Loved the afternoon tea with family. Food, drinks and service all top notch 👌

We have been here a few times for dinner, and it never disappoints. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. The extra touches like live music, and coffee served in the lounge, make it a bit more special than many other restaurants.

Wonderful Dinner for 6 people at the Marcliffe.We were lucky enough to be one of the first to try the new menu. It proved to be varied and well put together. The starters arrived to a chorus of oohs and aahs, the attention to detail on the plates was outstanding.Not a morsel of food left on all 6 plates,I still think I chose the best starter being the soufflé,absolutely divine. A correct amount of time elapsed between courses to allow for conversation at the table. The Mains arrived and what a show on a plate,absolutely amazing. The food was delicious and the service was impeccable. A wonderful evening had by all,thanks to the chefs for a memorable meal. .

Great venue for a wedding. Friendly staff, plenty of spots for photos and a dedicated dance floor area for the evening reception!

This was a very average (at the best) rating. Ceasar salad was terrible! The steaks which I’ve heard are very highly recommended, not matured, or dry aged, none were cooked properly! Only 7 people in the restaurant…says it all. Will not be back

The permanent staff were absolute gems helpful pleasant smiling. Lovely room and comfortable bed all great as one would expect plus the extra Lovely staff. Would stay here again but not for a function unless you want to dance on a postage stamp, when I expected a more formal event. Obviously the hotel cannot be responsible for behaviour of guests and children. However the service also fell below what is expected of 5 star with the unhelp part time or temporary staff for the nights. No where near the standard of the charming usual staff, who all made a huge effort, which would encourage me to stay again but not attend a function.

Lovely Christmas Eve stay .Nice spacious,clean room and bathroom .If being super fussy it could be doing with a refurb as beginning to show signs of wear as were the corridors leading to the room.Liked the separate shower and bath. Nice touch of Christmas Goodie bag in room.Drawing room bar experience lovely as pianist playing .God range of cocktails Food is excellent Both at dinner and breakfast on Christmas day . Would recommend.

Attended a wedding and could not fault any aspect of the occasion. Bedroom was very comfortable. Bar prices are not cheap but overall experience was positive.

My family say that I do nothing but complain. That's sort of true - when I pay good money for a restaurant, I expect to enjoy the food. Unfortunately, since moving to Aberdeen eight years ago, I have only found one goodish restaurant (Chaopraya). Now I have found a restaurant that is maybe the best I have ever experienced - anywhere. To start with, the staff are excellent. Attentative, without being over-attentive (a difficult balancing act) whilst also being friendly and humorous. The food was absolutely outstanding. As a party of eight, we had a varied selection from the festive menu. None of our party were less than blown away by the food. Perfectly cooked, and my roast fillet of beef was so melt in the mouth, as well as being perfectly medium rare. Most five star restaurants are big on presentation and parsomonious on quantity. The Marcliffe presentation is certainly not amazing, but their portions are large and the food superb. I was driving so abstained, but the ladies loved the cocktails. I will certainly be a regular there from herein

Beautiful location, excellent decoration. Our choice of food was just very unfortunate. Sea trout with vegetables and rice swimming in a soy water that was supposed to be soy glaze. Shame! They did their best to compensate us with a lovely birthday surprise at the end and with a big discount. We really appreciated but we are still disappointed for a really tasteless dish. Sure they can do better. Hopefully next time ....

My husband’s and I stayed at the Marcliffe for 2 nights because he had had a good experience there previously. While we could over look our hot and stuffy room because of the unusually warm weather, we couldn’t over look the long, dark hallways and the less than helpful staff. The final straw came when the pants I had sent out to launder did not come back and somehow I was the one in the wrong even though my pants are gone. The restaurant food was very good but inconsistent service was a problem. All in all, it was a very disappointing experience.

In July we paid our 3rd visit (in 4 years) to this unique hotel. Although around 3 miles from the centre of Aberdeen it is set back in a secluded elevated position in an "Oasis of calm" i.e. NO traffic noise. The decor is as immaculate as on our first visit and the staff are pleasant and highly efficient as on our previous visits. DB&B rate is excellent value as it is includes the a la carte dinner menu, with a supplement for a 10 oz Fillet or Chateaubriand or the seafood menu. We cannot wait for an excuse to return!

