Amazing food, terrific service, really pleased to show a visitor from a capital city (Edinburgh) what our not so hidden gems can do. The young lads running the tables for us were attentive and thorough and the food was great. New sticky lamb starter was great and the dessert cider with cheese just a revelation. A lesson to other restaurants in Herefordshire OPEN ON A MONDAY !

Great service and attention to detail. Not an extensive menu, but the food we had was wonderful, so many flavours and textures. All locally sourced., all served piping hot. Nice bar area with seating, a good selection of drinks for before or after dinner. Although the food came quite quickly we were not rushed at all. Nice touch of a little chocolate brownie with a candle for my husband’s birthday.

Abbiamo scelto questo albergo perché vicino alla casa di amici, e perché ha un ristorante. Appena arrivati George ci ha gentilmente aiutati a trasportare il bagaglio nel nostro alloggio: una sorta di "glamping" immerso nel verde, con una stanza piccola e accogliente, letto molto confortevole e doccia fantastica. La cena, nei locali del vecchio pub, è stata eccellente. Cucina creativa ed estremamente accurata, la migliore in un mese di viaggio in UK. Il ristorante meriterebbe una stella Michelin. Complimenti a tutto lo staff. Dopo cena, fate una passeggiata in cima alla collina se volete vedere decine di conigli selvatici. Il mattino seguente abbiamo avuto il miglior breakfast di tutto il Regno Unito Un consiglio: fatevi spiegare come accendere il riscaldamento e restate almeno due notti.

This was a Sharing menu, beautifully presented and served. Preferred this selection of food to the usual more 'game-based' options usually available in the winter months. All items were of course up to the usual standard of cooking, never disappointed here, never leave hungry!

2 nights at this lovely place with hard-working and cheerful staff, delicious food and a comfy room. Breakfast in our room on the 2nd day was a treat. Thank you!

Nice surroundings, but pretentious in that it was trying to be a sort of fine dining venue. Service was good, but food not so good.

A lovely lunch here whilst visiting the area. Booking a table easy online or over the phone; staff very friendly and attentive on arrival. A drink in the bar before being seated passed the time when we arrived a little early! Dog friendly table provided and made to feel very welcome. Food was excellent and reasonably priced. We stayed in The Riverside, in The Stable suite, which was amazing. The atmosphere in the bar was great, the dinner was absolutely delicious as was the breakfast. All staff were fantastic, particularly the gentleman behind the bar who also served food. Everything was perfect, nothing needs to be improved. We will definitely visit again

Warm, cosy and welcoming environment, perfect for this stormy evening. I’m from Hereford and I must say this is the best food I’ve had in the shire for some time! The trio of beef was perfectly served! Tasty and full of delight! Looking at the dessert menu I became intrigued by the Stilton ice cream, so was offered a taster/canapé size to try!! Unbelievable!!! Definitely one to try and not to be frowned at!! Very clever menu!! I could not offer any fault from our visit today! We will most certainly be visiting again!!

This was the second year that we held our three couple Christmas Re-Union at The Riverside because we enjoyed our 2022 visit so much. Travelling from different parts of England & Wales we were looking forward very much to returning for our two night stay. George looked after us from the moment we set foot inside to the moment we left, he could not have been any more helpful, friendly, accommodating, charming and above all he was intent on making our visit memorable.....which it was. Thank you! The food at breakfast and dinner was exceptional. The beer was good and the wine flowed. George's team complimented his service perfectly and we were well looked after. Compliments to the chef and the service team. I am sure we will see you again George. Take care and have a great Christmas and New Year.

Childless for a few hours so booked in for a cheeky Sunday lunch. Expectations blown away, one of the best Sunday lunches that I have ever had. George and the team made us feel really welcome. Amazing food, extensive wine list, beautiful location and relaxed ambience. Will definitely be coming back for more.

