Nishimura Sushi and Noodle Bar in Swansea

Had a lovely lunch here this week. I liked the layout and design of the restaurant, but can imagine that if it was busy it could be very loud. Fortunately, there were only 4-5 other tables occupied when we were there. We thought everything we ordered was very delicious and fresh. I know others have complained that it was expensive, but good sushi always is I’m afraid. The tuna dragon roll was particularly fantastic. I will certainly be back!

The first impression is too bright and empty, and everything is very overpriced, the stuff are not very attentive, for the price we pay I don’t think it’s a nice experience

What an awful experience having booked a table at 8.30pm in the ‘restaurant’. More like a canteen, extremely brightly lit, and definitely not a pleasant dining experience! We ordered promptly, and starters arrived speedily, but halfway through our main course, the staff started mopping the floors with buckets around our feet!!!! Unbelievable!! We were told that the kitchen had closed when we tried to order a dessert at 9.10pm. We were then chivvied to the desk to pay, whilst our table was cleared completely, even our unfinished wine! DO NOT book a table after 8pm or you will not have time to eat it! The staff and manager are clueless about any sort of dining experience, just take your money and can’t get you out quick enough!! Food is ok ….. they should just concentrate on takeaways, or re-name their establishment as a ‘diner’ or cafe.

Drove past on our way down to the Mumbles and were intrigued by the gorgeous artwork on the building, got to our rental place to find the Nishimura menu had been provided in the house - after looking at how many amazing options there were we knew we had to go in and try it! The food is absolutely divine. I had the pumpkin katsu udon noodle soup and my partner had the pumpkin katsu curry. I also enjoyed the agedashi tofu. I can honestly say it was probably the best Japanese cuisine I have ever had! The staff were all very friendly and the service was very fast, we didn't have to wait long for our food at all and it was all hot and fresh. My only regret is that we only had time to eat here once - I'm desperate to return! Also love that there were hi-chews instead of little mints on the counter when we paid. Perhaps consider opening a branch in Hereford - I imagine I could single-handedly fund the entire operation with my sales alone!

Lovely open and well laid out place Very friendly staff and great choice. As we had never been before we asked lots of questions and the young lady was very helpful. We had a few things and it was all very nice and a great choice with a little help 😇 We didn’t use chopsticks and we were given cutlery which was not a problem at all. All in all a very pleasant experience and great food and very welcoming place It’s a must do for a really good change from the norm.

An unusual but pleasant experience. Very canteen looking inside but excellent service and attention from the serving team. Food was plentiful and was very quick to be served. Would recommend this cafe for an early evening meal or lunch

This is our third visit this summer. Last night was exceptional. We were 13 adults, a baby and two dogs. the staff were brilliant, the food was amazing. The restuarant was already busy at 6pm and by the time we left at around 19.45 the queue was out the door. This shows how poplualr this restaurant is and how great the food and staff are. We'll be back, often.

This is our absolute favourite in Swansea! This place deserves much more recognition over the overpriced places you find in Swansea. The food is outstanding and I mean outstanding, the service is excellent and the prices are reasonable. We pick it for special occasions and for a impromptu date night - every time it’s fantastic!

Absolutely fabulous Japanese restaurant - voted favourite meal of the week by our teenagers. We enjoyed the bento boxes and side dishes. Takeaway service prompt and easy to order on the website. Delicious!

We actually went to the branch in Mumbles, Swansea. The place was bright and airy, the staff friendly and attentive and the food really excellent. This recently-established offshoot is an excellent addition to the area.

Came here for the first time with my husband after hearing good reviews. There is no car park for guests however parking down the road was only £2 for 2 hours. On arrival at the restaurant it was clean & we were seated promptly, My husband didn’t think he would really like the food but knew he liked chicken Katsu curry so ordered that. I ordered the YAKI NIKU BEEF BENTO box which contained beef in a teriyaki sauce. The beef was cooked perfectly & was so tender, I persuaded my husband to try a bit & he liked it so much he ordered the beef as a side dish. Everything in my bento box was cooked perfectly, good size portion too. My husband also loved his food, I think he has been converted. Staff are friendly & pleasant, food comes out quickly & the prices are fair too. We will be back.

This restaurant has moved to Mumbles. Great location. Great service and wonderful authentic food. New restaurant is clean and airy.

I ordered a takeaway from here on our impromptu stay in Swansea due the storm , and I strictly cannot eat gluten and dairy so I’m always nervous about ordering takeaways and expect there to be no options however I phoned the restaurant and they were very hot on gluten free, they told me to specify gluten free when ordering online and they would be able to make things with gluten free soya sauce. I ordered a few things including a miso soup and almost instantly they phoned me to inform me that the miso soup was not gluten free (very reassuring to know they were checking and knew) so I ordered something else instead with it , and delivery was fast and it was absolutely delicious. Shame we don’t live locally because I would definitely order again! Very happy with my meal.

