A return to Liverpool found us revisitibg The Art School after two years.Little has changed and the food, setting and service (under more challenging conditions at the moment) are just as good. Prices have changed little and £79.00 for three courses and a glass of Charles Heidseck Champagne represents good value for the standard of food and service on offer. The wine list continues to offer interesting selections at good prices and coffee and Petit Fours were very nice although a little expensive. This is a true fine dining establishment and one which solely deserves to be recognised by Michelin with a star!We are not often in Liverpool but The Art School remains on our list to return to.

Came here for the outdoor menu, to be honest you’re sat on a curb-side in Liverpool, the service is pretty poor even though the food was ok which took the edge off it. Would not go back until it’s properly back open

This place is beautiful. From the second we arrived we were looked after by friendly, professional and knowledgeable staff. My wife and I came here for her birthday, for "Al Fresco" dining since this took place prior to the current restrictions being lifted. Although the weather was inclement, to say the least, this had no effect whatsoever on our experience - which speaks volumes to the care taken by the restaurant to ensure a fantastic dining experience whatever the weather. First of all - what a beautiful restaurant. The main dining area looks stunning and we will be returning here to eat indoors as soon as we can. The terrace we dined is was also very welcoming and rather cosy, with heaters and canopies to protect us from the elements. The menu was remarkably varied and caters for al dietary requirements - this includes the set menus. Care was taken to ask for any allergies or intolerances and the experience and care of the staff shone throughout every interaction. My wife and I each chose the pescatarian set menu and it was just mind-blowing. From the amuses-bouches all the way to dessert, every course was beautifully presented, full of flavour and clearly prepared with the finest ingredients. The drinks menu was just as varied as the food menu, whether you wanted wine, aperitifs, cocktails, beer, and so on. We had prosecco with the entrees, an English Chardonnay with the main, and a Montbazillac with the desert. All three were a delight and complemented the food perfectly. I've mentioned the staff briefly, but once again I have to commend their professionalism; it was clear that they take pride in representing this restaurant and that they are passionate about what they do. Just fantastic. To sum up, then: if you're after a fine dining experience in Liverpool, look no further than The Art School. I can guarantee you won't regret it. We'll be back!

Good evening, I cannot rate the Food & Drink or Value for Money as we did not get to eat at the restaurant. I had booked for the courtyard as soon as it was announced on their Instagram page. We arrived for our reservation early and were advised that our table was ready so we could sit down then. We were seated at one of the street level tables. After we sat we realised how close to the cars that we were after a taxi pulled up beside us and idled causing exhaust fumes to swirl around us. We asked if we could be seated in the courtyard as this had been confirmed by email to us. We spoke to different staff members who all told us that this had been happening to many other diners that day and I overheard the table beside us also complain. We spoke to someone that I believe to be the manager and we were offered a bottle of champagne to stay in those seats but we had been looking forward to the courtyard. We were told that it wasn't possible to move as the system allocated us to the street side and there was no room for us down there. We were reminded that all the restaurants were doing street seating and if we had gone to Bold Street for dinner that night we would be sitting on the street there too, I commented that Bold Street was not on the same level of dining as The Art School but this was blanked. The drinks that we ordered when we first sat never arrived and nobody came back to us at all. We left! I would advise the restaurant to train their staff on how to deliver bad news if the restaurant has been overbooked, give a courtesy call to the customers if their bookings are changed and maybe just don't overbook in the first place. This entire interaction really took the wind out of our sails on our anniversary.

We took the family for a Christmas night out. I do love the Art School, the staff are always spot on. The sommelier in particular was a really nice guy, lots of advice but not patronising. I always love the food, my husband had the partridge and I had the carpaccio. My only complaint is that the carpaccio was the smallest portion I've ever had. We both had the Edge beef which is always superb. And the deserts as usual were excellent. Both our kids are vegetarian/vegan. Their choice would be Hypha in Chester for veggie food but seemed quite happy here! We ate our desert in the cellars downstairs which I love. And we got to sit in the private dining room as we were 5 which I was very excited about. A nice evening to remember. I'm praying we won't into tier 3 but probably will. How these places cope with the uncertainty is beyond me.

Another great visit to the Artschool. The service is excellent reserved but attentive by the staff who are keen to serve and where nothing is too much trouble. We started with Partridge breast and the Deer sliced carpaccio. That last one is my only moan my partners partridge was fabulous and a decent size however the carpaccio was a different story. The thinnest of thin slices and one only. It was thinner than a piece of paper. I appreciate it is meant to be thinly sliced but honestly this was embarrassingly so. If there had have been 2/3 slices then maybe it would have been excused but this was embarrassing especially watching my partner tuck into her partridge. For mains we had the beef and the Pheasant and both were delicious. The dessert was a mixture of sweets which again was lovely. We did not have the wine this time despite the excellent selection but had some of the special ales which were lovely. Certainly I will be returning however without selecting the carpaccio. We also retired to the cellars to finish the night was a lovely end to a lovely meal. Staff as usual were excellent.

