Blu Restaurant

Falls, Belfast, 20-30£
06/03/2017: Booked for last Saturday based purely on online reviews and very limited alternatives available that night in Belfast. Food, atmosphere and staff were first rate. And it was reasonably priced for the high-quality end of the market. I would definitely recommend and would go again.
05/03/2017: I wanted to introduce Blu to my husband even though it was my second time there. We had one of most delicious dinners in Belfast. I can definitely say that we will be back as food and staff were 10/10.I had mussels for a starter and my husband who don't really eat seafood was stealing from my plate! I can honestly say they were best mussels I had in Belfast so far. The crispy duck with pancakes was also delish. For main we had chicken and baby leg of lamb. The meat was moist and tender, just melting in the mouth! For dessert we had assorted desserts and cheesecake which were just too yummy. We had an amazing food experience! You definitely need to go and try it for yourself.

Kathmandu Kitchen Nepalese & Indian Restaurant

Shaftesbury, Belfast, <20£
18/03/2017: First of all the hosts are superbly welcoming and helpful, the decor is pleasant and not overdone. The food was INCREDIBLE from top to bottom, i had 3-4 places suggested to me for my two night stay and i came back to this place twice, it was that good. I tried two traditional Nepalese dishes both nights and they were superb, as were the appetisers. They also offered a complementary drink at the end of the meal each night. I can't recommend this place enough, if you are in Belfast and like Indian, go here and only here. Well done and thanks for the dining experience.
17/03/2017: Great to find somewhere with that little bit extra to the normal Indian fare. We all opted for the Nepalese areas of the menu and weren't disappointed. The Mo Mo dumplings were a treat, not unlike Jaozi from N China. Another great starter was the vegetarian platter with some superb flavours.Staff were friendly, knowledgeable & helpful in explaining the flavours in various dishes. More than generous portions, complementary popadoms to start, lovely fresh food.Certainly the best food we've had locally for a long long time.

Holohan's

Shaftesbury, Belfast, 20-30£
19/03/2017: Firstly, this is a great location. We booked in advance of our trip to Belfast and had a great high table at the window overlooking the river. The food was delicious, the boxty special was particularly impressive! Good drinks, the atmosphere was nice and the staff were very welcoming. Overall a very enjoyable evening.
19/03/2017: I had booked a table for Holohans, a month in a advance of our trip to Belfast, for the evening of St Patrick's Day. We were running late due to the difficulty of getting a taxi but we were assured that there was no problem and quickly our minds were put at ease. On arrival we were greeted very warmly by the two girls working the floor and settled at our table quickly. We enquired about the food selection and what was recommended, we ordered and wow it was superb - smoked mackerel with crab and pressed ham hock ....wow delicious - mains followed, sirloin and the boxty of the day .....superb, then we had cheese and I have to say it was really enjoyable and thanks to the girls for telling me what cheese it was. I went to the market next day and bought to bring home. Once we finished we could not get a taxi easily and frankly I am glad as being the last patrons we chatted to the wonderful girls and the owner enjoying a real treat of Belfast hospitality. This team made our evening - thank you - never mind the delightful food. do yourself a favour and have a meal if you are in Belfast p.s. thanks for the birthday wishes and candle!!

The Bar at The Merchant Hotel

Duncairn, Belfast
16/03/2017: I have just been reading the other reviews and am beginning to wonder if I'm reviewing the same hotel! ! Called in on Saturday with my daughter for a couple of cocktails while my husband, son and grandson were at the rugby. Greeted pleasantly enough but that was about it. ...placed our order and waited. .now thank goodness we had a lot to chat about because we waited some more. ..the three ladies beside us had an order taken and delivered and we still waited. ..by this time we had finished the provided nibbles so I mentioned to a passing waitress that we still hadn't received our drinks. ..easily half an hour if not more of a wait. ..appreciate they were busy but still too long ....actually think we had been forgotten about. . decided not to risk ordering another as time was now limited. ..my daughter who was paying the bill then noticed that we had been overcharged only to be told it was a service charge. ...service charge for what? ...Our service was rubbish. ..was it because we weren't guests staying over. .surely all customers should be treated equally. ..anyway the charge was removed without any fuss I may add thank you. .. as a result we left the Merchant feeling rather disappointed. .didn't really live up to its reputation.
13/03/2017: Staff wonderful/food lovely - good selection / massive cocktail list which would suit all ages and pockets

