Incredible tasty, explosion of flavours. Never though to find such a good restaurant in there

The rose-red slices of raw beef fillet are cut expertly thin, almost translucent, and streaked with fat. Yet this carpaccio is so soft, so melty, so full of feels in the mouth, I come perilously close to abandoning my principles. It’s drizzled with taleggio cheese fondue, lighter and less ripe than hoped for, closer to a mild cream. Dessert is a perfect tiramisu, all unending (and unfinishable) ruffles of cream and savoiardi soaked in booze.

Give This Restaurant a Michelin Star! Osteria is undoubtedly one of my favourite restaurants I've ever eaten at. As someone who enjoys everything from fine dining to a Maccies; Osteria just hits on every point. The Food: I had a duck terrine followed by the beef cheeks and it was one of the most flavourful and delicious meals I've ever had, hands down. Great care has been taken with portion size and presentation and everything feels like it has its place. The Service: The family run restaurant is attentive and friendly. You are welcomed in and given a five star service from start to finish with the staff taking their time to talk to you when you wish and leave you if you are busy talking. The service is quick but you will never feel rushed and the attention to the layout of the table is important to the staff. My partner spilled some wine and the staff took it upon themselves to clean up and cover the wine stain which was such a nice note and handled in a no hassle and respectful manner. Atmosphere: The atmosphere is homely and despite being a small space, there is plenty of room between tables. We were certainly the youngest people at the restaurant by at least a decade and treated with the same level as respect as anyone our senior. All in all, this is the second time I have been to Osteria and the second time I have been wowed. North Berwick is now somewhere I would come to SPECIFICALLY to visit Osteria and when you go you will see why. Please visit this outstanding establishment and show the staff your love. This is a restaurant that you will talk with your friends, family, work colleagues etc. for years to come. I certainly do and will continue to rave about my experience here.

Just had the best dining experience ever! If you look at the set menu price first - don’t! The food is the best I have ever had - every course amazing! The service made me feel like a celeb & the ambiance was so relaxed. The first thing we do when we’ve booked accommodation for nd t year is book Osteria. Truly the best overall dining experience

Excellent restaurant with amazing and delicious food. If you want to try some really good fine Italian cuisine, that goes beyond the typical pizza and pasta, then you have to try this place. Also, the staff are extremely friendly, 100% recommended!

Lovely place. Fantastic staff. However for some reason my food wasn’t so great, however the rest of my parties was excellent. And the wine list was superb. My thoughts: avoid the seafood pasta starter - mine was like rubber. And ‘fish of the day’ was like a dry breaded Captain Birdseye job. I may have been unlucky on the night. However I had massive food envy as the other 7 in the party had excellent food. Maybe just bad choices on my part. And would not stop me trying again.

Absolutely fantastic food in a small and friendly restaurant. Every course was impeccably presented and tasted like God him/her self had prepared them, and then laced them with goodness that can only be achieved by grinding unicorn horn and sprinkling it over the top. My only complaint is that I was unable to stop myself from eating and am therefore slightly bloated today. Fully deserving of the vast array of awards it's won, and definitely worth splashing out on.

A most wonderful dining experience. Angelo and his son Stefano are so helpful, knowledgeable and charming to all of the customers. The food is out of this world, I have never experienced such beautifully presented and prepared culinary delights. The pannecotta was the best I had ever tasted. We have booked a table for when we return to Scotland before we left the restaurant. Thank you, from Debbie and Gary.

Me and the good lady were in osteria on the 18th June Michelin * restaurant and it was that pricey but lovely our mains were very good indeed the staff were very curtious at all times my stuffed chicken breast with parmesan and pancetta was delicious and my wifes pasta dish also was fab ..

Osteria is a jewel in the crown of Scottish restaurants, I have been going for 15 years and never been disappointed. Number one is the welcome and service you receive at Osteria it is like meeting old friends. This is a family run restaurant at it's best, it just oozes quality and Angelo and his son are host of the highest order and the hidden jem is in the kitchen.

Osteria is centrally located in North Berwick. We were introduced to the restaurant by friends and were there for lunch. Firstly, Covid precautions were strong and made us very comfortable. Staff were very friendly and clearly this is a popular place for locals. The menu is fixed price with either a two or three course option, with various options for each course; we all selected three courses. My wife had soup of the day (carrot and coriander) while I had a pasta with mushroom starter; both were very tasty. For the second course we both had fish of the day which was a medley of halibut, seabass, shrimp and scallop accompanied by mixed vegetables (sautéed potatoes, cauliflower and manges touts) while the fish portions were not overly large they were sufficient and very fresh. For dessert my wife had amaretto parfait with mango coulis while I had a mille feuille with mixed berry coulis. Both were delicious. Overall a great experience with good value for money.

