The Goring Dining Room

8 offers
St James's, City of London,Westminster
18/03/2017: Dined two days running, Same peculiar menu. Not really my choice. Desserts not enticing.. Delay between starter and main course.
18/03/2017: Another excellent lunch at The Goring for a special birthday with my wife. We didn't tell them to avoid any fuss but the service was faultless and friendly.Superbly cooked and presented food and some rather nice if pricey drinks. The Goring dining room is probably my favourite lunch venue in town. The bar is also a convivial haunt.Diners tend to be towards the mature end of the age spectrum and there are always a few minor celebrities as well as current or former politicians. Once witnessed Thatcher process into the room with an entourage and one guest even curtsied!!

The Ritz Restaurant

St James's, City of London,Westminster
18/03/2017: I visited the Ritz restaurant for the second time last week, using a voucher that was given to me and my partner as a Christmas present. It included a three course meal, a welcome glass of champagne, and two glasses of wine each.It is advertised as "champagne on arrival", however they obviously forgot. After twenty minutes we reminded them, then the waiter bright it out out, and said "here's your champagne to welcome you" in an attempt to cover their oversight! My starter was a mushroom dish. I would describe the broth as slightly superior to an oxo cube, but only slightly. I had lamb for the main course. It was ok, albeit slightly bland, and a tiny portion! There was no veg, so it felt incomplete to me, and not particularly nutritious. The staff were friendly, and the ambience was of course great. But I was disappointed with the overall experience this time.
17/03/2017: We visited The Ritz on the 18th February for Live At The Ritz. What can I say other than WOW. From the moment we walked in to the moment we left, the staff were attentive and friendly, the food was amazing and the entertainment was excellent. We arrived early with the intention to have a glass of champagne but there was a queue of people waiting to go into the bar, a very helpful member of staff showed us to a seat and brought our drinks to save us waiting and made us feel very welcome. We were then shown to our very nice table in the restaurant where we were seated adjacent to each other rather than opposite whdere we could talk easily and both look towards the band and dance floor. We chose the set 4 course option and asked the sommelier if he could provide matched wines. This is not normally provided on a Saturday night but he kindly obliged and I have to say, his selections perfectly matched each course. It really helped enhance our overall experience. The food was outstanding as was the service of the all the staff. They were very professional and friendly, a combination often not often found in high end establishments. The presence of the live band also added to our enjoyment of the evening as we danced the night away. Overall a fantastic night out, what I would call a proper posh night out. Well done to the Ritz, you got it spot on!

Gauthier Soho

West End, City of London,Westminster, 60-100£
17/07/2017: Great PETA award winning vegan tasting menu. Reasonably placed, cosy setting, great service and food. The promotion of vegetarian/vegan recipes e.g. the cute little leaflet in the toilets are brilliant. Highly recommended.
17/07/2017: Really good. Fantastic food, amazing service, exquisite wine, very good price for the level of food and service you get. I have been going there for 3 years and was never disappointed, quite the opposite they have managed to get even better.

Clos Maggiore

St James's, City of London,Westminster, 45-60£
18/03/2017: Had to book some months in advance and go for a later dinner but definitely worth the wait. Food was delicious and the service was second to none. Sommelier and Maitre d in particular deserve a special mention. Their knowledge was superb but never once did we feel patronised. Recommended if you're after a special night out in a special location
18/03/2017: Dined here several times, can never fault the service nor the food and well don't get me started on the wine choice, everything has been well balanced to compliment each other. Always remember to book well in advance!

Le Gavroche

West End, City of London,Westminster
16/03/2017: Visited with friends and we had the 3 course business lunch. £66 including half a bottle of wine and water each. The food was exceptional and on a par with The Waterside Inn. The service was excellent. The meal included an amuse bouche and petits fours and coffee. I will be back here for another visit for sure even though the waiting list is long. If you can get to visit this restaurant I thoroughly recommend it.

The staff gave us great time and the food was perfect. If you are in London even if you don't go to the opera don't miss this ones in a life time deal.Well deserved two Michael stars GREAT!!!!

La Trompette

Turnham Green, Hounslow, 60-100£
19/03/2017: The menu was large The quality of the food was stunning ,the wine list was amazing the staff was attentives .The manager Tanggy is the star ,he has a lot of knowledge, smiling and good advice about wine ! I recommend scallops ,john Dory. And desert Yorkshire rhubarb .and porc .May be Petra could smile more for welcome !
17/03/2017: Another excellent experience at La Trompette. The squid to start was devine, delicate but wonderfully flavoured. My wife and I split the cote de beouf, which was perfectly cooked and had a wonderfully smoky flavour. And a classic tarte tatin to round it off. Just perfect!

