Finally visited The Kitchin after severs attempts to secure a booking and we were not disappointed! Lovely venue with professional, attentive staff. We opted for the prestige tasting menu with wine pairing...absolutely brilliant. A special mention needs to go to the vegetable and truffle course...sensational. We have eaten in a few top end restaurants now and this is right up there with the best! Tom Kitchin spent a lot of time with the diners which was nice touch. Very impressed all round.

We were at The Kitchin last night and as always the food was wonderful frome the sourdough bread to the rum baba and everything inbetween . We had the set menu with paired wines which was amazing ,but the added magic was speaking to the staff who were very welcoming and informative about all aspects of the food and wine, the young pastry chef in particular was joy .The highlight for me was meeting Tom Kitchin ,he went round every table speaking to people and was very happy to talk about where everything came from .Scotland should be very proud oh him and his staff ,we cant wait to go back

From the moment we arrived at The Kitchin we were treated to a very special experience. The service, food (we had the prestige menu which was amazing) and atmosphere was all outstanding. I have never tasted better lobster anywhere. Exquisite!! It was a lunch I will never forget as my other half proposed unexpectedly out of the blue after 10 years together which was very emotional for me so this restaurant will always hold a place in our heart and we will definitely return.Thank you to everyone for their service and impeccable knowledge. Nothing to say other than thank you. We really enjoyed it. It was expensive but worth every penny. A unique dining experience worthy of any foodie. Food and service impeccable. Tom Kitchen himself came out and served every table which he didn’t need to do. He gave every table their 5 mins which really was appreciated. I have eaten in many celeb chef restaurants and this was certainly a cut above the rest. Thank you Tom and all staff at the Kitchen.

This was quite frankly the best meal we have ever had!!We took our two children (8 and 11) for lunch at the Kitchin as we were visiting family in Edinburgh for the weekend and thought it would be a lovely treat. We arrived at the restaurant for lunch at 1.30 with a warm welcome from staff and were seated in the bar area which has just a few tables and a view of the river. We chose the tasting menu with the wine pairing for us, scallops and lobster for our 11 year old and the chefs made our 8 year old some garlic bread and tomato pasta, which was so kind of them. Nothing was too much trouble. Our tasting menu was absolutely fantastic, every dish and wine explained and beautifully complimenting each other, it was an absolute treat. What made the meal for me though was the way the staff spoke to and included our children within the whole meal, they enjoyed the amuse buche and were able to try some wonderful food. I’m so sick of restaurants only ever offering children chicken nuggets etc, this was an absolute breath of fresh air.We will be back!

My experience at Kitchin was exactly as I expected truth be told. The food was good generally and ingredients were as local as possible. The beetroot amuse bouche and carrots with ginger sauce being of particular note. It must be said that I ate the vegetarian menu but my partner ate meat and fish and he confirmed to me that he prefers the food at Andrew Fairlie at Gleneagles much more and Martin Wishart slightly more. The service at the restaurant was unfortunately rather slow and inattentive at times, some mistakes were also made with placing plates and taking them away.Ambience for my taste was rather too loud and this combined with the quite basic décor and lack of table linen made the evening quite uneventful. For this reason and the others above, I’d only recommend Kitchin to those who are looking for a more relaxed and casual fine dining experience while in Edinburgh.

I took the family out for a meal to celebrate my retirement. We were 5, we had the taster menu at £110 each , 4 of us had the wine associated wine flight at £70 each. It was a fantastic meal. My only real gripe was the small quantities of wine with each course especially considering it was £10/small glass. The food was generally fantastic. Sour dough bread and butter which was the best bread I have ever tasted. 2 amuse bouches to start, the 2nd was particularly noteworthy a beetroot and horseradish dish inspired by borche. Then we had scallops cooked in a white wine and cream sauce in their own shells, fabulous and my favourite dish. Beef shin on a bed of mushrooms which was very good. Then a halibut dish which while well cooked was strangely tasteless. Then a venison main with apple and quince which was delicious and beautiful. A predesert with panacotta and I think sea buckthorn which was delightful. The main desert was a apple crumble soufflé, which I didn't think worked well. So if the wine portions were larger I would have been completely satisfied. The total bill was £980 which is reasonable for an occasional treat.