James Street South

1 offer
Shaftesbury, Belfast
19/03/2017: Visited James St South on a busy Friday night - just as well I had a reservation, the place was buzzing. We were immediately shown to a nice table for two, just far enough away from the centre of the room which was rather crowded and noisy. From a nicely varied menu, I chose a crab starter (£10.50), my friend chose cured salmon (£9). While both were delicious, the crab is a small portion for the price. We had ordered a bread basket specifically to enjoy while we waited for our starter - however, the bread did not arrive until we were halfway through our starters, so we waved it away. My main was grilled cod (£22.50), which was beautifully cooked and presented but a tad on the small side if you were particularly hungry. My friend had the beef sirloin with cheddar crust (£28), which looked a treat and which she declared "scrumptious". Sides of chips and champ (£4.00 each) were generous and pure stunners. We shared a nice bottle of Rioja, and passed on desserts. When it came to paying the bill, we spotted a bottle of white wine on there which was definitely not ours - it took a while to get someone's attention, but they did eventually rectify the error. Overall, a very nice visit, food is good but its worth ordering side dishes as the mains can be a little small if you have a good appetite! Would definitely recommend but a reservation is a must.
18/03/2017: My husband and I went back again to James Street South having been there several times before. It was my husband's birthday and we were thrilled and touched to be greeted with a birthday card and a glass of prosecco each when we entered the restaurant. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable in relation to what wine would best accompany our meal. We had scallops to start and monkfish cheeks accompanied by a glass of chilled Albariño, superb! We both had the rack of lamb for mains accompanied by a sublime Valpolicello Ripasso. My husband had the ice cream with Madeleine's for desert and I had the cheese, everything was five star from start to finish, we will definitely return again, massive thanks to Niall and his team, first class!

Havana Bank Sq

Falls, Belfast, <20£
18/03/2017: Went here on Saturday for a bit of lunch, reading the latest reviews I was keeping an open mind. On arrival the warm welcome from my waiter put me completely at ease. They could not do enough to help us out from menu recommendations to prompt drink orders. The food arrived and was absolutely fantastic good portions and cooked to perfection. Highly recommend a visit if you are in Belfast for any occasion.
16/03/2017: Myself and 5 colleagues ate lunch here on Tuesday (I had recommended as had previously eaten here) the service was as good as always and the restaurant is lovely... the problem occurred as myself and another colleague ordered the Guinness battered fish - big portion - but so over cooked, that it was brick hard. I did speak with, who I am imagining was the manager as not in uniform, and explained that neither of us cooked eat out meal. Nothing happened, and I mean nothing, the plates were not taken away, no apology, no offer to replace (which we would have refused as everyone else's food was great and they were tucking in) not even a complimentary cup of tea. I was so disappointed as we only went there on my recommendation. I should make clear that everyone else's meal was lovely - risotto, chili beef, steak sandwich.I had planned to hold another team business lunch hear at the end of the month, but have booked elsewhere.I wasn't looking for freebie's - but this was very poor, no concern at all.

Mourne Seafood Street Food

Falls, Belfast
18/03/2017: This was by far the best meal we had in Belfast. The food was excellent, and we were a largish group with rather demanding palates where fish and seafood is concerned. The place is modern enough but also quite classic, great service, good wine, neither stuffy nor too casual in terms of atmosphere, and people living up outside before the door was opened for dinner.
14/03/2017: Excellent place to eat cant fault it would go back if you like seafood you bave to try this place great selection and seats outside beautiful on a good day

Graze

Ballyhackamore, Belfast, >100£
13/03/2017: Excellent....from welcome, service and food.....1st visit and going back next month with overseas visitors.....they will be in for a treat........Well done all
11/03/2017: We booked my favourite restaurant Graze very last minute and, surprisingly, managed to get an early table for dinner. I explained on the phone that my daughter was vegetarian and also on a dairy free diet. The owner said that the chef would be able to prepare a special menu for her. When we arrived the printed menu was presented and the food was so deliciously described that two of us ordered from it! I had vegetable tempura with a clementine salad for my main course - yum, it was superb! My daughter was grateful to have a fabulous 3 course, dairy free, vegetarian meal. The food, service and ambience were consistently excellent and I can't recommend Graze highly enough.

