The Dancing Midge Cafe in North Ayrshire

Been here many times and never had any complaints. The food is locally sourced and absolutely delicious. Nothing is ever too much trouble.

A quick pop in this morning for a breakfast, fast and friendly service. Full Scottish breakfast was amazing, the haggis is the best I've had and everything else was really very tasty. My wife had the French toast and crispy bacon and we shared a pot of tea. Sorry, I only have the one photo, I was too busy tucking into mine 😁

Great spot for a cuppa and light lunch. We popped in on Sunday and watched the weather change about four times, outside. Such is the weather in Scotland! I liked the white decor. Lovely staff and owner. They were quick and genuine and answered all our guests questions. Great chat; great fun. Nice selection of things to eat. Not expensive. We'll be back, very soon.

Aday on Millport island is relaxing to say the least.From the moment we walked off the ferry and on to the coach,we were aware of the leisurely atmosphere.We left the bus in Millport outside the Pier Hotel and walked the two mile promenade eventually stopping at the above cafe for a drink.We sat outside and waited for our drinks.Out came the owner with not only the drinks,but a general description of the history and the attractions on the island.The drinks were well priced,and well presented.

Great quality breakfast, super friendly service, dog friendly…..what more can i say. Millport is on the up if this cafe is anything to go by!

Seen good reviews for the cafe so we went in for breakfast. The service was very good and helpful. I can recommend the scrambled egg, bacon and toast. Good food at good prices.

Came for lunch with my family and friend and have to say it was lovely. Nice and clean with lots to choose from - toasties, soup, french toast, breakfasts, pancakes. MASSIVE scones too but didn't have the room to try them, maybe next time!

We arrived at the cafe with two very hungry boys who had just done the longest cycle of their life! The staff couldn’t have been more accommodating and the food was absolutely delicious. My 8 year old said it was the best lunch he’d ever had! The toasties were yummy and we really appreciated the homemade coleslaw and potato salad. Will definitely be back.

Great lunch today. Toasties with fantastic bread and great value. Well worth walking a few hundred extra yards towards Kames Bay for quality grub! Will be back.

Awesome brunch rolls - egg and sliced sausage plus haggis and sausage, mugs of coffee set us up for a stroll to see the nearby and very famous crocodile rock.

Popped in for a coffee and a scone. Despite being busy we were made to feel very welcome by the staff(owner?). Great coffee, fab scone and value for money. We’ll be back. Highly recommended if you are visiting Millport.

Popped in this morning for breakfast, first class!! Pancakes went down a treat, clean plates all round and the bacon rolls were awesome. Delightful owner, can't wait to visit again! Give it a try, you'll be missing out if you don't.

Really friendly cafe owner who was happy to take time for a chat about the island whilst serving a decent cup of coffee. Came back for lunch the next day as liked it so much. Sat outside the cafe and enjoyed the view over the bay, relaxing in the sun whilst having a fab lunch. Had a cheese and pickle toastie which came with some crinkle cut crisps, tattie salad, coleslaw and a cherry tomato side salad. Delicious! Highly recommend

In all the times we've visited here, we've never been left disappointed. The food is great and always freshly made, and the staff are friendly and polite and very welcoming. Service is always first class.

Went here for lunch today and was greeted by very friendly staff. A wee mix up with the order, but overall it was very nice. The fresh made baked scones and cakes were also very nice. Would recommend when visiting the Isle of Cumbrae.

Friendly welcoming family cafe. Breakfast was amazing and vegetarian options available. Also served oat and soya milk options 😀👍 Menu varied with specials daily. A definite for any vegetarians visiting the island.

On reflection, it is rather humorous that the owner stood about 30cm away from my husband, unmasked and talking directly into his face, to tell him very firmly and a teensy bit aggressively that we had to wear masks to walk the few inches between the door and our table. It’s a small place. The table was virtually outside. When we laughed about this nonsense (he wasn’t wearing a mask himself), he proceeded to give us a little lecture about turning up without a face mask. He carried on as we walked away, calling after us about our terrible behaviour. (!?)I got an anti-English vibe. Don’t turn up without a face mask, or maybe better still find somewhere else. We did, and it was great. Yum yum.

