tourist signs. As it was lunchtime, I didn’t have dessert. My mistake as I definitely missed out there. Next time, I would go miles out of my way to revisit. Well done.

Staying a few nights locally we booked the Kirkmichael Arms for Dinner. Went into the Bar for a drink before and despite the COVID restriction that were properly in place , received a warm welcome from the host. Good choice of drinks at reasonable prices.The Resturaunt attached was also very COVID compliant, a varied set menu with an extensive ‘special ‘ menu on chalkboards ( which we were told changes daily) . Clearly specialised in local seafood but also had a wide range of other staples. We chose two fish dishes , which were excellent, as was the dessert we shared. Not cheap but good value , book beforehand as this place is popular.

Another fantastic night out at the Kirkmichael Arms. This is, without a doubt, one of the best restaurants in Ayrshire. The menu is varied and full of fresh local produce - leaning towards seafood but plenty of meat options too. The place is kept immaculately clean and all Covid measures are in place. The staff are extremely friendly and eager to please. We are very lucky to have this place on our doorstep.

We found this by chance and we were so impressed we went back 2 more times. There was a good selection of Food and we tried quite a few items on the menu, all were excellent, we may have been lucky as we went at lunch time and so they weren't very busy. Even I would recommend anybody to go there.

Lovely restaurant. Me and my girlfriend tried here last night and weren’t disappointed we arrived early which wasn’t a problem the girl sorted a table out for us and as for the food it was amazing I had the trio of goats cheese for starters which was to die for then we had a couple of burgers the three cheese and the bad boy burger ( for me lol )Awesome !! Ate out for dinner here. Excellent food, good service and warm welcome. Portions are generous and freshly made. Service was attentive without being intrusive. Will return again when in the area but hopefully sooner than 8 years time.

The friendly, helpful service was a great start. The meals could have been made by chef Gordon Ramsay himself, as they were so good. Our waitress was very nice too. I honestly haven’t eaten out so well, and my wife had a second, same, dessert as she enjoyed it so much. What more can I say? Highly recommended 10/10.

Staying in Straiton for 3 nights & the host recommended the Kirkmichael Arms as a good dog friendly pub. Went on the first night, there is so much choice on the main menu & specials board.The food was amazing, my partner was a huge fan of the sticky toffee pudding. We were made to feel so welcome by the landlady Dorothy & the locals that we ate there every night even our dog was welcome. Will definitely go back.

Nice to be back in our fav restaurant! We cycled across from Prestwick via Dalrymple and Ballycoach. Social distancing measures in place and being adhered to. Restaurant was fairly busy for a Tuesday afternoon which was nice to see people still eating out even though the eat out to help out deal has ended. Now to the food - the main event Son had the pork belly starter and I had the Haggis Scotch egg. Both delicious. Son followed it up with the Smoked Haddock gratin and I had the lambs liver - both dishes well presented and faultless. We both had dessert - Son apple crumble and custard and me - choc fudge cake. We then got back on our bikes and cycled off the calories with a wee trip over the Carrick hills. Looking forward to our next visit in November to celebrate another family birthday

Booked dinner here as a family whilst on holiday. The locals were very welcoming when we arrived and the staff were pleasant to talk too even though they were clearly very busy. There were so many more food choices on the specials boards as well as the regular menu. Between us we had lots of different meals but the Chicken tempura starter, Haggis scotch egg, salmon (specials board) and Lasagne were exceptional! Lasagne is a particular favourite of mine and that was like nothing I’ve ever tasted before. The desserts were just as great! We saw the staff regularly cleaning the menus between tables, hand gel was provided and social distancing was adhered too. Can not recommend this place enough!!

We arrived at 12.20pm with our dog was met by an unwelcoming women who told us we could only sit in the bar as we had a dog. A "local" man came in and was welcomed and served before us. No lights on, server remained grumpy throughout our visit. My fiance and I were stared at as the server and "local" discussed other people in the village. Food was lovely but due to the frosty nature of staff I would not recommend. We left as soon as we could. Also no covid measures in place in bar as no masks worn by any servers.

We were staying in a B&B close by and we’re recommended this restaurant by our host. We had dinner on a Sunday night and the food was fabulous. The service was excellent and the staff friendly.Two of us chose to have steak and both were cooked to perfection, the quality was excellent too. The menu was unpretentious and offered great local product. It’s not your standard mass frozen food pub.The interior feels a little strange there are two distinct areas. It felt more like a cafe than a pub or restaurant. But this was just a minor thing and when I’m back I will visit again.

