My friend and I called for lunch on Saturday the 9th March. I had not visited the Chefs Table in the new Pepper Street premises and was really impressed by the ambience, decor & service. The staff were great especially the young waiter who served us and the sommelier who recommended a perfect wine to accompany our delicious meal. The food was fabulous. Not cheap, but worth every penny. A real treat. Would highly recommend.

First time visiting since they moved to Pepper Street. I thought the change of location would take away from the intimacy of the smaller venue but I was so wrong. This place has only gotten better. We had the valentines tasting menu and everything was perfection. Flavours, textures, portion sizes all spot on. The sommelier recommended a lovely wine and was so knowledgable and happy to answer our questions. Our waitress also recommended a nice gin and mixer for my partner who fancied something more refreshing than beer after the first few courses. The staff were outstanding, so attentive and gave us lots of information about the food. Sometimes food of this level can feel intimidating and pretentious but not here, staff want you to ask questions and it feels like they genuinely have a passion for good food and are happy to share that with you. We got the olives and arancini for the table, both great little starters. We didn’t wait long for our food, after finishing each course our plates were cleared very promptly. The music and atmosphere is lovely, felt very relaxed and taken care of. We had such a gorgeous night, I can’t fault this place, the attention to detail is brilliant, everything from the plates to the chairs smoothly gliding across the floor as you sit down, it’s these details that make it so special.

This is a real gourmet experience with a small and ever changing menu. It is an independent restaurant in the centre of Chester. The service is excellent and attentive. The noise is subdued and the tables a fair distance apart. The decor is modern and pleasant. Fantastic starter and dessert but the main felt rushed and not to the usual standard. My husband’s pie that accompanies the beef had a paperclip attached to the potato ring. My duck was nice but the sauce lacked the depth of flavour i have come to expect when coming here. One of the main servers smelled of sweat. The most friendly, relaxed and welcoming restaurant we have found in Chester. The food was nothing short of absolutely perfect but what really made it stand out was the atmosphere and service. The staff were genuinely friendly, knew the menu inside out and were completely accommodating. Even the sommelier was much more interested in finding you something you'd really like rather than something expensive. The menu had seasonal ingredients running through them like recurring themes that made everything you ate a completely balanced and interesting experience and every single element of each dish was cooked beautifully. Oh And the service was absolutely spot on. Never intrusive or rushed even though it was a busy Friday night but always there when wanted. If you'd like a relaxed night out but with utterly gorgeous food try this place.

THE CHEF’S TABLE We almost ate here. Having reviewed the website photographs, menu, and noted the very expensive prices (approximately £35 for a main, excluding side dishes), we were expecting an up-market and stylish restaurant and dressed up for the occasion - a celebratory dinner. However, we quickly realised that we had been misled. In real life, the room was disappointing, with garish uncomfortable furniture and was in our opinion, too brightly lit. The dress code was closer to jeans and T shirts. There were a number of small children exploring the restaurant pursued by their parents. We were forced to stand and wait for 5 minutes before our presence was acknowledged. When he did attend to us, the waiter was unable to make eye contact as he was too focused on his iPad. He did not offer us a pre-dinner drink: we had to ask for it. This request appeared to be a lot of effort. We subsequently asked to speak to the person in charge / manager, but sadly she was too busy to talk to us. We decided to cancel our reservation, paid for our drinks and left. We actually walked a few yards along Pepper Street to Piccolinos, where we were immediately greeted by a welcoming smile, showed to a table (despite no reservation) and offered drinks and a menu. We enjoyed a very pleasant meal with delightful, helpful staff and were pleased to have avoided an expensive and unsatisfactory experience at The Chef’s Table. Perhaps the food is good, but it is sorely let down by the front of house staff; I suspect we shall never know.

I spent a lot of time researching restaurants in the area in search of somewhere special to take my family of four for my husband’s 70th birthday. In the end I selected Chef’s Table based on recommendations and positive reviews. I could not have been more disappointed. Here’s why: They sat our party of four on a round table for eight! My husband was so far away I had to shout to be heard. I presume they sat us in the corner because I asked for a quiet area (my husband is hard of hearing) but it is utterly ridiculous and downright shameful that a high-class restaurant would seat four people on a table so large that you had to stand up to reach the carafe of water the server placed in the middle of the table. The service was slow and very inattentive. The plates were sitting at the table 15 minutes after we’d finished our starter. The main course, both the cod and the beef filet, were under seasoned. I tried to catch the eye of one of the servers in the hopes of getting some salt and pepper, but they were too busy chatting by the pass. The head of house was keen to make sure alcoholic drinks were topped up but had no interest in replenishing soft drinks or pitching in to clear the table. They forgot the chips we ordered. By the time they arrived everyone was finished with their main course. The ice cream that that comes with the molten chocolate was a puddle by the time it arrived at our table and the server didn’t seem to notice or care. To be fair, the pad Thai starter was lovely but that is the only positive thing I can say about what was a very expensive evening. I will never go there again.