Originally discounted Italian restaurants to pre-book for a short break in North Berwick, as husband has to limit gluten intake, so pizza and pasta not a good idea. Luckily we looked at the menu of Osteria which is very close to where we stayed. We booked straight away and were so pleased we did. Fantastic service, tasty food, lots of choices of things we like. Not a pizza in sight.

I had wanted to visit Osteria for a long time and it did not disappoint ! Top class service and food. Lovely white starched tablecloths and napkins but friendly with it.One of the best meals I’ve had this years. Well worth the cost. Would love to go back. The homemade bread is SOOO good. The petit fours are delicious. The limoncello is served ice cold. Well worth the calories

Was great to get back to Osteria again, post lockdown. All dishes are consistently high quality, great choice of wines and fantastic service. Their seafood dishes are my favourite. Well done in making this small restaurant Covid safe.

Clearly best restaurant in NB for a nice meal- we've lived here for a year now and tried them all. We were here as a group of 4 for the lunch menu a couple of weeks ago. Excellent service, great food & wine. Will definitely return.

We had a very nice meal, we ordered from the set menu, we had asparagus risotto followed by trout. Both were very tasty. The service was excellent.

Wonderful lunch with friends after a boat trip. We had seen dolphins and thought that would be the highlight of the day by a long way, but the food here ran it very close and the excellence of the wine list made it a tie.We live a bit too far away for this to be a regular haunt but we will definitely find a reason to come back.Excellent service and well thought through covid safety measures that weren't intrusive but made us feel safe.

Really good atmosphere, despite the "Covid-19" precautions (not too intrusive.) Food perfectly cooked and presented, interesting menu and just the right sized very tasty portions to tempt all three courses. Service perfectly pitched - friendly and professional (with spare reading glasses for those of us who forgot our own!)Good and reasonably-priced wine list.

Excellent restaurant. Food was superb. We had goat's cheese souffle and salmon tartare to start, mixed seafood platter and steak for mains. All of it was beautifully cooked. Staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. As it was so busy (always a good sign) we could only get a late-ish booking, but we called in at lunchtime to check if there was anything earlier available. We then had one call offering us an earlier time, and another call when our table was available. Great service before we'd even arrived. Restaurant itself is a bustling place with a great atmosphere, even on a Wednesday night. Thoroughly recommend Osteria and we will definitely be back.

On a weekend escape staycation to North Berwick we went looking for somewhere to eat and discovered a real diamond in Osteria.In order to comply with social distancing requirements management have introduced clear screens between tables that are very effective whilst maintaining the cosy ambiance of the restaurant.The staff were very attentive and looked after us very well throughout our visit but special praise is reserved for the quality of the food. Every plate was presented beautifully and tasted even better. Flavours were perfectly balanced and portion sizes were perfect to ensure that, although we cleared every plate, we left feeling comfortable.Overall this experience was excellent value for money and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend a visit. We will definitely return.

Wow, wow and wow - what a little gem! We are on a family holiday and managed a night out as the kids stayed with grandad for our treat! And what a delight to find and be able to eat at this high end Italian restaurant. The team were fantastic, nothing was too much trouble .... the wine (house red) was fantastic ... the main event, 3 courses of the best Italian food I and my wife have ever had (5 if you include the ouderve and coffee!). If you have the chance ring and book - you will not be disappointed

Dined here with my partner and his parents this week and it did not disappoint! The restaurant was spaced out with partitions which felt very safe and clean, creating a relaxing experience! The food and service was incredible! The highlight for me was the pistachio pesto pasta, but between us we had a range of fish and meat dishes and everyone loved it all! The service was perfect: attentive but not over bearing. Not once was my wine or water glass empty! Would definitely recommend and we will be back!

Our first post lockdown lunch and as usual the standard of the food and service was excellent. Cannot recommend it highly enough. So glad it has FE-opened.

Last managed to go in March so it was good to get back to some normality by visiting Osteria for dinner on one night and again a couple of days later for lunch. As usual a lovely dining experience. Will be a regular for us while we are in North Berwick and thoroughly recommended.

Been abroad for a few months and when we returned we managed to visit Osteria twice in one week before the lockdown! As usual Angelo and his team were great and very friendly. Had the early evening menu on both occasions and on both visits the food was super. Hopefully he'll be able to re-open in the next few months so we can have some more of the wonderful food!

This is a gem of a restaurant, classy and excellent quality of food and the service is outstanding. Having lived in Italy for 22 years this in my view is the best Italian restaurant outside of Italy!

Fantastic home made food. We had the pre theatre menu. Squid to start, chicken stuffed with mozzarella main and chocolate tart to finish. All perfect. No surprise that this restaurant wins awards. It was £46 for the 2 of us.

