Midsummer House

Market, Cambridge
17/03/2017: Exquisite food. Fabulous service. Personal touch. Words cannot describe how amazing the experience is. You must try it for yourself.
17/03/2017: The evening tasting menu blew our minds, with flavours, textures and visual delights. All staff were friendly and attentive - particular mention for Maitre d' Marc, and our charming someliere. We were taken on a world tour with a different wine for each course, perfectly matched to the food. The best attention since we had the menu gastronimique at the Grand Monarch in Chartres on our honeymoon forty five years ago.

black apollo

Holt, North Norfolk
16/03/2017: A lovely environment, brilliant coffee, friendly service - a great coffee experience all round, wholly recommended.
13/03/2017: Lovely little coffee shop which serves the best coffee I have had in a UK coffee shop. You may have to pay a few pence more, but when the quality is that good it doesn't matter

St Benedicts Restaurant

Mancroft, Norwich, 30-45£
18/03/2017: Our first time at Benedicts. We're both vegetarians and that can at times prove difficult but not here. Fantastic vegetarian tasting menus. Best food we've ever eaten. Nice atmosphere, lovely staff, no pretensions.
18/03/2017: This is our fourth time at Benedict's since it opened and each time has been great, but we especially enjoyed our most recent visit last week. The greeting at Benedict's is always warm and it makes you feel settled and relaxed quickly. We opted for the 6 course menu (one veggie, one regular) with wine flight. The snacks at the start of the meal are great, the sherry mousse is literally the tastiest thing in the world ever. Each course was lovely, but particular highlights from the meal were the salsify spaghetti - incredibly moreish - the rhubarb and custard pre-dessert, and the chocolate praline tart (which they kindly substituted for another dessert). The praline tart was absolutely incredible and the hazelnut ice cream was the best we've had. The wine pairings were great too, each enhanced the dish we were eating and the helpings are generous too so it is good value. The service was great, attentive but not fussy, and we can't wait for our next trip.

The Shed

St Andrews, Great Yarmouth
19/03/2017: If you want to go to this restaurant, you have to book well in advance as it only seats 16. It is, as the name suggests, in a shed but with pretty decor and amazing food. We had fantastic garlic prawns to start followed by sea bass and skate. All excellent. They do also do steaks and burgers but we went specifically for the fish and were not disappointed. If you're near Gorleston, do try this unique restaurant.
19/03/2017: My own shed is even better looking than this one, but as soon as you enter the atmosphere and quality of the service is memorable, and then you are just amazed by the menu and the choice of dishes. We were there as 2 couples and we picked 4 different starters ( monkfish, scallops, muscles and spare ribs ) to share as "tapas" . We then all chose fish as our main course. The number of different fresh fishes available was quite amazing. No doubt whatsoever that this is the no 1 restaurant in Gorleston

Quayside Plaza

Nelson, Great Yarmouth, <20£
19/03/2017: My son took me here for an early Mother's Day treat last night. As usual the service was first class and the food is the best in Great Yarmouth. I tried the Pork and Clams - absolutely delicious. This is definitely my favourite restaurant in Great Yarmouth. Very reasonably priced too.
13/03/2017: Visiting Great Yarmoth with a group of friends, we found this gem of a restaurant via Tripadvisor.Despite some intitial confusion over whether we had booked a table or not (we hadn't) - they managed to find us a table on a booked out evening, and boy am I glad they did!The food was divine, from the steaks, to the complimentary bread. The atmosphere was perfect, with live music in the Saturday night really complimenting the service. From the food that we had, to the service, and the atmosphere the whole experience made for an extremely enjoyable meal - I can only say I wish we'd booked and been able to stay longer!

Vita Bella

Bicknacre and East and West Hanningfield, Chelmsford, 45-60£
19/03/2017: Went for a nice family midweek meal and thoroughly enjoyed it. When you arrive at the restaurant there is an attendant to help keep the car park organised and give you a warm welcome before you even enter the restaurant. Once inside you are greeted to a warm reception and shown to your table. All staff and friendly and make you feel welcome. We ordered a variety of items including veal, lamb and pasta. The food was very nice, well cooked and tasty. The bolognese served with the veal was delicious. Portion sizes are slightly small but could have just been we was enjoying so much we wanted more of everything! Thoroughly recommend for a special occasion as they really do make you feel welcome.
18/03/2017: We were recommended this restaurant, we were not disappointed in any way. I have been to quite a few Italian restaurants and must say, this is the best I've been to outside of Italy. Great food, great staff, great service. Will be back here again in the future.