On arrival we were one of three couples that were left unattended for some time before a member of staff came to speak to us , not very professional. In fact it seemed slightly chaotic. Once we were finally seated nobody offered to take our coats , it took a while for anyone to offer to take our drink order and very strange to be given the wine menu quite a while before the food menu. Once we had ordered and received a drink there was a better flow to the evening . The food was good not brilliant. It was Valentine's Day. We went to the bar to inform them that we had arrived. Think it would help if they had a front of house person instead of a waiter, who seemed to be doing multiple jobs. Our coats weren't taken but we were shown to a table for a drink. The place was busy for their first sitting, but we had the second sitting and the restaurant had quietened down. Once we had been taken to our table the waitress was helpful and informative. We had a starter and a main. We found the food to be quite tasteless although the meat tender. We had a cocktail and a bottle of mid range wine. A service charge of 15% was automatically added to the bill which took it to nearly £200.

It was great to have a sommelier and I found his suggestions of a Croatian white and then a Hungarian red to be spot on with the food I was having - they really complemented my meal. I didn't visit CT in it's former, smaller venue, so can't compare, but this space is light and airy and very tastefully furnished. It feels as though there is great attention to detail (the mark of a great restaurant) right down to the beautifully starched white table cloths and the music being at just the right volume.

MORE AT OpenTable

Have been wanting to visit Chef’s Table since they first opened in their smaller venue and eventually got around to giving it a try for my birthday. We went for the set three course lunch option and added two pre-starters for the table too (we were starving 😂). We were seated promptly and asked if we would like water for the table and our coats were taken (regretted this as it was quite chilly in there, so maybe need to turn the heating up a notch?). I was glad that we did have the water as our drinks didn’t arrive until after we had finished our pre-starters, although to be fair these did come out very quickly. Drinks are expensive for the area at £5 for a small bottle of Coke and £8 for a bottled lager. My pre-starter was Camembert and cranberry Arancini which I really enjoyed. It is Arancini with Camembert on top and cranberry on the side (rather than both being inside the Arancini as I had expected), but nevertheless I really enjoyed it. My husband also enjoyed his haggis pre-starter. For my proper starter I had the pork belly which was beautifully presented but only ok. The pork belly should have been the star of the show but it was mainly fat and didn’t really have any of the great flavour that you normally find with this cut. The apple puree lacked any contrasting sweetness and the other accompaniments were ok but sadly nothing special leapt out. My husband’s tuna starter was ‘quite nice’ according to him. Our mains however were both rather more disappointing. My husband had the chicken which was beautifully presented but was dry with no particular great flavour and came with a strange flavoured sauce and very strong chorizo which rather overpowered the dish, he tells me. I had the coley which looked like it had all been thrown on the plate and lacked colour and vibrance in appearance. Sadly it was a very disappointing dish. The coley fish was tasteless, as was the pesto crust, there were shrimps and capers on top rather than the scallop I was expecting having read the menu online (my fault probably for not reading the menu presented to me). The caramelised onion mash did not have any particular caramelised flavour and it was all just very average and one dimensional in flavour. Nothing about it shone out, apart from maybe the little parsnip crisps and I enjoyed the nuts! We had a side of sand carrots for an extra £7 which had plenty of almonds on but the carrots had no sweetness and not much flavour which was a shame as my meal needed something to lift it. For dessert I had the chocolate fondant which was small, and the ice cream was a bit melted, but rich and delicious (I liked the caramel tuile). My husband had the lemon and olive cake which he didn’t really enjoy as the cake was dry with a strange texture, but the rhubarb was good apparently. There was no acknowledgement of my birthday even though this occasion had been entered on the reservation. At my age I’m trying to forget birthdays anyway, but a small acknowledgement would have been nice! We had no issues with customer service which was excellent, apart from the initial slow drinks. We really wanted to love it here and didn’t complain as it was my birthday and we didn’t want to sour the occasion and nothing was terrible, just very average or below average. Overall it was just ok. There was a 15% off offer when we visited and we had the ‘cheaper’ £40 set menu. I’m not sure we would have been happy to pay the more expensive a-la-carte prices for the standard of food we were served. We had heard good reviews from friends and maybe our expectations were too high? It was sadly not what we had expected and not sure we would return with the current menu options.

