Midsummer House

Market, Cambridge
21/08/2017: Went to this restaurant as it was only I have been wanting to visit a for a long time. On arrival we were greeted by a very friendly host who showed us to the garden for a welcome drink (hotels own pink champagne totally recommend) this is where we were served the first amuse botch which were a pleasure in them selves. They changed my chair to make me more comfortable with out any issues or drama just discreetly done. We were spoken to in length about alleges as only of our party has a lactose intolerance. This was taken in to account by the kitchen staff and all courses were amended to reflect this with easy and no issues were made of it.Them made the menu and the dishes themselves look as close to the standard ones as possible so as not to show the other person up with the differences. The staff are the best I have ever come across in these types of restaurant no request was to hard and all requests were done with easy. The maitre d' was a super gentleman with a great friendly and warm welcome which stayed for the whole night and never changed great attribute to the restaurant. The sommelier was super she appeared to pair wine with easy as was very knowledgeable about all wines to a very high standard above what I would of expected she is as good as any master sommelier that I have come across. Recommend some amazing wines that you would not automatically think of. Totally a delight. Recommend a great port as well! The waiting staff were friendly and helpful not issues with anything asked always came across friendly and warm. The all knew of the dietary issues at our table and help and assisted with that in a desecrate manor. The waiter that served the cheese course was very knowledgable about all the products that they had on offer which were all well kept and served at a great temperature to maximum flavour and consistency. One waiter who dealt with us right to the end was a super person knowledgable about everything they had on all menus and recommend a truffle gin that they have which was absolute amazing. The food was out of this world cooked to perfection and presented like mini pictures and with great stories and lovely crockery to match this super location. The building is lovely and well maintained and is so so clean you could eat your dinner off the floor. Thank you to the whole team who made the night such a lonely one. Cannot wait to come back!
17/08/2017: My daughter and I enjoyed a meal here yesterday. We walked across Midsummer Common in the sunshine eagerly anticipating our lunch. We sat in the garden and sipped Champagne, which was accompanied by delicious canapés.The staff are plentiful and charming, especially the head waiter. Service is amazing. We ate our lunch in the conservatory, very pleasant and every table was occupied, mainly by people celebrating birthdays etc.An amuse buche was served before our first course of mackerel, served with apple from the garden. I'm not a fan of mackerel, but this was delicious. We then ate a plaice dish with prawns which we both loved. I then had Guinea fowl which was moist and tender and beautifully served. My daughter enjoyed her vegetarian main course of vegetable Pithiviers. Two puddings followed - both gorgeous, a cherry dessert followed by a strawberry one. Yummy! With our espressos we enjoyed beignets with dipping sauces and were then offered very delicious chocolates made in house. We walked back across the meadow feeling very full, very happy, and will save up to return.

The Old Bank

Snettisham, King's Lynn and West Norfolk, >100£
21/08/2017: Further to my previous review we returned for my husband's birthday dinner with a friend. We were all blown away by the quality, presentation and flavours of the meals we chose. This bistro is a real find, very convenient for us with a great atmosphere and friendly staff. Our friend has since been back for breakfast and we will certainly return. Thank you for a memorable evening
19/08/2017: We had a fantastic evening at The Old Bank. The menu is small but very interesting. Each dish had something memorable about it. I had the duck with seared vegetables which was sensational. I really savoured every mouthful. Desserts were great too, the salt caramel tart was delectable especially with their ice cream. Someone really has a talent, it felt like fine dining but at a reasonableprice.Staff friendly and helpful. My daughter is vegan and the waitress was so excited to tell her about the vegan cake for dessert. Also good for gluten free.We will revisit for breakfast tomorrow. Can't wait.

Vita Bella

Bicknacre and East and West Hanningfield, Chelmsford, 45-60£
22/08/2017: This was our second visit after being taken here by friends for lunch. We were so impressed we had to return. This visit was for dinner with friends to celebrate my birthday. The restaurant is set in a lovely location with ample parking. We were greeted in the car park with a warm welcome. The service here should be a benchmark for how restaurants should treat diners, welcoming, polite, friendly, efficient but not intrusive. On both our visits the food has been of a very high standard. My main of chicken & smoked salmon was new to me and worked well together. When my panda cotta arrived it had a candle in and the waiters sang Happy Birthday to me. A nice touch. All in all a superb dining experience which I highly recommend. We will return.
21/08/2017: I am hard to please so when I am impressed I hear my friends shout hallelujah. I run/organise a diners club, we are all good cooks. We entertain each other at our homes and the following round we each chose a restaurant for the group to dine. My choice was the Vita Bella and didn't I do well or should I say didn't they do well. My fellow gust enjoyed it so much they plan to return with family and friends, as will we. We stayed with the offered lunch time menu. Not knowing the restaurant we wanted to trial it and see what it was all about. VERY, very professional, amazing first class service, lovely food, all by one, who made a poor choice to his personal taste but he too agreed we would be back. I so rarely am bowled over that often my reviews have little praise but this place has won me over , we will be back many times. Thank you Vita Bella I applaud you and trust me I don't do that often!