Pamela's Restaurant

Nelson, Great Yarmouth, 30-45£
18/03/2017: Firstly Cocktails, it took 10 minutes for us to be served 3 cocktails and one bottle beer , one at a time, very frustrating. Staff not attentive, in fact heads down so as to not give eye contact. Husband had to go up to bar to re-order beer. Secondly...Amuse Bouche... Black pudding and potato, would have been delicious hot, cold ugh. Up to restaurant...service excellent!!! Starter...Fill Prawn basket, much to largeMain...Tornados Rossini ...if serving a classic, keep it a classic Dessert...why oh why did we need jelly lips and Darth Vader s on plates, same with lipstick jelly ??? So let down the class of restaurant.Lemon meringue pie, no glaze and straight from fridge.Fourth visit in as many years, standards are dropping in some areas which is such a shame.Would we go again, sorry no. Unfortunately when spoke to others who have visited lately, same conclusion ... disappointing
16/03/2017: what a superb restaurant. from the welcome when we arrived to the end of our evening everything was perfect. The staff were lovely, very attentive. the meal was superb. thank you so much for everything. we will certainly be back and of course we have already recommended to others.

Maison Bleue Restaurant

Abbeygate, St Edmundsbury
18/03/2017: I booked a table for 6, for two of my brothers, myself and our wives. we were seated in the window area around a table for 6 with ample room. It is my favorite table but I did not request it. We were warmly greeted by mine host , coats taken and shown to our table.Aperitifs were ordered and the menus handed out, we all took the evening menu as everything on it was to our liking. A house little tapas was served whilst we perused the menu. The wine list would suit every taste and price level, something for everyone. The food although this is known as a superb fish restaurant had a good choice for the carnivores amongst us. One of our party is gluten intolerant, the staff were so helpful and without making a song and dance made sure everything she ordered was too her liking. Fantastic. everybody was complimentary about the food, the service, the atmosphere and general ambience. They all wished they lived nearer us.We done Maison Bleue, you deserve all the accolades you receive.
17/03/2017: We were recommended to eat here by family friends and we were not disappointed. Our welcome was charming and we were soon seated with glasses of chilled champagne while we perused the menu. We were spoilt for choice and were not disappointed with our final selections. Very fine sophisticated cooking from the Chef/owner. Excellent wines by the glass. All in all it was a charming way to celebrate a birthday.

Mrs Salisburys Famous Tea Rooms

Maldon North, Maldon
19/03/2017: Had the best afternoon tea, very fresh and wonderful cakes. lovely place, lovely staff and very reasonable.
14/03/2017: We stayed in one of the self catering apartments - it was brilliant! Very well presented, well stocked with kitchen stuff - not that we used much as so much choice in Maldon. Unfortunately the tea room is shut on a monday somwe couldn't sample that :(

The Galley

Seckford, Suffolk Coastal
12/03/2017: I decided to book The Galley for a birthday meal after enjoying a lovely evening at the restaurant four years ago. The food was even better than I remembered, and the owner Ugur was just as welcoming. It's obvious how much he cares about the restaurant and he went out of his way to accommodate our needs. My wife has a lactose intolerance, but he was happy to change the sauce that came with her pan-fried chicken breast, and said that the mashed potato could be switched for rice. For dessert, her mascarpone was swapped for raspberry sorbet, and it still paired fantastically with the figs and apricots. All of our food was well-presented, cooked to perfection and full of fantastic flavours. It was also incredibly well-priced, with our bill coming to under £200 for five people, including a £30 bottle of Rioja. The layout of the restaurant makes for a pleasant atmosphere, although we were the only people left at 10pm, which was odd for a Saturday night. However, it certainly wouldn't deter us from another visit. Fantastic food and service at an affordable price. What more could you ask for?
12/03/2017: Ugur and the team do nothing but make you feel welcome and we'll looked after. The food is stunning, the wine is well chosen to complement the dishes, and for three courses the portions are just right. We love coming here and try to make it over from Essex a few times per year, especially for lobster week!

