Wales millenium centre in Cardiff

GREAT VENUE... but... There's no doubt about it, this is a magnificent addition to the Cardiff Bay redevelopment. The locals have amusingly nicknamed this amazing WMC structure as "The Armadillo" because of its armour-plated look and it's stealthy shape. There is also a new-Ish, cheerful café area at the centre's lobby, front – a lively in-house refreshment stop and chill-out workspace – I hope this becomes popular to give the place a nice buzz. This footfall will also help other nearby privately-owned outlets. The main auditorium is very comfortable and looks great, and occasional tours are available to thrill at the very SIZE of the place – much bigger than it seems – especially round the back, with rehearsal studios, concert hall and scenery construction etc etc. Usually great, some of the shows for the last few months have sunk to new moral lows. Which now brings me to the toilets... Along with the fact that the management here are encouraging women dressed as men to use the gents toilets (there is actually a tampon machine in the gents!), they are actively encouraging men dressed as women to use the LADIES toilets. This has given a "green light" for any, with ill intent, to dress as a woman to infiltrate the ladies toilets, and mingle around women and girls who rightly want expect privacy to adjust/change their clothing etc, and just feel safe with other female-only customers in a LADIES toilet. I really hope someone at the centre sees my review and does something about this. This sanitary insanity in a FAMILY venue seriously mars what is, otherwise, a fantastic place.

Unfortunalety my mum and I were both unable to attend a pre-booked tickets for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory this month.We paid for booking protection back in November 2022 on original booking, what an absolute joke. My mum had an operation 3 weeks before so we moved the date to the 20/05/23.But i couldn't attend due to ankle operation.We tried several times to contact the theatre but they didn't want to know!! Just washed our hands off us £200 down!!.Plus my mum is disabled. Told to claim through booking protectionLiterally had to have a doctors paper to prove my op!! Crazy for a show .Now refusing to pay full amount.No phone number or contact email to discuss all done via a portal on computer. Been going there for years!! Awful way to treat people with a disability!! Don't bother with the booking protection either its a scam!! Fuming!!

DO NOT order tea or coffee in the cafe, if you have a show to attend. The ordering process is a shambles and our coffee took nearly 25 minutes to be ready! Then it's too hot to drink in the few minutes left before the show - and you are not allowed to take drinks into the theatre. Just don't bother.

Went to see strictly ballroom last night. Booking process wasn't easy. Tried to ring several times but only got answer machine. IT WAS COLD IN THE THEATRE. TAKE A COAT AND KEEP IT ON! The only reason I booked was to see Kevin Clifton and it was his understudy. I appreciate that his appearance cannot be guaranteed but if I'd had advanced warning I may not have ventured out on a freezing cold night

This was our first visit to the Theatre and we were very impressed by the cleanliness of the theatre and the attention of staff. We had problems uploading our tickets but staff helped and directed us to the door for our seats. We arrived early to get a drink and buy a programme before the show and appreciated the announcements to take your seats were clear and at appropriate intervals.

Tried to phone to book tickets --recorded message told me box office not open 'till 12oclock !!! they should update their website.!! Phoned after 12 noon and same recorded message told me queues were very long--to phone back later and cut me off !! What an appalling way to run the premier venue in wales--open hours that are advertised on your web site and get more staff for those of us who like to speak to a real person. Cut back on managers and not on reception staff.

Great show, but seats are very close together. Confusion with the doors not staying open and caused a delay, staff seemed very confused about this and would not let you through the doors. Apart from this a good experience, good sound and lighting. Good room temperature .

For the most part unless you speak Welsh or are an ethnic minority this place is not for you. It makes that plain with the posters inside and outside. I have never felt so discriminated against for being a non Welsh speaker and being white!! I will never go in here ever again

The place seems to be manned by volunteers who were very welcoming and made sure punters found their seats and were comfortable. The venue is one of the most accoustically sympathetic theatres I have met, and I will certainly visit again. If you don't know Cardiff, allow plenty of time to find the centre, as it is not too well marked - blame the Council not the Managemetn!