If you like a cold Sunday roast this is the place to come to. We were taken here for luncheon by a family member so didn’t want to complain. The staff are lovely, location lovely and the decor lovely. Lovely prices too! Cheese soufflé for starter was cold. Roast beef was very rare. I will gladly eat a steak without cooking it but this was bloody and cold. Plates were cold and only a small amount of cold veg under the two slabs of oozing meat. Had 4 glasses of wine but in hindsight we should have had the bottle which would have been £20 cheaper. Wish the staff had told us but it’s our fault I suppose. Overall a disappointing experience for a lot of money.

The Marcliffe has always been first class for many years under the leadership of the owner I had heard, alas he has retired and things have changed, not a lot just a tweak here and there. On entry into the lounge the service is on point with your order for drinks taken and delivered within minutes alongside olives and potato chips. My Bloody Mary was perfect but for the celery stick missing but no ice in the glass as I requested made for a delicious satisfying drink. Champagne for my friend followed by vodka tonics for me all perfect, no complaints. A beautiful table large enough to hold a few plates I did love instead of the usual smaller table in many places. Lobster Bisque with a seafood ravioli was stunning although a few bits of shell within the ravioli but easily sorted and I know first hand how difficult it is to sift through lobster meat looking for purity. Balmoral bread made fresh on the premises is so very good malted brown nutty deliciousness with salted butter. I could have kept eating it as so good. My scallops I thought quite small and the accompanying braised chicken wings a strange choice I would have preferred them deep crispy fried but they were tasty enough. I had wanted the Alaskan King Crab legs but they were no longer on the menu to my disappointment they were incredible the last time I had visited a few years ago. An 8oz and a 10oz fillet steak one medium and the 10 meant to be medium rare arrived well done, it happens. The back up service to replace it was second to none and sorted within minutes seasoned and so tasty the best steak I’d tasted for a long time. Normally I’d have rib eye but changed it as friends had been in and had the fillets, stating how good they were. The quality was superb as was the bernaise that accompanied it, so often it’s not that good but this was so very good and matched the service. Brocoli in a hollandaise equally superb as were the chunky chips I requested although not on the menu, I detest skinny fries normally bought in frozen but these went down a treat and easy to see they were homemade thick well cooked, coloured salty chunky chips. A large glass of Chilean Malbec chosen by the Sommelier, his choice was delicious. A bowl of ice cream standard vanilla chocolate and strawberry a great palette cleanser and a mint tea finished it all off. I love the open kitchen watching these professionals working away doing what they do best. The Marcliffe staff are the best I have had the pleasure of for many a year, polite, knowledgeable about each dish and answering any question asked of them. It’s in the blood of the Marcliffe and although the menu somewhat changed since my last visit pre pandemic it may be run by a new team but has all the makings of still being a major contender in the best quality cuisine with what they have to offer.

Visited The Marcliffe for lunch in the Drawing Room on May 22nd, everything from entering the gardens and hotel was absolutely perfect, the Drawing Room was stunning. Staff were immaculately dressed and all spoke to me, Russell the Barman was exceptional in providing great service in what was a very enjoyable lunch. Thank you for providing such great hospitality.

We stayed at The Marcliffe for a few nights while on a trip with our adult children and spouses. Two of the nights we ate in the restaurant and everything we had was fantastic. All of the staff were friendly and very attentive. The meals varied as there were 5 of us but we all thoroughly enjoyed our choice for the evening. Cocktails in the lounge were fantastic with Invery House being our go to choice most evenings. The bartender Russell was a pleasure to chat with in between customers. Breakfasts were wonderful as well with a good menu to choose from. We all agreed that even if we were not staying at the hotel, we would enjoy eating there again!

My husband and I visited the Marcliffe to celebrate his birthday. The Marcliffe has always been our favourite place for a special meal. We were not disappointed, we were greeted at the entrance and shown to a table in the sumptuous drawing room for pre-lunch drinks. Our meal in the gorgeous conservatory was excellent. Our waiter was attentive, friendly and efficient. We both chose scallops as a starter, delicious, followed by veal fillet for me and lamb for my husband. We both agreed our dishes were just what we’d hoped tender meat, full of flavour. Our deserts just rounded it off, chocolate dome and sorbet for me and lemon cheesecake for my husband. We both had glasses of wine which didn’t break the bank. We took coffee in the drawing room which came with fudge and chocolates, a perfect end to our meal. We look forward to our next visit.

My siblings and I treated our parents to dinner at the Marcliffe for their Christmas, in January. It was a cold and frosty dark Saturday night and the welcome could not have been warmer. We had drinks in the lovely lounge followed by two course dinner, coffee, wine and more drinks in the main restaurant. We had a super night and thoroughly enjoyed the food, company service and ambience. Would highly recommend.

