Tafarn y Gader Tapas, Bistro & Bar in Gwynedd

Stayed round the corner from this place on a bank holiday weekend and was cooking a Sunday roast shop's were shut and had no veg I went in to see if I could buy some the owner loaded me a bag of freshly cooked vegetables and would not accept any money the veg was amazing I would definitely recommend this place and thank you very much to the lovely owner and staff.

We had Easter Sunday lunch/carvery, £15 each, plate was big and overflowing with goodies. I loved all the vegetables and roasties. 5 choice of meats, 3 types of gravy. Highly recommend.

Weekend away in Wales with the family. Ended up getting a last minute table here on a Friday night. Lovely atmosphere. Service impeccable. Food is authentic, fresh and delicious. Family friendly aswel, our 7 year old daughter could eat multiple dishes off the menu and the staff were lovely with her. Had a great meal and a great experience. Highly recommend the Basque cheesecake for dessert, it is gorgeous!

This place is awesome! We went in one evening and they didn’t have any vegan options because of the winter but the chef lovingly accommodated for us. Which we are so grateful for 🙏🏼 The restaurant is really well decorated and put together and has a really nice warming energy! I imagine it gets very busy in tourist season, and I highly recommend it ✨ thank you so much to the young bartender and the chef, you really made our experience of wales even better. They went over and beyond for us. For our 25th Wedding anniversary. They set the table for us with beautiful flowers/candle and a glass of prosecco on the house. The food was absolutely amazing the seafood cooked to perfection.

The food was okay, we’ve travelled here and staying for a few nights. Eaten in quite a few tapas places now. For the area this great, prawns were amazing- the potatas braves were a let down, pretty sure they were Aunt Bessie’s roasts deep fried with some sauce on. It was however reasonably priced and all the staff were lovely and attentive. Had to ask for the bill, it wasn’t particularly busy. We didn’t have the paella, but saw them being served to others - it looked delicious and a lots of it.

Absolutely delicious food. Only problem I had was that it was a winter night and it was a bit cold inside, so dress up warm!

Absolutely fabulous tapas restaurant, the food is authentic, fresh and delicious. The service is fast, super friendly and very attentive. We’ve visited many times over the past 2 years and it never fails to impress with the consistent quality of food and service. Thank you!

good tasty quality Tapas, full of variety. we enjoyed what we ate and were supirsed as to how quickly we filled up. Nice staff kept us up dated and was helpful. Worth a visit.

Average food and drinks. OK but not special enough.

Once again, Bruno and his team served up a fabulous meal. This tapas restaurant never fails to deliver exceptionally good food. The range of flavours is first class as always and the staff are always pleasant and efficient. We don’t live locally, but during our many short visits to Dolgellau we visit Tafarn y Gader as often as possible as a great meal is guaranteed. Thanks again and will see you all again next Spring.👍👍

We were so looking forward to a meal here tonight. Booked a few days ago. Got there....we were totally forgotten. I had to go to the bar to get a menu. Then they didn't have what we ordered. It's been 4 years since we had a meal out together. Just so disappointed after such good reviews of the place. Maybe just an off day but it's put us right off visiting again.

We always love a visit to this Tapas whilst in Doll. Lovely little place, staff work really hard to make sure you are welcomed, that the food is served as quickly as is poss…..and it’s lovely food! Good choice, plenty of daily specials, all warm all fresh.

It's hard to put into words how much we enjoyed our visit here. Delicious olives, bread, beautifully cooked and incredibly tasty tapas dishes. And the desserts were some of the best I've had in a restaurant. Staff all lovely too. My only regret is that I left it so long to visit. Cannot wait for next time.

Food was fantastic. Had prawns in the shell, with bravas potatoes, simply gorgeous. Staff were attentive and polite. Managed to thank the chef for a lovely dinner as well.

We were staying locally, and wandered in at 6 pm without a reservation, based on their glowing reviews. We have visited Spain a number of times, and this visit brought back many happy memories. Definitely would book next time though, as others who arrived later without booking were turned away. Recommend ox cheeks, prawns and the amazing desserts. We will return!

Amazing food, friendly helpful staff despite the fact it was clearly busy. We were staying nearby on holiday and so very grateful we could bring our dog with us. I’m vegetarian and had plenty of tasty options. We had starters, mains, dessert and a bottle of wine - not a bad dish amongst them all!

Eating early, on my own, I was a bit hesitant. However, the staff were just lovely and gave me a great table looking out onto the street. The house white wine was perfectly chilled and tasted good, the olives flavourful. I had patatas bravas and a mushroom and prawn croquette - they were both delicious. This place is definitely worth a visit - highly recommended.

Struggling to add anything new not posted by others. Service was good, the food was excellent. Book ahead, you won't be disappointed.

The food here is amazing and the service is excellent. We booked the night before and were given a very comfortable seat in the window. As there were five of us eating we ordered many of the Tapas dishes on the menu and enjoyed all of them. The croquettes (on special) were particularly good and we also liked the lamb filo parcels. They were very busy and fully booked but the staff were all very friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was relaxed. We also enjoyed a selection of delicious cheesecakes for dessert. (we all had a different one: passion fruit, almond, malteser and biscotti). We would definitely come back here next time we are passing through.