Beautiful place to visit, it's lovely day with group of school children there. As I was not booked any show, just walked around area, everywhere clean and keep well maintained.

This is a great place to go watch a show. Very enjoyable experience watching bedknobs and brooms sticks, slight technical problem but still enjoyable. The seats were comfortable and view was great. Staff friendly and helpful. Great experience and thoroughly enjoyed will return to watch another show.

First time back to watch an opera. It seems like the life has been sucked out of this venue. Box Office gone just plasterboard. The bars no longer sell bottles of wine only individual tin cans of wine that are served in plastic beakers that you would give a 5 year old. Staff although polite don’t understand going to this venue is an overall experience the opera is certainly the main event but enjoying a glass wine or champagne before or during intervals is for most people part of the overall experience. We were all very dissatisfied with the changes.

We were two couples that went to see Beautiful last week, the theatre is excellent for viewing the stage,with plenty of leg room and comfortable seating.

Went to see The Carole King story and it was fab. Seats on the other hand were small, cramped, no arm room, no leg room, asked one usherette if we could move because my daughter felt hot and sick, we were told yes if we paid an extra £30! We wrent trying to scam better seats, we just wanted to move anywhere not as uncomfortable as where we were. Ruined the show a bit.

Went to see the King and I last night 18th jan, As the Centre goes its lovely My issue with last night is that, they had run out of programs and also a strict 15 minute interval with which they only put 2 people serving at the bar(on top floor) Really!!! Program issue, ok so it was the last night but to run out, thats not great Bar issue, if your going to be doing a 15 min break then get more staff !! Sorry wasnt impressed last night with service

I was lucky enough to have a visit to the center as a Xmas gift, we saw Les Miserable what a truly awesome experience, the center staff could not do enough for us and every person was obliging and pleasant, the ease of entering the building and being directed too your seat was excellent, i will certainly be visiting again in the near future.

El personal realmente servicial, teníamos un cupón para estacionamiento a precio reducido que tuvimos que recoger en el centro, nos llevó unos dos minutos. Acceso fácil sin pasos. El único inconveniente para nosotros, que era de esperar, fue la larga espera para que un ascensor nos llevara a nuestro nivel para nuestros asientos. Salir del teatro al final del espectáculo fue tan fácil como entrar. En definitiva, una experiencia indolora y placentera. Planeando volver en 2020.

Spectacular place for people who loves arts and architecture. Impressive concept and message from Welsh people about culture! Cozy and very attractive building and programs. I wished to have more time to enjoy the musical programs. Take time and enjoy this iconic place of the city.

Visited The Wales Millennium Centre to go and see Les Misérables. It was our first time at the Centre, and to say we were impressed was an understatement. Being a wheelchair user, the ease of being dropped off/picked up right outside was great, from the minute we entered the building, we knew we were going to enjoy our evening. This was a belated 40th birthday present for myself, and it certainly did not disappoint. Ticket collection was very swift, and being seated was very fast. One thing that did slightly disappoint me was the distance we were from the stage. Characters in the show, weren't that easy to make out, but still I knew the story, so still enjoyed the show. I would have liked to have wheelchair/carer seating a little bit further forward to the stage, so that I could see a little more clearly. I have to admit, the lighting into the stage was also very dark and could have been brighter, maybe there is a reason for it to be that dark, but because of this characters weren't always clearly visible. But as I have already said, regardless of this, I knew the story, so all the downfalls did not make me enjoy the show any less. Another thing I would like to make the venue aware of, as a wheelchair user, I felt the accessible toilet was a little bit tight. It was very difficult to manoeuvre from the toilet back round to the doorway, due to the limited space. I feel the room itself could have been a lot bigger, to make it easier for wheelchair users to be able to manoeuvre their wheelchairs easier and with more comfort. I almost could not manoeuvre back round to the door, and had barely any signal on my phone to contact my husband to come and open the door for me. I unlocked the door but then found I was unable to turn myself around to open the door comfortably myself, and as my husband had gone to toilet himself, I found myself waiting in the toilet, with the door unlocked, with a queue of people outside, who clearly did nothing to help me. When I finally got out, I had loads of stares, which made me very uncomfortable, but I could not get into my wheelchair before coming out as a part of it had come out of place, and I needed my husband to fit it back in place before being able to get in it. This was near impossible, as the space in the toilet was so limited. I feel a Changing Places toilet would be more appropriate, to give more room for an independent wheelchair user to manoeuvre around in it, and to be able to have a carer in with that person. Other than that, we have absolutely no complaints, the Wales Millennium Centre is clearly a great venue, but accessible facilities including seating nearer the stage, could be slightly improved.

