Friendly atmosphere and OK overall. Nice mix of tasting courses. Unfortunately, some were rather salty and spoiled the overall experience.

I cannot express how much we enjoyed our time at MGJ. The atmosphere and decor in the restaurant is amazing. Not pretentious at all - very chilled out vibe where it's all about the food. Service was impeccable and the food was 10/10. I can't wait to visit again. Special mention for the eggy bread and decent music!!!🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿💙

What a fabulous experience, a small knit team with exceptional front of house and cooking skills. Each dish was crafted with care and delivered with passion; the wine flight a wonderful accompaniment and the brilliantly eclectic music flight was thrown in for free.

Next level Dinning experience. The food is is to die for , the service was bob on and the drinks kept coming. Chasing the flight of wines to go with the tasting menu was a winning move. We love this place and the staff. Also best playlist of any restaurant ever top work

Excellent tasting menu in an unpretentious and relaxed setting

Our meal at Menu Gordon Jones was stunning. The food and menu choices were delicious and beautifully presented- we loved that it was all a surprise too. The service here was amazing, what began with a warm welcome from the chef himself opening the door for us to escape the rain, to the brilliant waitress, it was all flawless. A trendy and cool vibe in a relaxed and intimate atmosphere with unparalleled attention to detail. Couldn’t recommend enough!

I don't know where to start! exceptional from start to finish. my wife took me here for my 50th, I do like my food, and this venue did not disappoint, from start to finish we were at ease and enjoyed every mouthful. decent people serving us pieces of art on our plate, explaining every dish. we left with a smile on our faces and a belly full of food. we will be back. keep being you and doing what you do!

This place is an absolute must visit if you like great food, great atmosphere and great people. My wife and I went as a treat whilst in Bath for the weekend and it was honestly the best meal and restaurant experience we have ever had. We will be back!!

We love this place. I remember coming way back when it first opened and we had the most amazing chocolate bread course, it sounds weird but it worked so well. We have been back many times and the staff, food, and of course the legend Gordon never fail to impress.

JUST GO - substantial, high quality, imaginative and delicious food. All courses were explained by the chefs, we did the wine pairing too, which included a number of wines we didn't know. Probably the best 1 star we have been to anywhere , not just in uk. My only suggestion would be to slow the time between the 7 courses a touch. We will definitely be back. Service faultless.

The chef very humbly welcomed us in. The atmosphere was very welcoming and cozy, and the decor happy and rebellious. Excellent music, open kitchen, the bathroom sarcastic and hilarious. Food: divine. The finest layering, fresh and not pretentious whatsoever. With one sentence: fine anti-conformist dining. We are DEFINITELY going back.

A five star, fine dining experience with a staff that isn’t into themselves. Flavors were mixed and varied, the presentations were delightful, and the service was superb. Too good for Michelin.

This was a gift for my wife and I. It was a great experience from being greeted by the chef at the door to being served by a kitchen chef with details of what you are about to eat. A small intimate venue the drinks are very reasonable which was a surprise but the meal was as much as we've ever spent on food. It was as good as food should be. And to be honest was 90% of what I would expect anywhere, short of McDonald's, but definitely in any self respecting restaurant. However you never get it and you have to pay this amount to have a decent evening. The staff are all friendly and can give you all the attention you need without ever being too attentive. I'd say it's about as perfect as you could want. It's a lot of money and I find it difficult to suggest it's good value unless your hobby is dining out. It was an amazing gift and exceptional because of that fact. As a monthly treat, I wish I could afford it.

3 years ago my wife and I had the pleasure of discovering MGJ during our vacation which then became our go to restaurant on each possible visit, the food was the most created with equal flavors. Unfortunately, this last experience (Sept 2023) showed a different creative direction and although the flavors were still there with each course, the creativity and originality had disappointedly diminished that we cannot now justify the overall experience against the $$$$ - staff are still extremely friendly, knowledgeable and very accommodating, especially Gordon

Had such a lovely meal. Great service, amazing and inventive food (the mackerel and rhubarb was heavenly) and the chefs take pride in their work, are happy to chip in with service and have a chat about their food.