The Owners "Frank and Grace" underpay and overwork their delivery drivers. They treat them like cattle and demonstrate no compassion or empathy when issues are raised. Construction has started in the dining area of the very small restaurant. An issue was raised regarding the potential of ASBESTOS EXPOSURE as the floor has been taken up revealing a mysterious rocky compound.Drilling has taken place in this unconfirmed substance, the council has been notified of the issue, and will hopefully test the floor to make sure that asbestos fibers were not released into the air. This may be too little too late as the restaurant yesterday 03/08/2020 was covered in dust and bits of rubble - they were allowing customers into the property and letting them wait.There should have been an R & D report for the possible asbestos and there is not one.Be cautious and remember that your pre-cooked food is being prepared in an environment such as this.Please do not forget the total disregard for your Health and Safety by the owners as there are violations everywhere.

We ordered online at 6PM and had a confirmation email of the order. I rang them at 8.05pm to see where the order was. The reply was we havent had the order but I told them we had an email confirmation of the order. They then said oh yes we can see the order after trying to find it for 5 to 10 mins. There was no apology on the phone and no explanation. The food arrived around 8.30pm and still no apology and no goodwill gesture.As nice as the food is this was poor service and saying sorry doesnt cost a penny.

Delicious food as always, but up until lockdown we've always eaten in, tonight we had an amazing takeaway. Sadly a huge amount of single use plastic. This evening I went to Nishimura to continue the ongoing mission to find the best Japanese restaurants wherever I happen to be. Why am I in Swansea? My daughter is swimming in a competition at the Wales National pool on Saturday and Sunday and sushi is her favourite (for now, at least). These days, when I ask what she would like to eat if it could be anything in the world, the answer is always sushi. The bar is set very high, we have visited Cafe Japan in Golders Green in London, and Shiki in Norwich, two places that are, in our opinion, the benchmark for Japanese food, so it needs to be good to get a rating. I called first at 6pm to try and book a table. The man said that 7pm was not possible could we do 8 instead, I said that was too late how about in 10 minutes time? He told me that if we came now it would be ok, so we hurried along. The reviews I read said that the place was small but extremely worth waiting for, the first part was no exaggeration. The place is the size of a standard shop, half is taken up with a serving counter and the other side contains one long trestle table with benches along both sides. Each diner is permitted just enough space to eat, the result is a compact but workable solution to the space issue. While we were eating, my daughter mentioned how quiet the place was, and it was then that I noticed. The clientele were murmuring quietly to their companions across the table, there was no rowdy or loud talk or laughter. The conversations that I could overhear were mostly about how good the food was, but I couldn't hear a lot. As we were hungry, and as we are quite greedy too we ordered a lot including some of our favourites. All in the interests of comparison of course. We ordered miso soup, tempura oysters, mixed sashimi, mixed nigiri, agedashi tofu, sunomono, and for a main course I had unagi don, eel on rice, and my daughter had chicken teriyaki don. Everything was delicious, the fish tasted fresh and was served beautifully with a decorative bonsai-type tree on the tray. My unagi was one of the high points of the meal, the eel flavour and the sauce seeped into the rice and gave it a delicious taste and consistency, perfect for eating with chopsticks. On the rare occasions when my daughter's mouth wasn't full of food she declared it to be delicious, not quite Shiki, but excellent nonetheless. That may sound like damning with faint praise but you would have to have eaten at Shiki to know that for her to mention anywhere in the same sentence as Shiki is to raise it to a revered place.

Tiny place but worth waiting for if there isn’t a space as soon as you arrive! The choice was really good and we really enjoyed everything we ordered. Loved the teriyaki salmon, can’t wait to go back and try a bento box.

Took my 4yo daughter for a meal and both had the Ika and Tako Nagiri with Unagi Chahan. Food was excellent and service was fab. One draw back is it can be cold by the door. But it’s worth it for the food.

We visited last night, had miso soup to start with prawns and spicy grab sushi. Excellently presented and beautiful taste. For mains I had the Bento box which again was cooked to perfection. My partner had the chicken Katsu Nabe which was again delightful. Will definitely return

First time here and was really impressed. Restaurant very informal with long bench seating arranged down the one side ebcouraging a communal dining experience which really worked. I ordered spring rolls to start, then moved on to Salmon Teriyaki Ramen which was absolutely stunning. My friend and I enjoyed the food so much that we ordered an 8 piece sushi dish entitled Rainbow. Again, mind blown! Service impeccable, cheerful and efficient. Good range of imported beer and lager.Highly recommended, looking forward to working my way through the menu.