Lovely building to watch a fantastic live show reasonably priced tickets for some of the top west end shows will definitely attend again

The production was amazing. The facilities and staff at the theatre are excellent. Plenty of venues within the theatre for drinks and snacks

Dropped in for a coffee and snack, lots going on for children in the foyer. Quite an amazing building, worth a look.

A short train or bus ride from Cardiff centre brings you to the Bay area. The millennium centre is an architectural delight from outside an interesting interior design from the upper floor and views facing the square and water. The comfortable theatre is home for the Welsh Opera and other theatrical events. The BBC have studio and theatre space. The lobby is a huge space for exhibitions, ticket sales, serious souvenir shops and café/restaurants.

Immense édifice à la façade unique sur laquelle est écrit un message en gallois et en anglais. Les reflets du soleil sur la surface dorée de la façade donnent toute sa dimension à ce lieu d'arts et de spectacles !

We were here for the Faulty Towers Dining experience in June (PM Show) The first thing that hits you is the queue to get in, and then the queue to the bar!!!

Have queued on 2 separate occasions for a drink and didn’t even make the bar both times!!!!! The show is sold out and there’s one person behind the bar, awful management. The 50-60 people in the queue are just as disgruntled too. Won’t be returning.

Spent a lovely Sunday with some friends at the centre,unfortunately the food was cold and the beef was very tough I was told,,and as my friends could not eat it it was taken home for their Dogs ! I had the pork which was fine apart from being cold.

Wonderful waterfront location. In the hub of Cardiff. Great place to walk and take in the harbourfront sites.

Beautiful theatre with great seating and leg room. Pity the restaurant went as it was lovely. The new cafe Fresh I cannot recommend at all, avoid it! Service and food was shocking!

Went to see Calendar Girls. A fantastic show and would definitely go and see it again. The staff at the Millennium Centre are very helfull.

Have been enjoying the Welsh National Opera operas here for years and the restaurant/cafes within the building. Acoustics in the auditorium are outstanding and the building should be on any visitor's "must see" list

Hace un par de meses fuimos a ver a Jersey Boys con amigos y tuvimos una gran noche como siempre. Un auditorio encantador para ver cualquier espectáculo y asientos muy cómodos con buenas vistas desde casi cualquier parte del Teatro. Lobby muy grande para reunirse y charlar y / o tomar algo antes de la presentación. En general, una noche brillante no se puede perder.

Where do I start? We went to see this show on Saturday afternoon, we were seated right at the back of level 6, in the centre of the row, we had an excellent unhindered view of the stage. The show itself was fantastic from the beginning to the end. It told the story of Berry Gordy Jnr and the formation of Motown, right through to a 25th anniversary concert.

A beautiful building inside and out. We saw the Motown Musical here recently and enjoyed every minute. Seating was comfortable and uncramped and the stage view excellent. Went to the bar at the interval and was served very quickly. Enjoyed our drink in the lovely surroundings of the area before the bell went to invite us back to the concert hall. Another fabulous venue in our great Capital.