Quite possibly the best restaurant in Bath

Never had a taster menu before so uncertain what to expect. Eight courses which were a surprise and incredibly delicious with each plate being described by the chef. Each course was accompanied with wine again described by a very knowledgeable wine waitress. If in Bath again would like to go again.

Totally different menu to 2020 when last here. Fabulous. Exciting, different, and engaged staff who clearly love what they're delivering.

We had the surprise tasting menu (it's all they offer) with the flight of wine. An amazing experience from start to.finish. I've never experienced food like it, the whole meal was eaten with a smile. The pace is leisurely and the service unfussy with food delivered to the table by the chefs. The wines matched perfectly to each dish. The stand out dish was the chicken and prawn tortelini. I'd eat there every month if I could afford to!

Amazing food and staff were super attentive! 100% would come back! Only thing I'd say is please remove the trippy mirror from the bathroom above the sink and just have a normal one there.

Unbelievable experience from start to end. Gordon is a real showman from the explanation of the food to the tastefully decorated interior. Not to mention the creative and well-thought out menu of delicious and exciting flavours. It was all over too quickly and I can’t wait to go back.

An exotic taster menu which is a novel way of celebrating special occasions. Perhaps the service was a bit too fast but food and friendliness were faultless.

I had a surprise treat for my Birthday. I wanted to go here for a very long time. It was amazing. From the minute we arrived it was a treat. We did the 9 course taster menu with wine flight. ( lunch time) The venue is quirky, the chefs knowledgeable and Amelia friendly and really helped us understand the wines. Highly recommend. This is a must xx

After years of hearing others say how special it was I finally went. We are so lucky Gordon Jones has chosen Bath to set up and stay running his own little place, outside the centre of town. For me its sustained reputation, atmosphere, location and size make this one of the most important cultural places of Bath in recent years, since the Spa was built (in my opinion!). Most of Bath's history is about the very old, so its special to have something a bit newer to be proud of. We've very lucky to have you and a lovely team, thanks all.

Wonderful tasting menu for our first visit.

Incredible experience throughout! Amelia is a really lovely host from answering my email to welcoming me at the restaurant itself. Chef Gordon is just such a character with all his funny stories and comments. Most importantly the food were excellent! My favourite dishes were the Rabbit & Beans and...the Bag of Bread (sourdough with bloody Mary butter & artichoke syrup and fish roe butter (?)) I took the non-alcoholic flight which was absolutely delicious and went well with the dishes. I left the restaurant a very happy customer. I will definitely return if I ever visit Bath again!

Amazing, amazing, amazing! My wife and I enjoyed the tasting menu and paired wines on a special night for our 10th wedding anniversary. Every morsel was exquisite with the most amazing due care and attention put into every bite and sip. From ingredients to the sensations on the pallet everything was sensational. To top things off I even got a secret seconds of the lamb. Thank you so much guys for an amazing night to remember. Can’t wait to return James & Louise.

Hands down the best dining experience of my 40 year life and has ruined any future dining experiences! The atmosphere is epic! The little touches of the decor and the informal yet professional and friendly service is the best I have ever had! One of Bath’s best restaurants. Very surprised to see it not have a Michelin star as it’s certainly at that standard with the food and service. Some of the dishes were very inventive and not your usual “modern French cuisine”, which made it refreshing. It was also a nice touch to have the chef come out to deliver some of the dishes and talk about them. Certainly made the whole experience more personal.

This is the best restaurant in the UK. Hands down brilliant. It doesn't have a Michelin Star but it is so much better than any restaurant you will find in the guide. Absolutely brilliant from start to finish, the restaurant I would eat in every day if I could.

The reviews were great and we were not disappointed.I never thought I would rave about cauliflower,but Gordon's purple cauliflower soup was beyond sublime.The 7 course taster menu was beautifully presented,the individual dishes were varied,yet complemented each other,resulting in a unique dining experience.We were also blessed with all the dishes served by Gordon,who in his inimitable style,described each course in turn.All the staff were friendly and obliging.If the staff want to be there,you feel the same.Highly recommended.Well done.

