Can always be assured of having an excellent meal. Atmosphere informal and welcoming. Never had a bad meal in past 16+ years we have been coming. Panne cotta is my favourite dessert & is always excellent

Amazing gluten free. So knowledgeable about gluten and contamination with all the menu and ingredients. Very rare as a coeliac to be able to eat out without worry. A lovely evening. Warm friendly service and delicious food! It was a special celebration and very rare night out together.

My Father in Law was keen to come to Y Polyn for his 94th birthday as well as it being their Wedding Anniversary! We were 6 adults and 1 dog. The restaurant area where we were placed was extremely busy and we were rather snug….our particular table was poorly lit which made reading menus and wine lists a real challenge. The staff were super friendly and attentive especially the Gentleman who appeared to be in charge. Our visit was relaxed and no pressure was on us to place orders or hurry up at any time in fact we were almost one of the last tables to leave. The ambience was very good and it was incredible to see the restaurant so busy mid week. Great to see. The food was delicious and we had 2 menus to select from. We didn’t have any snacks but my Husband had as his starter the Y Polyn Fish Soup, Rouille, Gruyère and Croutons whilst I had the Twice baked Parmesan and Perl Las Cheese Soufflé, Mixed Leaf Salad and Pickled Walnuts. Both were spectacular! For our mains the table had a selection - Roast Rump of Lamb, Spiced Lamb Shoulder Pithivier, Sweet Potato Purée, Tender Stem Brocolli, Red Wine Jus; Pan Fried Filet of Cod, Confit Fennel, Crushed Pink Apple Potato, Cockles, Sauce Vierge; Chargrilled Welsh Sirloin Steak, Sun-dried Tomato and Caper Butter, Cider Braised Shallots, Fine French Beans, Beef Dripping Chips - specific feedback here was that the sauce would have been much better served on the side as opposed to the steak being smothered in it. Final meal worth mentioning was the Pan Fried Gnocchi, Butternut Squash Purée, Chestnut Mushrooms, Baby Spinach and Pant-Ys-Gawn Goats Cheese - Fabulous!! Not everyone had room for pudding but the vanilla ice cream went down a treat as did the Chocolate Mousse - which a number of us regretted we didn’t get 😋. We did get a candle in the ice cream which was very kind and we did have a very memorable lunch. The food really was glorious! We did drink a rather nice Rose with lunch but I didn’t catch the name and I had a couple of glasses of a fabulous Pinot Noir which went down very well indeed! Thanks to the staff for a lovely experience and also for permitting Jolly - makes it far more likely of a return trip!

The best meal - all 3 courses - I have eaten in a very long time. We had vegetarian or fish options and each course was so very tasty, perfectly cooked and an interesting balance of flavours. Staff were attentive and friendly but not obtrusive. A very unpretentious and relaxed experience and a great quality and interesting menu. We live 2 hours drive away but will definitely be back.

Enjoyed 3 course lunch here, again, and was remined why so so LOVE this restaurant. Been here loads of times, over many years, and ALWAYS ENJOYED the most FABULOUS food. Simple food, done extremely well. Top marks, as always, must go to the pasty chef, as the deserts are always AMAZING. Already looking forward to our next visit.

We had a family celebration for 19 people. The staff looked after us really well and the food was incredible. We would definitely revisit this restaurant as there was so much choice and all the food was delicious.

Great expectations met! We had heard good things about "Y Polyn". We arrived just before they opened and were welcomed straight away. The young front of house crew were relaxed, polite and very professional. The ambience is stylish with a country feeling. Loved the white Viognier house recommendation. We both had cheese souffle to start, which was creamy and light - great start. Pork belly and cod for our mains, both good. We don't usually eat dessert, but didn't want to leave and based on the quality of the starters and mains, we couldn't resist sharing the peach with homemade ice cream. Summery, not too sweet and all the light flavour of the peach came through in flavour of the creamy ice cream. Bread on the table, water still or sparkling and sweets with our coffee were very good hospitable touches. Left us with a feeling of having been to a generous host and not a mean one. It was our second wedding anniversary and we wanted something special, which was exactly what we had. Will definitely return.

Beautiful building, great food. First visit to Y Polyn didn’t disappoint. Food was fantastic and beautifully presented. Staff were friendly and efficient but not in your face. Highly recommended for a special occasion.