Wow what a fantastic show amazing music and cast were very impressive myself and my partner had a fabulous evening watching the show. However the meal before hand that we had previously booked for had a menue change omg what a disaster we normally attend about once a month to have a meal at Ffresh and then go on to watch the show but alas unless the menue changes back to a very nice 3 course one we shall be eating elsewhere im affraid we were totaly dissapointed. With what was offered and highly dissapointed .staff were very attentive and apologetic but it spoilt the start to the evening .But tbe show itself made up for it and the coffee and cake from the coffee shop can be highly recommended.

What a fantastic show, credit must be payed to all the cast of mowtown the musical, a perfect Thursday afternoon show. It took me back some years I felt like I was a teenager again!! Even my daughter who's 30, who came with me and my sister were are in our 50s and 60s thoroughly enjoyed herself, as she grew up with the music always being played, topped it off with a sunny afternoon drink and a meal overlooking the bay!

We're regulars to most of the operas and some musical and some theatre performances. It's a great building, especially the main Donald Gordon Theatre. Could do with more lifts.

We were here for the Cardiff Bay 10K race. Lovely Lattes and a nice relaxing atmosphere. Staff friendly and relaxed despite being super busy.

We saw a show in the Donald Gordon theatre inside. Very impressive modern building. The facilities are always well maintained. The staff on the doors were very nice and helpful.

Really impressive venue, with a lot of facilities and things to see and do. Often attend the opera here, first class and truly and experience. Would recommend everyone to visit at least once to experience this venue.

Reserved several months in advance as coming from London and have to say that we had to chase the management to keep in touch; a promise to update us to the menu never materialised. It was a relief on arriving to find they had our reservation because their on-line contact did not inspire any confidence. The dining area is quirky and, when you look closely, well worn and a complete overhaul would not come amiss. We had Sunday lunch and it was a severe trial with a jazz trio blasting away when all you wanted to do is catch up with relatives you haven't seen for some time. The food was a mixture or contemporary chic (starter and sweet) and old-fashioned meat and veg (main course), all quite incongruous. Service was slow so a good job we didn't have a show to see - no doubt they would have jumped to it if that had been the case. Friendly staff, reasonable food, medium value. A gluten-free menu printed out would solve the problem of staff having to dash to talk to the kitchen when you enquire whether a certain dish is gluten-free. Could do a lot better.

Visiting the Cardiff Bay Area you cannot help being impressed by the Wales Millenium Centre. It is great piece of modern design, very imposing and attractive at the same time.

I recently took my wife to the centre for Jersey Boys musical. I had heard significant praise from the west end production that it didn't come as a surprise to find the tour fully booked. The show was truly amazing. It was complimented by the quick changing sets that left me amazed. I was also blown away on how the center helps those that are either deaf or hard of hearing with its productions.

I attended a day-long meeting here and felt welcome, looked after and the facilities were good. I loved the design both inside and out.

Clean, comfortable and good views from almost every seat. As is usual in these places overpriced drinks in bars and food in restaurants. Staff are helpful and friendly.

I have visited the Millennium Centre on many occasions to see a variety of different shows, most recently the spectacular Matilda musical. The building is magnificent that gives me a surreal, almost magical, sensation every time I visit. Well worth a visit at anytime, but if you get the chance to take in a show as well your whole experience will be transformed.

Visited the millennium centre for my first show experience, and I was blown away , had some food & drinks before the show and was reasonable price to great building throughout and excellent staff, and the show was awesome

We watched a night of Welsh Music with some comedy while dining. The harp player was particularly talented. I stuck with steak. The dessert was exceptional. The Millennium Centre Building itself and the dock area is very impressive.

We visited here to see wicked in November 2018, venue was clean and tidy. We were sat right at the top, the seats weren’t the comfiest but the show was good.