We went for lunch Friday 15th October, as we were visiting Edinburgh. We were pleasantly greeted by front of house and showed to our table no. 32. We ordered drinks and food (set menu, 4 course) and asked for water. The server came with the water and poured some into our glasses. As I picked up my glass to take a sip, I noticed that where my glass had been strategically placed, there was a chip on the table!! It was bang in the middle of the table. I'm in a Michelin restaurant! It should be perfect. Stood out like a sore thumb! For starters we had the beef & snails and the cod ravioli & sm eel. The ravioli was very firm and not soft as expected. I needed my knife to cut it and it also required a little seasoning to bring the dish together. The beef and snails were well cooked and seasoned well. For the mains we both had the mallard duck. Well presented and the server explained our dish and finally poured the sauce onto our plates from a ceramic jug that had a huge chip on the pourer! That should not even be in the kitchen! What a poor standard! The mallard dish was lovely, though the shredded cabbage within the pitivier needed seasoning to make the cabbage sing as it tasted of nothing. Our cheese selection was ok, but was the choice of the server. To finish we both had the chocolate tart to finish. This was nice to finish with, light and fragrant. The ambiance of the restaurant was ok and the music only played now and again when someone remembered to put it on. We also had about 6-7 different servers come to our table for one thing and another, all very good, but were unable to know, who was actually attending our table and who to ask if we needed anything. This was our first time in Edinburgh and this visit/ meal should have been memorable, but it is for the wrong reasons. Sorry Mr T Kitchin it's the little things that make the big things good.

We both went with the tasting menu and wine pairing. It was an excellent way to explore the best Chef had to offer. I'm not sure if it's the signature dish or not, but we were very pleased to have the scallop served in its own shell sealed with puff pastry...a true delight for a scallop lover. Thomas Kitchin was on-site and made the rounds. He made us feel very welcome and was pleased to see us Americans again after such a long travel hiatus. The sommelier was also friendly and knowledgeable about the pairings. When my wife mentioned she wasn't a fan of dessert wines for the final course, he quickly replaced the sauternes with champagne.

Overall a lovely afternoon at The Kitchin. This was our second visit and we loved it just as much as we remembered from last time. The amuse-bouche and appetisers were absolutely delicious and stood out despite not technically being on the “set lunch menu”. It’s a joy to eat at such a cosy and relaxing restaurant with wonderfully attentive staff and chefs who actively explain the components and flavours of each dish as they come out to the table. I was a little disappointed with my main which was poached fish with a crab and sea buckthorn sauce. It lacked any variation in texture and was not our favourite in terms of presentation (see photo), but the flavours were still nice. We would highly recommend The Kitchin as a lovely place to celebration an occasion. Thanks for helping to make our fifth anniversary a fab one!

One disappointment was that there was no vegatarian options and one of us struggled slightly especially with the starters. The Roe deer was gamey and a very large portion. On moving to Scotland in June we had promised ourselves a meal in The Kitchin. We had to wait three months for a table and then a 90 minute drive, but the meal was well worth it. I had wagyu beef tartare to start with and my partner had scallops. The scallops were the best we had ever tasted, while the beef was rich and ever so tasty. The added treat was that Tom Kitchin himself came out to serve the course. Our mains were halibut and hare. The halibut was light and creamy served well with fennel, while the hare was very rich and gamey. Pear on croute with salted caramel sauce, barley and ice cream was a suitable dessert. Not only was the food top notch, but the service and atmosphere were also first rate. Well worth the trip and the wait.

We have been to a few Michelin restaurants but I have never been served by the main chef in any of them till we got here! I must say I was star stuck and I was not expecting to see Tom Kitchin during a Wednesday lunch service! Those staff much me so happy to have their mentor there to guide them and to lear from him. He came across as being such a nice guy! But let's talk food! The scallop was the best I have ever had and was such a nice surprise to have it opened at the table! The amuse bouche had my favourite ever flavours of horseradish and beetroot and I hope we can book again to try those flavours as were really good! And let me tell you about the apple crumble souffle! My god! I was eating it so fast that i was inhaling the powder sugar hahah. I love my banking but I wouldn't dream of baking such a perfect souffle! We are very fortunate for being able to enjoy so many great meals but I would definitely like to return for more reasons than one!