Four times we have eaten here and the experience has been good each time. Lovely food, very pleasant staff and good ambience.

Great service, amazing food, very friendly staff. House wine good. Cannot fault any of the food but would highly recommend the ox cheeks, lamb filo parcels and the short ribs. Friendly but not really our sort of place. We booked vi's google ratings which did not really represent the venue. But it was busy, and people seemed generally happy. But not a place we will revisit, sorry...

Wow! Great food, great atmosphere and great service We had a lovely meal - and will be back. Our party included two children who enjoyed trying lots of new foods.

Always end up in this place as I would say it has the tastiest food in the town. Second time back here this year and will continue to eat here when we are staying just up the road in the mach loop.

I dropped in without a reservation on the off chance and was lucky they could squeeze me in. Would definitely book in advance if I could. The staff were helpful, explaining everything I needed. The lamb in filo was divine and incredibly tender. The croquettes stuffed with mussel were amazing, too.

Have always absolutely loved tavern y gader and we visit as often as we can as now living in Wiltshire . We were last here 7 of us last November , and had a great night . Couldn’t wait to visit again a few days ago . Big change for us , where was our lovely friendly efficient waitress Emma , young lads this time that didn’t really know what was going on . The owner was run off his feet and it seemed a bit chaotic. People were given menus when sitting down but not told of items not available until ordering which was a shame as I’m sure some would have wanted them The menu has been significantly reduced since our last visit with limited tapas , some of the old favourites were available and a few new ones but so many we have had before now not on the menu . What we had was lovely and great quality , but we were disappointed overall with atmosphere and service . It just wasn’t the same as we have experienced before . We have heard rumours that it may close which will be a disaster for Dolgellau . Already lost Merionydd restaurant . Which with tavern y gader were two if the best places to eat for something different from pub grub . The place to us needs an injection of renewed deco especially on the upper area compared to the colourful bit as you come in . We for one will be gutted if it closes . Would prefer to have a bit of T L C injected and the menu increased again with more of the fabulous tapas especially vegy options like the tempura vegetables and Iberico pork to name a few I would also like to add that we have always sat in the front and the upper bit is soulless and people get forgotten about . The deco there is very jaded . Crossing everything that things improve as have always maintained that the tapas have been the best we have had anywhere . 🤞🙏🏾

Just exceptional from the outset. Fantastic welcome...Great timing of service...price point spot on. The food...lamb, ox cheeks...in fact everything we had was superb. You need to book as already buzzing 630pm sat eve...people had to be turned away. This restaurant has got everything just perfect !

We visited this little restaurant last night and had a fabulous tapas meal. The staff were helpful and efficient and the food was delicious. We shared 6 tapas meals between 3 of us plus a bowl of patatas bravas and this was the perfect amount....

My son took my husband and myself last week (part of a belated father's day gift). Despite the fact that they were very short staffed AND they were very busy (for which they couldn't apologise enough) the service of the most gorgeous food I've tasted...

We found this place through google reviews and were not disappointed. It's an award winning restaurant for reason. The atmosphere is great and meals are freshly prepared with good quality seafood. We were a group of 5 and they were kind enough to accept a reservation on the day. Lovely Spanish food and wine. Would recommend everything we had - Paella, prawns, squid/calamari and desserts. Free parking less than 5mins from restaurant.

Seven of us had tapas here whilst on holiday. From start to finish it was all a bit chaotic. Food items were missed and we did wait for a long time for our food. BUT were pleasantly informed about the wait etc. Food was delicious, tasty & enjoyed by all. We were fed and watered and went away happy. If around the area again we will most definitely be booking in.

The staff were really lovely and attentive but unfortunately the food was disappointing. It didn't seem fresh and some meals were flavourless. A shame because the place has so much going for it otherwise.

Not much to look at from the outside but the foods amazing.

Staff we're incredibly hospitable and friendly from the off with a lovely atmosphere. We had most of the menu between us in the end. It was all absolutely incredible, as was the wine. It was also dog friendly, which was great!

I work overnight in the area quite often and this is our go to for a good meal. Authentic recipes, fresh ingredients. This is an absolute gem of a restaurant!!!

Ermmm.....Really struggling as to why people think this food is even 'good?' Overpriced Bland, cold plates, cold food! Told the waiter and nothing. No apology nothing. If you want taste, value for money and I definitely recommend the stag 3 minutes down the road 👌...

Lovely food, lovely people. Our first time here but definitely won't be our last. It's an hour drive each way for us but worth it for the authentic Spanish cuisine. Leave room for the homemade Basque almond cheesecake!

Very impressed with this gem of a restaurant! We hadn't booked anywhere and tried our luck here, thankfully there was a cancellation to allow us in. The food was delicious and the service was excellent! Very much appreciated a table being put in the courtyard last minute so we could have coffees to finish. We have come to the end of our Barmouth holiday and this was the perfect place to end our time.

Run by a lively Spanish couple. Lovely atmosphere and decor gave it a real feel of being in a Spanish restaurant. An interesting local produce fusion on the tapas all very tasty , well cooked and presented. Great attentive staff. Really enjoyed it
