The Raby Hunt Restaurant

Heighington and Coniscliffe, Darlington
18/02/2017: First visit in 2017 but it won't be our last. Exquisite food and usual terrific service although the front of house staff had changed completely since we were last here. However they all knew their stuff and Chef once again excelled with a new tasting menu and accompanying wines. Another day another star but very reasonable pricing for a such special meal. We will be back.
13/02/2017: We had been before to the Tabu hunt a few years ago but decided to go again in view of the recent 2 Michelin star statusThe location is in a small village 15-20 mins from the a1/ but it's well worth the effort Had the tasting menu ( no carte available)Every course was really good but the razor clam course and the pigeon were particularly noteworthy . Puddings are delectable as was the cheese board Highly recommend

Peace and Loaf Jesmond

South Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne
25/02/2017: Absolutely outstanding. We visited for my husband's birthday and he said himself that it was his best ever meal. We've just got back from Dubai where we visited a 3 Michelin star restaurant so I think it speaks for itself that Peace & Loaf exceeded that experience!Every course was just stunningly put together and the flavours were amazing. The presentation was fantastic, our favourite was the board of desserts at the end - you HAVE to try! Some strange ingredients that are just so good when put together! This really is an eating experience. The service was so much more friendly and less intimidating than other high end restaurants where staff seem nervous and seem to recite ingredients. At Peace & Loaf the staff knew the menu inside & out and have tasted everything, knowing their favourites and making recommendations based on this. We felt at ease from walking in and so were in no rush to leave.I feel very lucky that we have such a great restaurant in Jesmond - thanks to the management & staff at Peace & Loaf for maintaining such brilliant standards. My only hesitation before booking was that I saw a bad review on their Facebook page where someone had turned up late (obviously the customer's fault) but the manager had retaliated quite badly on the post and I thought that was an inappropriate response which nearly put me off booking. I think this could put other people off booking and I'd recommend taking the response off and putting a more friendly response on the page to that customer as I think this is important in hospitality in the public domain (even if the customer is at fault).
25/02/2017: I was lucky enough to ave been invited for lunch. I had rang them prior to going to make sure they were ok with my dietary requirements. I need not have worried. We selected from their fixed 3 course lunch menu. They brought a selection of little tasters. Mine came separate on their own little block of wood. The gluten free bread was warm and really tasty and the beef dripping butter (yes beef dripping) was light and absolutely amazing. My starter of cured salmon was delicate and tasted wonderful. More little morsels appeared between our starter and main course mine being the most delicate rice wafer with black pea and black garlic puree, delicious. My main course of fish with the most delicate onions was also delicate and very tasty. 2 of my fellow guests had hanger steaks with barley and they all commented how tasty it was. You need to ensure you have a "lot" of time to dine here nothing is hurried and the food is meant to favoured. Most enjoyable

Simbla Indian Resturant

Westgate, Newcastle upon Tyne
25/02/2017: Visited on a busy Friday night, there was an oasis of calm in contrast to the bustle outside. We were promptly served with drinks and our food order. Staff were very attentive and were always on hand to see if everything was ok. We had a selection of starters which were served in two sittings (nice idea). Our party of 7 had a wide selection of food and it was all of a high quality without the huge quantities that are quite often the case in similar establishments. Definitely a step up and not reflected by the bill which was very reasonable indeed. If you want quality in comfortable surrounding then this is the place for you.
25/02/2017: This is the best Indian I have had in Northern England. The service is exceptional. The food is tremendous. The blend of taste and spice is just right.Quality dishes from what is obviously a family run restaurant where the family care about quality and service. The fish dishes are top drawer but all the details and quality are there on all the dishes. Well done!

24/02/2017: Passing through the area and popped in on spec..... so glad we did!Excellent homemade food. We only wanted a light meal, but the toasted sandwiches were really tasty. Caught sight of an afternoon tea nearby. Impressive! Would recommend this tearoom without hesitation. Good value for money too!

The Drift Cafe

Lynemouth, Northumberland
23/02/2017: Beautiful day out on the beach and my other half thrives on coffee. First visit here. It was full. Good news for all I guess. Grab a seat and a table number prior to ordering at the counter. Prompt , polite and happy service by all members of staff. Can't comment on the food as we only had drinks. It is like sitting in an old junk shop and could do with clearing out the tat. (antiques ?) There is an identity to find very easily with this place, so chuck out the car boot rubbish and up a gear. Well done to all as it looks a real success story. Just fine tuning needed.
21/02/2017: Reasonably priced food in the perfect location!!Very clean and simple!Lovely views the beach across the road is amazing.Good with kids.

Mumbai Flavours

Alnwick, Northumberland, 45-60£
22/02/2017: We were impressed the first time we tried mumbais as all food was good however our second visit was disappointing. Onion bajis were dripping in oil and were not edible. The nan was very doughy and didn't taste right. Chicken dish was good however and we got free pompadoms. For a take-away which wasn't cheap we expected better. Get the basics right and we may be back as our first visit was good but last visit was below par.
22/02/2017: Lovely Indian Cuisine....really nicely served.Very clean restaurant.Friendly and helpful staff.Highly recommended.

Black Bull Inn

Weardale, County Durham
21/02/2017: Not very welcoming if your not a local, it felt as though it was the landlords front room not a pub, we had 1 drink and left we felt very awkward.
12/02/2017: Been coming here for years but not been for 18 months or so. If anything it's got better! I had a marvellous glass of cider (they have some of the best guest ciders and perry around) to accompany my scotch egg - amazing. Then I polished off some superb venison with the best dauphinoise potatoes I've ever had! We were both soooo full but could not resist apple crumble with custard! What a great pub. Long may your lum reek!

Mizen Head Hotel

Bamburgh, Northumberland
23/02/2017: My husband and I ate a glorious meal here in January, we were both very surprised at the fabulous choice/selection available given that it was out of season. The food was fresh, and delicious and also original, numerous fish dishes available in sumptuous sauces, the chef excelled himself/herself.The waiter's were attentive and efficient and knowledgable, we couldn't fault them.I would truly recommend this venue as a place to eat if you are ever in the area.
23/02/2017: Visited for a birthday dinner last night and we were not disappointed. We were met on arrival by Robin he was very attentive and took us through to the bar for a drink. We were taken through to the restaurant and were not disappointed with our amazing dinner I had mussels and my husband had salmon 2 ways for starters. I had halibut and my husband had fillet steak for main both did not disappoint. We shared a passion fruit cheesecake and finished the night having a drink in the bar chatting to Robin and the owner of the hotel. Thanks for a very pleasant and friendly welcome to your amazing restaurant. We will definitely be returning 5 stars from us !!!