I decided to treat my parents to this restaurant and really wish I hadn’t! They both had the scallop starter and we did notice that they looked a little pink but since Tom Kitchin himself had brought them out and served them to us we assumed this was how they were meant to be. My parents also both had the Roe Deer main whilst I had the Hare. Our bill came to £380 for our 3 chosen a la carte courses and our drinks - 2 cocktails, 2 wines, 2 dessert wines. That night my dad started to become unwell with food poisoning symptoms and then a few hours later my mum experienced the same. They were both very ill for a few days and although there’s no way to prove it, it’s very obvious that this lunch was to blame. Not exactly the kind of “treat” I’d hoped to spend that amount of money on.

This was a belated birthday treat for me and what a fantastic experience it was. From the moment we walked in our coats were checked by a very courteous friendly member of staff who walked us over to our table where a hand written card awaited me signed by Tom Kitchin! What followed could only be described as a gastronomical delight as each course was described to us by one of the chefs with the highlight being The Boss himself bringing over our fish course and describing in great detail how it was cooked where the fish has been caught and which chef had cooked it. It was an amazing experience which will live with me for a very long time. The restaurant itself is so tastefully decorated with such a warm atmosphere. The whole team are so well informed about the food, the drink and the ethos of the restaurant so friendly and professional will definitely be making a return visit. A visit to The Kitchin was on the ‘must do’ list for our visit to Edinburgh and it did not disappoint, proving to be one of the foodie highlights of our trip. The restaurant is larger than it appears from the front, with a buzzy yet still cosy vibe. The decoration is refreshingly understated and reflects the restaurant’s philosophy ‘nature to plate’. We opted for a leisurely set seasonal lunch menu. At the start, you are given a map of Scotland showing where the main ingredients are sourced. The amuse-bouches were super light and tasty the perfect start. We both had Tom’s iconic seafood starter – scallops, mussels, clams, and octopus with a vegetable ragout, prettily presented to look like a rockpool. Next came a really well flavoured, perfectly cooked steak for me, plus a beautifully prepared, succulent monkfish for hubby. We both finished with a stunningly well-risen strawberry souffle, greatly enhanced by the accompanying sorbet. The wine pairing worked well. The front of house staff did a marvelous job, from the warm welcome to the ordering of our taxi. They were friendly and informative, although the number of different serving staff and wearing of masks did detract a little from the experience (in particular, we struggled to hear what the Sommelier was saying). We were most impressed by Chef Tom himself. Apart from designing the brilliant menus, he was visibly ‘hands on’ in the kitchen and took the time and trouble to introduce one course to each guest. This personal touch is often lost as chefs take on more restaurants (Tom has another two nearby) and gain ‘celebrity status’. Not so here – Tom’s continuing passion and commitment to The Kitchin and its ethos really shines through. Please don’t change as this is one of the things that really sets you apart!