Abundante, delicioso desayuno. Hermoso y elegante comedor con manteles blancos, sí, todavía aprecio la ropa de cama. Disfruté las mejores chuletas de cordero de mi viaje y había 4 de ellas, cocinadas a la perfección (rosa en todas partes). Mi marido disfrutó el thermador de langosta, también demasiado generoso con las dos mitades de la langosta. Buena selección de vinos. Caro, pero sin duda vale la pena cada bocado.

Had a lovely graduation lunch for my son here in mid July. Impressive surroundings with really good service. Lunch was delicious. Excellent local produce with delicious steak. Superb wine list too. Overall, it made a very special day memorable.

A nice traditional restaurant in a 5 star hotel. Had a drink in the lounge first then I chose the roast beef for lunch and my partner had the fish. Both were excellent. Lovely old school service and ambience

We go here quite often for Sunday lunch and every single visit has been worth it. You couldn't go wrong with any item on the menu. All meals are delicately prepared and well worth the price. Love dining at the Marcliffe!

Went for afternoon tea with a group of friends, presentation top notch, eats were lovely, I was driving so did not have alcohol, was told champagne and Belinda were lovely. Service was very good, attentive staff.

Set in lovely grounds and the interior in what I would describe as a "traditional country house style". Dinner for nine in the lovely Conservatory Restaurant. Great service expected and delivered and fresh food of a high standard although as can be the case with "nouvelle type cuisine", some of main course portions seemed a little small (eg my Monkfish). But on the whole a wonderful experience with great venue, athmosphere and food and drinks.

Enjoyed a dinner dance here at the start of February. The service was polite and efficient and the food was also of a high standard. The haggis was the best I have ever had, and the trio of desserts went down a treat with everyone.

All I can say is WOW. My husband and I had an amazing Sunday Lunch and the service and hospitality was brilliant. Not our first visit and we will definitely be returning

Had a lovely dinner celebration for a friends birthday. The service excellent and food could not be faulted. Highly recommend the prosecco. Staff in general are great, from the wall welcome at the door to being shown to your taxi. Excellent evening all round.

Went here with three friends for a special birthday afternoon tea treat last year. Its a beautiful hotel and service was attentive. However I found the tea itself a bit mediocre and was pretty disappointed when we came to pay our bill that we had been served the most expensive bottle without having been advised. I had also asked for a plate for the birthday girl to have her plate decorated with a birthday message, this had obviously not been passed on sadly.

De propiedad privada y bellamente amueblado, el personal era encantador y acogedor, de hecho, te sentías bienvenido tan pronto como entraste al hotel. estuvimos allí para una función, pero mucha gente allí para el té de la tarde y por la noche como destino para celebrar una ocasión especial.

My friend and I had a lovely afternoon tea, delicious sandwiches, scones, cakes etc. The service was excellent and staff very friendly, best afternoon tea we have tasted.

I have visited the Marcliffe many times for mass catering charity lunches and awards dinners but never eaten in the restaurant. My mother was treating my husband and myself and we weren’t disappointed. The menu was great making choosing difficult. All the dishes were beautifully presented, the standout dish was my husband’s main course of venison. My mother and I had different fish dishes which were slightly spoiled by having rather salty skins. My chocolate and orange dessert was fabulous. Certainly on the pricey side but delicious and great service.

From the olives, popcorn and peanuts in the bar with a cocktail to the the presentation of the menu it was obvious that this restaurant was in a league of its own. Fabulous food, a great selection of wines and outstanding service - dining at it's level best

Accommodation and food excellent, but not cheap. Drink very expensive. OK it is a 5 star hotel. Wedding excellent.

The Marcliffe hits all the right notes in providing a fine dining experience. The food is good, but it is all aspects of the service and little touches that contribute. This was our first visit, and we will most definitely return.

There were lots of positives here and it is a lovely venue, I have been to numerous awards ceremonies at this hotel and it has always exceed my expectations but tonight (for a bill in excess of £200) the evening was what I would have expected - certainly no more.

I know this is another thumbs up from myself and hubby!

