Beautiful coffee shop situated in the heart of Helmsley The coffee shop was clean and comfortable and the staff were very friendly We were served one of the best coffees we have ever had!! I had cappuccino cake and the hubby had lemon cake, both were delicious! We highly recommend a visit to The Cocoa Tree if you are visiting Helmsley!

Visited Helmsley for the day with our dog and stopped in here for some lunch. Having been here before we knew the jacket potatoes were excellent as they have a potato oven. My wife ordered the one with beans and I had the cheese one. He gave the option of having the cheese melted which I took and it was perfect. Mine arrived with a nice side salad and coleslaw. My wife said her baked beans one was very nice and it had a very generous portion of beans. We also had a pot of decaf tea between us. Unlike other cafes they had given the bag a bit of a steep to ensure that when the tea arrived it was ready to pour. Overall the food and drink was excellent and great value for money. It was a lovely atmosphere and they were very friendly to us and our large dog. It was like being part of a family. Have been before, will come again.

2nd visit to this cafe and again it didn't disappoint. Its a very welcoming atmosphere and the menu is classic and varied with good sized portions and value for money. Its dog friendly and there is enough space between the tables as well. Well worth a visit if you are in the area

Visited Helmsley on a cold and wintery Tuesday and found a very warm welcome at the Cocoa Tree. The interior is bright, airy and very nicely decorated and furnished. The cafe serves a good selection of light meals, sandwiches, cakes and deserts. We had home made soup, baked potato with cream cheese and smoked salmon, served with a side salad. Then we had the Discovery fruit cake, made with apricots, ginger and brandy and served with a slice of Wensleydale. All was delicious and the owner was extremely friendly and helpful. Highly recommended. Would definitely return.

Went in today 28/11 for lunch while staying at a nearby hotel. I had Tuna & cheese jacket potato & my husband had a bacon baguette. Both dishes were of a huge size & absolutely delicious. The owners are lovely friendly people. They have many returning customers & the cafe was full the whole time & so many people came after us who couldn’t get seated. Prices every reasonable

We visited with friends for coffee which was excellent so much so that we returned for lunch which was again excellent. The surroundings are light and airy with really comfortable chairs. We were spoilt for choice from the menu and specials boards everything sounded delicious. The staff were all friendly and efficient and the food was superb. The star dish was the “Discovery fruit cake with Wensleydale cheese”. A special thank you for looking after us so well today.

I’m rather embarrassed to say, I’ve lived in the area for over 15 years and have only just found this gem of a cafe!! Friendly, good selections, good timing for orders coming out. Cumberland Sausage baguette …… lush!! Will defo be back after slapping myself for not visiting sooner!

We visited the Cocoa Tree in this lovely small town to get something to eat following a recommendation at our Airbnb nearby. With two dogs in tow the cafe was properly dog friendly. The owners were really welcoming including a sausage treat for the dogs. The dogs enjoyed it so much we ordered sausage and onion baguettes which came with a side salad and slaw. Filling, tasty and good value. We’ll definitely go back again when we’re next in the area.

Wow ... a real little hidden gem. After a visit to the Birds of Prey Centre nearby we dropped in for lunch. 4 of us each had something different off the menu. The service was fantastic , food came on time, beautifully presented , really fresh and reasonably priced. All the tables were in use and quickly cleared. Clearly the staff are passionate about good food and a great atmosphere. Thankyou !

Wow! What a find. Absolutely the best sausage baguette - EVER. Staff were tops, food so delicious. If we come back to England, this is a must repeat.

We stopped here on our way to our cottage, and enjoyed it so much we stopped again on the way back. Very warm and friendly welcome and very dog friendly. The coffee was excellent as was the bacon baguette. My wife chose a cheese scone which was delicious. Well worth a visit.

We were delighted to find this lovely attractive tearoom (with very comfy seats!) and had a cappuccino each plus two cheese scones which were served with a smile. The scones were delicious and we will definitely come here again on our next visit to Helmsley.