This was my second visit to MGJ and it didn't disappoint (05/11/21) the food and atmosphere were excellent, outstanding dishes for me where the Monkfish, pink fir potatoes, swede curry, baby leaf spinach, Venison Loin & steamed pudding red cabbage, the Cheese course of Cornish gouda was a dream and the Dates and Apple pudding....WOW

This was a real treat for us and we loved every part of our food journey. The food was delicious and exquisitely presented. We loved the decor, resin tables and interesting/unusual eclectic tableware. The whole team were exceptionally informative and attentive.

This was a long lunch and when food, drink and service is this good then it is just decadent.Mushroom soup, superb (you just want to run your finger around the pot and clear all of it out...The Mackerel with the Asian cure and flavours was superb.I love my meat and the venison was great but the next two courses, OMG: The cheese, a morsel of magic and then the Beetroot, Cabbage and Blackcurrant for dessert - the beetroot sorbet, wow, just wowThank you

Back again for the annual treat! Food was fabulous and service so friendly and attentive. Took a colleague (who has experienced many fine dining experiences) to whom I’ve raved about MGJ for many years and was slightly concerned I’d perhaps built up expectations too much - need not have worried, he thought it was great!

Our first visit and we weren’t disappointed. Met at the door by a chilled Gordon, we were welcomed in and immediately made to feel valued as a customer. Every course was well designed, crafted and presented. The personal approach with the chefs serving and explaining each course was a welcome surprise and added much to the dining experience. Gordon was happy to stop and explain his ethos, the provenance of the produce and the development of his menus.

It's hard to know what to add to the many very positive reviews left for MGJ... I visited for lunch, on the last Saturday of Oct, the weather blowy and the trees that mix of greens & golds you get just before autumn fades it into winter - I needed something to cheer me up! My lunch at MGJ did the job. This was my second visit and I could see Covid down-time had been well spent on decor. Gone was the slightly faded genteel tea-room feel and instead there's lovely matching wood & resin wall panels and tables - nice!What I like best about MGJ is the central premise - that no thinking is required - you just turn up, sit down and wait for plate after plate of lovely, tasty, beautiful-looking food to be set down by the cheery waiting staff (and wine after unusual wine too, if you order the wine flight).This trip's stand-out dishes were a purple, foamy perfectly-seasoned cauliflower & cheese soup served with the cutest little onion bhaji and a sweet crimson jewel of beetroot sorbet, served with blackcurrant cream cheese & red cabbage water - there's some serious cooking left-field going on here and for me, it works bang on.Chef takes whatever ingredients that catch his eye and blends them cleverly together and creates good-looking & tasty dishes time after time - this approach must be hard, hard work both in planning and execution. The frenzy of activity visible in the open plan kitchen bares this out - but the practiced smooth-running machine that is the front-of-house team, turns the frenzy into a slick & easy eating experience. Discrete disco-dancing was visible going on behind the bar which is a measure of the team's cooperation skills and general joie-de-vivre...The menu is presented after the meal, which is the right way to do it - the whole point of MGJ is to receive a succession of dishes, each presented as a surprise and a pleasure.MGJ is an occasional treat for me as it quite dear, but each time I go, I thoroughly enjoy it and always start to look forward to the next time, while I'm on the train back home to Bristol!

We went on a Thursday evening having been on the waiting list for a table. The food and service were impeccable. The venue was intimate and a little out of the centre. It was informal and relaxed for fine dining. Would definitely come back if in Bath again. I would not recommend for fussy eaters or the unadventurous. The only course I didn't love was the first dessert course.

Visited this for the ‘taster’ lunch. Very impressed that Gordon Jones himself opened the door to us. It’s a small restaurant but that is in no way a problem. The staff were very attentive and knowledgable and also enjoyed a bit of ‘banter’ with ourselves. The food was excellent and service was perfect. This is a small restaurant, in a suburb of Bath, with most tables quite close together. One loo. We went for lunch. Food was good. A couple of the courses we thought were very good. Owner Gordon was around, and talked to some of the guest tables. Personally, I would prefer to get the menu at the start, and be able to refer to it; rather than receive at the very end.