Siendo novatos de ópera después de haber disfrutado de la presentación de WNO de Tosca en marzo, mi novia y yo decidimos asistir a la traviata el 6 de octubre. Aunque disfrutamos de ciertas partes de la actuación, se arruinó sin subtítulos durante los primeros 20 minutos y, lo que es más importante, ningún subtítulo para la escena del lecho de muerte de los personajes del título cerca de la conclusión. El uso de subtítulos en toda la ópera también fue espasmódico y 2 representantes de WNO confirmaron más tarde que nuestra actuación se vio acosada por problemas y fue la peor en cuestión. Como resultado de nuestra insatisfacción, me puse en contacto con el lugar dos veces por teléfono 3 o 4 días después de la presentación para quejarme y me informaron en 2 ocasiones que mi queja sería investigada pero que mi solicitud de reembolso probablemente no tendría éxito. Nadie del lugar se comunicó conmigo, por lo que visité personalmente el 18 de octubre y, inicialmente, Ffion me dijo que no habría reembolso. Pedí ver a un miembro del equipo de administración y, después de esperar 15 minutos, apareció el gerente de servicio al cliente, Kirsty. Ella no volvió a confirmar ningún reembolso a pesar de mis protestas y confirmó mi compra y asistencia de 20 entradas diferentes para espectáculos desde marzo. Me sentí totalmente insatisfecho y me dijeron que como habíamos visto todo el desempeño y no nos quejamos antes, no hubo reembolso. Reiteré que nos habíamos quejado a un acomodador en el intervalo 1 y confirmó que había oído hablar de numerosas quejas sobre la falta de subtítulos en su auricular. También cómo debíamos anticipar el fallo en los subtítulos durante la escena final del lecho de muerte de los roles femeninos. ¡Qué absurdo! ! ! ! Kirsty me recomendó que me pusiera en contacto con WNO ya que el lugar se estaba lavando las manos y no se responsabilizaba por el fracaso de la actuación. Finalmente, después de varias conversaciones telefónicas con WNO, Matt acudió al rescate. A pesar de no poder ofrecer un reembolso, nos dio 2 boletos de cortesía para la próxima presentación en el hipódromo de Bristol. Al enterarse de esto, Kirsty me dijo que, en lo que a ella respecta, el asunto estaba cerrado y que ninguno de sus superiores me llamaría. También me dijo que tenía la discreción de ofrecer algún tipo de reembolso, pero no lo haría por mi actitud. Estoy consternada por esto y creo que debería ser eliminada de su función en Servicio al cliente ya que no tiene la primera idea de cómo proporcionarla. Been here a couple of times to see #the 1various artists and never a let down. It’s a loverly setting and acoustics are excellent. Even though we were sat towards the back we still h@d a great view and did not miss anything

It was the first time I have been inside the Millenium Centre and the building is fabulous; I was there to attend an opera performance and the concert hall is beautiful. WNO are a brilliant company and the opera was amazing - it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening and we will definitely be back!

We visited this place to see Let it be show a Tribute to the Beatles. Great show but very few attendants to show where you are seated.

We were at the centre to see the Beatles musical "Let it Be". We had great seats and really enjoyed the show. It is a shame that the venue continues to restrict the consumption of alcohol within the actual arena,

They have a lot of halls for events. Visited there to attend a private event. During a break, there were snacks available to be bought as well as drinks. They also have good ice cream.

Went to see Summer holiday with family and it was excellent. was very impressed with the building as its the first time I have been in

Myself and my husband attended to see War Horse (which was excellent). The venue was clean and tidy and the staff were really helpful. I personally have a phobia of public toilets but as the need arose, I decided I would have to go... the facilities were really clean and modern and I was happy enough to have a second visit before leaving. The only downside is the seating which I found a little cramped and was unable to stretch my legs which really affected my sciatica but other than that we had a fab day.

This building is absolutely breathtaking, especially when it is lit at night! We did a Welsh dining experience inside, which included Welsh folk singers performing (with some humour thrown in) as we dined. The food was decent & the entertainment was good. Truly an unforgettable Welsh experience.