Lovely little cafe right opposite the beachfront. Stopped for coffee and the cheesiest cheese scones we’ve seen. Worth a visit if you’re on the island.

We had a great time at The Dancing Midge cafe today. The owner is a true credit to the establishment - he was friendly, helpful and even catered to our dog by providing her with a water bowl upon arrival. The food was great. Portions are of a substantial size and the menu is good value for money. Even though the cafe is small, they do offer a takeaway service which would be perfect for the beach.Please consider stopping here and helping a small business, especially after the events of this past year.

Great breakfasts and lunches, divine cakes, and a wee water dish for the dogs if you need it. A busy wee cafe that's well worth a visit :)

A polite and warm welcome we got in the cafe. It is clean and well maintained, the food was tasty and a decent menu was on offer.

Friendly and welcoming with fantastic service and great menu! Recommend the French Toast! Will be a regular stop when returning to the island in future. Be sure to avoid the stuffy Fawlty Towers-esque Millport haunts and support this fantastic team who truly appreciate the custom.

The owner is very friendly and helpful. A water bowl was put out for my extremely grateful dog. Our lunch was excellent and well presented. The restaurant is clean and beautiful with a lovely seaside feel. We will be regular visitors. Thank you.

We came here for breakfast on our trip to Millport. The menu has lots of variety for breakfast including bagels, french toast and fry ups. I had the midge breakfast which was a fry up with some toast. My partner had a breakfast bagel. Both were very tasty and not one bit greasy, great value. We also had two lattes and the coffee was nice and strong, I would recommend this place for a visit. Also we sat outside as the weather was lovely. The staff were very friendly

having lunched here yesterday the gentleman directed me to the public toilets across the road. I must congratulate Millport Council for the great toilet block It was very clean and tidy and didn't mind the 40p entry .

Lovely welcome, tables well-spaced out, exceptionally clean, fresh interior. Nothing was any bother at all. We enjoyed our delicious breakfast with a great view!

Spent today here in Millport.Beautiful day here weather wise however everything closed due to Covid. The Dancing Midge was open. We arrived there at 3.05pm and cafe was just closing. The owner accommodated us and served us grab giant hot dogs and coffee. Most enjoyable and we had the pleasure of the owners company which was great. I along with my son and daughter sat outside as the weather was great and it just made our day.Thanks again to this little cafe for such a memorable experience. I hope that next year might be back to some kind of normality to you and everyone concerned you deserve it.

Took the ferry from Largs and over to Millport for a breath of sea air. Stooped for a coffee at the small but excellent cafe. Spotted some home baking so indulged in superb cake and long forgotten empire biscuit. Very friendly and well managed under the present conditions. Hot food looked delicious too but too early for lunch. Walked off the calories on way back to the ferry. Happy days.

Called in for the all day breakfast after doing the inner circle walk on what was a very dreich day. We were very glad we did - both the service and food were excellent and the brunch so filling that we didnt need anything else for the whole day. The white painted walls of the cafe immediately make you feel brighter and warmer and the hanging dividers between tables and the other covid precautions make you feel safe. Our only mistake was sitting at the table near the door because the wind we thought we'd left behind kept trying to get in

Stopped off for a quick bite to eat before heading home from a weekend break and we weren't disappointed.The breakfast rolls were spot on, the service was efficient and the proprietor was friendly, chatty and made us feel very welcome.The cafe had been refurbished to a refreshing and good standard. Needless today that we will revisit this cafe on our next trip to Millport.

My boyfriend and I were recommended this place by my Uncle who has a house in Millport. Super friendly and charming welcome from the gentleman serving us. I had a delicious hot bacon roll, whilst my boyfriend had the full Midge breakfast. Everything was perfect and we would definitely return here. We sat outside and enjoyed the beautiful view across the water.

