Toast Coffee House & Cafe in St. Helens

Heard about this place a month ago from a friend, visited every weekend since. Best cafe I’ve been to in years, from the great food to the impeccable service. Any questions or requests are always handled professionally and most importantly with a smile. No wonder there is a queue down the street from opening to close. Will definitely be returning again soon.

It's a very good place to go for a number of reasons. Menu is comprehensive for all your breakfast needs. The food is very tasty and always fresh and warm. The staff are friendly to the. The place is a throwback to the days when you could get service and satisfaction when you shopped. The place is very well designed with heaters in the courtyard making outside dining possible in winter. Oh and the cakes are lovely. It is a place to go without doubt.

Lovely place. I recommend the full english and eggs benedict ar the weekend. Really great service even tho they were pretty busy. Parking is hit and miss, you chance your luck but well worth it. Will become regulars xx

Lovely coffee shop, great coffee, great food. I had eggs Benedict, and it was fantastic. On this occasion, there were 3 of us, and a baby. All food and drink was enjoyed. Friendly staff also adds to the charm of this coffee shop. Highly recommend. 223/08/25 Back again with family, and yet again this place is fantastic. 3 adult lunches, 2 soups, coffees and kids food. All perfect polite service, and great atmosphere. Love this place. Always 5 star!

Soon as you turn up,your noticed, if there's no places they will tell how long it can be, they don't let stand there which I appreciate, but when your in luck, and your in, then it's top notch, lovely food,lovely staff, nuff said!

Lovely place, service is very good and the staff were pleasant, varied menu and breakfast cooked well, pleasant atmosphere although a little noisy with people talking over one another but it hasn't put me off going back. 😊

We visit Toast regularly and are always greeted with a smile and the service is always great, even when it’s super busy. They have an extensive menu with plenty of choice for vegetarians. The prawn salad is my favourite. Portions are excellent and pricing reasonable.

I booked afternoon tea for a group 6. Paid a £5pp deposit. Unfortunately one person was unable to make it on the day, so lost the deposit which was expected. The food was truly fantastic. Had mix of hot and cold savouries, lots of sandwiches and a selection of sweet stuff. Infact we all ended up taking some home in box as there was so much. The staff are really attentive and professional. I have been to this venue several times before and it never disappoints. It is small and cosy but well set out. Seating inside and also in a coveted courtyard which has oodles of atmosphere. Would highly recommend.

On entering greeted by pleasant staff. Nice place. Nice food. Good service. Didn't wait long even though the cafe was full. Only thing, no apparent parking other than main road. Maybe we missed it.

Now I understand all the reviews and comments from others. Absolutely lovely place, with great staff and the food was exceptional.

I love a breakfast at Toast. Consistently good quality food, served with a smile. I opt for door stop toast and a cup of tea in a China cup, it's like visiting your favourite nan's house.

Alway busy which for a food establishment speaks volumes. Always excellent service. Food is always well prepared and delicious. Highly Recommend this place.

Went for breakfast this morning. Was absolutely gorgeous. 2 full English and a bacon and pancakes. Coffee excellent. Would defo return. Queue out the door ! So get there early.

We went at 10am on Monday morning and were seated straight away inside. We never mind whether it’s inside or outside as they have a great outdoor area with heaters. Staff really friendly and we ordered two breakfasts and sausage barns for kids. Only criticism is not a lot of choice midweek as they only do pancakes etc at the weekend.

What an amazing place. Food was delicious, we ordered the big breakfast and the little breakfast and both were great. The cafe itself is lovely with indoor and outdoor (heated) dining areas.

Great little big cafe, looks small but a bit like a TARDIS. Waitress was lovely and looked after us. Food was fantastic sausage especially.

Extortionate prices £20 for x2 coffees and x2 buttys. Was sat down and seat was given away my order was a take away apparently. Bacon and egg on toast had to drive back get bread toasted.

Been disappointed with a few places going out for a spot of brekky with the wife and finally a lovely little place that absolutely didn't disappoint. Breakfast was beautiful and filling staff were friendly and attentive will definitely be coming back... no wonder it's voted best breakfast in st helens yum yum ..

Wonderful cafe, friendly, lovely food and reasonably priced. Very friendly staff. Lovely courtyard at the rear which has parasols if it gets too hot. Food came quickly even though it was quite full. Not licensed but they did say if you book for say an afternoon tea you can bring your own.