My wife and I paid our third visit to Osteria while holidaying in nearby Dunbar to enjoy concerts and recitals during the Lammermuir Festival, and coastal walks and visits. Our previous experiences of the restaurant meant that we looked forward to returning with very great pleasure.There’s no question Osteria, which opened in 2007, merits making a special trip. It was named Best Restaurant in the 2018 and 2017 Scottish Italian Awards, Best Italian Restaurant (under 50 seats) in the 2015 awards, at the same time winning Best Chef, and Best Wine Selection in 2017. STYLE, AMBIENCE AND SERVICEThis time we had booked in for lunch. When we arrived at 1.15 pm the restaurant, which takes 32 covers, was full apart from our places. However the tables, wearing their smart white on red tablecloths, are well placed to avoid any sense of over-crowding. The chairs are very comfortable; the lighting is subtle and creates a sense of space. Angelo Cocchia, the wonderful owner and front of house, appeared to recognise us when we entered – but then doing that is one of the skills of a great front of house! He’s incredible easy to talk with, and in fact since we were the last to arrive and last to leave, we enjoyed a lovely chat after the meal, discussing different wines and learning about his long-term retiral plans back in Italy, where he is developing a special home in Campania.He really is a master of hospitality – the epitome of relaxed kindness and enthusiasm with all the guests. The many visitors to Osteria range from the international – touring American golfers, Italian vineyard owners – to the local, many of whom Angelo knows by name; one of them popped in during the meal just to book a table for the following week.The other server on lunch duty was Stefano, very smart yet approachable and kindly, and like Angelo very knowledgeable about wines. He particularly recommended the Orvieto Campogrande Santa Christina from the Orvieto appellation, which I’d been wowed by a year ago and savoured again this time (2 glasses). It has a perfect balance, a particularly long finish, and fascinating complexity.COOKING AND FOODThe lunch menu is small, which is always a good indicator of careful cooking: 4 primi (starters), 4 secondi (mains), and 2 dolci (desserts). Three courses cost £21; the wine was generously charged at £6.75 a glass.Angelo told us afterwards that his daughter Daniela is no longer head chef (she it was who won the “best in Scotland” award in 2015), though she still comes in to help out as much as possible. The head chef is now her husband Daniele, who seems to be just as talented.We started with Carpaccio di Manzo – thin slices of beef fillet drizzled with a warm Taleggio fondue – and the Zuppa del giorno (soup of the day), Minestrone. I raved about a venison carpaccio I ate here last year, and this was as finely cut and melt-in-the-mouth. My wife would normally expect minestrone to be a bit dull, but we trusted Angelo’s recommendation and this was terrific, with large, evenly cut pieces of vegetable full of flavour in a rich broth.For mains we chose Scallopine di Maiale – Pork escalopes with fontina in a wild mushroom sauce – and Filetto di Salmone – salmon fillet in a dill sauce. Both came with seasonal vegetables: fine beans, cauliflower and potato. The cooking of the flesh on both dishes was very finely judged, delightfully moist and tender, the vegetables just soft enough and sensitively seasoned.Our desserts were Espresso Crème Brûlée with Amaretti biscuits, and Homemade Lemon Cheesecake. Both were superbly light, and not overly sweet.OVERALLI mentioned to Angelo that in our experience Osteria could easily be considered for a Michelin star – it combines notable fine dining with a relaxed ‘family’ feel, and is a restaurant to go out of your way for. Interestingly he said he wouldn’t want the pressure, and the Scottish Italian Awards are clearly enough for him; he has such visible joy and contentment in his restaurant. What else can I give but 5 stars?

My wife and I visited the restaurant with some friends on Friday. Our booking was for 1pm and we eventually left at/around 5pm after a large amount of fizz, white and red wine. Osteria has become a firm favourite, the food is high quality and excellent value. Angelo and his team do an outstanding job in providing expert, helpful and friendly service. Already looking forward to our next visit.

We are locals but honestly whenever we visit, be it a celebration, to entertain friends or sometimes just to treat ourselves, we always leave saying “wow, it’s just so good isn’t it”. The casual, friendly but totally professional service, the food- delicious, new dishes and old favourites, the knowledge of the Italian wines from the family’s home area, never fails to select wines for us, what more can I say, we in North Berwick are just so lucky to have this restaurant on our doorstep.

This venue has to be one of the best dining experiences north of the border, easily topping establishments further up the pecking order, some even with Michelin StarsHaving eaten here several times over recent years. I am genuinely impressed with the quality and unobtrusive service which has gradually grown from being merely first class to that of sustained and consistent excellence. A wonderful fine dining venue. If your occasion isn't special then try it anyway, your visit will certainly become special before you leave. Both food and wine menu's to satisfy the expectations of the most fastidious diner.. We booked a table for four last night, everything from the very tasty ' amuse boosh ' at the start to the beautifully presented finale was simply so good, I felt the need to write these lines in praise of a restaurant I feel proud to have in the community. I would simply ask. Why no Michelin Star ?.

Fantastic restaurant in North Berwick. As soon as we arrived the staff appeared to genuinely care about us and settled us at our table. The excellent service continued all evening but was never at any point intrusive. The food was always well presented and tasted delicious. The final bill represented very good value for food and service of this quality.
