The food was nice, not exceptional. There wasn't any air conditioning in the restaurant so it was horrendously hot, we were given a bottle of wine on the house as we were melting. We couldn't come into the hotel via the main entrance as it was closed off due to wedding so were told to walk across the grass (in heels!), through the car park and through the back way. Not a great first impression.

We have been to the Hythe Brasserie no more than 2 or 3 times over the last few years and have always been mystified as to its popularity. When we went this week we were mystified as to why it wasn’t more popular! The new owner has massively improved the menu and the whole feel is more professional and welcoming. It seems that the quality and variety of ingredients now drive the menu rather than trotting out the same old same old for an unadventurous clientele.Definitely worth a visit or two to give the new regime a good try as Hythe really needs something new and different and the Hythe Brasserie absolutely fits the bill.We were so surprised by how impressed we were that we forgot to leave a tip. We will make up for that on our next visit.

Expensive, lacking in atmosphere as only two other tables occupied at lunch. Choice of desserts minimal and and paid £7 for a lemon meringue tart that was runny. Trying to run a fancy restaurant and cafe together does not work. It's a pity as the town could do with a decent restaurant but the menu does not work.

We were staying in Hythe for three nights to celebrate my 75th.birthday - and after researching restaurants ( on TA) - opted for the 7 course taster menu on the night of my birthday. Many of the ingredients ( the crab, turbot and lamb fillet) were superb - and the presentation of most dishes attractive - BUT - some examples - the tomato consomme was lacking in depth of flavour ( the only other diners in the restaurantcompared it to a bowl of lemon water provided to wash fingers- which was somewhat cruel)- the beetroot sorbet with the amuse bouche was frozen solid - whilst the crab wrapped in cucumber was good - the watermelon gave no balance of flavour. The ox cheek was overdone, and whilst the lamb fillet was excellent it cried out for a richer jus or sauce - and this current annoying habit of small drops of purees on the side of a plate - as with "smears" - drives me nuts! The puds were OK - but nothing exceptional.Jemma , ( and her Mother " under training") tried really hard - but the chefs need to raise their game to justify the excellent reviews they have received on TA.Shame - and I hope they do improve - but the price we paid was excessive for the quality delivered - and style won over substance.

Had been recommended to visit the Hythe Brasserie last year prior to the recent takeover and finally managed to get there tonight and we were not disappointed. We had the 7 course taster menu that came with a free bottle of Prosecco(Wednesday only). The food was amazing, presentation, taste and quality were unbelievable, some of the best food I’ve had and we’ve had plenty of experience! I would highly recommend this restaurant, the owner was friendly and engaging and the restaurant itself was lovely and intimate. Definitely be going back and would not hesitate in recommending to friends and family.

We were regulars at the restaurant when it was run by both previous owners, so it was a long relationship. We were waiting to see what changes the new owners would introduce, and we were not disappointed . Jemma, the new owner, has found an inspired chef and attentive staff. As we don't eat meat we went for the vegetarian tasting menu which was both innovative and delicious. I can still taste some of the dishes in my mind. Firstly, the staff are amazing. Attentive but never intrusive. Gemma and Sarah were wonderfully friendly and genuinely happy to explain every course and asked for feedback from every course. The flavours on every plate were distinctive and enjoyable. Some of the flavours overpowered the delicate flavours of the fish and crab but were still delightful on their own. The extra starter of squid ink tagliatelle was an added bonus. The crab was amazing (although not so sure about the watermelon part). The fish was exquisite and the smoked pork a triumph. So glad we tried the taster menu and had a little of everything. We will most definitely be back again.

However, I would recommend booking early because the place can get quite booked up. It is worth it through. A recommendation prompted us to try the Brassiere which has opened since my last visit to Hythe. Like most diners, we chose the tasting menu and each course was a pleasant surprise as the chef found creative ways to imagine the listed ingredients. The 5 course taster menus was more than enough as it included artisan bread and a complimentary starter dish. The wine list was limited but enough interesting wines to choose from. Staff were enthusiastic about their dining concept and did not rush us at all, even though it was quite late. This is not the cheapest option in Hythe but well worth trying if you want a memorable gastronomical experience.

We were part of the party mentioned in a previous review. We felt that for the price and the hype the food was okay but certainly not exceptional. Not everything on the limited menu was available. We have eaten in many fine dining restaurants and this didn't really compare. It was a bit style over substance and not the standard or quantity you would expect for the price paid. The flavours were good, service was okay but we wouldn't rush back. We really hope that they make a success of their restaurant as I'm sure they work hard and are passionate about what they're doing however it didn't work for us.

A family booking in late March was extremely disappointing. The menu had the minimum of description of what each course comprised of. The only potato option was “mash”!? We went for the ‘7 course tasting menu’ - which sounds ridiculous but we were correctly advised that the plates are small and the whole thing equates to roughly a 3 course meal. This was in fact preceded by a complimentary extra consomme’ (superb) accompanied by home-baked (of course) bread, garlic butter and fancy salt. This set the pattern for the evening - i.e. superb! Haven’t been treated to such stunning plates of food outside of France. Not surprisingly the place was well attended, and though the place is small and unpretentious there was a buzzy atmosphere of diners thoroughly enjoying their food (and maybe their drink too!).

First visit back to The Hythe Brasserie since it changed hands. We went in for the lunch and have to say that it was overpriced; rather poor, and complicated by unnecessary elements that had no place on the plate. The previous owners had created such an exceptional restaurant it is perhaps a little unfair to make the comparison. However if this one is to survive they need to up their game. Whereas, previously the restaurant would have been packed; yesterday it was less than half full. I also noticed that several people came to view the menu and then left. It is just too expensive. We certainly would not go back for lunch.......as things stand. I hope that this is taken in the spirit of "advise" and that the owner/chef responds.