I was unfortunately left pretty disappointed with my meal, having gone for the pescatarian tasting menu option. Three out of my seven dishes had the same boiled tasteless romanesco cauliflower, which was exciting on round one, but by round three pretty boring. The final fish dish which should have been the star of the show didn't taste of anything, and was pretty similar to two of the other plates. In comparison, my boyfriend's meal was amazing! He went for the meat option, and this had the considerate, creative and refined approach I'd expect from a restaurant of this status, not to mention the price we paid for it.When I expressed my views about my experience, the waiter looked sympathetically at me and said 'oh, you wish you had gone for the meat option'. Not exactly the response I was expecting.

This was our second visit for a Sunday afternoon meal. This kind of dining truly does stand out in this city. The food was exceptional. We had twice baked souffle to start and had the chefs special hoggart carved at our table for main. The depth of flavour is incredible and the generously designed dishes really does make you feel like you are eating exactly how the chef intends, instead of some other local restaurants that design portions that never intend to fill you up or make feel satisfied.Extensive wine list with excellent section. I genuinely can't recommend this restaurant enough.

English style, I ordered the optional cheese board after our desserts. a good mix of 5 beautiful cheeses. however, it was the size of the portions of the cheeses, they were very small. I've had the cheese course on previous occasions, but don't remember them being this small previously. and at £17, i couldn't help but feel a little short changed on this. that aside, a really good time had by all, and we didn't stop there. following the meal we popped down to their cellar bar for cocktails to round off the night. a beautiful and relaxing space, well worth a visit, partic if you're in no rush to get home. my cheese gripes aside I will most definitely be back.

Was a little disappointing compared to my last experience we went for the Tasting Menu this time, which was a tasteless and bland. The service was a little slow don’t know it was because the restaurant was full. We even got our drinks knocked off the bill because the wait was so long even without us complaining about the length of time we waited. We was so looking forward to returning but was left disappointed.

Very attentive staff, they make The Art School what it is. Made to feel welome. Assisted to choose a lovely wine to go with our dinner. Prix fixe menu for the vegetarians had a limited choice to be honest. Enjoyed the souffle, main course was ok, a vegetarian strudel, a bit bland. A plate of desserts and cheeseboard to end our meal. Desserts were ok. Appreciated the effort, attention from staff to make a choice from the cheeses offered. I think we are done now with The Art School. Plenty of great restaurants in Liverpool to choose from.

Excellent service throughout a friendly and efficient welcome, coats removed and quickly shown to our table. The early bird meal was chosen as time was limited and staff were attentive without rushing us through the meal. Presentation of the food was imaginative and importantly served hot where applicable despite the time taken to arrange on the plate.

This is so worth a visit. We went on both occasions to the early doors between 5.30-8pm and had three courses. Our initial visit was marred by part of my friend's starter. But we were invited to return. The service, attention to detail, care of the customer and explanation as to the contents of one's meal was excellent and did everything to make one feel special even down to staff warming one's coat in front of the fire prior to leaving. The food was innovative, delicious and carefully cooked. Highly recommend.

A truly memorable occasion, from the champaigne & canapés that greeted us to the fine cheese board at the end. High class food served to perfection and waited on by unobtrusive staff who knew all our needs. The choice was innovative and not what you get elsewhere. It is expensive but worth every penny because of the whole dining experience.

The food was excellent and the cocktails were wonderful as well. The service was nice but a tad serious and overly pretentious, although that’s to be expected with a place such as this one. We had the tasting menu and in the whole the food was really good and the building is great with a nice atmosphere. Unfortunately there are some things they really need to iron out, apart from one person, whom I assume was the manager, the service was student-like and not the exceptional service you would expect of a high end restaurant, at least two glasses were broken. The fire alarm also went off. To the food, given it’s a tasting menu you expect there to be some consistency, however my girlfriend pigeon was completely over cooked and mine was nearly. The pastry on my dessert was burnt, my girlfriends not. If they can improve these things a star beckons

A belated birthday treat we visited on a cold evening and ushered to the fireside to warm up. We were met by Felipe who made us most welcome and, as we were slightly early, gave us a wonderful tour of the premises. We were then shown to our table and began our meal. What can I say? The food was simply sublime and exquisitely presented, a treat from start to finish and the staff were helpful and friendly, clearly enjoying the evening. This is a wonderful place that serves fantastic food and, on departure, found that they had been warming our coats by the fire. Hospitality indeed!

