Great local pub serving fantastic pub grub, with very welcoming and friendly staff. We thoroughly enjoyed a Saturday night here when we stayed in a cottage just up the road.

Came down for the weekend and booked a table for the Friday night with 4 friends. We all had an outstanding meal, great value and served by a fantastic team. Back in for beers on the Saturday and booked for one of the best roasts myself and the guys have had in a pub on the Sunday. Cannot recommend this place enough. Landlord is a legend, as are the staff

Recommended to head here by our B&B hosts when we we had a hankering for burgers and they did not disappoint! The onion rings in particular were spot on. We sat outside in the colourful rockband themed sheds (we sat in Motorshed, next door to Shed Zeppelin), which had lighting and a heater came on when the temperature dropped. The sheds are a great example of the innovative solutions that good establishments came up with during lockdown that have persisted due to their unique character. Staff were friendly and attentive, and prices were reasonable to boot. If you're looking for a solid pub option in the area then totally recommend this place.

Visited yesterday for Sunday roast and wow what a meal. Roast lamb, lots of it and nicely cooked and very tasty. When our meal was brought out it was well presented and we both knew we wouldn't be eating all of it! Huge helpings, tasty roastie's,boiled new pots, parsnips, asparagus, carrots, fine beans and plenty of gravy and mint sauce. Pleasant landlord and staff topped off our experience. A very tasty meal and lovely staff made for a very enjoyable experience.

Just been out as a family (mum and dad and v much grown up couple children). Told there was a bit of a wait- sounded good to us meant the food would be fresh!! Got seated in a lovely shed converted into outdoor covered seating with the dog and a few drinks before dinner. Dinner was lovely- gorgeous home made chilli on nachos for me and everyone else was very impressed with their curries/pies. Lovely service and a wonderful last evening on our holiday. Absolutely recommend 5 stars- wish we’d visited before our last Evening!

After reading the reviews and having this pub recommended to us by a couple of locals I can only say how very disappointed we were with the quality of what we were served at such an extortionate price. Pizza night - yeah I understand you may need to serve a limited menu but you could have advised us of this when we booked. I wish I’d taken a photo. A veggie pizza, 3 cherry tomatoes cut in half with 3 slithers of red pepper, soggy base covered with cheese, with equally vile chips. I could have bought better at the supermarket. The final blow- charged nearly £40 for 2 pizzas and a couple of drinks. Totally shocked that people think that is acceptable to serve such poor quality food at that price. On a positive the young girls serving were very polite and personable.

Thursday nights during lockdown is ‘pies’ and I have to say it was the best chicken pie I’ve ever tasted outside my kitchen (I have to add that don’t I). Really stuffed full of delicious chicken and ham and served alongside really crunchy chips - and peas (they were just peas) but the pie was the star! Great service too. I would recommend the Castle Inn in Llangors to everyone.

We took refuge in The Castle Inn following a particularly extreme deluge, where the landlord graciously permitted our hanging of soggy garments before the hearth while fetching pints to our table. While we did not eat here, the menu boasts wholesome diversity with choice even for veggies, vegans and the gluten free folk. Respect! We asked whether we could park our live-in in the car park and were warmly welcomed, thus propping up the bar until late on a Saturday night. The rains persisted, growing exponentially worse, until the street outside became a veritable torrent. Villagers kept popping into the bar, updating us on the state of the village and even sandbagging the door to the bar as the floods threatened to cross the threshold. As the storm's drama continued, the pub's function evolved beyond that of a simple drinking house and became more of a centre-point for informations and refuge. Not only does this pub serve as a pillar of the local community, they are welcoming of visitors and are kind, sincere hosts who genuinely care about their guests and work hard to ensure a good time is had by all. Just sound people, affable locals and good beer. I can't think of what more you could ask for from a pub. Long live the local!

Called in on a spring bank holiday without booking, this was not a problem we were seated and drinks served to the table. The menu reflects the local passion for game meat with various pies and burgers to tantalise your taste buds. Mike was a wonderful host ( and a right character -man). Two burgers were our choice one game with pulled duck and a chicken BLT. Both were really tasty. Compliments to the chef who prepares the food ( Mike’s wife ).

