Number 5 Restaurant in Craven

Overall we enjoyed our Sunday lunch . All of the starters were totally delicious as were the main course of beef which was cooked to pink perfection. The roast potatoes were lovely and crispy and fluffy inside . On this visit we felt the veg selection was slightly on the stingy side on both choice and the amount we were served . The cauliflower cheese was lovely and the carrots were also tasty but they did appear to be slightly over cooked as there wasn’t much bite to them . The gravy was hot & tasty however the little jugs that it was served in were far too hot to touch so whilst they were aesthetically pleasing their design was totally impractical because they didn’t have a handle to pick them up so we had to wait for the gravy and the jug to cool down until we could pour it on our dinner . The Mille Feuille desserts with raspberry sorbet were outstanding but the chocolate mousse was a disappointment, it just tasted very sugary and very sweet with an odd gritty texture and weirdly it didn’t really taste of chocolate. Tbh on this particular visit we felt the dessert menu was quite poor with no warm dessert option at all . With it being Autumn it would have been nice to have a warm pudding on offer. The food is always delicious at Grassington House but on this recent visit we felt the ambience of the restaurant wasn’t as good as previously . This was definitely down to having to contend with a very noisy large party eating in the main dining room who got louder and louder as they drank more cocktails . They were so loud at times it made it difficult to have a conversation at our table as we couldn’t hear each other, also it was difficult to hear what the waiting staff were saying . We would recommend this restaurant in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales because the food is of high quality and you can tell the chef really takes pride in his work . Hopefully the noisy vibe we had to experience on our latest visit was a ‘one off’ because normally the atmosphere is chilled and relaxed.

Grassington House Hotel Restaurant is one of our favourite places to eat. Food is always cooked to perfection, even our well done fillet steaks were tender and moist. The whole team looked after us extremely well and nothing was too much trouble. We will return and would recommend anyone to visit.

A friend and I stayed here last month on a Sunday. We were checked in promptly by a very friendly lady. I stayed in Number 11, my friends room was named The White Room. Both were stunningly appointed and ideal for us as solo guests. We were dining with friends so enjoyed some drinks in the sun on the beautiful terrace prior to dinner. The waiter kindly came outside to take our orders which was greatly appreciated as we don’t often get the chance to enjoy an evening with weather like that up north! The food was exceptional. My fillet steak was cooked to perfection and the wine I was recommended by the manager paired perfectly. My friend had the ‘rag pudding’ a traditional dish I was told by the staff from across the Lancashire/Yorkshire border in Oldham where one of the owners hails from. Again, outstanding I was told. I have stayed here a couple of times over the last 10 years and it gets better and better each time. Can’t wait to visit the beautiful village of Grassington again and hopefully this fantastic hotel will have room for us. Highly recommended

Had a wonderful meal with friends at Grassington House as part of our 35th wedding anniversary celebrations. The food was incredible and the service outstanding. Excellent choice of food and drinks to suit all tastes. It was our first visit but we will definitely be back again.

Lovely restaurant however the Owner’s wife is extremely rude to non locals and made me personally feel very unwelcome. She greeted local people and actually waved us off. The food was very good and there was another “visiting” couple near us that she also ignored. She took jackets and brought drinks to the locals. I wish we had picked a different place just because of her.

Best Sunday Lunch and value for years. Sue and front of house manager and staff great. We travelled from Ilkley today we normally come on a Wednesday but this was a treat. Lovely evening meal with my friend, with food of great quality which was well cooked and presented to show its best. Service was spot on; attentive and friendly but not intrusive. When we arrived we felt very welcome, and shown to our table immediately. We were slow to choose our meal (too much talking) but this was ok and we did not have to rush. Did I say the food was great? Well, it is worth repeating, because it is! All together we had the best evening, in a comfortable and relaxed environment, with, of course, wonderful food!

We stayed here for 2 nights What a lovely clean hotel Staff and owner very polite and professional. The room was comfortable. The restaurant is amazing we enjoyed our breakfast and our evening meals were outstanding. So relaxing we must come back soon.

I live in the village and come a lot with friends for a light lunch. Today I came with a friend for a Sunday roast birthday celebration. As usual, everything was faultless. Everyone is always made to feel special here, and it indeed is a special place. The service is always first class, as is the food. We are so privileged to have this wonderful restaurant in the centre of our beautiful village. The staff are always so friendly with their regular customers, while all the time remaining the professionals they are.

Restaurant review. Great food. Good service. Nice space. Belly pork and battered anchovy starters were very good. Surf and turf main (with elegant additional bells & whistles) was excellent. Wine choices ok but perhaps a little pricey if being picky. We had a good evening and would return, if revisiting Grassington (which we probably will, as it's a lovely place).

From the moment you walk in the door you feel transported to a very special place, full of positive atmosphere and friendly faces. Michael our waiter was absolutely fabulous….all the staff were. Nothing is too much and it’s always the little personal touches that go a long way. This place needs a Michelin star please!!!!!