Realmente debería haber enviado esto antes de ahora! Un grupo de 15 de nosotros tiene la sala de jardín para la comida de graduación de mis hijas. El personal fue muy amable al llegar y una vez nos condujeron a la habitación en la que nos encontramos con copas de champán. Las camareras fueron las más atentas. Una vez que se sentaron para nuestra comida, que era un menú fijo, uno de nuestros invitados pidió el menú normal ya que no come mucho. Esto no era un problema para ellos y estaba encantada de tener una porción más pequeña para adaptarse a ella. El menú y la comida en sí era fabuloso! Todos nuestros huéspedes comentaron lo buena que era la comida y la calidad de la misma. Absolutamente fabuloso y felicitaciones a un gran chef y su personal!

Poder elegir nuestros propios rellenos de sándwiches y pan del menú fue un gran comienzo. Sólo mejoró cuando se sirvieron bollos y pasteles. Todo era casero y fresco a la mesa. Nuestro servidor fue excelente, muy atento, notando que nuestras teteras necesitaban reabastecerse antes de que nos dimos cuenta. Muy recomendable y muy buena relación calidad-precio.

Mi última visita a The Marcliffe fue para el té de la tarde, absolutamente excelente. El personal, como siempre, fue el más acogedor y atento. Nos sirvieron el té en el salón, que, a pesar de estar ocupado con otros clientes, no era en absoluto intrusivo para la comodidad y el ambiente. Tanto mi amigo como yo tenemos diferentes requisitos dietéticos y estos se adaptaron a que nos sirvieran una deliciosa comida alternativa, muy bien presentada. La selección de té fue extensa y nuestras opciones individuales se sirvieron y se repusieron durante toda la tarde. Tuvimos una tarde muy relajante con buena comida, y aunque el costo es mayor que en otros establecimientos, vale la pena. Volveremos.

The most sublime food, service and setting in Aberdeen. Love going here for an outstanding meal every time. Considering sides are included I also think it’s great value for money.

Aberdeen can be a fickle place for restaurants, with oil money sloshing around, some places just don't seem to care.

Tolles Zimmer, nette Crew einfach ein herrlicher Urlaub. Frühstück traumhaft - riesige Karte, mehr als volle Teller. Nettes Service - Abends gute Cocktails und herrvorragendes Essen. Einfach ankommen und wohlfühlen.

Just attended an afternoon tea here with two ladies celebrating their 60th birthday. The food, service and location was wonderful and I cannot praise this place enough. We were made to feel very special and I would highly recommend a visit for a special occasion.

Being local to the area with The Marcliffe just 10 min walk from where I stay, I go there quite a lot to make use of the bar. Can’t fault the food or the service during dinner. What is, however, incredibly annoying, is that when you turn up for drinks only, you are pretty much ignored and put at a table to the back of the drawing rooms and irrespective of how much money you spent on their wide wine list, you are being pretty much ignored - in fact, today I spent more on wine than I did at my last dinner setting. I think that locals who come to the place and spend money there regularly are no less worthy of the hotel bar’s service than transient tourists but this, it would appear, is not a philosophy followed by the hotel and I would not recommend visiting until you either have a function or dinner booked (or indeed are a guest in the hotel). Today, I had to complain that no one came back to take our second order after sitting there unattended for over half an hour. When the second order was eventually taken, everyone was overly friendly, knowing I complained and it just felt faked. I think I’ll take a break from this place for the time being but if you consider having your dinner there, I have no doubt it will be one of the best experiences in Aberdeen.

Aberdeen has in recent years gone through considerable changes, and not necessarily for the better. When it comes to fine dining, in my opinion, available choices these days tend to be few and far between, with a number of good restaurants having closed for one reason or another. However, thankfully, there remains some consistency, and a beacon of hope, in that The Marcliffe at Pitfodels is still going strong!

We stayed one night at the Marcliffe and ate dinner. It was the first time we experienced a way of dining that was repeated the next two nights in different restaurants. We arrived at our reservation time and were directed to have a drink in two comfortable chairs in the bar where we reviewed the menu and placed our order. When the food was near ready, we were shown to our table and had a delicious meal. It was a very pleasant experience after a long day of touring the countryside. I would definitely return.

The Conservatory is a brilliant restaurant experience from start to finish. The attention to details and the attentive service makes for an exceptional meal. The Caesar salad, scallops, halibut, monk fish, and banana waffle were absolutely delicious. The food is rich, fresh, and flavorful.