If you're in this area and don't go to this wonderful place then you are sorely missing out on an experience. The staff are so friendly and helpful, the food is simple, beautifully presented and cooked and the beer is outstanding. My brother in law and I were staying nearby and walked here with our dogs. We chose venison and mushroom pie which was simply wonderful. The chef couldn't have packed more meat into the pie if they tried. Utterly delicious. The Abbot Ale is just the best I have ever drank, perfectly kept. The whole place oozes such a friendly ambience and we'll definitely be going again. If you don't go then it's your loss! I was asked to write a derogatory word about Mike the landlord as a joke. I'm pretty sure the Trip Advisor team would censor that term but Mike you are a ****!! Fantastic staff at the castle Inn. Can’t thank them enough, I have never received such thoughtful service. My partner and I were on holiday with our 6 month old baby, who decided to scream the entire pub down as soon as we ordered our food. However the staff couldn’t have been more helpful. My partner left to drive the baby around to get him to go to sleep, our waitress offered to keep his food warm for him, and also offered plenty of kind and reassuring, thoughtful, sympathetic words. When I went to pay the bill, the man behind the bar (who I assume is the landlord) offered to pay for our drinks as we had had a less than relaxing experience! They were friendly to us all throughout our visit especially our baby. The food was very very good, particularly the burgers which were among the best we’d ever had. They made us and our baby feel very at home and welcome indeed. If we return to the area we would definitely go back to the castle inn. Thanks so much once again.

We've been going to the Castle for Sunday lunch for the last three and a half years. WHY.? Because it's the best Sunday lunch ever and we've eaten in some amazing restaurants over the years. Roast and new potatoes, dwarf green beans, roasted asparagus, chantenay carrots, beetroot and parsnips, parsnip crisps and of course Yorkshire pudding. Then there's the gravy!! Meat stock, red wine, onions and that bay leaf for depth of flavour and I haven't even mentioned the amazing quality of the meat yet. We're not locals but have been made to feel part of the community by Mike, Michelle and the Castle regulars and of course the wonderful staff.

The table of *ladies * that we were sat near, left an unfavourable review that we felt we should defend, they were given more veg and don’t mention all they other accomplishments such as parsnips beetroot new potatoes, they were rude to the young waitress and drunk from the moment they arrived! They are obviously used to eating at cheap pile it high establishments and were after a free meal! Can’t wait to go back next week for the start of their Xmas traditional roast turkey!!

Went here with friends today, bar man very nice, but the food was terrible, beef over cooked, one bowl of veg served between 4 people, told that was all we could have, so for 13.95 we had two slices of beef, one potato, one carot, one stick of asparagus, and Oxo gravy with onion, bar man took our drinks off and gave us crisps to leave with for free because we were all still hungry. What made it worse was a couple next to us had the same amount of food for two, as we had for four. Don't WASTE your money people.....

We visited on a Saturday evening and had thankfully booked a table. We had read reviews, many of which had mentioned the delicious pies. So we trotted along, a short walk from Llynfi Holiday Park and boy, oh boy... we were NOT disappointed. We both ordered pies, one Game Pie and one Steak and Stilton. Soooooo good. So many times, pies are served in a ceramic dish with a puff pastry lid about a mile high that collapses to nothing at one stab of the fork. Not these babies though, oh no! They were proper pies, free standing and fully encased in the most delicious pastry. As for the filling, each pie was crammed full of the tastiest, tender meat and the flavour was just fabulous. I had mine with potatoes and veg and I don’t know what they had done to the potatoes, but they were super yummy. We were rather full but couldn’t resist a pudding. We had apple and blackberry crumble and apple and gooseberry crumble, both with custard. Divine! As for the drinks, we had a gin and tonic which was served in a lovely bowl glass with blueberries and strawberries and Celtic Gold Craft lager. Need to find some bottles of that.

My wife and I were staying at a nearby b&b so booked a table at the castle for an evening meal .It is lucky we did , as the place was packed .My wife and I both had the sirloin steak , which was cooked superbly and was accompanied by chips and sweet potato fries and a lovely fresh side salad . All washed down with a nice bottle of wine .Prices are very good value and the landlord was very friendly and welcoming .Will certainly return next time we are in the area .

