We had a lovely dining experience here on a Friday night out in Edinburgh. Our taxi driver provided the recommendation and we were so glad that we made a booking. True Italian service and excellent quality seafood. We had the octopus and monk fish starter and the seafood linguine as our main although the menu does change daily. I would recommend for anyone looking for authentic Italian cuisine in a relaxed environment

Recommended by a friend to visit whilst in Edinburgh on our honeymoon. The restaurant was very busy and it was great to see this for a small family business on a Tuesday evening (31st October). The staff were extremely friendly and chatty and really made our evening. We shared the lamb ragu for starter and then ordered the fish platter to share for a main course. The food was delicious and so fresh! On the platter we were served, grilled swordfish, rainbow trout, tuna steak and langoustine. It was a show piece! Really lovely gesture offering us a glass of fizz on the house to celebrate our honeymoon. Thank you so much. We will be back when we next visit Edinburgh!

Great food, staff and atmosphere in this fantastic restaurant. This is the first time I’ve been there and will definitely recommend as well as go back. We all had a wonderful frittata with mushrooms and truffle oil, all of us loved it. 2 of us had the fish platter , with the others having wonderful pasta dishes with the house wine which was excellent quality.

We had an especially good time at Locanda De Gusti. Indeed, I would potentially say this is one of my favourite Italian restaurants - certainly, when we visit Edinburgh again, we'll be returning here. As soon as we arrived we were well looked after by servers - this continued throughout the meal, they weren't obtrusive yet at the same time they always noticed when wine or water glasses were empty. We started with a couple of cocktails and were given a very tasty and fresh amuse bouche (a kind of panzanella). We followed with a starter of ravioli and some kind of gooey cheese + asparagus sandwich (I forget what it was called). Both were delicious + satisfying. The quality was spot on, but you also felt you were being well fed as well. For the main course we chose the Grigliata di Pesce - a medley of grilled fish, prawns and langoustines. Again, everything was cooked incredibly well - and the fish/seafood was perfect to follow the more rich starters. We couldn't manage a dessert, but next time we will try! A very nice touch was a shot of limoncello at the end. I'd thoroughly recommend this restaurant and am jealous of those who live in Edinburgh!

What a great meal we had here. Grilled fish platter, soft and savory ravioli and such good wine. We had the pistachio pudding and a new Italian dessert wine. Definitely 5 stars! The staff and environment added to a very nice night out.

We came to Edinburgh for a weekend and I can say that as food lovers we definitely ate in 1 of the best autentic italian restaurants in Edinburgh. I felt like home, i hope to see you soon

Since my last review, I'vehad another series of stratospheric meals at the Locanda. Last time we went for the classic pasta with "genovese" sauce, one of the most intense flavour experiences you can imagine, with the deep sweetness from the onion caramelization and umami from the meat; and a new entry, pasta with a cream of peas, superbly fresh and light and Summery, with just the right amount of spicy heat to add a dimension. And for main, another super-classic, the "mare nel piatto", full of delights from the sea, and welcome pieces of toasted bread to soak up all the goodness that remains in the soup. We also tried a delicious frittata starter (the mare nel piatto is so large that we had no space for a second main after the pastas!), coming with gazpacho, a stroke of genius by chef Rosario. To conclude, we could only fit two affogati with hazelnut ice-cream, forgoing the other tempting options. Service was led by the extraordinary duo Elena and Raffaele who so much contribute to the unique atmosphere of this place. Prices remain supremely reasonable for the quality (and quantity!), in spite of the cost rise that has affected everybody.

Excellent choice for Seafood focused Italian food. The restaurant is quaint and the staff is knowledgeable and caring. They made you feel like family.

First visit as previous attempts to book unsuccessful. Suggest booking well in advance. Well worth the wait and already booked to return. Great service and warmth from all front of house staff. Special mention to Laura. The food….absolutely loved it. Shared Frittata and Caprese to start. Tough decisions from mains but for maximum enjoyment had the grilled fish platter and the sautéed seafood platter…..both for one. All delicious. The grilled fillets of fish as good as anything I can recall anywhere. Good wine list to match. Greco di Tufo excellent. Overall not cheap for our choices but was a special occasion and for the overall service, atmosphere, tastes felt great value.

Had a meal here on Saturday and was one of the best (if not the best) meals I have had in a long time. The food was so fresh and full of flavour. Very well presented, and service was perfect and staff are very friendly and welcomin. Nice time between starters and mains also. Very reasonably priced for the quality of food. My partner is the fussiest eater in the world, and she loved it. Will definitely be back. Top marks.