Highlight of our visit to BathMenu Gordon Jones…Firstly the way you are personally greeted by GJ and staff, puts a smile on your face and immediately makes you feel relaxed. The atmosphere is very welcoming, beautiful decor, great vibe and also loved your choice of music.. no snootiness or pretentiousness- whatsoeverMuch more than food.. the dishes are visually stunning, art on beautifully designed plates and with no menu beforehand, each dish really stirs and excites the senses, served by either the chef’s themselves or Amelia, explaining the dish in detail. A fantastic experience, truly unique, creative and inspirational.

Everything about Menu Gordon Jones was excellent. The food and surprise menu being the main thing and every course was interesting and delicious. But additionally, the wine, the decor, the crockery, the playlist and the fun interactions with Gordon Jones and his team. Really recommend visiting here.

We wanted something a little special to celebrate an anniversary and Menu Gordon Jones didn't disappoint. The entire meal was thoughtful and elegant and left us wanting more. If you like your collars starched this place possibly isn't for you but if you want to eat wonderful local produce cooked with care, passion and inventiveness you'll be hard pressed to find anywhere better in the south of England. And the service is second to none as well.

There's not much I can say that hasn't already been said about the superb food so I'll mention other aspects of the night. We were sat by the open kitchen so derived a lot of fun watching the owner and his staff prepare each course. We chose the wine flight because we decided we wanted the whole experience. I have never had wine paired with the food before because I was never convinced it was a thing but this left me converted. Each glass of wine really did complement the food being served. My only slight gripe was I had to pay a extra £10 for the dessert wine, but in for a penny, in for a pound. The sommelier nicely explained the choices of wine she had chosen for each course. Some have complained about the music and décor but I felt both these added to the experience by making the whole thing feel less stuffy than you might expect in a Michelin starred restaurant.

A wonderful 8 course plus wine flight experience. Having dined in many 3* top restaurants Gordon is on their coattails but not yet at 3* prices. Brilliant food and service - I read an earlier review commenting on the music being too loud but we thought It was great and added to the vibe. Given it’s all fresh local ingredients in the main and a new menu pops up frequently makes the experience and culinary artistry even more impressive. We will return for sure - book early as unsurprisingly there is a stack of people doing the same!

I visited menu Gordon Jones a little while ago and while the food and service were excellent I was concerned that they seemed to be taking absolutely no covid precautions. I recently made a booking with them and asked what their protocols were, hoping at least they’d be doing lateral flow tests on their employees since these are free, accessible and encouraged by the government. I explained that I’d be having contact with a vulnerable person so I wanted to establish if it would be safe to come. I received a rather passive aggressive reply saying they didn’t wear masks, social distance or test their employees, the only thing they did was keep a door open (in their extremely small, packed restaurant) and ask their employees to be sensible on their days off. I was told if I didn’t feel comfortable I shouldn’t come, as though it was unreasonable for me to expect that they might have some respect for the safety of their customers or employees. I appreciate they are not breaking the law but I would’ve expected they would have taken covid more seriously or at least not taken the attitude that I was being unreasonable to respectfully enquire about their safety measures.

A warm and friendly welcome by chef was a good start of the journey at this very cosy restaurant with such a relaxed ambience. Food is full of amazing varied taste and completed by its presentability and excellent service. Gordon has truly added a great charm to this beautiful city and made us determined to come back.

Impossible to fault our lunch visit. After being greeted at the doorway by the man himself, we tucked into a procession of amazing dishes and wines, each described and served by GJ or one of his cheery and helpful team. There's a wonderfully chilled vibe to the whole experience that, for the quality of food on offer, is great value for money. Loved the tunes too. What a joy!

Came to bath for the day and got a reservation at this interesting restaurant its a 7 course tester menu all dishes were fantastic bursting with flavours. Presentation was pleasantly applied with thought and pleasing to the eye. I would recommend this place even if you go once. Service was good each dish is explained by the waiter/waitress. Nice atmosphere music being played at the time was The Cure which made my husband very happy!
