Midsummer House

Market, Cambridge
17/03/2017: Exquisite food. Fabulous service. Personal touch. Words cannot describe how amazing the experience is. You must try it for yourself.
17/03/2017: The evening tasting menu blew our minds, with flavours, textures and visual delights. All staff were friendly and attentive - particular mention for Maitre d' Marc, and our charming someliere. We were taken on a world tour with a different wine for each course, perfectly matched to the food. The best attention since we had the menu gastronimique at the Grand Monarch in Chartres on our honeymoon forty five years ago.

Vita Bella

Bicknacre and East and West Hanningfield, Chelmsford, 45-60£
19/03/2017: Went for a nice family midweek meal and thoroughly enjoyed it. When you arrive at the restaurant there is an attendant to help keep the car park organised and give you a warm welcome before you even enter the restaurant. Once inside you are greeted to a warm reception and shown to your table. All staff and friendly and make you feel welcome. We ordered a variety of items including veal, lamb and pasta. The food was very nice, well cooked and tasty. The bolognese served with the veal was delicious. Portion sizes are slightly small but could have just been we was enjoying so much we wanted more of everything! Thoroughly recommend for a special occasion as they really do make you feel welcome.
18/03/2017: We were recommended this restaurant, we were not disappointed in any way. I have been to quite a few Italian restaurants and must say, this is the best I've been to outside of Italy. Great food, great staff, great service. Will be back here again in the future.

Thai Up At The Quay

Harwich East, Tendring, 30-45£
18/03/2017: My husband and I wanted to try something different. Found this place with really good reviews and it was Thai which we love but don't have often. It's an hr and 20mns from home but it was definitely worth the drive!Very cute cottage style restaurant tucked away just off the quay in Harwich Run but husband and wife duo. Wife is Thai and the chef and the owner was front of house.Front of house was very welcoming and friendly, the service was always with a smile and you just felt at home. The food was something to behold. Stunning, fragrant, incredibly fresh and very authentically Thai. It was simply delicious and we would definitely go back. Chef came out to thank of us travelling such a long way and it was such a sweet gesture. It was lovely meeting the talented chef.We had Tom Yum soup, tempura king prawns, fried squid tubes, Thai green curry and the Penang curry. All super delicious and we were stuffed! Got doggy bags - bonus! We will definitely be going back!
15/03/2017: Love , love , love this place. The staff are amazing, the food is great. Nothing is to much trouble. We had 3 starters, 3 mains , drinks and banana fritters ! All for £84. My husband loves his spicy food, so if that is your thing then try the jungle curry !! We love this place, it's the best Thai food we have had. The staff even take the time to know what you like and recommend other dishes you might like. You definitely need to book, as is very popular.

Maison Bleue Restaurant

Abbeygate, St Edmundsbury
18/03/2017: I booked a table for 6, for two of my brothers, myself and our wives. we were seated in the window area around a table for 6 with ample room. It is my favorite table but I did not request it. We were warmly greeted by mine host , coats taken and shown to our table.Aperitifs were ordered and the menus handed out, we all took the evening menu as everything on it was to our liking. A house little tapas was served whilst we perused the menu. The wine list would suit every taste and price level, something for everyone. The food although this is known as a superb fish restaurant had a good choice for the carnivores amongst us. One of our party is gluten intolerant, the staff were so helpful and without making a song and dance made sure everything she ordered was too her liking. Fantastic. everybody was complimentary about the food, the service, the atmosphere and general ambience. They all wished they lived nearer us.We done Maison Bleue, you deserve all the accolades you receive.
17/03/2017: We were recommended to eat here by family friends and we were not disappointed. Our welcome was charming and we were soon seated with glasses of chilled champagne while we perused the menu. We were spoilt for choice and were not disappointed with our final selections. Very fine sophisticated cooking from the Chef/owner. Excellent wines by the glass. All in all it was a charming way to celebrate a birthday.

