The Raby Hunt Restaurant

Heighington and Coniscliffe, Darlington
19/03/2017: Absolutely amazing, top notch food and service, highly recommend. Every course 5 star and really enjoyed the sweets, especially as I'm not a pudding type of person. Give it a shot, you won't be let down!
18/03/2017: This was an anniversary present from our son and his partner. Couldn't have had a better present. The whole experience was wonderful. Front of house staff were very chatty, helpful and friendly. The meal was mind blowing a whole new experience of different flavours. I was not looking forward to the beef tartar. It was beautiful. The pigeon was very tender cooked to perfection. Loved the clams and the deserts were beautiful. Really enjoyed the recommended wines. Can't wait till go back.

Simbla Indian Resturant

Westgate, Newcastle upon Tyne
19/03/2017: Visited here early Saturday evening so had booked ahead and just as well as it was really busy but a good atmosphere. Made to feel very welcome by Shelly who was attentive but not intrusive a great host.Had scallops and chicken kebab as starters then tried traditional mains as wanted to compare and we cleared everything was delicious can't wait to go back!
19/03/2017: I have visited Newcastle a couple of times in the last couple of months, and been here on both trips. The owners are lovely and cannot do enough to help - I had not booked on either occasion, but they found me a place in no time at all. The food is excellent, and is amongst some of the best Indian food I have had. 5 stars for everything. Try it, you will like it!

The Harbour View

Hartley, Northumberland
18/03/2017: Over the years we have had fish and chips from numerous shops in the North East including those in ports like North Shields and Whitby. We have had fish and chips in places as far away as Cornwall. But we have found none better than those from the Harbour View Cafe. That’s why every other week we travel 18 miles there and back. First of all the fish is big. Be warned ask for a small haddock and you’ll find that it’s big. Ask for a large cod or haddock and you’ll find it’s very big.Second it’s the best quality we have tasted; thick chunks of white fish in a golden, crispy batter. Delicious! It’s the same with the chips; small is big and big is very big using best quality potatoes so they are never clumped together or greasy. Most times we eat ours in the car on the trays we take, with knives and forks, and flasks of tea or in the better weather on one of the benches in the Harbour. Of course, you also have the option of eating inside the Cafe.We have recommended the Harbour View Cafe to family, friends and work colleagues and every one of them has been pleased that we did. You will be too.
18/03/2017: You would have to go a long way to find a better portion of fish and chips. Absolutely gorgeous definitely be back

Mascalzone

South Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne, <20£
18/03/2017: Ate here last night with my son and I really cannot fault anything. The food was delicious, the service attentive and the restaurant itself was welcoming with a relaxed atmosphere. I sincerely hope to return on my next visit to Newcastle. I would definitely recommend a visit!
11/03/2017: Simply wonderful!I regret the fact that I did not take any picture of my meal. It is a fantastic and cosy place. Staff is polite and helpful. We enjoyed the meal. If you around Newcastle and you love Italian food that this is the right place for you.

Mizen Head Hotel

Bamburgh, Northumberland
16/03/2017: This was our second visit to the Mizen Head and it didn't disappoint. Our group of four all enjoyed their meal; the fish was top quality and was cooked to perfection. I would recommend this restaurant.
12/03/2017: Obviously a very popular restaurant. Only booking we could get was 6 pm and had to vacate the table by 8.15. Having said that it was Saturday night. The food and service was excellent. Would highly recommend. The only let down was the toilets, or should I say toilet. 1 female toilet. The money has been spent on the restaurant but I think the loo could do with a bit of t.l.c.

Cafe Sapore

Hartburn, Stockton-on-Tees
11/07/2017: This was my first visit to Cafe Sapore. I was told about it by a friend who said I should give it a try. On entering, I got a very warm welcome from the staff. I got there very early evening and was the only customer at the time which gave me a chance to chat to the very nice staff before ordering my food. I went for a vegetarian starter and main, which were both delicious. I thought the food very good value too. I would recommend this restaurant. I think it would be a good idea to book a table though as it isn't large and I could see them filling up in the evenings.
01/07/2017: Service here was excellent. The menu was appealing with a number of choices for each course. The food itself was good, but not great (it was hard to even spot the prawns in a prawn 'mac and cheese' they were so small, and salmon without crispy skin was disappointing). It could be argued that there are better options for the money nearby (well, Yarm), but we did have a nice evening and will likely return at some point!

The Drift Cafe

Lynemouth, Northumberland
19/03/2017: We visited the cafe a few times during a visit to a holiday let in Cresswell, we sampled quite a few cakes and they were all really tasty. The coffee was nice after our long beach walks!
17/03/2017: This cafe is worth more than 5 stars. We are regulars to The Drift and it never disappoints, a good size pot of tea and the most delicious scones ever. This gem of a cafe is also dog friendly. Must mention the lunches are superb too.

19/03/2017: Visited with friends, delicious pie and mash and Sunday lunch, ordered an extra portion of mash and another jug of gravy, very polite and friendly chef brought them to the table! Old rustic pub with good atmosphere will defiantly return! X
18/03/2017: Truly amazing pies! Pastry crisp and perfect. Filling lovely (we had steak and ale, peppered steak and mushroom, and mince and onion). Chips cooked in beef dripping. Washed down with beer brewed on the Fish Quay. Yummy!