Wonderful atmosphere but very limited in restaurant numbers. Food first class. Even if you book you are hostage to the table occupants. Highly recommended to wait.

Regular visitor with my 11 year old, who loves the food here. Always really friendly and quick. Never had any cause for complaint.

The service was brilliant! Such friendly staff, ordered my takeaway and was given a drink whilst I waited. Even though the place was busy I didn’t have to wait long at all. Quality food, had a mixture of different things and everything was very tasty.

I won't lie the food is really good.

They have good food but honestly I have been here multiple times and they sincerely need to get better service. I booked for 5 people in advance and when I arrived for my booking, I saw them take a group of 4 right before us (no booking) and told us it was a 20 minute wait. Time before this, it took them 15-20 minutes to come take our drinks order.

Ended up at this place without planning and we were not disappointed. Everything we tried was delicious!

Popped in for a late evening meal with my girlfriend for the first time this evening. Had a selection of tuna and salmon rolls to start off which were really tasty and fresh. Then had the yaki soba and teriyaki beef with some gyoza on the side. Everything was absolutely bang on the money, the food was amazing and although you are seated in close proximity to others the atmosphere was great and really easy going. Staff are also really helpful and attentive. Would 100% recommend whether its for a quick stop off lunch or evening meal.

Visited August 2019, first ever visit we were greeted with one long bench akin to something that would resemble Hogwarts. This, from what I can gather is the restaurant. It is comical the amount of space you have and depending on how big your fellow dinners are next to you. Difficult to relax and you are literally sat next to strangers. There is little room to get in or out of the bench. Food took a while to come out and then didn’t arrive at the same time. That said the food we ordered was delicious. This restaurant operates as a takeaway also. I would probably recommend this, as a dining experience, I wouldn’t bother.

Myself and my family came out for my birthday meal the food was excellent and was eaten extremely quickly the atmosphere was nothing but joyous and friendly as if everyone knew everyone. I highly recommend coming here for an enjoyable night out.

The noodle dishes are very nice. The tempura disappointed me as it was quite heavy. Very good choice of fish and seafood.

Had lunch yesterday with a friend. Seating is 1 long wooden table with benches. Service was very friendly although a bit slow as our order was the only one being prepared at the time. Fish was very fresh and delicious. I only wish they had a 6 or 8 piece role with Unagi. Would recommended.

My wife and I absolutely love Nishimura, and we have never had a bad meal here.

Can’t really comment on the food as I ordered it it 2 hours ago ( all bar 5 mins) and it still hasn’t arrived. Have phoned twice to be told “30 mins” that was an hour ago and “20 mins” that was 30 mins ago!

I love Japanese food. This place is one of the few places that offer Japanese food in Swansea. But it is the best without doubt.

We wanted some Japanese food for a change found this place right out of town. The restaurant looks like a takeaway but DO NOT be put off by this. We were sceptical at first but were proved wrong this place is a hidden gem. We had tempura prawns to start and they were amazing and veggie spring rolls. We had a vegan bento box and a katsu chicken bento both were really good. We did struggle with how to eat the soup that came with the bento’s but persevered and managed. All in all an excellent dinning experience.

Had a wonderful lunch today. All 4 of us had a bento box of some kind. We all thoroughly enjoyed it and all components were cooked to perfection. Very tasty and we are already looking forward to going back soon.

Went for lunch and had very good agedashi tofu but the chirashi don was disappointing with plastic ‘leaf’ and crab stick. Fish was a bit too wet and salmon very fatty so cheap. So ok with good service but certainly not authentic..

We visited the restaurant on a Saturday evening with our two children. We were seated on a long table, which the children found very interesting. Extremely friendly staff, food was served promptly (but not too quick). Ordered small portions for children, which was no problem at all. We used to go to Cardiff to Wagamama, but now we can stay happily in Swansea, as we would rate Nishimura better than Wagamama! Well done!

Although this sushi and noodle bar has been open for four years we have only just discovered it! What a discovery. Wide choice of foods, friendly and relaxed atmosphere, and excellent service. Rightly popular with locals and visitors from further field. Very strongly recommended. Closed Tuesdays and Fridays at present.

Popped in here on the off chance with the girlfriend. Really surprised at the good sushi and the noodles that we ordered. The service was excellent and very quick, a great taste of the east. 4 *s because it's quite a small unit and the seating is one long bench, perhaps a bit cramped, so maybe not the place for a romantic dinner.