This is our favourite restaurant in Chester, especially since they opened their new premises in Pepper St last year. We've been several times but today was a real letdown. Midweek, lunch time, the place was half empty (which is understandable) but we ordered 2 x G&Ts on arrival and they finally arrived after the starters and wine had already been served over 25 minutes later. A perfunctory "sorry", nothing more. The food was up to its usual standard but the waiting staff seemed rudderless, there was no one running the show. We decided to have coffee rather than a pudding and waited half an hour. Half an hour for two flat whites! Honestly, I couldn't wait to get out. A special occasion had the edge taken off it. When you're charging high end prices there can be no excuses for getting the basics wrong. Very disappointed, will try somewhere else next time we have something to celebrate.

We visited on Saturday for a late lunch with friends. We all had a great time. The food tasted divine, it was beautifully presented, fantastic value and portion sizes were good. We all ate from the lunch menu and had the 3 courses for £40....

As usual the food at the Chef's Table was fantastic and the service attentive but not overbearing.

I booked a table online that only showed availability at 12 or 12.15 when we would have preferred a later time. The restaurant was virtually empty until around 1.30. I don’t understand why online booking did not show full availability? The emptiness made the atmosphere a little flat. The service staff were excellent and food generally good - I suspect I personally chose something I didn’t in the end like but my guests loved their choices.

I'd been looking forward to my meal at Chef's Table; my partner had bought me a £100 voucher as a Christmas present. On arrival I was unimpressed by the dining room; it smacked of ikea and lacked much in the way of design or ambience....

Another great meal at The Chef’s Table! Met a friend for lunch, the service was relaxed and genuinely friendly and the food, as usual, was amazing.

Food was excellent, service great but the noise, particularly horrible 'music', was the one thing that would discourage me from returning. My recommendation to a friend would depend on the friend; a 19 year old yes, a 79 year old, probably not.

Really delicious dishes, as good as Chester can offer anywhere. We really enjoyed the the camembert & cranberry arancini, and the roast cod with pesto crust and shrimp & caper butter. Absolutely fabulous was the little scoop of cheesecake lime flavoured ice-cream topping the sticky toffee pudding, it's tartness cutting through the sweet toffee. Cooking was to perfection, and presentation delightful. Service was lovely, friendly and earnest, the waitresses and somelier particularly down to earth and helpful.

Very enjoyable lunch and probably the nicest Sunday lunch we've had in Chester, everything from start to finish was delicious and well cooked. The sommelier was was also very professional and attentive with the wine, can't wait to return.

Amazing as usual! First time in the new venue and it’s lovely. Started with the soup and chicken and then had Sunday Roasts - one beef and one vegan. Delicious and such a great portion! Had to try the vegan Eton Mess and that didn’t disappoint. Amazing wine list and the Muscadet was delicious! Thoroughly enjoyed everything! Well done Chef’s Table we love you!

This was my second visit to The Chefs Table, I loved it the first time, this time it was exceptional. If you're looking for a place to visit for a special occasion I would strongly recommend the Chefs Table. For four people with wine the bill was around £488.00, which is around an average price for this standard of food and service.

Our B&B; recommended this Pub because it was in walking distance, we were pleasantly surprised. It was an old-fashioned pub with a homey atmosphere. The food was delicious, and our server, Pat, and the cook, Sondra(?), were wonderful. We had salmon that was perfectly cooked with vegetables, and the sweets were tasty too! We were heading out the next day on a Narrowboat trip and they prepared us a large cheese & biscuit tray, and a generous helping of tasty mushroom soup to take with us. They were so helpful and kind. We highly recommend this pub for some good, not chain restaurant, pub food.

After a trip to Chester Zoo, we decided to go for food within walking distance of our BnB. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. We ordered the steak and fries with beef dripping. Food was delicious and cooked to each of our preferences. Would highly recommend to anyone who's in the area. Great food, great staff, and great atmosphere.

The Garden by Oddfellowslocation-icon20 Lower Bridge StreetBritish

Visited recently for the afternoon tea with santa with 2 children. Overall it was OK, seating area was nice and actual santa visit was very good. My main disappointment lay in the food and gifts that were given. Food was OK but tea and coffee was slow and usually quite cold. The gifts from.santa were the worst bit, for what we paid per person we expected more than one of ghe oddfellow elfs running down to home bargains on a budget. Labels even left on. Wouldn't do this afternoon tea with them again I'm afraid.