Love this cosey coffee shop. I ordered high tea for my friend and I, was more than we could finish. Lovely service. It does get very busy though at lunchtime, though we went at 2pm and it was still busy in the summer holidays

Staff pleasant but sausages over cooked and toast asked for a week coffee not strong but was given strong which meant more sugar not good for me

Had a super lovely breakfast. Asked for just avocado on toast (rather thick), skipping the egg with some apple juice and it was superb and filling. There were many tables reserved and people still calling to ask for reservations. I believe that is a big enough sign that no matter what you get it will be great. The staff were happy and helpful with our food being served rather swiftly.

Had a lovely couple of hours in toast yesterday afternoon with two good friends. We had high tea!! It was excellent, along with the atmosphere and service. We are lucky to have this little place in St.Helens.

It's a lovely little place. Good food and great people. And the price is fair. We had a little breakfast and really enjoyed it.

Can't recommend this place enough. Staff are so friendly and make you feel welcome. The whole place is spotless clean and cutely decorated. And the food is delicious. And brilliantly price.

Toast has the perfect mix of good food, good atmosphere and wonderful staff. The only downfall of toast is it's popularity, so be you may have a small wait for a table.

The best place to eat breakfast and a light lunch in St Helens by a mile. The staff are all great too and very friendly. I would describe the food and service at Toast both with the same ‘consistently brilliant’.

Lovely food, cooked fresh from order. Staff are lovely (Amy makes amazing cakes!) I have been going for years. I can definitely recommend them Updated review 2023 - the food was as about as good as ever but the service has gone slightly. I had to ask for my coffee (10mins after other drinks had arrived) and then the milk (I can drink black coffee but not nescafe which I would usually avoid altogether but it comes with a breakfast, my mum had given me the frothy milk from her and my sisters drinks but it didnt help so i ended up asking for milk about 10minutes later) Staff seemed to look with exasperation whenever you requested something. I get Saturdays are busy but service is half of the experience

Really lovely , we attended my sisters hen do there we had afternoon tea it was absolutely delicious ,they made a lovely mini afternoon tea for my 2 year old daughter too made it really special for her. Food was delicious and nothing is too much trouble would highly recommend 👌

Not for me. 6..60 for a breakfast barm. Well a small barm. 4.50 for bin lid in most place's. Not all that good tbh. Black pudding not cooked just warm. Wont be going again

Bacon hardly cooked big breakfast tiny bare minimum, everything just cooked nothing much other local cafes won’t go again , and not cheap Normally don’t leave reviews first one but half the plate was mushrooms

I have visited this establishment for many years and have had gorgeous food served by very welcoming staff. I visited today and ordered a steak baguette something I have had many times. Today I felt that the steak was quite large and difficult to eat....

First visit here today, and must say what a lovely place it is. All the staff were very friendly and polite, the food was served very quickly (even though it was busy). And it was very tasty. Took the dog with us so we sat in the covered outdoor area, it has heaters you can turn on yourself. It's all just very well presented. Will look forward to visiting here again. Very happy with it 😊

Can't believe I've never been before. We were looking for somewhere close by that allows dogs and I've had this tea room on my list of places to visit for a little while now. It's lovely. We sat outside in a covered courtyard as we'd taken our little dog with us. Above the tables are outdoor heaters which are really easy to control and very effective. They provide blankets for the dogs as the floor outside is all cobbled and there are blankets for the humans on the back of every chair. It was a friendly atmosphere and quite busy for a random Tuesday lunchtime. We were served really quickly and the lady who took our order was lovely. Although they don't do a doggy menu (not all places do and that's okay) they did cook an extra sausage for the dog which I thought was lovely. Thanks very much for a really nice experience and I'm sure we'll be back soon.

This place is the most amazing hidden gem. The food is outstanding, the taste is always perfect. Never had a bad breakfast and it tastes the exact same every time. The staff are always friendly.

Had to take our daughter to somewhere nearby and just consulted Apple Maps for the nearest place to get coffee. Toast was 8 minutes walk away so we headed there. Great place, food was delicious, didn’t take long to arrive and didn’t break the bank....

I have been three times now for breakfast, had the large breakfast and it’s the best I have ever had, made fresh, comes piping hot, served by great staff. Clean and smart with great toilet facilities, excellent.
