Midsummer House

Market, Cambridge
25/02/2017: We had looked forward to our visit and were not disappointed. The food was outstanding , Daniel Clifford clearly deserves his 2 Michelin stars, however what made the evening perfect were the front of house staff. Everyone was attentive and they created a relaxing ambience which can often be missing in fine dining restaurants. We have been fortunate to eat in other Michelin star restaurants but this visit is definitely going to be one of our most memorable.
25/02/2017: We went because my wife lost a bet to me on Football - that will teach her not to gamble. The up side was that the 8 course tasting menu was superb, with a liberal sprinkling of 9+ and 10/10 dishes to be had. My favourite dish was a toss up between the monkfish and the venison whilst my wife loved the quail. But in truth everything was extremely good. One minor gripe was that the NZ Sauvignon Blanc was not at all to our taste (but the Shiraz we had was spot on). Maybe a little more checking out of our tastes by the sommelier would have helped. The rest of the service was fine. Altogether a great experience which I would gladly repeat.

black apollo

Holt, North Norfolk
25/02/2017: Always a pleasure to pop into the Black Apollo for a delicious coffee. Cosy tables and friendly staff - coffee is their passion and they do it really well.
25/02/2017: Could'nt wait to get to Black Apollo, always been the best coffee around. But the other Saturday we were in Holt and called in for a cup of coffee, have to say we were a bit disappointed, it wasn't very warm, drinkable straightaway. I understand milk only heated to certain temp. but not been like that before. Mentioned it to lady who took my money, and she was dismissive, saying milk only heated to that temp!

St Benedicts Restaurant

Mancroft, Norwich, 30-45£
25/02/2017: Probably the best meal I've ever had, service was excellent. Had the 8 course tasting menu and wine flight. Awesome.
19/02/2017: Going to keep this short and sweet; went here for a birthday celebration and had a wonderful meal. Attentive, genuine and friendly staff, high-end but relaxed atmosphere, sublime food.

The Shed

St Andrews, Great Yarmouth
25/02/2017: I have been trying to get a booking for ages but they were always fully booked, now l know why. Such a quaint, friendly restaurant. The staff are warm and welcoming. This is a fish lovers paradise and for those who prefer something else there's plenty of choice. And everything is cooked fresh right in front of you...Highly recommended...
17/02/2017: Had a brilliant meal at the Shed last night. We had a mixture of starters which were all really delicious.Everybody love there main dishes , and my Dover Sole was cooked to perfection. Thanks to all at the Shed for a lovely evening.

Pamela's Restaurant

Nelson, Great Yarmouth, 30-45£
21/02/2017: Spent 4 days in Great Yarmouth ! Done some business here in Norfolk ! An outstanding restaurant ! Staff are attentive without ever being intrusive ! They will check all your meals when they serve you . The food is exceptional and, in the case of set price , great Value . 20/02/2017: A throughly enjoyable evening food hot & delicious although portions not really big enough to fill you. Staff very attentive boarding on over attentive so no privacy. But a very enjoyable ibut expensive experience

Quayside Plaza

Nelson, Great Yarmouth, <20£
23/02/2017: My adult family and my 4 yr old granddaughter visited this super restaurant again for an evening meal. We were greeted wearily, service was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble! The food was super, it was cooked to perfection and nicely presentation. All courses were really tasty!Even though they were very busy they fitted us in.Lovely Mediterranean atmosphere. Good wine and beer (some from a local brewery - which was very good!)We will be returning again and again. A real gem for Great Yarmouth.
22/02/2017: Dinner for 4 on a very busy Saturday night. Food was excellent yet without a jus or a drizzle anywhere on the menu. Don't think there were any chips either come to think of it. Just great, well cooked and presented food with a Mediterranean theme, so plenty of seafood, the baby squid were absolutely fabulous. Desserts are home made pastries, tarts and cakes so room had to be left for them. The wine list was largely Portuguese so not over familiar choices however the ones we picked were very good. Will definitely visit this very welcoming restaurant again.

Vita Bella

Bicknacre and East and West Hanningfield, Chelmsford, 45-60£
24/02/2017: Everyone should expierence Vita Bella at least once, Made to feel welcome from the moment you walk through the door, well laid out tables ,great choice of food, all of which i found above average
24/02/2017: What do you buy the couple who have everything? Oh yes a meal at Vita Bella!!Excellent food as per usual, amazing service and great ambiance. It never fails. First time for our friends who described it as "A Real Find!"

Maison Bleue Restaurant

Abbeygate, St Edmundsbury
22/02/2017: The service was fantastic! Every detail of service from my chair being pulled out to sit, to the folding of my napkin when I left for the ladies room, to the pouring of the sauce on my scallop starter, etc. was spot on. All staff we interacted with were friendly and knowledgeable when we asked questions or for recommendations. The food was simply delicious not to mention the presentation was picture worthy. My scallop and veal were cooked to perfection. Well done to your chef and the front of the house staff. We've lived in Bury for 3 years now and I don't know why we waited so long to dine with you. We will be back ASAP! Thank you for a wonderful dining experience.
22/02/2017: We have been to Maison Bleue two times now and have not been disappointed. The choice of main course is fairly limited but it encourages you to choose something that you might not have instinctively chosen. The dining experience is lovely and the staff are delightful without hovering over you too much! There is a very good selection of wine, including Champagne by the glass.