Peace and Loaf Jesmond

South Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne
16/03/2017: We went to a fund raising evening at Peace and Loaf organised by Mr Wolfe. £800 raised fantastic. We have eaten here once before all that can be said is that this was the most delightful imaginative food as long as you liked chicken but we knew that was part of the deal. This restaurant must be a NOT TO MISS if you are visiting Newcastle upon Tyne, and that is said against some very strong competition. Thank you Guys for a superb tasting menu of superb food beautifully served. We will be back as soon as possible.
16/03/2017: Had a very enjoyable fixed price lunch. Great food, great service with lovely amuse-bouche between courses - only comment was that I would have liked more of the excellent salmon starter ! Great value for money

Bouchon

Hexham Central with Acomb, Northumberland, 30-45£
15/03/2017: Delicious, authentic french cuisine, very impressive and one of the best meals I've had for some time. Great attention to detail on all dishes, each course fantastic. Add a good wine selection and attentive (but not over the top) service and you can't ask for anything more
14/03/2017: Me and my girlfriend dined here on Monday evening. The staff were fantastic especially the gentleman serving us who we believe was the manager. If he isn't he should be. He was great at recommending dishes and his knowledge of the food was very impressive. The chicken parfait and trout three ways I would defiantly recommend you try. The main courses fantastic. The marrow that comes with the steak is amazing. A rib eye with not one bit of Fat and cooked perfectly. The duck was so tender and falling off the bone and the potatoes are to die for so creamy. Dessert again fantastic. All in all we would defiantly come back. Four glasses of wine, 3 courses each, a side order and cheese to share all for under £100. You honestly can't go wrong.

The Otter and Fish

Hurworth, Darlington, 20-30£
19/03/2017: This is our second visit to the pub and both times have been excellent. Today we had Sunday lunches and we certainly weren't disappointed, the meat was amazing and there was a lot of it! We went with our little boy and the team at the pub were brilliant with him and he left with 2 lollipops, so he was very happy! Our waitress was Carly and she was so helpful and really went out of her way to ensure we were looked after. To show how much we enjoyed the food, atmosphere and service we booked again before leaving. I certainly would recommend this pub.
19/03/2017: Fancied somewhere for Sunday lunch. Rang up at short notice and they were very accommodating. Managed to fit us in between sittings. In future I will be booking. Food was yummy, good value for money. Staff were very friendly. Would recommend a visit.

Spurreli

Amble, Northumberland, <20£
18/03/2017: Called in for coffee and cake after a coastal walk. The cafe was warm and welcoming with a good choice of cakes and desserts.
13/03/2017: We love Spurrelli ice cream. It tastes like ice cream should - rich and creamy and comes in a wide range of delicious flavours. Yesterday I enjoyed passion fruit and mango (delicious!) and my husband salted caramel. Whatever flavour we choose when we visit it's always delicious. Staff are lovely - always friendly and cheerful. Thank you.

The Old Post Office Bistro

Amble West with Warkworth, Northumberland
13/03/2017: In recent years Amble has relieved Warkworth of its title of most favoured centre of eating excellence with its array of fine small, medium and large restaurants. Now the historic village is fighting back with the pubs - Hermitage, Masons Arms and Sun Hotel- upping their games. Add to this list, the comparative newcomer, the Old Post Office Bistro which is arguably the finest restaurant in Warkworth. The quality of food, attention to detail, service and the excellence of cooking is richly deserving of a five-star review. The only downside is that it is currently only open on Friday and Saturday evenings
01/01/2017: We visited here for my birthday early December and it was amazing. We live in Newcastle but are not that familiar with places in Northumberland but found this on trip advisor and are glad we did. Definitely book in advance! We rang a few days before and they could only just for us in because they had had a cancellation. We had 3 amazing courses. The food was amazing throughout and presented really well. My fiancé had a steak and said it was cooked to perfection. Each course was full of different flavours and there were plenty of choices on the menu. At the end of the evening we were offered lindisfarne mead or ginger wine which was a nice touch. Definitely intend to visit again!

Cookfella's

Guisborough, Redcar and Cleveland
16/03/2017: Love love love this little restaurant in my home town. Fresh local produce cooked to a fab standard and really well priced for the quality of food they serve. Would recommend to anyone
16/03/2017: A birthday meal for 4 a couple of weeks ago, venue recommended by my table tennis colleagues. As things went, a really lovely evening, made nicer by the kind, helpful look-after staff.Lamb, ribeye & veggie dish mains all excellent, puds likewise. Wines fine, including a bit of a rarity in eating venues, viz glasses of sweet wine on offer with the puds, duly taken advantage of.Interesting to see Redang curry on the menu - last experienced on the Hull - Zeebrugge ferry some years ago - I'll try that next time - & there certainly will be a next time - although I've been warned to ask for them to go gently with the chillies!!!As far as East Cleveland goes this is a must use restaurant & stands up against any other restaurant anywhere.