The food as excellent and highlighted locally sourced ingredients. But the vibe was just a bit overdone and a bit too elaborate for my taste we had multiple people serving us and sometimes coordination was a bit bumpy. With regards to the food the pre amuse-bouche was delicious, the amuse-bouche was amazing, the starters were excellent, the deserts were superb but the two who had cheese plates would have loved a choice of cheese. As far as the mains go there was one slight issues, the two with steak found it cooked perfectly but either needed a sharper knife or a slightly more tender piece of meat. In particular the fennel was a delightful surprise and the pecan on the dessert was so Christmassy and delicious it have me goosebumps. We visited at lunchtime for the "Surprise Tasting Menu", and enjoyed every bit of it, from the prawn and lobster amuse-bouche to the souffle . Presentation was beautiful, great quality ingredients, and the dishes were fresh and tasty. My particular favourites were the roe-deer venison, and the apple-crumble inspired souffle. My dining companion made a few requests regarding things he would prefer not to eat, and the staff were happy to arrange alternative dishes for him at appropriate points. There is a good wine list, with a number of wines by the glass, for those who do not want to opt for the recommended accompaniments to the meal.Staff were polite, friendly and helpful. We were given plenty of time to enjoy our meal, and at no time did we feel under pressure to move on. The restaurant was full, so it had a good, happy, atmosphere. The one thing which irritated me was that a couple who sat at a table adjacent to us sat and watched a video on a mobile phone, so we were subjected to shrill slavic jokes and laughing for quite a while: I hoped that one of the staff would ask the couple to turn down the volume, but they didn't, so I eventually had to do this myself.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the taster menu. The quality and number of courses kept on coming and getting better and better. The highlight was the Lamb but everything was outstanding. As I have a food intolerance this was accommodated (as I'd expect) but without any loss on the quality of the substituted course.Be aware of the quantity and cost of the wine. No real complaints but just be aware. The service was exceptional and every waiting staff member was fully able to deliver the explanation of each course and its ingredients'. The room itself was quite noisy and made conversation difficult at times, and whist not expecting to eat in silence, it was a little less than intimate. This was a romantic special birthday present for my wife during a celebration visit to Edinburgh and an opportunity to experience Tom's food, which was made even more special with the sight of the man himself working in the kitchen.Well worth the money and Highly Recommended

My partner had been wanting to go to The Kitchin for many years so, also knowing its excellent reputation, we had high expectations. But I left being somewhat disappointed. Not because the food wasn't excellent but because the service wasn't sufficiently up to scratch for an experience that is not at all cheap. I don't mind paying for great experiences but this one just didn't click. Our table was for 2:30pm, so the last of the lunch serving and I think that worked against us. Some things arrived very quickly, some things needed asking for. You don't expect this in Michelin starred places.I'm not saying don't go. But I am recommending that you don't go at the end of a service. If you do, be prepared for a certain level of disinterest.

The food is presented superbly and the flavours exceptional. Flavours that you don’t normally get and very fresh that work so well together.. Overall a magical experience that will blow you away with flavours.. To start, the food was good. My brothers lamb starter and my Cod main dish were up there with some of the best equivalents we have had. However, as a total meal, the food was nice, but not as good as we have had at other restaurants or even at The Kitchin previously, but certainly no complaints. The service overall was let down by a few, who either couldn't be bothered or simply arrogant - not what you expect from a top restaurant. For the dessert, the matched wine arrived 30 minutes before the food and we had finished them before the food came, not even asked if we would like another glass. Frustratingly, I asked how long the dessert would be as I would have ordered another drink whilst we waited, but was told they were called - but the pre dessert took 20 minutes from that point. We were also placed at a table next to the bar which the bar tenders were constantly having to top up the ice, shake cocktails and bang bottles around. Not The Kitchin's fault as appreciate they are trying to make the most off the space with social distancing but didn't make for the best ambiance. Overall, slightly let down on what was meant to be a birthday meal for my brother.

For us The Kitchin has long been a wish list destination. So with a 30th Wedding Anniversary trip to Edinburgh planned, it was a real possibility? We checked the online reservation daily and were delighted to get booked in whilst we were there. From the moment we walked into the beautiful calm and tasteful surroundings we knew we were in for a treat. As we were seated we found a hand written card from Tom Kitchen wishing us a Happy Anniversary - what a lovely touch we were made up… We chose from the À La Carte menu and were given a few amuse-bouche before our starters arrived. We chose Hand Dived Scallops followed by Roe Deer - oh my days - can honestly say we have ‘never’ eaten food of that quality the flavours were extraordinary it was utterly divine. We sat there looking forward to our dessert, when our waiter came over asking us to go with him to the kitchen as ‘Chef’ had a little surprise for us? There we were, sat in the kitchen, when Tom Kitchin came over to greet us and presented us with a ‘pre dessert - dessert’ He was utterly charming. We sat and had a chat and a pic before going back into the restaurant for our delicious dessert. The whole evening was just an amazing experience which we will never forget so we must thank the lovely attentive staff and of course Tom for making our Anniversary so special and unforgettableThank you! This was a long anticipated visit back to The Kitchin. Thankfully, with lockdown easing things at The Kitchin appear to be getting slowly back to normal. There is still social distancing with the bar area being used for tables. We were on the Surprise tasting menu which we were delighted to see had changed from previous visits. It was excellent along with the matching wine flight. Service was attentive and professional. I can’t fault the experience and that’s why we get back often as we can for special nights out.