Morston Hall Restaurant

Glaven Valley, North Norfolk, 60-100£
15/03/2017: Spending a week in north Norfolk so I booked dinner to celebrate my husband's birthday. Our first impression was one of surprise as the drive to the car park was riddled with pots holes! You really need to get that sorted. Guests are advised to arrive at 7.15 for sit down at 8pm. We ate on a Saturday and every table appeared to be occupied. This meant that everyone was eating each course at much the same time but the service was such that this did not result in any delays other than the cheese course because there was only one trolley. The food was excellent. Amazing combinations and flavours so top marks there. My only slightly negative observation was how small the courses were. We have dined at several Michelin restaurants and by comparison these portions came up small. Still with seven courses and then cheese we didn't go hungry. The female sommelier was lovely and the flight of wines were perfect. With coffee my husband was presented with a chocolate cake with 'Happy Birthday' piped on the plate. A lovely touch. As to previous comments about decor; this is a country house hotel with restaurant. We found it perfectly charming and relaxed.
13/03/2017: Have been meant to go for some time but finally booked a night and dinner there for my wife and I, fabulous room and position and what turned out to be a great meal, would have preferred a slightly slower pace, another five minutes between course would have been great. Breakfast was slower but excellent and definitely will return. A Michelin in East Anglia something to treasure

Hayward's Restaurant

Epping Hemnall, Epping Forest
19/03/2017: This was our second visit to the restaurant and we had dinner on a Friday night. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. The detail, quality of food, and cooking is amazing. We had 3 courses along with little taster dishes that come out in between and it was all very delicious. I told the restaurant about my dairy intolerance and they were super accommodating too. The restaurant is expensive but we don't mind treating ourselves for special occasions.
16/03/2017: Just decided to go to this restaurant and booked us a dinner. They called us before our visit to find out if we had any special requirements. I informed them about my partner's vegetarian preference, it was duly noted . The dinner started with some very delicious small starters (I wish there were more), but in retrospect, I wouldnt have had any space for the 3 course dinner. The starter was excellent scallops and the main was delicious monk fish tails. This was followed by a delicious dessert. The vegetarian menu was superb. The chef had put in a lot of effort to make the food and the taste definitely conveyed the fine quality inputs. All in all, we are going there again. Its a very relaxed environment with very friendly and helpful staff. This restaurant can easily be rated among the best.

Ristorante Il Piccolo Mondo

Bottisham, East Cambridgeshire
19/03/2017: You have to book well in advance, but it being our 47th wedding anniversary my wife thought ahead and did so! A lovely lunch: Bresaolo, then she had their signature dish of spaghetti with lobster which was delicious. It's a great location, very nice service, and a happy place for an anniversary. Hoping to go again the next time we have an occasion to celebrate.
14/03/2017: What a fabulous restaurant. I can't say more than fabulous food, fabulous atmosphere, fabulous staff. I LIKED IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Mulberry

Thetford-Castle, Breckland, 45-60£
19/03/2017: I had a great time here we had dessert before the main just to see if they would do it. Without hesitation they let us eat our sweets before the real meal. I had the lamb w/ bean mash and green beans, it was cook to perfection the only thing that I would love is mint sauce to go with it. My wife had the steak cook med rare with a small salad the steak took the whole plate and was also cook to perfection. Service was very welcoming, kind and patient. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a nice place to eat.
13/03/2017: We went for a meal with our friends on a Saturday evening. We sat in the conservatory which was very pleasant. The men had a starter but my friend and I gave it a miss as we like the deserts. The main meal was wonderful,Chris and I had fish which was so fresh and white on a bed of spinach mash.It was cooked to perfection. The other two had lamb and said it was delicious. We all chose a different desert and everyone was pleased. My friend and I shared two so we could have a taste of each.A nice touch was a glass of Proseco on arrival. We all enjoyed the evening and will return.

Thai Up At The Quay

Harwich East, Tendring, 30-45£
18/03/2017: My husband and I wanted to try something different. Found this place with really good reviews and it was Thai which we love but don't have often. It's an hr and 20mns from home but it was definitely worth the drive!Very cute cottage style restaurant tucked away just off the quay in Harwich Run but husband and wife duo. Wife is Thai and the chef and the owner was front of house.Front of house was very welcoming and friendly, the service was always with a smile and you just felt at home. The food was something to behold. Stunning, fragrant, incredibly fresh and very authentically Thai. It was simply delicious and we would definitely go back. Chef came out to thank of us travelling such a long way and it was such a sweet gesture. It was lovely meeting the talented chef.We had Tom Yum soup, tempura king prawns, fried squid tubes, Thai green curry and the Penang curry. All super delicious and we were stuffed! Got doggy bags - bonus! We will definitely be going back!
15/03/2017: Love , love , love this place. The staff are amazing, the food is great. Nothing is to much trouble. We had 3 starters, 3 mains , drinks and banana fritters ! All for £84. My husband loves his spicy food, so if that is your thing then try the jungle curry !! We love this place, it's the best Thai food we have had. The staff even take the time to know what you like and recommend other dishes you might like. You definitely need to book, as is very popular.