Wow!!! A hidden gem. Unassuming small village pub/restaurant with food to die for. Random Tuesday afternoon looking for somewhere to eat when holidaying near Turnberry and came across this place. A large menu, with many extras on the specials board made choosing something difficult. Hubby had steak which was apparently the best he's ever tasted. I had peppered pork strips with rice which was outstanding. Kids' menu was very full and appealing too - they cleared their plates. Everything was obviously made fresh to order and served piping hot. With a steady flow of diners and very efficient service this place is obviously well loved. Definitely worth coming off the main road for a visit, and very reasonably priced as well.

We arrived for a meal as a booked party of 8 (including four young children) and were told our booking had been read wrong (by them) and so we had to sit separately. No apology was offered and despite there being plenty of empty tables we were told these were booked for other parties of 4. After a few minutes of trying to make do by sitting as two separate families (defeating the object of going out with friends) we politely suggested a solution of using two other unoccupied tables, and that was very begrudgingly agreed to. Drinks and meal orders were taken and it seemed all would now go well. However that seemed to be the extent of the service. Other than giving us our food we were not asked about further drinks, offered dessert or even visited to clear our plates. It wasn’t especially busy so it wasn’t as if the staff were run off their feet, it was a case of being ignored. Eventually a member of our party got up and paid at the bar. The food itself was delicious but the rudeness of staff was inexcusable.

Called in with our little dog while staying in nearby Straiton, was made very welcome, had lunch which was excellent, we also had a small problem with car, which the Landlady helped by giving us the name of someone nearby who might help, which he did. Returned next day to thank her and have a another lovely meal.

What a superb place. We could easily have driven straight past this fantastic little pub & restaurant!. We met Dorothy(landlady)and locals on first visit...so friendly! We booked a table for next day & my, the food was stunning. Three wonderful courses, each one amazing! Delicious, new & hat's off to those chefs! We went back twice more...continued to impress. Thank you - you may well need to book as it has great reputation. Long may it continue!

We returned to the Kirkmichael once again (last visit Feb 2020.) We cannot recommend the food and atmosphere enough. Our children were made to feel welcome as always and the menu has something for everyone. If you are a steak lover you MUST try the ribeye, it is delicious. From a COVID19 point of view we were all made to feel very safe, clear signage, hand sanitizer stations and a one way system made everyone feel at ease.How you don’t have 5 trip advisor stars is beyond me! Excellent on every level. We will be back next February no doubt!

We stayed at Culzean for the weekend and found Maybole disappointing. Someone recommended the Kirkmichael Arms and we were so impressed that we went back the next night also. A friendly reception coupled with imaginative options on the Specials board made a memorable place to eat. Locally sourced food is served on warmed plates by attentive staff.

When my family arrived (myself, my wife and two adult sons) for our booking here, there was a large group sat outside; they exchanged a friendly hello with us. We sat and enjoyed agonising over the menu: an unpretentious range of classic gastro pub fare that all looked good.Sadly, the beers let this place down: if you're a real ale drinker, expect to be sorely disappointed or go elsewhere, but read on to find out what you might miss out on, and the reason I chose NOT to lower my reveiw rating!We then glanced across to the specials board and entered another period of indecision: lots more locally-sourced foods that sounded delicious.We chose steak & sausage pie, chicken & haggis, locally caught mackeral and pan-fried sea bass with spaghetti. We all thoroughly enjoyed our food - so much so that I've even almost forgiven them for the beer travesty. Almost.Some readers may want to know that they weren't especially cautious about covid, (e.g. servers didn't wear face masks) so be aware of that if you're wary or vulnerable.So the food is worth travelling many miles for; the service was friendly and the prices very reasonably given the food's quality. Shame about the beer. Come on, Kirkmichael arms: you've almost got the perfect pub dining experience; don't let yourselves down on the beer! There's no excuse for that!

We popped into the Kirkmichael Arms on Monday for some dinner we hadn't booked but this didn't seem to be an issue.The food was amazing, we really struggled to choose as the menu had so much to offer. The sirloin steak I ordered was one of the best I have had. We came in expecting standard 'pub grub' and instead ended up with a full 3 course gourmet meal at a reasonable price. It was Dog friendly in the bar and very accommodating for us and our large German Shepherd, really good service from all the staff towards us and the dog too!!We left happy and very full (Dog included, Thank you for his treat!) We will definitely be returning and would reccomend.