We chose the 3 course lunch with wine to complement each course. With a couple of small samples thrown in free. All courses were excellent & beautifully presented. The wine server & food server were excellent providing just the right amount of information. A special note on the table wishing us happy anniversary along with a visit from the man himself giving all diners a polite chat & photo opportunity made a special occasion even better. Finally ended up on the terrace with new friends who overheard it was our anniversary and invited us to join them on the relaxing terrace for a drink. Great day out.

I lived in Edinburgh about 30 years ago. The last place that Tom Kitchin would have opened a restaurant then would have been Leith. The fact that he has suggests that the gentrification of this dock area is now complete. The majority of the produce is sourced within Scotland and a map is provided to tell you where. The Kitchin certainly delivers against it’s Michelin Star rating. The minimalist decor is mirrored by the exquisitely assembled plates. The set menu offers great value and we mixed and matched with a few desserts off the à la carte. I started with the seafood and bisque dish with a squid ink tuile. The bisque slightly overpowered the delicate tomatoes and seafood but was smooth and robust as you would expect. I know that Tom is known for his sea-food, and others in my party reported that their fish was excellent. I however opted for the roe-deer wrapped in pancetta and foie-gras and baked in a delightful puff pastry parcel. It was quite superb and matched with various in-season beetroot and chard. The foie-gras probably added flavour but may put off some diners. To finish I had the gooseberry soufflé which was as light as a cloud with delicious vanilla ice cream. Others in my party had the salted caramel and pecan pie and espresso panacotta. This is a very good restaurant clearly still doing well after the lockdown. Book now to a avoid disappointment!

Sadly not a great experience. With £150 of gift vouchers we could not get a meal for 2. Decided to go for the full tasting menu and also splash out for the wine as this was a birthday celebration. The food was good quality but some dishes clashed and wine option was poor. Very fast service at start being rushed, then so slow we were well over 3 hours eventually and struggling to get any staff attention.Cutlery was not clean and portions so small you needed all the bread they bought out. Felt there was no atmosphere, no music and no staff interaction. Definately a stressful atmosphere. For £360 for a meal for 2 you expect a lot more. Finally they knew it was a 60th birthday celebration and not even a mention.

Possibly the finest restaurant meal we have ever had. From arriving at the venue to returning to our car we were looked after superbly. Every single member of the waiting staff we encountered was friendly, polite, knowledgeable and extremely good at their job. We were two couples both celebrating silver weddings. The cards from Tom Kitchin were a nice touch. We all ordered the surprise tasting menu. Every element of every course was superb. We particularly enjoyed the scallops , beautifully cooked to melt in the mouth in a delicious broth sealed in the shells with buttery pastry. We were repeatedly incredulous through all eight courses that such flavour was achieved with the ingredients whilst maintaining beautiful balance. Another highlight was the substitution to avoid fish for one of our party. The alternative vegetable dish with white truffle was truly outstanding. The knowledge and care taken by our sommelier for those with the additional wine pairing was interesting and not at all intrusive. I recommend this restaurant wholeheartedly. It was an exceptional evening in every respect. We all hope to return.

I've been wanting to visit a Michelin star restaurant ever since I became addicted to reality cooking television and Tony Bourdain's acerbic take on everything food-related. However, the thought of a restaurant with a dress code makes me twitch (except for shoes+shirt=service). Fortunately, The Kitchin neatly provided a Michelin opportunity without passing judgment on our smart casual fashion choices. There are over a thousand online reviews that fairly accurately assess The Kitchin's food. Quite simply, it's better than good, but you don't need me to tell you that. (You need to try the scallops, though. Just trust me on that one.)What makes this place tick is the experience factor. Of course all of the food was presented thoughtfully, even artfully. It's the staff that are really above and beyond. They were all so welcoming, friendly, and helpful, especially to us fish-out-of-water, that they really made the visit sing. It's incredibly sad to read the allegations from former staff about abuses and we considered cancelling this visit in response. Since it's something we'll never do again (ok, 'most likely' never again because this would be way too expensive a habit to continue) we went ahead with it, and I'm glad we did. You'll have an amazing time if you come here. Just make sure you take care of your staff -> they work very hard to make everyone feel right at home.

