The Raby Hunt Restaurant

Heighington and Coniscliffe, Darlington
16/01/2017: I feel very lucky to have eaten at this restaurant, all the staff were brilliant, every course explained and matched with wine, invited into the kitchen after service finished and then driven home by James's father Russell, I can't imagine this happening at any other Michelin restaurant in the world - Proud to be British...
16/01/2017: We had the 10 (14 actually) course tasting menu. Wow! It started off sublime and got better with each course. If you look at the menu, I guarantee what arrives on your plate isn't what you'd expect. The razor clams were truly special and my wife - who prefers her steaks well done - raved about the raw waygu steak. The desserts were incredible; I mean, black olive chocolate! What sane person would mix those two flavours? But it works - and how!The front of house staff were knowledgable and friendly. Couldn't fault anything they did. I was the designated driver so I asked the somelier's advice for the best glass of wine to go with the whole menu. He suggested the Malbec, and it was delicious. Soft and well aged.Definitely somewhere to go back to (when I've save up some more pennies) and the only reason to delay is to give them chance to put some more surprises on the menu.

Peace and Loaf Jesmond

South Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne
19/01/2017: In short I loved the place. It started with the friendly welcome and the warm atmosphere which fills the restaurant. We went for lunch and intended two courses, however tempted by the fabulous food we'd eaten for our starter and main, we continued curiously on with a wonderful platter of desserts to share. The complementary 'between course tasters' were equally tasty and the pace of the meal flowed beautifully. The taste combinations were a real revelation, stretching our boundaries of usual pairings, and the presentation second to none. A photographic delight. I had the added benefit of being seated with a good view of the extremely hard and well coordinated effort that filled the kitchen. All front of house staff were perfectly courteous and professional. The prices I thought very reasonable for the quality of food we enjoyed. I would not hesitate to recommend this little gem of a place to anybody living locally or passing through. The team at Peace and Loaf deserve every bit of the tremendous feedback they've received, I will be back very soon I hope. Remember to book in advance though folks - this is a very popular place.
19/01/2017: We visited Peace and Loaf for the fourth time last week for my husbands birthday. The staff were attentive and friendly and as always the food was sumblime. I have nothing negative to say about this restaurant it is quite simply my favourite place to be! Booked again that night for Valentine's Day and counting down to it already!

South Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne, <20£
14/01/2017: Came here on a Saturday lunchtime and what a fantastic little place! Very warm friendly welcome, staff superb and attentive and the food topped it off. Very reasonably priced and great quick service to boot. Will definitely be back. Everything you'd expect in a genuine Italian restaurant. Highly recommend!
13/01/2017: Up in the North East over the Christmas period and called in for dinner. Absolutely fantastic and thoroughly recommend. Will visit again soon.

Dawdon, County Durham, <20£
17/01/2017: I couldn't recommend Humbles highly enough. It exceeds expectations. All the staff are so courteous and the food is amazing. You honestly will not be disappointed. I have been to the bistro night, tapas night and for Sunday Lunch. Absolutely superb. Location is great being right on the seafront.
11/01/2017: First visit for a while and the standards still very high. Had the steak pie again, steak very tender and the real chips are second to none. Service is always excellent and deserves to be the number one rated eatery in Seaham.

Moulin Rouge Cafe & Grill

Westgate, Newcastle upon Tyne
03/01/2017: Went for a small informal meal to celebrate my son and his girlfriends engagement had a lovely meal a in pleasant surrounding
01/01/2017: I visited this restaurant last year but now whenever I go to Newcastle I eat in this place. It is a small place but offers a low price for a very good quality food. The waiter was very kind and fair.We sat beside the window and it was cold. It will be good if they find a way to warm the place.I think there are five or six Persian restaurants in Newcastle but only this one is pricing the menu fairly. I must confess the other restaurants are good for large parties.I will definitely visit this place again.

The Harbour View

Hartley, Northumberland
17/01/2017: Stopped here during a family bike ride and really have to say spot on, place was very clean and fresh food was first class and I mean first class, unless you Geoff Capes order the Cod bites not the full cod as it's to large to consume and I'm 6 foot 3.
15/01/2017: We visited the Harbour View at Seaton Sluice for Saturday Lunch. The Regular Cod and chips is HUGE and comes with tea or coffee and bread and butter. This is what a fish & chip restaurant should be... Lovely. The service was really fast friendly and efficient too and the restaurant is really clean.. Forget Harry Ramsdens - this place is 100 x better.

Black Bull Inn

Weardale, County Durham
16/01/2017: Visited the Black Bull for Sunday Lunch, the staff were friendly and the restaurant was very authentic with log fires burning in every room. We both had top side beef and I can honestly say it melted in your mouth. The meal was fantastic and the Real Ale was very good. We'll certainly be going back again soon.Make sure you book as we were lucky getting a table.
10/01/2017: My son and his wife were visiting from Australia for the Christmas and New Year holidays so his first request was to go back to the Black Bull. The beer did not disappoint so we booked Sunday lunch. It was delicious, the beef was exquisite and the veggies so tasty. To have a fresh Yorkshire pudding was a real treat. Of course the desserts were perfect, for me, the Creme Brûlée was spot on. As usual the atmosphere was cosy and the staff were a delight. Thank you Black Bull for not disappointing my son and his wife.