Morston Hall Restaurant

Glaven Valley, North Norfolk, 60-100£
15/03/2017: Spending a week in north Norfolk so I booked dinner to celebrate my husband's birthday. Our first impression was one of surprise as the drive to the car park was riddled with pots holes! You really need to get that sorted. Guests are advised to arrive at 7.15 for sit down at 8pm. We ate on a Saturday and every table appeared to be occupied. This meant that everyone was eating each course at much the same time but the service was such that this did not result in any delays other than the cheese course because there was only one trolley. The food was excellent. Amazing combinations and flavours so top marks there. My only slightly negative observation was how small the courses were. We have dined at several Michelin restaurants and by comparison these portions came up small. Still with seven courses and then cheese we didn't go hungry. The female sommelier was lovely and the flight of wines were perfect. With coffee my husband was presented with a chocolate cake with 'Happy Birthday' piped on the plate. A lovely touch. As to previous comments about decor; this is a country house hotel with restaurant. We found it perfectly charming and relaxed.
13/03/2017: Have been meant to go for some time but finally booked a night and dinner there for my wife and I, fabulous room and position and what turned out to be a great meal, would have preferred a slightly slower pace, another five minutes between course would have been great. Breakfast was slower but excellent and definitely will return. A Michelin in East Anglia something to treasure

Olio Restaurant

Moulsham and Central, Chelmsford
18/03/2017: Visited this restaurant last night. To be honest the booking was only made about 5 hours before we sat down. From the outside this restaurant belies what is inside. Deceptively spacious inside. Very warm welcome from the staff. Was shown to our table downstairs and had a tableNot once did we feel rushed at all. Have to say. The menu is absolutely fist class. Really good variety of meals to suit all tastes.I had the Monkfish. Mouth-watering and extremely delicious. All the meals that my family ordered was hot. Cooked perfectly and so delicious. I could not recommend this restaurant highly enough. Good honest food. Cooked perfectly in very pleasant surroundings and very reasonably priced. We are going to book another table for my daughters birthday in a few weeks timePlease try this restaurant for ourself. You will not be disappointed. We certainly wasn't 5 star rating in my book
15/03/2017: Very friendly and helpful staff (just the right degree of attentiveness) the food is great and the atmosphere upstairs is good. Downstairs is not so charming, but that's a reflection on the building not the restaurant or staff. Always happy to return and am pleased to see the owners have another venue planned in the nearby village of Writtle.

The Duck Inn

Docking, King's Lynn and West Norfolk
18/03/2017: Wow, what can I say,,, greeted with such warmth, we were given a lovely welcome by all the staff, the food was absolutely delicious, we were treated so lovely, even diners at the restaurant wished us girls happy birthdays, and a lovely gentleman bought us a bottle of champagne to help us celebrate. We couldn't have asked for a better evening, in a fantastic restaurant, with super staff. All the staff went above and beyond to make our evening very special, and oh boy, it was superb. If I could rate this place higher, I certainly would.Thank you to all at The Duck InnWe love you xxx
15/03/2017: One of our favourite places for lunch; we come back here for a lazy lunch from time to time. Even mid week it is advisable to book because it is so popular. Not rushed, the service is tailored to your mood and we were in no hurry. There are two menus, the "specials" and the a la carte. We mixed and matched from the two, both featuring local produce, imaginatively served. For starters, two of us chose the goats cheese, one the beef carpaccio and one the crab salad. All three were very good. For main course, two chose the hake which was enormous, beautifully cooked and served with mashed potato and broccoli; one chose the prosaic ham egg and chips and was absolutely delighted by the taste (and size) of the meal. The fourth person chose the ox liver served with mash, onion and bacon bits and savoy cabbage; really good and filling. It was gratifying to see that the Duck does not follow the current trend in fine dining by serving tiny portions; this was fine dining with good sized portions (probably minimising the quantity of desserts sold!). However, we also enjoyed desserts; lemon sorbet, affogato, and chocolate brownie pie followed by Americano coffees.Arriving soon after midday, we left, very satisfied, a couple of hours later. Highly recommended.

Ristorante Il Piccolo Mondo

Bottisham, East Cambridgeshire
19/03/2017: You have to book well in advance, but it being our 47th wedding anniversary my wife thought ahead and did so! A lovely lunch: Bresaolo, then she had their signature dish of spaghetti with lobster which was delicious. It's a great location, very nice service, and a happy place for an anniversary. Hoping to go again the next time we have an occasion to celebrate.
14/03/2017: What a fabulous restaurant. I can't say more than fabulous food, fabulous atmosphere, fabulous staff. I LIKED IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Cuckoo

Chelmsford Rural West, Chelmsford
18/03/2017: Took our daughters here for a 14th birthday party on an early evening sitting at 6pm. What a great GASTRO-PUB!!!! Wonderful food, decent value, great relaxed ambience and plenty of parking. Only missing a cuckoo clock on the wall to keep its namesake....
18/03/2017: Ok, here goes! As someone who has worked in some of Londons best restaurants Im a tricky customer but The Cuckoo is an example to of great british cooking and an how good gastropubs should be!! The owner was lovely and made to feel very welcome. Will be back again, thank you!!