We had the surprise tasting menu (without the optional cheese course) at £110 per head and with 1x G&T, 1x glass of champagne, 1x glass of house white the total bill was £263.We had a pleasant evening enjoying lovely service and a really nice environment. The cost was roughly what we expected but unfortunately the food was just nowhere near what you would expect at this price point.I have to be fair to the chefs and say that of the 8 dishes we were served (including hors d’oeuvre, amuse bouche and little ‘one bite’ sweet treat that they serve after dessert) four were very tasty (shrimp hors d’oeuvre, pea veloute, scallops and dessert of salted caramel tart). I should add though, that the scallops were a little over cooked which is surprising in such an establishment, but the sauce they came with was lovely,. Unfortunately the other 4 dishes were so average that I was actually really shocked. We kept saying to each other that it was similar to the food we get at our local gastro pub which costs around a fifth of the price, gives much bigger portions (note I did not expect bigger portions as I know it’s a tasting menu, but just mentioning for value comparison), and to be honest I don’t even think said gastro pub is anything special. The beef ‘jacobs ladder’ dish was VERY dry and completely tasteless. The halibut dish was also extremely bland and was served with baby leek that you could not even cut through with the blunt knife provided as it was so stringy. I spent 15 minutes trying to remove the strings of leek from my teeth. The roe deer was also very very uninteresting and lacking in flavour. Not a single element of food on the plate had any flavour and what I was excited about going into this meal was all the wonderful flavours I thought I was experience. To have the three main courses have barely a noticeable flavour between them was so very disappointing and I am gutted at the wasted £263 which I would have happily spent if it had lived up to expectations.Perhaps they are struggling post COVID after being closed for so long. If this is the case I do sympathise, of course, but what a real shame to have such an average meal in such a prestigious restaurant. If you go, I would probably recommend just ordering something you fancy from the a la carte rather than doing the tasting menu. Hopefully some of the dishes have a bit more flavour and you will save a few pennies.

My partner and I visited The Kitchin during level 2, or maybe level 3 lockdown? It's hard to keep track! In any case, it was at a time where it was forbidden to serve alcohol, which was a real shame! I do wonder if this review is 4 stars, rather than 5, for that reason... I'll definitely be back though, so if that is this case I'll make sure on posting another review to correct that error!Despite not being able to sample some of the restaurant's delicious wines, we still had an incredible meal. The food is just so fresh it sings... You even get a little map to show where it all comes from. My partner had the deliciously soft and sweet hand dived scallops. She loved them but regrets not going for the "spoots" (razor clams). She followed this with the turbot, which was devine and perfectly cooked! (I know, I tasted it).I had the pigs head and langoustine - wow, that is absolutely amazing. If I had one complaint it would be that that the seasoning was a little heavy handed. I had the venison for my main. Again, perfectly cooked, succulent, and mouth-wateringly tasty. It's the attention to detail with the cooking here, along with the freshness of the local, seasonal Scottish ingredients that just pushes things to another level, along with a relaxed dining experience. The staff was excellent, and our French waiter (sommelier with no drinks to pour?) was hilarious and so friendly. Tom himself even checked in to ensure we were enjoying ourselves. My partner was away at the time and furious when she got back that she'd missed Chef! I don't want to bang on about it, but it would have been 5 star with the paired drinks... and I feel bad because that's not the restaurant's fault! But as I said, we'll be back again for the full experience. :)

Firstly this was a gift or we would not have visited due to recent news how staff were treated and their tips being docked. Most front of house and waiting staff were not wearing masks, against what is stated in their Covid statement, when queried informed that these staff were exempt. Why are they exempt? It was their own choice, and cant be asked why that is their choice. The food was okay, but nothing special - a rare combination of both under seasoning, and over salting. The potato risotto was in my opinion undercooked, but my wife tried it and said it was ok but she likes veggies to be al dente. The halibut was ok, over salted and very small. I don’t mind paying good money for good food, but this was pricey for ok food. The gooseberry soufflé tasted of unsweetened egg, and not much else. A big spiders web with a dead daddy long legs above our head added to the underwhelming ambience. Our main waiter despite no mask was very nice. And gave tip in cash in the hope it would go to the staff not the owners.