The Hoose

Bloomfield, Belfast
06/03/2017: The upstairs was cold. They put on heat when we complained. Shouldn't need a coat on to be warm enough. The starter was burnt. The main course was bland and poorly presented. I would avoid this place as you can get so much better. Possibly the chef was having a bad day but really I wondered if they had a chef. I'll not be returning to find out.
05/03/2017: Visited today for Sunday lunch with friends. Waiter polite and showed us to an upstairs table. Room was cold and just one other table of diners. Ordered terrine for starter and received pate. Friend ordered goats cheese and walnut crostini. It arrived like burnt toast with just the rind of goats cheese and no walnuts.£5 extra for a rib eye steak but was tasteless and accompanied by what tasted like bisto gravy and aunt Bessie frozen Yorkshire puts. Had heard that this place was good but not today.

Kitch Belfast

Shaftesbury, Belfast
17/03/2017: Have been here quite a few times and each time the food has been great, tonight was no different, the steak was lovely, my friends seabass was also good and we both really liked the sticky toffee pudding for dessert. The only drawback to the whole evening was some of the other diners in the restaurant. I understand that today was St Patrick's day but a few young female students that were in at the same time as us had obviously had too much to drink and thought that shouting sectarian slogans was ok. Definitely not, pretty much ruined what had otherwise been a lovely evening. Even after staff were told about this they didn't hurry to remove them and they actually left of their own volition in the end.
16/03/2017: We just happened upon this restaurant as we walked from our hotel to get a bite. It's lovely! Laid back vibe and waitresses/ waiters are so friendly. What really caught our attention was the vegetarian menu with a lot of vegan options included. Not many places have a whole separate veggie menu so this was much appreciated. My husband got the sliders which were delicious and I had the salted chilli tofu, loved it! Would definitely recommend this restaurant for veggies and vegans. We had great food here and will be going back next time we're in Belfast.

Scalini Restaurant

Botanic, Belfast
19/03/2017: Just came back to hotel after a memorable night at Scalini. It was our anniversary dinner. I chose it because of all the positive reviews and it turned out to be a smart move.We ordered starters "sea scallops" and "tuna salmon tartar" followed by main course "12oz lamb rack with cream truffle sauce plus fries" and "spicy seafood spaghetti" in a pot. Before the starters a platter of bread was served with tomato olive oil & mint olive oil & a whole baked garlic. Fragrant fresh bread spell and good tasted spread. Both starters were light and refreshing to prepare for the juicy lamb and delicious pasta with fresh top quality seafood (prawn, clams, mussels, olive, cherry tomato and chilli.I requested a quiet table telling it was our anniversary dinner but didn't expect any special treat. Without prompting, a bottle of sparkling wine was given on the house to go with the meal! The dessert Tiramisu was made right in front of you and tasted excellent--- but it's way too big for two of us so be aware before you ordered!Special thanks to Jay, Yau, Stamp and Ahu who made this meal really pleasant and relaxing. Thanks a lot.
18/03/2017: Near to Dukes Hotel - although not listed on Trip Advisor as such. To be honest, one has limited expectations walking down Botanic Avenue. However, even if one had high ones they would be met by this restaurant. It is very smart and well decorated. The food is excellent and the staff are attentive and friendly.

Howard Street

4 offers
Shaftesbury, Belfast
18/03/2017: My daughter and I decided to celebrate St Patrick's day with lunch and a cheeky wee swally! I had often passed this establishment and wondered what it was like so decided to take the plunge. The decor was just to our taste; muted colours, exposed brick and distressed paint work. I ordered the chicken supreme with chunky chips and my daughter had salted chilli beef with a spicy mayo. There were beautiful flavours accompanying the beautifully moist chicken; the salad in particular was a revelation with pickled radishes and curried remoulade of celeriac! My daughter fully enjoyed the beef which was flavoursome with a crispy batter. Prompt service added to the positive experience-would definitely recommend!
12/03/2017: Went as a couple on a Sat night in early March. The place was buzzing. While the food was faultless in taste I left feeling hungry as quite simply there was not enough of it! I had the duck to start followed by the pork belly while my wife had the prawn and squid started followed by duck. While both were served with sides we ordered an extra chunky chip just to be safe and with all plates cleared I still felt I could do with more. I am a big eater but usually leave a restaurant with my appetite satisfied (so not an utter gorb!!) Bill for two was just short of £100 with pre dinner drinks and wine