06/08/2017: Gorgeously presented food, really accommodating for Coeliacs. Nothing was too much trouble and they fully understood cross contamination and explained what could be modified from the menu. Can't wait to return!

black apollo

Holt, North Norfolk
20/08/2017: Not only excellent coffee, but great leaf tea as well. Sandwiches were good as well. No room for cake, but a nice looking selection. Good reason to return. Warm and friendly service.
19/08/2017: My wife and I and some friends of ours really enjoyed our coffee and cake. It's so lovely to find a decent coffee shop in England which offers great coffee and service. We returned again on our holiday and the service was friendly and helpful. I have also bought some coffee beans to take home and the correspondence with Steve the owner via email on recommendations was excellent. We hope your business goes form strength to strength.

The Mulberry

Thetford-Castle, Breckland, 45-60£
16/08/2017: The night before we struck out on a 65+ mile walk, we had the luck to find The Mulberry on a rainy night in Thetford. We made a reservation (necessary) and enjoyed great service, a very nice ambiance and excellent seabream. Recommend.
14/08/2017: This charming place came highly recommended and it didn't disappoint. We had a delicious meal - fresh fish cooked perfectly and beautifully presented - and the only REAL pannacotta I have ever tasted outside of Italy. The atmosphere in the glassed-in dining room was welcoming and relaxing. This is a great place.

The Buxhall Crown

Onehouse, Mid Suffolk, 20-30£
21/08/2017: Fantastic, landlord was 5 star . Gentleman.
08/08/2017: My husband and I ate here mid week. Everything was excellent, from beginning to end. Pleasant staff, good service, superb food and lovely surroundings. The best meal we have had in a long time, booked to go back. Need I say more !

Quayside Plaza

Nelson, Great Yarmouth, <20£
09/08/2017: The food is predominately Portuguese and very tasty. I had a rump steak with Parma ham and although it could have had a couple of extra minutes cooking it was extremely tasty. The wine was also a Portuguese red and was a close flavour to a Rioja. Deserts were all very different than most restaurants and I recommend a visit.
09/08/2017: I took over the whole restaurant and we had a Summer Solstice evening. Angelo and his team provided a first class meal. We had 43 friends and 26 of them had steak cooked in various ways and each one was delicious according to the recipients. Angelo always gives first class service and this evening was no exception. The service is attentive but not obtrusive and the food superb as always. We are frequent users of Quayside but we took several friends who had not been before. They have since been back and some actually made a point of contacting Quayside tbe following day to pass on their praise about the quality of the food.Well done once again Angelo superb as always See you soon and thank you x

Thai Up At The Quay

Harwich East, Tendring, 30-45£
17/08/2017: My wife and I had a 2 night break in hotel just around the corner from here and fancied something spicy. A lovely restaurant with a good atmosphere. Very friendly and helpful staff. We had a 1 portion of chicken wings to start which were nice enough. Pad Thai, jungle curry and rice. Curry hot but we like spicy food so it was fine. A bottle of wine saw the bill come in at £48. Compared with our local restaurants in hornchurch, it was more expensive and to be honest not quite as good. Still worth a visit though.
16/08/2017: Visited tonight for the first time ever with a work collegue from Holland. Very impressed with food and service.

Maison Bleue Restaurant

Abbeygate, St Edmundsbury
18/08/2017: Had a fantastic meal last night at Maison Bleue. Everything I chose was cooked to perfection and the welcome from the staff second to none. Just wish I lived nearer so that I could vist more often.
17/08/2017: Well located with good parking close by. Relaxing atmosphere with modern formal French decor. All staff are French and you feel in France. The wine selection is wide enough with a range of prices and delicious wine. The menu is a gastronomic delight with a wide selection of fixed menu or a la carte dishes. Affordable luxury.