The little touches of the canapés, amuse bouche and pre-dessert helped to complete the meal. The staff were friendly and described the dishes well, the sommelier being the most enthusiastic. Service was a little slow to begin as we joined at the tail end of the lunch sitting. All the food was well cooked and presented well - as you would expect! We even had the pleasure of a quick chat with Tom Kitchen himself as he came a made the effort to speak to some of this diners whilst still actively working in the kitchen clearly overseeing the quality of the dishes being served. This makes a welcome change to see as many high end restaurants bearing the name of successful chefs rarely see said chef in the kitchen let alone come and talk to their customers. We booked a table here to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary and we were not disappointed. We ordered the 3 x course set lunch but were also treated to additional 'nibbles' along the way. Personally I ordered dishes that I had never tried before like the venison but when in Scotland why not?But what topped the day was when we were personally invited into the kitchen to meet Tom himself and were served with an additional dessert of the highest quality. He was a lovely man and fully appreciated the praise we bestowed upon him. We also had our photograph taken with him as a momentum too!Must also mention the high quality of service of the staff, they were very friendly and very professional. Not once did they have to ask who had ordered what and the description of what we were about to eat was exceptional.Personally I can't wait to revisit the restaurant hopefully not having to wait another 5 years of wedded bliss to do so!!!

Visited on a Friday lunch. We were seated in what felt like a bar area rather than the restaurant but - perhaps my error on booking? Therefore we did not have any views of the “kitchen” itself. One to note if you did want these views, perhaps call in advance to check where your table might be!Menus were accessible by QR code, which takes you to a google doc however the lunch menu was not on there, so when I queried it we were presented with book style menus.Overall the food was tasty. Small portions. Perhaps we should have been advised to order some sides. We did leave feeling hungry and for the price you pay, I think you shouldn’t leave feeling like this. Perhaps dinner portions are larger. If you would like an alcoholic drink, you will be paying over and above for it. A glass of white wine was £16 for 175ml. The sommelier and what looked like general manager did not wear face coverings, however all other staff did. This felt hierarchical, perhaps they were exempt? It didn’t bother us but it may bother some people who are more cautious/concerned about covid restrictions. When clearing the table, the male member of staff looked at my male partner and asked him directly if he would be watching the football tonight “sir”. Although friendly to do so, we couldn’t understand why he would assume that only the male at the table would be interested in sport when there were two of us seated? Other than this odd instance, we found the staff to be friendly and attentive. I have since seen some ex staff members coming forward to say they have been mis treated while working at The Kitchin. I would not consider returning or recommending until I am confident this matter has been fully investigated and dealt with appropriately.

My wife booked this for a treat on my big birthday. We had the ‘basic’ tasting menu and was not disappointed. The staff were also very accommodating. My wife doesn’t eat shell fish and they happily replaced those courses with other options. I had the selected wines with each course, whilst my wife had a couple of glasses of superbly recommended white wine. I won’t go through each course but will say that all were special and created one of the best restaurant experiences we have had.

What a find! First class hospitality in an absolutely beautiful building. We felt like royalty. The room was spacious and very tastefully furnished. As is the entire place. I cannot recall having breakfast in a more elegant space. Kate and Beth helped to make our stay a truly memorable one. Our first city break in Edinburgh and certainly not our last. I can’t imagine staying anywhere else when we next visit.

I never leave reviews, but simply had to following our recent, unplanned visit here. Staff where friendly and knowledgable, the surrounding are modest complimented by a warm welcome and good atmosphere. Food - the best seafood we have ever had. We ordered the Mussels, Surf & Turf & linguine. Portions were huge! Topped off with the house white, it was a fab meal. Will defo visit again on our next trip.