I was happy to try the new style as was not keen on previous incarnation. visited on a saturday night, mostly busy, decor pleasing, staff very friendly and amenable. We could not manage the tasting menu but had starters and mains, scallops, oysters, mushroom tumbleweeds and venison, all lovely. There were also two amuse bouche which were also good. We thought it very reasonably priced for the quality and style of cooking. My only slight quibble is that I am a bit of a wuss with rich food and would have liked a lighter choice on the menu though this may come when menu reviewed in Spring! We were told when we booked that the new offer at this restaurant was aiming to be more high end than previously. We had always loved it under its former owners, and were very disappointed with the meal we had in its new guise. The food was poorly done, alas. Smoked salmon croquettes didn't taste of salmon at all but herbs (dill?), the steak in the beef wellington was supposed to be medium rare, but was actually over-done, while the pastry was undercooked, the belly pork was greasy, the vegetables were either raw (brocolli) or overdone (potato, onion), the sauce served with the (not) "spiced" cod actually tasted burnt. Desserts were ok, except the banana souflee was burnt on top

My wife and I have been to the Hythe Brasserie over the past 20 years and seen the various changes over this time. Previous owners Darragh & Nikki had a fantastic following. It as know been taken over by Jemma and her team and today was our first visit under the new ownership. We went for breakfast and the menu was varied with choices to please all tastes. We both had the Poached egg and Smoked salmon. It was to die for. One of the best I have ever eaten. When premises are under new management then invariably the decor will change. The attention to detail by Jemma and her team as transformed the restaurant and surroundings. Having looked at all menus again there are choices to suit all tastes and very reasonably priced. In addition they have a set lunch menu. 2 courses for £18 and 3 courses for £21 which includes a glass of house wine. I am sure that the regular customers will still return. The waiter was lovely and attentive however the meal we had was extreamly disappointing. The uninspiring menu led all three of us to order the same starter which was under seasoned, bland and only saved by the sauce. There was a long wait between our starters and mains. None of the main courses come with vegetables which have to ordered separately at huge cost and what arrived was not what matched the menu. All sides where completely under cooked, and half of them cold which meant where left on the table with our enthusiasm for this restaurant. The beef wellington lacked the mushroom pate and came with soggy, undercooked pastry which we could only imagine was made in the morning and left out all day to be quickly reheated. The very ordinary pork belly with raw celery on the side was a meal that could of been made better at home. To end we thought we could not go wrong with a chocolate mouse but even that was a disappointment, wrong textured and unindulgent. I noticed when heading to the bathroom that our coats which were knidly taken on arrival where in a pile thrown on the stairs next to the toilet. The finally knife in the back to what was meant to be a lovely evening was the arrival of the bill which almost caused a heart attack. The kitchen did knock off our purple sprouting which turned out to be cold undercooked ordinary broccoli. Overpriced, poorly executed and nothing that couldnt be cooked at home. This restaurant had big shoes to follow and used to be favourite, unfortunately it does not even come close and we will not be returning.

We have had many excellent meals here and so were delighted to hear that The Brasserie was to open on Sundays during the summer. There were 10 of us for lunch with the rest of the restaurant full to capacity. Everything was exceptional; the staff, and wow, the food I cannot recommend too highly. Just fabulous. THANK YOU.

Very good well priced food served by the friendly and lively patron. The home made chips were excellent. Also a very good range of drinks, not just wine. The restaurant’s decor is a little middle of the road and the location opposite a tattoo parlour is a challenge - but don’t be put off, it is well worth the detour.

We went for a celebration meal and the food was good as usual, it is however, very rich and the menu could do with some plainer offerings. The front of house was let down by the absence of its owner and attention to individual tablesl wasn't as good as usual.

Went for a quick lunch - was lucky to get a walk in table as it soon got very busy. Lots of specials and good choice from the menu. Everything was excellent - the fish and chips was sensational - 10/10. Friendly staff and very high quality. Recommended.

Last Friday we enjoyed the Tempura Prawns starter and the Brill Fillet mains. Two really good plates of delicious food with a deft touch at combining flavours to produce a lovely sauce. Well done Darragh!

My wife and I visited to for lunch. Although we have been to the Brasserie on numerous occasions. This was the first time for awhile that I was able to book a table. This as to be the best restaurant in Hythe and testament to this is trying to book a table. Our lunch was superb and it was nice to have a chat to Darragh before we left. You can ask anyone which is the place to eat in Hythe and they will always say ‘The Hythe Brasserie ‘. It’s well worth a visit even if you are disappointed the first time you try and book a table. The wait will be well worth it.

We had the chance to experience Hythe Brasserie on a short break to Hythe and we were not disappointed. Mid week two course/three course special at a great price. The service and food were amazing - we couldn't ask for anything better. Thank you!

On my third visit, but this time with my family from Panama. Nicki the owner managed to fit us in early, even though the restaurant was fully booked. Always excellent service, good food reasonably priced, and a warm welcome where nothing is too much trouble. Wished we lived nearer and it was our local!

We had 2 courses and wine and it was all excellent. Starters were potted crab & prawns and meatballs. Main courses were battered cod, chips and peas and chicken escalope with bacon & leek sauce plus vegetables. The Chilean Chardonnay (un-oaked) was good and reasonably priced. If we didn't live 40 miles away we would eat here most weeks.
