Make a Reservation at the Gallery in City of London, Westminster

I am surprised to see not many reviews on this place. We spend a half a day at F&M visiting all the floors of food and drinks. At the end we had a bite to eat at this area. Service was good and food tasted yummy. Obviously food here is not cheap. We visited this place last summer. Drop down box is not letting me select beyond December 2019.

More casual dining than we recall from a few years ago, but still good. The food we had was excellent and would happily visit again. The only slight niggle was we were given a table close to the kitchen and toilets so although there was plenty of room for people to pass, there was a continual flow of people passing. I realise now though that we could have requested another table if one was available elsewhere in the restaurant. Other than this we were a very happy party of four!!

Enjoyed a lovely lunch of soup and fish & chips. Both were outstanding as was the service from Maria and Karolina. We will return.

As always, another fabulous meal at The Gallery. Fantastic food and great service make it a favourite of ours whenever we are in London.

I have eaten at The Gallery on a few occasions in Fortnums and so chose it for an early Mother’s Day celebration. OpenTable asked me if there was a celebration, to which I answered, but wasn’t sure why. Turns out, for no reason as no one asked me if we were celebrating or made a fuss of my Mum in any way. In fact the service was at best, poor. The waitress was unattentive and left us sat for quite some time without coming over. Eventually I had to ask for some tap water which she duly provided in small glasses and then was not seen again, so I had to ask someone else so fill them up again. The other drinks were forgotten about so again I had to ask about them. Considering my Mum has always loved Fortnums, I thought this trip to London and the Gallery for lunch would be special, unfortunately it just left me with a large service tip, of which I feel I had absolutely none.

We arrived long after my reservation but the staff accommodated us easily and showed us how to get the best value from the menu.

A reliable and central venue to meet friends who may not be familiar with London. The Welsh Rarebit is still the best!

Lovely experience, excellent food, service and atmosphere

Annual meeting with friends in London to celebrate. The service was great and the food delicious. Especially the soup was a wonderful experience! Loved it!

The Gallery Restaurant is set at the back of the Ground Floor of Fortnum and Mason's with an open plan arrangement. The Service was excellent with attentive friendly staff, while the food was of good quality and well presented the Menu and Wine List were limited. Would recommend for a comfortable meal, close to Piccadilly and the areas many attractions including the Royal Academy opposite.

Our visit 20/2 was overall very good. However, a small mess up with our order meant we were waiting over 30 mins, what saved the day was a senior team member who apologised very quietly and confidently and gave us on the house a extra drink each. This mended the situation, so I thank you, The Gallery Team for looking after my mum and I on a special day! Thanks we will be back soon

On the occasion of my mother’s 91st birthday I booked a table in the restaurant. She has been a life long lover of Fortnums and has many happy memories of the store. The service was slow, and I had to ask twice for water as I was on medication.

Service & meal was exceptional.

The service was extremely slow. Not one member of the staff actually came to us , we had to stop them whilst they were serving or clearing tables for drinks, food and then the bill. We had a table for 4 booked 15/2/20 at 12:15

Always enjoy going to this restaurant for the ambience, food and the service and value.

Staff were attentive and efficient. Food was incredible. Would be good to have bread served automatically with the starter of soup. Well done.

Great restaurant and venue, always love going there

We went for breakfast. I had Eggs royale which was very good but slightly disappointed there was no “full English” option. Coffee was in quite small cups.

A most enjoyable meal; good value, good service and the staff were very helpful in providing my wife with gluten-free items. It was our first visit; but it will not be our last. Thank you.

Just love going to Fortnum and Mason, amazing store with so many restaurants to choose from. My friend and I had lunch in the Gallery Restaurant to celebrate our birthdays. Great ambience, food was great. Service was good too. After lunch we were given a piece of cake with two candles with Happy Birthday written in chocolate. We thought that was a lovely touch.

The restaurant looks very tired. Staff were over-zealous and tried to rush us into ordering. Food, which was ok, but nothing special, arrived with almost indecent haste. Drinks list was whipped away before we had time to choose and I had to ask for it back. Having been asked several times if everything was all right we were thankfully then left alone. Getting the bill and paying it was tortuous. I was tempted to start walking out to see if that would provoke some action. I shall not be coming back.

The food was really great! And the atmosphere was so comfortable that my friends and I had nice afternoon there!

Very nice food, in a relaxed setting, with very good service, offering very good value for money, in the heart of the West End. Super. Will be making this our regular venue for pre-opera/ballet/theatre dinner for our trips to London. Highly recommended.

The food was very good. The service to the table was acceptable but the drinks extremely slow... the initial beers were brought when we were mid way through the main course and the wine we had to ask for at the end of the main course.