I was certain to book a slot for dinner as we were dining on a Sunday and I wanted to guarantee a place to have a meal. I ordered the Mushroom Lentil Wellington which was different than what I had expected, but delicious nonetheless. I also treated myself to the Licorice Ice Cream, which was brilliant, and ordered a cappuccino which was served along with a beautiful hand made chocolate. Certainly more than I had expected! We sat in the lovely glass enclosed room, which offered a view of the quaint center of the village. I felt a bit under dressed compared to those at tables around me, as the women were wearing church appropriate apparel and I was dressed more casual. This was actually the first experience on our nearly 2 week trip where I was dressed down in comparison to others in the restaurant. It did not affect the service or my meal, but I thought it was worth mentioning for future travelers.

The menu here had a lot of appeal and we were not disappointed. We were on a walking holiday and hungry and the meal sizes were good. I had the asparagus and artichoke tart and it was light and tasty and very well presented. For main I had the surf and turf with dauphinois potatoes. Very well cooked and presented. Service was good and we all enjoyed the meal. The only disappointment was the cheese slate which really lacked polish. The cheese was great but there were hardly any sides. Not terrible not to standard of rest of meal.

It’s a while since we’ve been to Grassington House because of Covid and while it’s always good, lunch this Sunday was excellent. The staff were attentive and personable. Our starter of smoked haddock in a superb sauce was so good. Then perfectly cooked beef with a selection of vegetables. All perfectly done and presented. The roast beef was the best I’ve eaten anywhere, ever. I’m so sorry Grassington House and other businesses are having to face a second lockdown. Good luck

What an amazing meal we had! The food was absolutely delicious, the service was efficient and friendly and we can't wait to go back - so much so we have booked our next meal. The food was cooked to perfection - a real credit to the kitchen team. We ate in the bar and the atmosphere was relaxing. For quality and value this must be the best restaurant in the area.

We were extremely impressed with our Friday evening dinner, which was most welcome after a 9 mile hike in wet and windy weather! The fish platter was very good, as were the tempura king prawns although they were rather lacking tempura batter! Our main courses of lamb and pheasant were cooked to perfection and were most enjoyable. Having enjoyed a great nights' sleep in one of their rooms - breakfast was just as superb. Top quality bacon and sausages - and perfectly cooked soft poached eggs. Highly recommended.

I must leave a review to express how much we enjoyed our dinner last Sunday evening. It was certainly the best meal we have had this year!What a treat to experience such perfect food, beautifully presented. The tasting starter plate presented on slate, was joy in every individual mouthful of scallop, chicken liver pate, smoked salmon, tiger prawns, spring rolls, hummus and olives. Following that we then enjoyed a beautiful piece of hake with tempura oyster and broad beans, and also a delicious partridge wellington with beetroot. Dessert of chocolate fondant with chocolate and orange marjolaine and orange ice cream was possibly the most perfect end to any meal. The restaurant seems to be managing with the Covid restrictions and we felt safe and well spaced out from other tables. Can highly recommend.

We had the most delicious dinner in the pod - we felt we were in a space ship! Our little grandson was enchanted, as were we. Magical. A member of staff was dedicated to us for the evening and the service was superb. Guests can adjust fresh air and heating for their own comfort. A 5* experience all round. (As we did not stay in the hotel so have not given ratings for questions related to this.)

We hadn't planned or booked a table, we just arrived in Grassington and turned up ad hoc. We have now booked for two meals in thd restaurant and two nights in the hotel for November 2020. I think this shows how very we were with today's experience. We ordered drinks, which arrived very quickly, a goos strong coffe and a very 'appley' cider, very tasty. We then ordered two lots of fish and chips. We were very hungry and to be fair, we weren't expecting much more than a nice hot meal. We were, very happily surprised. Initially we were seeved two, warm and fresh homemade (I think) bread rolls. One wholemeal and one cheese and tomato. Very welcome. The main course was delicious. Lovely minted, mushy peas, with triple cooked chips and haddock in the lighest ever batter. I often come away from eating fish and chips feeling full but uncomfortable from stodgy batter. Not today! The members of staff who attended the table were great. The tall, dark and fiendly waiter was a pleasure to speak to. So helpful and polite. A pleasure to meet. I wish I'd had the gumption to ask his name to pass our praises on to the owner. Anyway, based on the experience we've booked a two night stay and we are so looking forward to our next visit. We had a really tasty meal, with the best slow cooked beef I’ve ever eaten. The homemade black pudding (served with chicken) was delicious and who’d have thought Liquorice Ice Cream would be such a winner! The staff were excellent, friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. Myself and my wife visited Grassington house for Sunday lunch and we were both blown away by the quality and value for money on offer in such a lovely park of England. From start to finish everything was excellent. Special mention for the lovely 14 hour slow cooked rump of beef that was stunningly tender. We will be back.