Bure River Cottage Restaurant

St Benet, North Norfolk, >100£
17/08/2017: We have been trying to book a table at this fish / seafood restaurant for ages, and finally managed to get in last night. We have heard nothing but good reviews of the place, and were not disappointed in any way.The staff were friendly and attentive, the menu was great, and the food was excellent.I can't recommend it highly enough, and we will definitely be back.
09/08/2017: Learned our lesson on this years holiday and saved the best till last. In the past we have dined here mid week then been disappointed in everything we've eaten after! The recipe of fresh seafood and fantastically cooked vegetables is perfect here. Lovely setting in our fave village- This is a real treat. Good food, wine and service. I particularly enjoyed my pate, the kids loved mackerel goujons and my seabream and cheesecake were out of this world. This is possibly my all time favourite place to eat weve returned year on year and i'm already looking forward to next summer's visit. Thanks x

Mrs Salisburys Famous Tea Rooms

Maldon North, Maldon
22/08/2017: What a lovely, cosy and friendly place this is. We booked afternoon tea for my mum, who turned 82 and we wanted to do something nice for her. We had a table for 5 people and were served by a very friendly and attentive team. When asked about drinks choices, my mum cheekily said she'd love a Baileys, as it was her birthday, so they sorted that for her! When the tea was presented, it was done on a lovely tiered tray, with a good selection of sandwiches, cakes and pastries. I would suggest that if you have plain tastes, let the team know when you book - they do ask about dietry requirements, of course - as you may well get a more adventurous selection than you would normally choose. Having said that, we loved the selection offered, which was Camembert and apple, smoked salmon, roast beef and horseradish and prawn with chilli sauce. I did overhear that chicken and mayonnaise or egg mayonnaise were on offer, too.The cakes were just to die for. I have a sweet tooth, but the choice of 5 cakes and pastries, as well as a few macaroons, actually beat me. But then you can ask for a box to take away any you can't manage.Overall, very good value for money and we will definitely be back. they made my mum's birthday special, so thank you to all.
18/08/2017: Beautiful setting just off the high street away from the hustle and bustle. Lunch very nicely presented and tasty.

Pamela's Restaurant

Nelson, Great Yarmouth, 30-45£
20/08/2017: Another fabulous evening.Thank you Val Mimi and the team. You excelled yet again. The Tiramisu and the Bellini brûlée were a little bit of heaven on a plate.
17/08/2017: Visited Pamela's for a joint birthday celebration. The restaurant was a little difficult to find but once inside it was like stepping from diagon alley into Harry Potter world! Service was attentive from the moment you stepped through the door, a sofa was prepared with aperitifs and drinks. The decor was stunning and completely unexpected from the outside. Food was absolutely delicious: I had the courgette flower to start, followed by the seared salmon and finished with the peach creme brûlée. Utterly delicious. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will be visiting again.

Olio Restaurant

Moulsham and Central, Chelmsford
19/08/2017: Love this place. Food is always really good, decent wine list and very friendly and attentive waiters.Would recommend to anyone wanting good Italian food.
18/08/2017: Utilised Trip Advisor to find a restaurant in Chelmsford that wasn't Jamie's Italian for a change. Rather an unassuming place form the outside, little did we know. Only on a lunchtime mission we definitely return for a full go in the evening. Service very good indeed, attentive without being obsequious. house red is inform and perfectly adequate as one might expect. The food however was fabulous, I'm a sucker for a good linguine and Olio's Linguine Gamberoni is much more than good. It's the best I've ever had, and also one where counting the prawns isn't necessary. Excellent food perfectly balanced and full of flavour. My partners Risotto al Pollo was also pronounced delicious. Not cheap but not expensive either for food and service of this quality.Only problem - we don't live close enough to visit every week. It's that good...

The Shed

St Andrews, Great Yarmouth
16/08/2017: I went back to the shed to have a meal with my beautiful wife on our 11th wedding anniversary. The service is fantastic as well as the food. We both had starters and main of which mine was mussels in a creamy white wine sauce. It was a good portion size and very tasty. We both had fillet steak with blue cheese sauce and both were cooked to perfection. The service was great and the chef always chatty and polite throughout the night. I've spoken to many people about this restaurant and have never heard a bad review. I truly believe the very few bad reviews on here about poor service and the chef not confident in his steaks are absolute nonsense. The shed would not have its brilliant reputation if the chef couldn't cook a steak. I'm a firm believer in that you can't please everyone and that some of the bad and poor reviews are from people who make mountains out of mole hills. If I had to chose one restaurant in Gorleston to eat, it would be the shed.
26/07/2017: Without doubt the best meal we have ever had, took my in laws and they said they would add it to their best memories... thank you for making it so wonderful