The Galley

Seckford, Suffolk Coastal
22/02/2017: Ate here last night and throughly enjoyed it, delicious food - had the mixed maze to start, one of the best I've had either in UK or Turkey and then Turkish Casserole and blacken pork for mains. The casserole was really tasty but delicately spiced, my husband pork was really tasty - a hot blacken coating in a sweet sauce. All this was accompanied by one of their special Riojas, so good we bought another to take home. The owner personally looks after every detail of the restaurant aided by his very attentive son. We would definitely return if back in Woodbridge
19/02/2017: The Valentines set menu did not disappoint! Lobster ravioli for starters, mains of duck breast for me & halibut steak for my wife, great deserts. Fine food freshly prepared, great ambience and all at a very reasonable price. If in Woodbridge do not leave without trying this restaurant!

Morston Hall Restaurant

Glaven Valley, North Norfolk, 60-100£
22/02/2017: We had Sunday lunch here. Guesta are advised to arrive about 40 minutes before the time for set lunch, and seated for canapes and an aperitif. Service was superb. The lunch is a set menu - you are asked about food preferences at time of booking. All courses were delicious. There is a choice of dessert. My passion fruit souffle was divine. Coffee and petit fours also included. Would definitely go back if in Norfolk again.
15/02/2017: We had two evening tasting menus. The first was superb with wonderful combinations of flavours. The second tasting menu was also good but there was a slip up in the service when it came to our dessert and part of it was missing because we were overlooked. However, I have now received an explanation of why this happened without the owner's knowledge. Galton Blakiston who had been in the kitchen, was called away for a family crisis and was unaware of the way that the mistake had been somewhat trivialised by the head waiter and other staff. I thank him for his sincere apology and look forward to visiting Morston Hall again sometime

The Mulberry

Thetford-Castle, Breckland, 45-60£
23/02/2017: This was the first time we had eaten here despite being locals, and we were pleasantly surprised. A warm welcome, comfortable surroundings, knowledgeable, attentive, but not intrusive wait staff. The food was extremely good, and all in all a very pleasant experience. We shall return!
23/02/2017: Wonderful delicious meal, and Karen is the most delightful Hostess ever. Never ever disappointed, always blown away by the quality and flavour of the food here. Thank you

Mrs Salisburys Famous Tea Rooms

Maldon North, Maldon
25/02/2017: I've yet to find somewhere else that can make a sandwich as well as Mrs salisburys. I love everything about this tea room. The staff, the decor, the food. It's all great and il be heading back there as soon as I can.
13/02/2017: I recently visited Mrs Salisbury in my home town Maldon. They have a great selection of good quality teas and fantastic homemade cake. Their menu is varied and they always have specials of which the fishfinger sandwich is our favourite. I always find the staff to be very friendly. In the summer my friends and i had a great afternoon tea. They have plenty of outside tables in a lovely courtyard setting.

Ristorante Il Piccolo Mondo

Bottisham, East Cambridgeshire
24/02/2017: A return visit, food still as good as last time, but took longer to get a booking, packed on a thursday evening. An enjoyable night out.
22/02/2017: We have waited a long time to reserve a table and it did not disappoint. The food, wine and staff were excellent. A very relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Cannot recommend highly enough. The menu choice was not too overwhelming and the dishes available were all very tempting. We opted for the a la carte, but the set lunch menu looked equally good and great value for money.

Olio Restaurant

Moulsham and Central, Chelmsford
24/02/2017: Went for my son's 18th birthday ... it could not have been more perfect . Food great , had help choosing an excellent wine ... and service fantastic .What more can we ask for
21/02/2017: I came here with 4 of my friends who had travelled up from Kent to see me so I wanted to make sure that they enjoyed their meals. Olio seemed to be the best place to do this and I need not have worried. We all chose a main course and 4 of us shared 2 desserts as we were so full. The guys serving us were friendly and approachable (as they always are). We had a very enjoyable lunch and would not hesitate to go back. The restaurant is always booked up which speaks volumes I think. Definitely my favourite in Chelmsford!

Paris House

Aspley and Woburn, Central Bedfordshire
23/02/2017: We had lunch and chose the 6 course tasting menu.First the positives. The setting service and all the dishes are perfectly presented and the whole atmosphere is extremely convivial. Each item on each dish is well prepared. The negative is that this is a tasting menu where the quantity of food has shrunk to the smallest we have experienced. We are very familiar with tasting menus as now it almost the only way to eat in Michelin starred we know what to expect. Here the first course of brill was two slivers in a teacup, and most disappointingly the venison "fillet" would have fitted into a teaspoon. All were beautifully presented with equally small drizzles or tiny pieces of vegetable ,each with a burst of flavour. iIn our opinion they had crossed the line from providing a taste experience and lost the meal experience! This is not a request to provide large portions but a request that there is sufficient of each of the key ingredient in each course so that the flavour moment can be prolonged and therefore the whole meal made more satisfying. You do need a certain quantity to maximize the flavour experience and that was lacking.compared to comparable restaurants. The basic cost of the tasting menu is good value but they do push the limits on the extras like cheese course £12, coffee £6, bisque £15 etcit is certainly one of the best restaurants in the region but there are now some really excellent restaurants in the Midlands.
22/02/2017: Special occasions need special attention which we received in bucketloads at the Paris House Chef's table for a birthday treat. The food was fabulous, we had the tasting menu with a different wine for each dish, and what an experience to live and breathe a kitchen that serves art on a plate all evening. Thanks Phil and team for involving us in the show, if only we could have eaten more! PS only invite your loudest friends and family, the kitchen gets noisy - not for whispering sweet nothings. We'll definitely be back.