Chose this restaurant as midway for us and our friends to meet up for my wife's 80'th birthday. Couldn't have made a better choice! Excellent menu selection for all tastes. Everyone liked the dishes on offer and we all cleared our plates! So that is a sign of an excellent meal. Would go again (often!!) if this local.

Consistently good food if a little expensive. Don’t mind cost of starters, mains and desserts but optional extra like olives and dips etc a bit steep considering the portions.

From start to finish this was a superb experience. Home baked bread. Fizzy and still water without asking. The food was excellent. This restaurant isn't cheap. Over the years we have had some beautiful meals here although the emphasis has always been lots of meat and few vegetables. This time we were terribly disappointed. The menu was very limited. Two courses £30, three courses £40. We did have £20 taken off because of the Eat Out Scheme.After the breads, served with a miniscule ammount of butter, we both started with a haddock encrusted scotch egg with, as it was described, various veg in a sauce. We had a teaspoonful of grated veg in sauce. I opted for the duck breast with potato and confit duck terrine seved with various veg. The breast was delicious, the terrine was a wafer thin slice and the veg were beneath the breat and were so finely chopped and in a brownish sauce that they were indistinguishable from each other. The portion was very small. The meal had a uniform brownness. My husband decided on the steak, £5 supplement. This was accompanied by a wedge of iceberg lettuce and chips. There was a small dollop of chimichurri sauce on the steak. The steak was not good. It seemed to have a vein of glutenous matter lurking in it. I have never seen my husband have to spit anything into his hand in a restaurant before. The desserts were fine but again no generosity. When my husband mentioned the fat on the steak, for want of a better word, the owner was rather sharp and said that steak always has fat. I replied that the fat should have been edible. He removed the £5 supplementWe shall not be eating there again.

Visited for lunch and was slightly disappointed to see that the lunch menu wasn’t available. Ordered the haddock scotch egg and ragu for starters. The egg was delicious but the portion very small on a massive plate which made it look tiny. We both ordered steak which was nice but served with a massive wedge of iceberg lettuce- this is a lazy garnish in my opinion. There was perlas dressing on the lettuce though not enough to taste. The candied walnuts were delicious even if they did stick to our teeth. My husband also had a knickerbocker glory which he enjoyed.The food, as usual was good even if the menu choice was small. We usually enjoy visiting but felt that the price for what we had even with the £20 discount was expensive and I do wonder how many people will return after the promotion ends as many of the other diners were also looking for the smaller lunch menu to order from. We have no plans to return in the near future and will try other local independent businesses that haven’t felt the need to reduce their menu’s significantly at this time.

We had booked this weeks ago so when we had gails and winds the 45 minute drive was not easy. The was a little confusion regarding our booking but it was sorted out. We had a large table downstairs, and there was lots of space between tables. It was full with a lovely ambience. I like the background music. The menu is limited in choice but the mackeral was delicious and the other half's lamb tasty. The bread is devine. My eton mess exploded in my mouth and the plum tart didnt touch the side. A couple of coffees and job done.A special mention to the staff who were lovely.It is expensive but you get what you pay for. Well worth it.

Not a great gastronomic experience . Very average pub grub at a very high price . £40 per head plus wine means over £200 for four people . Not worth it by any means according to our dinner experience . Over cooked meat and apparently frozen oven chips etc . Fish course slightly better value and more tasty . Needs to improve by a long way to justify the price . Staff ok and friendly .But very basic and uninteresting upper floor rooms . If you'r booking you must ask for a table on the ground floor . It's a much nicer area by far . You can't help but get the feeling only known guests get to sit downstairs automatically .

3 course Sunday lunch for £29 is excellent value. Complimentary two types of home made bread and sparkling water. This resturant is set in the heart of the Carmarthen countryside. The staff were welcoming and friendly and spent time talking about the food on offer. The choices were varied and interesting for both meat eaters and vegetarians. There was also delicious home made foccacia and sour dough bread and olives to eat whilst waiting for our main course: which was cooked to order. When the meals arrived they were beautifully presented and tasted as delicious as they looked. My husband however was a little disappointed with his steak, which was rare as opposed to 'blue' as he had ordered.Everything else was perfect however. There was an extensive wine list but we were only drinking it by the glass and the house red was really tasty.Desserts on the menu all sounded yummy but I opted for a parfait with blueberry compote which was lovely.The ambience and decor of the place is relaxed and comfortable, but the food is fine dining standard.We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would highly recommend the place to others. It is probably best to book a table in advance.