Always visit this cafe when in Millport. It has new owners and the food and service are still wonderful. They have adapted really well in light of the pandemic, spotlessly clean and screens between tables. The soup and cheese scone, paninis, scones, merangues are all amazing and the best french toast! Called in for lunch after reading other reviews. What a find! Husband had the Scottish breakfast, it looked amazing. I had homemade chilli con carne and our 6 year old had kids French toast with bacon & maple syrup which she devoured. The kids meals include a drink and either crisps or a biscuit for £3!! We finished with homemade cake. Utter bliss.This is such a welcoming little cafe, we were made to feel at home and nothing was a bother. Can’t recommend enough.

This fabulous little cafe was right up our street! Great breakfast that suited the whole family - roll and sausage for teenage daughter, cheese toastie for daughter with coeliac, full Scottish breakfast for dad and myself with an amazing french toast, maple syrup and bacon!! All made very promptly with a very friendly front of house!! Sad to see it’s up for sale but hopefully it will keep going for a wee while longer!!

On a sunny day. .. get Ferry + walk to Millport, to have appetite for big tattie wiv smoked salmon + cream cheese....superb lunch. Place is for sale so go soon + have a big pot of tea for two too.

My wife and I bought a property on the island and we quickly found this to be a fantastic cafe to eat in.The menu is varied from standard breakfast food to panini, toasties and a small selection of meals.My favourite is the French Toast, which is best I’ve ever tasted.Nothing is a bother to Moira the owner who is very welcoming.Only problem is it’s very busy as it’s so popular so be quick!!Never tried the scones but told they are amazing.Best cafe on the island and well worth a visit.

This outstanding cafe is situated in the perfect location for sitting watching the world go by (and the boats as it looks out over the Newton Sands Bay and Crocodile Rock. The team in the cafe cannot do enough for you and the menu caters for all dietary requirements and all ages. The food itself, you can tell it’s made fresh and is always a delight to eat.

Super lunch today, freshly prepared by friendly staff. Menu has plenty of choice, cafe can be busy at times but worth the wait!

8 of us popped in for breakfast. They managed to seat us all without a problem. Everyone of us enjoyed what we had and one even said probably the best omelette they’d ever had. Lady who owns it was very friendly as well. Would recommend eating here when visiting Millport.

This place is a lovely little find! We popped in after a lovely walk along the water and enjoyed a tasty lunch. The staff were very friendly and the manger was fantastic...the cafe does not take card payments and staff were very understanding when we found we only had our card with us. We were told just to ‘pop back’ with cash once we’d finished our lunch. Wow! Lovely place and our lunch was perfect...definitely recommend the cream cheese and salmon bagel!!! :)

This is a great place to go when you are in Millport.

Visited several times on our stay and everything we had from Toasted panini to a delicious ham salad roll to our breakfast rolls in the morning of sausage, egg and scrambled egg were fantastic.... staff were polite, helpful and courteous and before we left to return home we had to buy the delicious looking scones and empire biscuits!! Please please don’t sell!!! We hope to see you soon

We all think we know how to run a cafe but if you want to see excellent service great simple food and an atmosphere that makes you relax then this place has it all. Such a friendly welcoming cafe with excellent coffee and perfect for a family. With our son needing dairy free options they quickly and easily accommodated without losing any taste or value. We have eaten here many many times over the years and now list it as a main attraction of the island. We could do with many more cafes like this. A jewel in the isle.

Lovely wee tearoom in Millport selling tasty scones. It’s very small and cozy, so it becomes crowded very quickly.

On a beautiful Friday afternoon in Millport we planned, having been before, to have a cup of coffee and a scone at TDM. Arriving at just before four o clock we were told in no uncertain terms that the cafe was closed, despite there being people still in the cafe. No wonder the place is up for sale with service like that .

We really enjoyed this small cafe, which you come to as you enter the town of Millport from the East. The staff were very friendly, the coffee and scones were delicious and we were given a tray to take them out to the bench by the sea. The view from this cafe is one of the best in the town, looking over the harbour to Arann. There are lovely (locally maintained) toilets nearby.

Did last two mornings - service and food great, but owner of house so so off-putting and not friendly. Get dog out, sit down to get your order taken, wait until I need your business, no wonder she is stressed out and has her business up to sell.