Mizen Head Hotel

Bamburgh, Northumberland
17/01/2017: We enjoyed an outstanding New Years Day meal as a party of 9, in an attractive environment where the staff worked considerately to ensure our experience was excellent. Our greeting was warm & friendly as we enjoyed a relaxing drink prior to eating whilst waiting for all the party to arrive. The starters were well presented and plentiful and set our taste buds tingling for the next course, the bread accompanying the starters was exquisite. The mains where delicious, prepared and presented well with plenty of vegetables. Those that had room enjoyed desserts or coffee. We've eaten here before and have never been disappointed so were keen that our family party would be suitably impressed having travelled some distance to join us. Every one thoroughly enjoyed their meal and although not a cheap meal we all felt it represented excellent value for money. Our compliments to all concerned, thank you to all the staff involved.
17/01/2017: This is a great place to eat if you like fish. We had a wonderful meal which we both thought was excellent. We had the scallops and mussels to start followed by turbot and halibut. I would have liked a few more wines to choose from by the glass to complement the courses but overall we can't fault the food or the service. The staff were friendly and helpful.

The Drift Cafe

Lynemouth, Northumberland
18/01/2017: New year extension now completed. Bright extension with windows along one full wall, a d large picture window on end of room. Chairs now more in unison with them all reupholstered in the same green fabric.. feels less cluttered now don't feel person on next table joining your conversation! Food as good as ever, as are the staff, some things don't need to change ..Dogs still welcome.
17/01/2017: Varied menu from breakfast, cake, light bites, sandwiches, pizzas, omelettes, home made corned beef pie. Working our way through the menu slowly but surely. Well behaved dogs on leads welcome inside but extensive outdoor seating area available too. Friendly staff, effecient, helpful. Like I said the Drift has recently been extended but I fear, come the summer months especially, it will be standing room only

Mumbai Flavours

Alnwick, Northumberland, 45-60£
16/01/2017: Delicious food great friendly service and great value for money. We booked online but we went earlier and getting a table was no problem for the staff. We will definitely visit again the menu has lots of different options.
16/01/2017: We enjoyed a superb family meal as a treat. The food and service were exceptionally good. Outside of India itself, this was one of the finest Indian meals I have tasted. Having spent approaching two years in India, this is no faint praise; delicious well balanced flavours and vegetarian and non-veggie are very well catered for! Highly recommended. So much so that I groaned with delight several times, rather like Si King of the Hairy Bikers!

Winships Restaurant

Bywell, Northumberland
28/12/2016: We usually eat at home on christmas day as we find restuarants drab and overpriced, this year was an exception. We were invited by friends to Winships and we were blown away with the place. the staff were amazing, so kind and friendly restaurants as being very professional and attentive. The three course christmas meal was the best i have ever tasted. Each course was absolutely delightful. i must congratulate the chef who although very busy, took the time to come around every table and make sure we were enjoying our meal. This is by far the best restaurant I have ever had the pleasure to dine in. I fully intend to return very soon.
20/12/2016: Went on Saturday evening, had Christmas Faye on menu plus other things. As usual king prawns were beautiful, main courses of lamb rump and cod loin excellent, couldn't manage desert.Service is always first class,Caroline ensures everything runs great, this is one of the best restaurants around, regular return customers, you should really try it.

St Aidans Restaurant

Bamburgh, Northumberland
03/12/2016: We visited on Friday 2nd December as two couples to celebrate a birthday. We had to start crab and avacado, soup, scallops, and mackerel pate. Then for mains three fish pies and a Sea Bass with ratatouille every meal was perfect. the meet and greet and waiting staff where first class. Thank you St Aidens we shall return it was a lovely experience.
28/11/2016: Quality restaurant with open views to the Farne isles. 5 choices for each course reflecting locally sourced foods. I had crab starter and sea bass on ratatouille main beautifully cooked and the crumble was worth repeating any day.

House of Tides

Westgate, Newcastle upon Tyne, 60-100£
18/01/2017: I don't think I've struggled so much with a restaurant review, hence why it's taken so long to get around to reviewing it. Our party of three booked an evening meal and I must admit I had no idea what to expect. First impressions - the building and ambience were lovely, however we were sat downstairs in the bar for far too long before being seated in the restaurant (I think at least 45 mins) so we were really hungry by the time we were seated. The food tasted great in parts, the gnocchi was lovely and the lemon dessert was definitely the best dessert I've had for a long time - if only there was more of it! Considering some of the courses literally only took 1 minute to eat, we then had to wait 15+ minutes for the next one to arrive - we were there four hours (including being seated in the bar)! We opted not to go with the wine tasting menu as they did seem rather pricey for the measures received. The cocktails and bottles of beer however, were reasonably priced. The staff were nice and helpful but whenever they were not serving they were stood in corners chatting which I don't think gave a very good impression and made it hard to get their attention when they were needed. We did have a lovely time, and the food was lovely, but I think the food portion size and the cost mean this would be a one off visit for us.
18/01/2017: Tasting menu and wine was absolutely delicious, attention to detail is first class with an A* service. Not only were the waiting staff helpful polite and eager, they were knowledgable and helpful all the same time. No frills approach to eating first class food in first class surroundings, amazing from entering to leaving,The boy did good!!!