St Benedicts Restaurant

Mancroft, Norwich, 30-45£
18/03/2017: Our first time at Benedicts. We're both vegetarians and that can at times prove difficult but not here. Fantastic vegetarian tasting menus. Best food we've ever eaten. Nice atmosphere, lovely staff, no pretensions.
18/03/2017: This is our fourth time at Benedict's since it opened and each time has been great, but we especially enjoyed our most recent visit last week. The greeting at Benedict's is always warm and it makes you feel settled and relaxed quickly. We opted for the 6 course menu (one veggie, one regular) with wine flight. The snacks at the start of the meal are great, the sherry mousse is literally the tastiest thing in the world ever. Each course was lovely, but particular highlights from the meal were the salsify spaghetti - incredibly moreish - the rhubarb and custard pre-dessert, and the chocolate praline tart (which they kindly substituted for another dessert). The praline tart was absolutely incredible and the hazelnut ice cream was the best we've had. The wine pairings were great too, each enhanced the dish we were eating and the helpings are generous too so it is good value. The service was great, attentive but not fussy, and we can't wait for our next trip.

Black Lion Hotel Restaurant

Walsingham, North Norfolk
17/03/2017: Have visited quite a few times for a meal at lunch time, usually choosing fish or meat free meals. Smaller menu but always good range of dishes, great quality, nicely cooked food served in very pleasant surroundings.
12/03/2017: In the area for a couple of days and recommended to eat at the Black Lion. So glad did the food was very good and the service first class and helpful without being intrusive. Not a large menu selection but really tasty food.

Stoke Mill Contemporary Fine Dining

Stoke Holy Cross, South Norfolk, 30-45£
18/03/2017: My wife is Ceoliac and was catered for extremely well. Nothing was too much trouble and she said the food was the best she had tasted at a restaurant since being diagnosed with her condition. We cannot praise the staff highly enough, both front of house and the chef Andy who found time to speak to us during his busy service. Andy told us that all his food is cooked from scratch, with very little flour used and he caters for all dietary requirements. We will certainly return again. Fine dining is advertised and that is exactly what you got. If you are ceoliac give them a visit, you won't be disappointed. It was surprise after surprise for the little finishing touches that make it such a memorable dining experience. Other restaurants in Norwich/Norfolk should take a leaf out of their book, they wouldn't go far wrong.
17/03/2017: Superb setting, food, staff. Party aged from 11 to 70 years. Loved everything about the night. Many memorable moments made. Well done!

Shillingfords at the Quay Theatre Sudbury

Sudbury South, Babergh, <20£
10/03/2017: This was our second time, some four months apart. Booking for the third time now, probably three to four months from now. If you love excellent food and wine, this is gourmet cooking at an affordable price.
22/02/2017: This pop-up weekends-only restaurant is a bit special, serving local produce and fresh, locally-foraged foods, such as wild mushrooms and samphire and various leafy greens gathered from the countryside. It's on the top floor of the Quay Theatre so you can combine a meal with a visit to see a show. We were greeted warmly and the details of the menu explained to us. The restaurant is small but nicely furnished, and there was pleasant background music playing while we ate. Service was good, there was an intimate and cosy atmosphere, and the food - although sometimes surprising in appearance - was excellent! We will be back for more!

Eastgate, St Edmundsbury
13/03/2017: The important parts first:The food has tasted great every time I have been there, is well priced and the staff are friendly but not in your face and fake!A bit more in depth:It's easy to get to if you are visiting the main shops around the market area so you don't need to take a massive detour if you are out shopping and want a brew and munchies to.My wife is really fussy when it comes to places to eat, so the fact we go there as often as we can pretty much says it all!The only draw back I have found is due to its small floor space you often have to book in advance if you want to eat at a specific time. The menu is varied and the portions are a good size, plus there is good selection of takeaway munchies at the counter if you can't stop. All in all well worth a visit.
12/03/2017: Restaurant was full so we had to wait for a table to become free. Well worth the wait, which was short, because the food was excellent. Varied menu to suit all tastes, including vegetarians.

grosvenor fish bar

Mancroft, Norwich, <20£
19/03/2017: I had the cheeky cod - battered cod and chips with mint lemon mayo - was absolutely delicious and service was excellent. Not to be missed!
16/03/2017: Great Chippy, staff excellant, great value for money. we had a great evening celebrating a 40th birthday with a fish and chip supper, the staff were very helpful and help decorate the room which we had all to ourselves.