We had a 3-course For The Love of Food on a Sunday lunchtime. Everything was perfect, with the only exception that we felt a bit too full at the end of the dessert. Other than that, it’s really good!

I took my mum for her birthday. We both had a good time. The food was great. I was very impressed with the service and their understanding and care over my gluten-free preferences. I will definitely return

Had a lovely lunch, requested a table by the window, no trouble, absolutely charming staff. The two course set meal with wine was excellent value and our waiter was very helpful.

No longer the selection is very small and the quality more than average. It used to be excellent and to offer a large selection........NO LONGER

We were given a window table which was very nice and the Welsh rarebit and salad,which came quickly was delicious. The Sancerre we drank was very good indeed and we finished our meal with a chestnut tart. Will be going again as it is a very pleasant place in which to have lunch!

I met a friend for a special Birthday lunch at the Gallery Restaurant. We both had the fillet of brill and it was absolutely delicious. The champagne and wine we had were excellent too. Great, friendly service in a lovely atmosphere.

They could more on the plate on some of the dishes. Maybe some background music. Staff were lovely and friendly as well as professional.

Love everything here especially desserts. We got there at noon before the rush and got seated right away. Scotch eggs are absolutely delicious here! Highly recommended.

We come to F&M every year and usually have a table for 7/9 for two consecutive lunches- last year I complained and got no response, this year we tried again- cold soup, dire service and terrible attitude- we cancelled the table for the second day and went elsewhere. Our local restaurant at home gives better service. We will not be back unless things change- I did this survey last year and you didn’t reply so I am not holding my breath. A real disappointment- will let friends know

The three of us found the service presentation and food quality of a very high standard, and we certainly are also thinking the fish & chips looks great , be back again, must mention 3 course menu looks fair value, the only tiny whinge was with the smoke salmon choice initself great but very tiny portions of sourdour bread to balance the salmon. For me you can't beat the buck rabit. thank you and lets all enjoy 2020. Alan J Robertson

Very busy when I was there,waitresses helpful, and pleasant although rushed off their feet at times.Food was good, and atmosphere noisy and happy. Great views from the Windows.

Excellent food as always at quite a reasonable price. Very delicious artichoke soup with truffle that is to die for. Top notch service. Only fault is that it is very busy and crowded due to popularity so would recommend reserving in advance.

We had only a main course, that was the plan. but also an aperitive.. the apero came quite late, the food quick + together a bottle of wine. Not perfectly organised so in the end we decided to take another course cause we still had this bottle of wine. Could be a bit better. but we enjoyed it anyhow

Food quality far from justifying the prices. Service fairly impersonal. Sitting can be nice if you sit by the windows. All in all a disappointing experience.

Great place for afternoon tea (as well as more formal lunches). It was nice to be able to have with that a warm dish or two. The smoked salmon was delicious, as was, I'm reliably informed the rarebit. All simple but presented well by knowledgeable waiting staff. One can actually have a conversation without actually hearing that of people on adjoining tables such is the ambience. One never feels one is waiting too long to be seated, attended to by a waiter taking one's order or served food and drink. There never seems to be an urge to get your table vacated for the next diners; all so effortlessly seamless. Finally, it's never as expensive as one might imagine, or maybe that's because Fortnum And Mason's is such good value and a great experience, hopefully not for the first and only time. I look forward to the next time.

The food was very disappointing. Apart from the crab starter which was delicious, the smoked salmon starter for the money was poor. The taste wasn't exceptional & the amount of salmon for the money wasn't good. The Bellini for £13.50 I was given just half a champagne glass full & the restaurant itself was average, now wow factor.

The soup was horrible and they still sold it to tourists expect Londoner. This is very disappointing and also the worst experience I had in my whole life .

It is a pleasant restaurant, service was very good & speedy. Meal was good but the vegetables were virtually raw so not really edible

Lovely location ambience and good service. However the venison pies were dry (why we were served spoons when they were clearly not needed and no garnish or any attempt to dress the dishes were missing.

The food was tasty. Only 2 bemols were we were told on arrival that the kitchen was closing at the exact time of the booking, so we had to order in a rush. Our menu included mince pies and what we got was one mince pie cut in half to share between the two of us. That was weird. The decor and ambiance were very average. All in all, I know better places to spend what we did. It's a shame, because the food was indeed very good, but let down by the organisation and management.

Would not visit this restaurant so close to Christmas again. Far too busy and very noisy to have a conversation. Also not enough staff to cover this busy period.

We had lunch at the Gallery. There wasn’t much choice for my vegetarian daughter and the dish she chose had a very unpleasant flavour and had to be sent back. This was removed from the bill and replaced with another menu item. The service was good, pleasant and friendly staff and the rest of the meal was good.