We had a lovely drink and meal at the Castle. The owner and staff were super-friendly and welcoming to us (and our two whippets) - squeezing us in for dinner despite being fully booked. After sampling the local cider, we had delicious burgers and a lovely smooth red wine (from a choice of three by the glass)..Really cosy feel to the pub, lots of outside space and really nice toilets (always a good marker!)

The Castle is a must-visit when in Llangorse. Mike provides great service and is a lovely guy who will always help you if he can. The food here is beautiful, so long as you can get in (Sunday's are a must-book and other days are often busy), so be sure to book in as not to be disappointed. My parents book in here almost every Sunday without fail even though they are not locals. Superb pub

The decoration of the inn is low key - hence Basic in the best possible way and the food and drinks were excellent. The game pie was one of the best we have had and the venison burger delicious. The vegetables were also well cooked.

Excellent pub food - tasty, large servings, great service. Only 2 options for eating in Llangorse & this is far & away the best option - wish we'd eaten here both nights.

We have been visiting this pub on a Sunday for lunch for a couple of years and have in fairness , never been disappointed . Stayed at a local campsite for the weekend and ate here twice recently . Land Lord very accommodating , food superb - fresh , well cooked and presented and service was engaging and friendly . We love this place - it's a proper , well run , welcoming , country pub which seems to be few and far between these days .

We have eaten here on a number of occasions and have never been disappointed The Sunday lunch in particular is simply stunning, served on a wooden plank with a selection of vegetables including roast beetroot which is unusual but delicious Always a friendly welcome but worth booking in advance

Advisable in summer to pre-book for evening food, staff we turning people away at 8.00pm despite plenty of vacant tables. Much of the menu was not available but what was proved to be excellent, and staff cheered up as the evening progressed.

We went to this pub for a late lunch, the staff are lovely and the food even nicer. A huge number of homemade pies and they were superb. The chips were a mixture of normal chips and sweet potato fries - fantastic!

We were staying at nearby Lakeside Campsite (see separate review) and visited Castle Inn the night we arrived (Monday). The landlord (?) Mike was welcoming and welcomed visitors to the areas as well as locals. We asked about the football as Wales were playing the in the Euro 2016 semi-final. Mike confirmed that the football would be on and that there would be pie and chips at half time. We returned to watch the football (Wednesday) - shame about the result. We booked a table for dinner on Thursday and the food was great - locally sourced meat. There's a good choice of drinks, including real ales, wine, and a good range of spirits. There's a knack to running a good pub and this one seems to have it sussed. It's the kind if place that can make a week away. Thanks!

Popped by for dinner as it was recommended by the b&b we were staying in. Really glad we did, lovely food, nice portion size and the staff were really friendly too. We got there early and had to wait for a table but it was worth it, lots of locals there too which is always a sign of a good place to eat :)

Best vegetarian meal I've ever had in a pub! I was tempted by the curry but the pie I ordered was wholesome, hearty and extremely tasty. Paprika fries, regular fries or sweet potato fries and they stayed hot as they serve them in a hot bowl on a hot plate. Also the salad was very fresh. Yum! My partner had the best sirloin steak he'd ever tasted! We arrived late in the evening and were told that we would get fed but we would have to wait as the pub dinning room was full. We went outside and before we got through a lovely glass of cider our meal was served. Very friendly staff, great barman, good atmosphere. Thoroughly recommend this pub.

I will start with the good points:The food!! The food is what is keeping this place going. All of our meals were very well presented and very tasty. The Lady serving us was very friendly and polite. The bad points:Whilst we were sat outside having our meal we were surrounded by foul mouthed, shouting and smoking punters which ruined the relaxed evening meal we were hoping for. When going inside it felt as if the whole place came to a stop and would stare. There was a little bit of a mix up with our booking for the evening meal which meant we waited a little longer than normal for our food. The photos online gave the impression it was a quite country pub but in fact you are right on the main road. Overall I would rate this 3.5 out of 5. But the food swayed it for me. Hats off to the chef, you’re keeping this place alive!

If you like the outdoors you will love this pub! Lovely home cooking, great beer, and a good wine selection at affordable prices. The owners and staff are friendly and welcoming. Take a hike up to Rodney's Pillar and then have a pint and a bite to eat. Very dog friendly. Cosy fires and a lovely beer garden where you can hear the nearby brook. If you are lucky enough to be in the area when the Christmas illuminated tractor runs take place. This is the place to watch them go by and join in.