Chez Bruce

Nightingale, Wandsworth
19/03/2017: Went here with my girlfriend as a part of her birthday gift. We were not disappointed!First off we were offered a warm Parmesan biscuit, and we new that it would be a good night! It was very good!We were offered a salmon canapé for a small fee while waiting for our starters, this was also very good. Off to a good start! The staff was very attentive, and we got our starters very quickly. We had what can be described as high end pulled pork dish and a rainbow trout with fennel which were both gorgeous. The mains, duck, and cod were both packed with flavour, I had a glass of white wine which was perfect for the dish. The deserts were awesome, hot chocolate pudding and a cold rice pudding, both with ice creams of different kinds. Damn they were good. We got some complementary truffles with the bill!I would recommend Chez Bruce to anyone. We left with the feeling that we had gotten our money's worth plus a little extra. The staff and their sommelier were very good at their jobs. Thanks Chez Bruce!
19/03/2017: Our friends dine regularly here for special occasions and wanted to take us there as a Birthday lunch treat. What a dining experience it was. A great starter, main and dessert selection and we all enjoyed every course. Service was very attentive and polite. We hope to go back to experience the evening dinner menu.

Knightsbridge and Belgravia, City of London,Westminster
17/07/2017: Went there today. It's expensive. The food flavours are nothing we had experienced before and we are extreme foodies who fortunately don't have to worry about cost when we eat out. Wait service was excellent. Would go there again
17/07/2017: Excellent good, attentive service. Adapted meals for special dietary requirements

Typing Room

Bethnal Green North, Tower Hamlets, 60-100£
19/03/2017: We had a lovely lunch at Typing Room. The prices were very reasonable for the standard of the food and service. Well-thought tasting menu and a comprehensive wine list made it a great success. The ambiance is tiny but pleasant. Happy to see Lee Westcott around the staff. I cannot wait for another occasion to go back.
18/03/2017: This restaurant has a nice "buzz" which makes it just a bit better. The atmosphere is relaxed. And you look right into the kitchen to see the chef at work. The food is really excellent, the taste in your mouth surprises you with every dish. I would definitely go back. Prices are pretty high, but fair in regard to the quality offered.

Gordon Ramsay

Royal Hospital, Kensington and Chelsea, >100£
11/07/2017: This was our first time at anything as upmarket as this , my wife's surprise for my 40th Very sceptical to say the least Well I have to say , I realise now it's not just a meal it's an experience , the service , the attention to detail , the staff are so well trained , the food, everything was the best ever I'm a big Gordon Ramsey fan, and always wanted to visit his restaurant , the service and quality that he had installed in his service is absolutely second to none If anybody out there reading who has not visited anything like this before , and is concerned that you may feel out of place , worry not , lots of first timers inside, lots of overseas visitors , all are made to feel very welcome , the maitre d is right on the ball , the sommelier must be the most knowledgable wine man in the world , in no way did I think it was pretentious, overpriced , it is a fantastic experience for a special occasion
11/07/2017: We visited to celebrate our wedding anniversary and chose the seasonal tasting menu. Were received with some canapes and a small vegetarian starter. Then three fish courses all very fresh, delicate flavours but still enough fat and protein to enjoy and feel satisified.A beef course, followed by goats cheese with bee pollen (amazing). Some fennel sorbet palate cleanser and finally a custard tart.We also had tea which came with petit fours: one ice cream truffles served over on top of some liquid nitrogen.

St James's, City of London,Westminster, <20£
17/03/2017: Went with two other friends and waited for about 40mins which passed quickly as we were allowed to order wine and drink in the queue. Everything on the menu looked so good we could not decide. We ordered so much but we actually finished everything! All the fish were very fresh and excellently prepared. Two bottles of wine and lots of food made us extremely happy on a Saturday afternoon!
13/03/2017: if you don't mind to queue for an hour, it is the place to go. The whole spanish team will welcome you with great hospitality.the menu is mainly of taps. Cooked in front of you, they are awesome. try the padrones, the croquetas, sucking pig.

Pizza Union

Aldgate,Billingsgate,Bishopsgate,Bridge,Broad Street,Candlewick,Cornhill,Langbourn,Lime Street,Portsoken,Tower, City of London,Westminster, <20£
18/03/2017: I´ve been a couple times to Pizza Union and it has turned into my favourite pizza place in London. The pizza is delicious, it´s fresh and very quick. Also it´s self service, and really cheap! You will not find another place like it. Even my parents loved it!Great value for your money and amazing food! A must visit in London!!!
16/03/2017: Order at the counter, grab a seat at one of the long benches and then watch your pizza be cooked for you in their huge stone pizza oven in super quick time. I like how informal this place is and you can spend as little or as long as you need. It would be great to grab a quick bite as it's such speedy service but equally my friend and I were here over an hour chatting and drinking our beers. The gelato is delicious too!