We were lucky enough to be taken here as a treat by some friends, who on the strength of today’s meal, are now our very very good friends!! The food is absolutely fantastic - words are not good enough - but the whole ambience from the minute we walked in was superb. Waiting staff were very attentive and friendly, yet accomplished professionals, who gave superb service - right down to warming our coats in front of the fire before we left (I’ve NEVER had that done before). From the amuse bouche to the sharing dessert (not to mention the pre-dessert dessert!!) this was truly a gastronomic masterpiece. Others have described the menu choices better than I can, but I was able to eat and enjoy food that I would normally refuse. And superb wine! This will become our new favourite restaurant. And don’t be put off by the set 3 course menu, it is exceptionally good. Qaulity tableware, sharply starched expensive table linen - it was all there. Go on, reward yourself...

Wow, Wow, Wow! This restaurant is an absolute must. We came here to celebrate our wedding anniversary. What a totally fabulous experience. The staff are just brilliant and their welcome sets the tone for the whole evening. We choose the excellence menu, but I have to say excellence is actually an understatement. The restaurant is beautiful, large tables so you are not squashed up to the next table and you can maintain some privacy. You can see the kitchen from your table and watching Paul Askew working, alongside his team, was a nice aspect. They clearly work weĺl and in harmony, the restaurant was pretty full but the kitchen was so calm. The food is absolutely delicious, we had beautiful canapes served with an aperitif in the bar, then at our table we had Jerusalem artichoke amuse bouche, that was one of the most delicious things I've ever had. Starters: we had roast quail and the veggie starter of honey roast figs with goats cheese. Mains: we had the fish of the day and the roast loin of pork. Each of these dishes were outstanding taste sensations, cooked to perfection and somehow every mouthful tasted different. It's hard to describe how fanatstic these dishes were in words so I highly recommend a visit and treat your tastebuds to this experience. We had the cheese course, which is an additional choice add on to the menu and it's worth it as we got to taste some wonderful British cheeses that we have never tried. The ewes cheese was incredible. Desserts were mind blowing, lemon tart, but like nothing we've ever seen before and berry compote with chocolate mascarpone. We were fit to burst at this stage so there was no room for anything else! We absolutely loved this restaurant, the food is just fabulous and the staff made the whole experience one that we will talk about, tell friends about, and we will definitely return. 10 out of 10 doesn't do it justice, so it's 100 out of 10 from us. Go experience this place and I'm sure you'll love it just as much as we did. Thank you Art School

It’s popular. But there’s not much to commend this place, in my view. And nothing at all at the high prices it charges. I found much of the food (though not all of it) average. Excellent venison dish with parsnip puree. But pigeon was overcooked. Brown bread roll (“pain cereale” if you please) would have been disappointing if bought from a supermarket. Little inspiration that I could see in many of the food combinations on the pricey tasting menu (or the pairings of the wines). General lack of green vegetables or invigorating freshness. £55 wine flight was dull. It shouldn’t be at that price. Surliest restaurant manager I can remember. Service lacking in smoothness or charm. Asked if I was enjoying my meal, my expressed disappointment was met my bland unconcern. Poor attention to detail, for good measure. Given a vegetarian menu by mistake. Slow to replenish the water. Waiter couldn’t even identify all elements on the plate. And the dining room was surprisingly raucous. Little sign for me that concerns raised in MO’L review (worth a read) have been heeded or there is seen to be any need to do so.

On arrival, I felt a tad underdressed - possibly because my well intentioned good lady wife said "you melt, you're underdressed" bless her.... I get what she meant though, the building has a certain aura that screams-out "high end eatery" and the welcome offered by the front-of-house team adds to that perception (whilst also making you feel very special). The Art School has a unique atmosphere which covers all the bases; if you want to impress your guest/partner by taking them to a high quality "posh" restaurant than this place ticks that box - but equally, if you just want some super-delicious food but haven't dressed for Michelin style surroundings, bingo, this box gets ticked too! This fantastic quirk is due soleley to the great staff - they appear to pick-up immediately on what their customers want and serve accordingly (a difficult balance to achieve, but they do it wonderfully well). Importantly, the great architecture, decor and service are not the only aspects that will make you go wow (either mentally or like me, verbally, much to Mrs B's chagrin) - the menu is brilliant, offering a wide range of well thought-out dishes, amply satisfying all tastes and dietary requirements. I'm sure we've all visited restaurants where the menu reads well but the food fails to live up to the written hype (reminds me of the after shave ads within in-flight magazines, what a load of flowery old tosh they are) but in this respect The Art School really delivers. The food served to my wife, my daughter and myself was absolutely excellent - across all courses too. I would highly recommend to anyone that they visit the Art School for a fantastic culinary experience, perhaps just dont wear trainers (or go with a couiture-snob like you know who). Seriously, we will definately be revisiting again in the near future - a great restaurant!

The food is well-cooked and the service is always great but it feels like the menu has been the same for years now - especially that featherblade beef, the same across all of the Elite restaurants. Noting exciting or inventive really going on. Was hoping for some fresh dishes so was disappointed, definitely wouldn't go back again unless they updated it all a bit, but you'd probably enjoy it if you'd not been before.