A family member booked the Riverside for an impromptu pre-Christmas lunchtime meal for 8. Although I'd eaten at the Riverside many years ago, I suggested we meet there given the positive reviews the place had received over the last 12 months or so. In summary, I thought it was good but I wasn't 'blown away'. Everybody enjoyed their meals; the starters were OK and the mains were good (which ranged from open steak sandwich to duck and fish). Everything was hot and very well presented and the service was prompt. One diner thought the menu was a bit limited. Although I can see why it's there, for me I'd ditch the 'lite bites' and put a proper steak on the menu. Pricewise, it worked out at c. £40 per head including drinks (but no dessert). Would I come again? Probably.

Our Ludlow walking group did a 6 mile walk starting and finishing for lunch at the Riverside. The steak sandwich was just what I needed after the walk. It was perfect. The staff were very welcoming and had laid out a room for us walkers. Would definitely go again - the food was excellent.

Lovely welcoming dog friendly pub. Great selection of beverages and food on the menu. Food is always utterly spectacular . The chicken was delicious at lunchtime, especially the side of red cabbage. Service is always top notch here.

The place itself is located in a quiet countryside location, next to a slow running river, it's a black and white building with lots of character. There's plenty of free parking and there are two places to choose to sit outside, you've either got the tables right on the river bank or you can opt to sit in the country garden, both are lovely places to sit, however food is not served on the river bank tables. The bar inside is quite small and there didn't appear to be any music playing on this visit so if there's another table sitting right next to you it can be a little awkward. The place has lots of character and it's in a beautiful location, I note that it has rosettes and have dined and continue to dine in plenty of places with similar awards, so feel I'm in a reasonable position to comment. The steak sandwich (open) was extremely tasty, lean steak, cooked perfectly with chips that were again cooked beautifully and tasted like proper chips should be like. However, I couldn't help noticing that the portion sizes were different from a previous visit. The chips fluctuate between a reasonable size and half the portion size and also the sandwich and toppings were half as much again (see photo). As a customer you feel short changed because if you enjoyed something so much the first time but then the second time you order the same thing and it comes out noticeably smaller you feel disappointed. I would have thought as a kitchen everything should leave the pass exactly the same standard, at present it doesn't here which is a shame. Have tried the Sunday lunch here also and was very disappointed in that, what's the purpose of cauliflower puree? I don't want a sauce of it, I want cauliflower on the plate. It's important to note, this place does not have any soft drinks on draught, I find this absolutely astonishing, they only offer mixer bottles which makes drinking soft drinks more expensive than drinking alcohol here. It's not exactly encouraging the drivers/non drinkers who can't drink alcohol. What do people then do who like a lager top, white wine spritz, shandy, jack daniels and coke, people are paying fortunes unnecessarily. All I can say on this is, they can't sell that much cola or lemonade as they would have it on draught. Last but not least the £1:50 green community donation that you automatically add to everyone's bill, if you care so much about the communities in Herefordshire you give them your money but don't make a decision on your customers behalf and think that they want to give away money themselves. I was not given a bill, therefore I didn't know that the £1:50 was added to my bill until after I had paid, I was not asked, I was given no option. I appreciate it says on the footnote of your menu but not everyone views the menu. Don't you think people pay enough for your food as it is without being shamed into asking for the £1:50 to be removed on every visit. I detest where places add discretionary charges but then ask that you ask to remove them.

Living just down the road it was high time to try out this local place again. Not been here for a few years so interested to see how the place has changed. I must say we weren't dissapointed. From the moment we walked in I could tell these people knew how to run a restaurant. We were shown straighjt to our table and given menus and offered a drink as well as water. The menue was limited, but interesting. The wine by the glass was excellent. We both had the duck, which was cooked to perfection. The service was attentive without being overbearing. I never felt I had to look for attention. The timing of the staff was spot on. The puddings were also superb. Finally, the coffee, which can sometimes let the side down was very good. It's not cheap, and if I was being picky, I would have liked a little more choice , but the food and service was top drawer so, if you're looking for a great meal, and don't mind splashing out a bit, you would have to go a long way to better The Riverside.