Attended a wedding 2nd June, warm welcome from reception staff, room was lovely and spacious, although we immediately shut the curtains and opened the windows as it was stifling hot. The food served just after the wedding service, was hot really tasty and plenty of it. This is when we first met Patrick, what a character, a true asset to this hotel. He smiled, he chatted with guests to ensure they had everything they needed, he was fabulous. Where the hotel let me down was my meal In the evening, i had chosen the vegetarian option hadnt seen what this was at the time of selection, if I had I would probably not have bothered. The starter was just basically fruit cut up with a little diced fruit salsa, placed on the plate, underwhelming, melon balls were solid and just not very imaginative considering the style of hotel. It got worse, the main was a cheese soufle, falafel and quinoa salad, when i read this i thought how will that work on the plate but thought i may be surprised, well i wasnt, a large flat falafel, which was spicy and i love spicy food was so dry even the tomato salsa at the side couldnt save it and it totally overwhelmed the cheese soufle, which was cooked well and actually would have made a better starter. The quinoa salad was quinoa with diced vegetables, it was ok but pretty tastless as all you were tasting was the spice from the falafel. Everyone i was sitting with by this point could see how bad it was. The staff serving were very young and seemed a bit lost as to how to put plates down and take them away, which is a shame, some training would help. The sticky toffee was probably the best bit of the evening, i had such high expectations, but the main dish was not cohesive on the plate, not sure what chef thought this combination would work, but they certainly need some help in putting dishes together. Patrick again made the evening for us, our wine glasses had been taken away which were still half full and Patrick immediately got us 2 more glasses and apologised. He worked so hard, i cant believe he was still standing so late at night, everyone was talking about Patrick, the wedding couple thought he was fab and had made their day, well he certainly made our stay at the hotel memorable. Breakfast was better, an improvement on my meal the previous evening, although please dont toast or grill a potato scone, they just turn out very dry. Please pass on our thanks to Patrick, he is a star and deserves recognition for his devotion to making the guest feel important, he is such an asset to have. This could so easily have been 5 stars but I was so disappointed with my meal which I couldnt really eat that I was only going to give 3, The reason I gave 4 was all down to Patrick!

While was in Aberdeen I looked for take nice meal after so long business meeting. This place recommended to me from my business partner and didn't regret. I took nice big steak think with gravy sauce, and was great!

Attended a large wedding and was totally impressed. Great service and lovely food. Terrific steak swerved well by friendly and informed staff. Lovely setting- a class act

Friendly welcome, sat down in lounge to peruse menus. A bit over half an hour between arriving and being shown to our table. We had three courses - very filling! The specialist fish menu is very expensive, but we took fishy items from the main menu. Everything was very tasty, delivered in style. Total cost £150 including aperitifs, an excellent bottle of Sancerre, and tips for staff. So not cheap, but not outrageously expensive either. Advice: starve yourself before coming!

We booked a Mother’s Day lunch at the Marcliffe and had a fantastic time. From the minute you walk in, you feel special. A few drinks in the drawing room followed by a fantastic Sunday lunch. Standout dishes were the lamb and the halibut, absolutely packed with flavour. Great service, great quality food, honestly could not have asked for more. Well done!

My children took me for Mother's Day to the Marcliffe hotel for lunch;

Booked for a family celebration and it exceeded our expectations. Service was excellent from reception, through dinner and drinks afterwards were as good as we could have wanted. The menu offered food that would have satisfied any taste and inclination. Quality as you would expect in an establishment of this standard with enough innovation to elevate your enjoyment into the memorable. An enjoyable, memorable, successful and satisfying evening. Our thanks to all for making it so.

The once iconic status of Aberdeen dining has definitely been lost by the Marcliffe. Friday night was busy and service in the pre-dinner bar area was slow. Orders were eventually taken and an hour after arrival we were shown to our table. The smoked haddock (not yellow haddock) was served cold, the scallops were small and tasteless but at least the soup was hot. Of the mains both sole at our table were over cooked, the halibut was cold and the roe deer was good. The service was slow, clumsy and untrained and we left immediately after the meal from the table such was our disappointment.

My wife and I were gifted an afternoon tea here and went with another cople.

It is a nice if a bit pricy breakfast spread with both buffet and a la Carte items. I would suggest staying away from the eggs Benedict. I have ordered it twice with the same result, bland white roll base and the miserdly out of hollandaise sauce is broiled within an inch of its life. They do have vegetarian options that my daughter quite liked and the fruit choices have been very I've the times I have been there. Good, friendly service.

It was a great to get a chance to return to the restaurant at The Marcliffe and find it was maintaining its reputation for standards in excellence. Fine dining at its best...