One of ‘The’ best stage shows ever... loved the whole empathy of the storyline and portrayal onto stage...’tears to my eyes’ scenario and would defo go again😲😍 If ever it returns to C M C I will be first to book

Typical, almost cliche. But that is what the vast majority likes, wants, aspires. Looks fine on a sunny day.

What an establishment. Fantastic large theatre with excellent acoustics. Comfortable seating although slightly on the hard side. Not the easiest of places to find your seat. Worth taking the lift. FFs restaurant in the building provides excellent service and a very reasonable menu and choice. Will visit again.

I love this theatre, the shows are first class, well worth a visit, and if you didn't know it's a Charity and needs our support, they do some great activities for children in the School Holidays, well done Guys.

Went to see a show here and it was very good. The seats that were allocated were good. We used the bar service and it proved to be very good and the prices were reasonable. The staff were polite and the toilets were clean.

My wife and I have now attended our first concert at the centre and all we can say is the whole experience was excellent. The staff were very approachable and friendly. We had a box and the view of the show was superb. Pleanty of facilities, we will hopefully be attending again.

The Millennium Centre in Cardiff has everything .. restaurants, bars, shopping and, in The Donald Gordon Theatre, one the finest venues for opera that I have visited. The acoustics are superb .. amongst the best I have experienced. Highly recommended !!

The building itself is amazing and before you go in you feel as if you are going to have a good time. Once inside it is spacious and you don’t feel cramped even though there are hundreds of people in there with you. Friendly staff and wide stairs for you to use. Very clean and you enjoy visiting regardless of the show.

Have visited many times for shows etc. Staff are always friendly and helpful and the venue always has a great variety of shows. Plenty of bars and toilets and alwats spotlessly clean

Go to see something at this venue, the ambience is spectacular. Accessability, sound quality and comfort, there are no seats you would not be happy to take.

This building is really beautiful and the architecture is stunning , however , I am not sure , for such a huge building , i feel that the activities are very limited . The food at the restaurant below is below average, the bars , are very limited , and it may seem a bit overpriced for the services offered , but it is a lovely place to watch a show

A great place for a large conference. Several good rooms and professional staff. The stores were also nice.

On Sunday evening a group of gospel singers were there 30/10/17 they were absolutely brilliant a small crowd gathered there to listen they were dancing and singing it was a pleasure to watch . Next on my list is the history of tiger bay

Went to the opera, performed by Welsh National Opera and it was amazing and had Steve Spiers in it (the big guy from Stella)

Home to Welsh National Opera, this magnificent performance centre offers tremendous acoustics, comfortable auditoria and an opera company with a magnificent orchestra and chorus

The Millennium centre is worth a visit, it houses the information office and two or three cafes, the place appears to be very clean and well kept.

Dinner and Welsh evening show at the Millennium Centre at the Cardiff bay area. Area rejuvinated 10 years ago after moving govt offices there. Entertained by Welsh songs by a group of 4 singers accompanied by a lady on the harp and piano. 3 course set dinner. 10 mins drive from Clayton Hotel.

'Crazy For You' at the Millenium Centre. Amazing performance by the cast and company. No Pit Orchestra, all the music was played by the performers and was as good as any Pit Orchestra I have heard. I wonder how many of the audience realised they did not have any written music, all played by memory. The cast was excellent, Tom Chambers in particular gave a superb performance, singing, dancing and even played the trumpet on one occasion. In all an incredible performance by one and all.

The Millennium Centre is a beautiful building inside and out. The gift shop staff were helpful and friendly. We didn't attend a performance but were able to wander around admiring the architecture and drinking in the atmosphere. I really want to return to attend a show as I'm sure it would a memorable experience.

Came here as a group and had a great meal and entertaining show of Welsh singers. There were quite a few of us but food came out quickly efficiently and of very good.

We have been here this evening to see hairspray the musical!!! Excellent show, the centre itself was lovely as always really clean lots of helpful staff we be back to see more shows