A wonderful night at The Riverside Inn - it is such a brilliant place for a group get together - really friendly great service (thank you George especially), yummy yummy food, super beds, delicious drinks and then the beautiful Mortimer trail walking / refreshing river swims from the doorstep! So my sister got married here this month and I was so happy she did. The staff were excellent the food was superb and the accommodation was spot on. I want to also pick out George who oversaw the day and night with personable professional efficiency. Would recommend a stay or an event here. We will be back. 10/10

We managed to book a table on a day when a wedding party was also dining - 40 for lunch followed by 120 for the evening! But not a problem our lunch service which was efficient and friendly. The food choice was good and the food was well cooked and presented really well. We opted for the duck which was delicious as were the desserts - chocolate delice (very rich albeit cut trough by the sorbet) and the custard mousse - delightful. The venue/building is very attractive and the location next to the river Lugg adds to the atmosphere. A nice place even just for a coffee, but an essential venue for any foodie. Enjoy……

Mutton - a first ! locally sourced, magnificent, almost impossible to find. And a really fine old place, oozing with character

Lovely location, inside and out. A beautiful half-timbered building with a cozy, welcoming interior. The menu points with pride - and in detail - to the attention they've given to thoughtful local sourcing, and why not? The tempura Herefordshire snails were tasty indeed, especially with the fantastic homemade sourdough. So much so that I'd have welcomed more than three. The (local) duck breast was overcooked slightly, but not fatally; a crispy skin would have been nice. The accompanying beetroot was nicely done, but the plate was somewhat let down by an unpleasantly watery "sauce". Wine list adequate, if ordinary; carrot and potato sides uninspired. Great work on the desserts - the blue cheese ice cream was an unexpected and welcome option. All of the above were well presented and served by pleasant, professional staff. All told there's room for improvement, but it feels like they're on the cusp of great things. In the meantime, it's certainly worth the trip - and I'm looking forward to a return visit.

Absolutely fantastic gastro pub! the food was amazing, fabulous quality and flavours. The portions were very filling (i thought they might be quite small from some of the photos i had seen). The staff were very friendly and efficient. The setting is also lovely. Overall a fantastic experience, and we will definitely be returning!

I can not praise The Riverside at Aymestrey enough, from the warm welcome, to the impeccable service & exemplary food, this pub, with rooms is a pure delight! We stayed at the pub during a busy Bank Holiday, Sunday, where along with normal guests, the pub was hosting a large party. However, despite a relatively small team, service was exceptional! & the main man, George, clearly knows how to run a successful & efficient team. The pub is nestled within a small village, set along the river Lugg, & this 1600 pub is traditionally, gorgeous, with low ceilings & Tudor beams, uneven floors, quirky nooks & crannies to sit, relax & soak up the brilliant atmosphere. The grounds are pretty special too, with carefully designed planting, and boosting a superb Kitchen garden, where seasonally grown produce is used in their daily menu's. We stayed in one of their Garden Rooms which was incredibly comfortable, super cosy, and so peaceful. The decor, soft warm woods and muted greys, with lovely, quality fabrics. The bathroom, was a perfect size for the space & had the most amazing double shower! I had the most divine sleep in the fab bed! & the added extras of Fresh milk, Water, Coffee, Tea's, homemade biscuits & delicious chocolate nibs for a yummy Hot Chocolate - just heaven! Not to mention the gorgeous take away toiletries. However, it is the food that was the standout! The menu's are considered, using fresh, seasonal produce from their kitchen garden & small holding. The food is seasoned to perfection, well balanced & cooked with such care & passion. Our Sunday lunch was outstanding, the Beef, pink, soft & melt in the mouth, with a good depth of flavour. The Chicken was moist, seasoned well, & served with the most flavoursome garden produce, the Chard was excellent! Desert was equally divine, an unctous Custard Mouse, with Strawberry sorbet, which was fresh and packed full of flavour. The Riverside is a must visit, & if you can, a must stay.

An excellent place to stay for a weekend away. Great service from George and his team and the food was superb. The room was spacious with a very comfortable bed.

We experienced exceptional standards of customer service and the food was faultless. We stayed in one of the quirky garden lodges, which was good fun and kitted out well. The attention to detail, friendly yet professional staff and the quality of the food (all local plus some is grown on site) made this a very memorable stay indeed. As always absolutely perfect. The food is spectacular, super tasty and always presented beautifully. The staff at the Riverside are always so kind, friendly and very attentive. Highly recommend