Had a great pre Christmas lunch with smoked salmon starter and ox cheek main. Was wonderful. Great wine and great service. I felt that the mashed potatoes weren’t hot enough and got a new serving. Will definitely come again!

We arrived before our allocated time and our table wasn’t ready but we were offered seats and a glass of water which was very much appreciated. I lunch in the Gallery Restaurant with my son every year before Xmas and it is an absolute delight.

Booked for a birthday treat and mentioned this when booking. Disappointed to be sat in a corner next to a stack of high chairs and the doors to the kitchen and cloakroom. Not the environment I was expecting particularly when other tables were empty. We looked forward to the famous Welsh rarebit we had enjoyed on previous visits. This time is was very disappointing, served on a thin piece of toast, tasted mainly of cheese topped with indifferent thin charred bacon (it used to be thick sliced sweet cured bacon). No sign of anything green on the plate (as before) and still felt hungry afterwards. The mint refresher we used to love, is now lemonade with mint in it and not a patch on the original. All in all very disappointing. Will choose another venue next time.

Had a very enjoyable team meal in the Fortnum & Mason Gallery Restaurant. We all chose the 2 course option from the Christmas menu. The food was tasty and the service was attentive. We managed to get a table in a quieter part of the restaurant, which was inspired. Maybe I am getting old, but why do restaurant customers feel the need to have their conversations at volume 10 nowadays?

Service was great, very friendly staff. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Fortnum & Mason and the Gallery restaurant were very busy as you would expect at Christmas. Service was slow for our lunch but the food was good

I meet a friend every year to have a meal before Christmas. I always have the Christmas menu which this year was called Winter Feast!! Instead of beautiful slices of turkey the menu was changed to "turkey roulade" which was tasteless, overcooked and very bland. The potatoes were overcooked and the vegetables included a few minuscule pieces of brussels sprout. A great pity because last tear the turkey was one of the very best I have ever eaten! I hope that Fortnums will take note and reinstate a proper Christmas meal next year.

Booked for a Christmas lunch with an old friend. Disappointed to see very little decoration in the restaurant and not a lot of festive atmosphere. Also the menu referred to the Christmas meal as Winter Feast. Despite the restaurant being incredibly busy the service was very good and there was no sense of feeling rushed. The food was very tasty and the plum pudding was divine. We ordered a gin fiz and it arrived in a long glass and tasted fairly weak. The overall experience was however very good and I look forward to visiting the restaurant again next year.

Arriving early we were greeted courteously and seated promptly orders were taken efficiently , two guests ordered starters during all three ordered mains. Drinks arrived promptly however when it came to our food the main course was presented first I pointed out we were awaiting starters and so the mains were taken away starters arrived with a complimentary avocado salad by way of apology this was gratefully accepted, then the mains arrived my mother-in-law had ordered venison pie which appeared overcooked, although she asked advice regarding vegetables before ordering and seemed assured there were sufficient she was disappointed that they were inside the pie. I didn’t raise issue as this was part of her Christmas treat from ourselves however I do think more attention is needed regarding menu explanations and order taking, the supervisor taking orders was pleasant enough if very abrupt.

Such a shame so noisy. A few years ago had tea upstairs and it was quiet and really lovely. Thought the gallery would be the same. However meal and service were very good

Very noisy and over crowded . Had to queue despite arriving on time for booked table . Plates whipped out from under us when we’d barely finished eating , they obviously wanted the table back . Sprouts were like bullets , had to ask for gravy twice and had to ask for mince pies despite menu saying they came with tea and coffee . Obligatory service charge automatically added . Poor show from F&M . It’s turned into a tourist trap sadly .

We went for our Christmas shopping and meal afterwards. Had three course winter feast. Wonderful dinner, great service, fantastic experience.

We had the winter set menu and was great value for money! 2 courses and tea or coffee +mince pies for £32 The food was beautifully presented and prepared. Our waiter was very friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. We will definitely return.

Lovely place to eat, it was a very busy pre Christmas Saturday, but staff did well to achieve good service level. Food was it as hot as I would have hoped.

Not the usual standard this time which I was surprised about. Usually it’s 5 star food and service but it was incredibly busy. We’ll still be back though.

The Gallery restaurant at F&M is not a place I would normally go to though I had arranged lunch with a good friend who has been dining here for a long time. It is Christmas and the place was packed with a buzzy atmosphere. I admit to be pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and portions were generous. The tables are quite well spaced and service was professional and friendly. We drank a nice bottle of Spanish white and all in all this was an enjoyable lunch and I would happily go again.