Fab little cafe, not a chain which is what we prefer. Made us feel very comfortable with our almost 2 year old and offered to amend her order to make it more toddler suitable. Food was lovely, milkshakes fab too. Will definitely be back!

A happy and welcoming space - delightful decor; lovely warm welcome; delicious food and enormous portions! We'll be back with the children for waffles in the summer.

We have visited before but a while ago and decided to come back again.. this time with my one year old! Even though they have no child facilities they were more than happy to let us have the pushchair inside and very friendly! Absolutely delicious food and lots of it. We go to Helmsley a lot and compared to the last two (very) local coffee shops found this place : fairly priced, friendly (smiles and efficient) relaxed and the quality, quantity and presentation of the food and drink .... absolutely perfect!Great service and surroundings! We can't wait to go again... there is nothing they can do to improve as far as we are concerned. Went for lunch Monday 11th. We both had quiche one with broccoli and one with ham. Came with salad, homemade coleslaw choice of chips or jackets. All food was excellent coffee was very nice. The gentleman serving was very helpful nothing too much bother. Excellent service and price. Social distancing adhered too sanitizer on entry and every table. Highly recommended

My partner and I popped in on Sunday, our second visit, for a bite to eat while visiting Helmsley for the day. We decided to have the cream tea for 2 and I have got to say the scone was the loveliest I have ever tasted, it just melted in the mouth absolutely beautiful. Also the owner was very chatty and friendly. We will certainly make a return visit.

We were looking for a place to eat lunch on a very hot Saturday and after reading the reviews decided to try The Cocoa Tree. What a find, a lovely air conditioned cafe run by 2 really friendly staff. We were told the outdoor area was closed as they are unable to social distance, the cleaning after each group had left their table was extremely thorough. We both had a quiche salad, very fresh and tasty and a generous sized portion. We didn't have room for cake or ice cream which looked equally delicious. Would highly recommend, please support this business right now as they have very limited tables available.Thank you

Just a little way along Castlegate, this small coffee shop is full of good drinks, good cakes and a good, friendly sense of humour. Excellent place for a cuppa and a cake.We enjoyed tea and a couple of ice creams (oh, if only I could have managed a cake or two) last week with unintrusive but well organised arrangements for Covid. nothing seemed to be too much trouble.Likely to return when next visiting, passing through or just making a detour.

We called in at this lovely cafe in Helmsley on our way to the coast. The gentleman who served us was pleasant, helpful and friendly. The background classical music was very soothing and an idea backdrop to a pleasant stay. I had a cheese and ham toastie that came with salad and crisps. My partner had cheese and broccoli quiche and it looked really nice too. We definitely recommend The Cocoa Tree to people coming to Helmsley.

Lovely friendly atmosphere, very relaxing. The Covid-safe environment has been thought ab1out and proper social distancing in place, yet it doesn't take away from the cosiness inside. The host was really friendly and the scones are immense. We'll definitely be coming back!

Fantastic local cafe, which offers a wide range of food, cakes, snacks and drinks - but the highlight is the ice-cream (the lemon curd was a particular favourite). The owners were really helpful and friendly, and excellent service.

We called in as we were passing through Helmsley. Immaculately clean inside, warm and welcoming, with very friendly service from who I think was the owner. We didn’t try any food / desserts (but they looked beautiful) but just had drinks. Coffee was excellent and a very pleasant change from the more “chain” coffee store. Got the impression that nothing would be too much trouble for them and everyone would be welcome. Really thought it was lovely.

We called for mid-morning drinks that were served as requested. The owner was very friendly and chatty, although we did not eat the menu looked good and well priced.

We arrived just before the cafe closed not realising we sat down and looked through the menu, they politely advised they’d stopped serving meals however although we were late we were welcomed. We both had the cream tea, I don’t drink tea and was offered an alternative which was great a very tasty freshly squeezed orange juice. The scones were delicious and soft and cake with clotted cream, jam and fresh strawberries. Lovely place and friendly people.
