Vanilla Restaurant

Shimna, Down
23/02/2017: We actually came upon this restaurant via our daughter, who told us.... it was lovely!Hubby & I, being out for a drive one Saturday a few months back, arrived in Newcastleand decided to have a coffee. I suddenly remembered this place being recommended, and decided to give it a try. As we were actually booked to meet up with my brother and sister in law for a meal in the evening, we didn't want anything too heavy, so we ordered a cheeseboard to share and coffee. Well,.... we were absolutely enamored with the presentation of the cheeseboard and the variety presented on it ! As we savored it, we observed the food being served to the tables around us and it looked amazing ! So we made a mental note to return some other day for a lunch..... which we did.... and of course, were not disappointed. The quality of the food and presentation are equal to any 5 star hotel. The staff also were very helpful and pleasant. It is not a large restaurant, so if you are 'set' on going here it may be best to book a table. Finally......and quite importantly....even the toilets were a pleasure to use as they were very nicely and unusually presented....and CLEAN. The frontage of this restaurant may not shout out hugely !!! ....but step in the door, and you will not be disappointed.,
21/02/2017: on a drizzly day, Vanilla was a friendly haven. The room is tastefully decorated, love the bronze globe lights and the wallpaper.I had a beef and squid salad, both were perfectly tender and full of flavour. Partner had a chicken slider with chunky chips which was also delicious. The service was good and the manager made sure we were satisfied with everything. As well as the lunch menu which is reasonably priced there is a separate menu where you can get 2 courses for £16. They also do a soup and sandwich deal - something for every budget.

Blue Bay Cafe

Dundrum, Down, <20£
17/02/2017: Fab cafe. Every time i am in Dundrum i have to hop, over to the Blue Bay cafe. Their scones are the best in N I for sure and better don't forget to mention their super chocolaty brownies! They are a must! Never eaten anything like it and very generous slices. Please try everything in there, well worth it. Lovely place and excellent service. A must!
06/02/2017: On a sunny day when Newcastle is just too busy to find a place to eat Blue Bay is a short jaunt up the road.Clean and bright with a friendly, welcoming ambience. What's not to like!

Harbour, North Down
21/02/2017: We made a last minute decision to go to Donegans for a late lunch on a day off. Very surprised when we went in as it was fairly busy on a Monday and more people arrived in after us. Got a nice table and the place felt cosy and welcoming. We were greeted by a very pleasant person who ensured that we quickly got drinks and menus/wine list. We wanted to take our time and they didn't rush us. We both went for the 2 courses for £9.95 menu which seemed excellent value and the food sounded tasty. After our starter of large, breaded mushrooms and garlic dip, we said we would like a break before the main and again this was no problem, indeed they checked a while later whether we were ready for our meal so they could advise the chef. We tucked into chicken and pepper sauce, and pork and mushroom sauce, with champ and chips. We were both extremely impressed with the quality and quantity of the food, all delicious, freshly cooked and plentiful. And the service was great throughout our visit. Will definitely be back here!
18/02/2017: Went to Donegans on a Saturday night for a family birthday meal, the food and service was outstanding. Place was packed(always a good sign), but we still received 5* service. I had the mixed grill, best I have ever tasted, and all the family were very impressed with their steaks, duck and chicken dishes. Special mention to Ivan, top professional and such a really nice guy, the service was second to none, thank you. This place is a must visit, will def be back.

The Guillemot

Harbour, North Down, <20£
20/02/2017: This was the first place we went in Bangor just after we arrived. They were very friendly and the food was delicious. We had two of the specials along with pea and mint soup and scrambled eggs on toast. Definitely recommended.
17/02/2017: What an amazing find of a wonderful wee coffee shop in Bangor. Their cinnamon scones are delicious and to die for, good friendly efficient service. Defiantly worth calling in when in the vicinity.

Great jones Craft & Kitchen

Shimna, Down
17/02/2017: We had a really delicious meal in The Great Jones this evening. We arrived at 6pm with two children aged five and two. They have a very good children's menu with the usual favourites on it. The portion size was perfect for them and very tasty. The meal deal for kids is a main, drink and ice cream for about £5. I ordered the special; monkfish tails with braised leeks, king prawns with a creamy risotto and it was absolutely delicious, my husband had chicken wings to start and a burger; both very tasty. The prices are very reasonable, the service was excellent and all staff we came into contact with were extremely pleasant. The atmosphere is lovely too. I would highly recommend The Great Jones.
13/02/2017: We visited with our teenage daughters on a wet and windy Sunday. We ordered from the early bird menus, the food was delicious everyone in the party thoroughly enjoyed it. The only disappointment was that there was no sticky toffee pudding left !! Gutted as we have had it before and had told our daughters how good it was. However alternatives were also good.Cocktails were delicious. And a special mention to TJ who was great craic.

The Quays Restaurant

Portavogie, Ards
22/02/2017: First time I have ever been down this part of the world. We also were the first through the door for lunch, the restaurant and toilets are spotless and nice fire lit in the reception. We had a sea view which was nice despite the weather, I had scampi and my partner various fish goujons. Great portions quickly arrived! Lovely light batter. We both agreed to return, but with more people to share the enjoyment!

Villa Vinci

Shimna, Down
22/02/2017: Villa Vinci was recommended to us by friends who had been there several times. We had l look at reviews on TripAdvisor and decided to give it a try. Suffice to say we were not disappointed. We booked a table which was just as well as the restaurant was fairly busy when we arrived. Staff were friendly and the service was pretty good. We both ordered different starters and main courses and were very pleased with the presentation and quality of the food. I would recemmend th sea bass!

The Old Schoolhouse Inn

Lisbane, Ards
13/02/2017: Super location, close to Dublin centre, great efficient staff, wonderful dinner and breakfast, fantastic bar to relax and let the world go by. A little gem
10/02/2017: This was my first time at the Schoolhouse. What a find. It was a cold evening so really nice to come in and see the fire lit and offered the chance to sit by the fire and have a drink before moving to the table. Decor is simple and chic. Such a warm atmosphere. Service was exemplary. Each dish was explained as it was served out. As for the food - outstanding. I really was not expecting such high quality. It is fine dining for sure. Stand out for me was a piece of cod with oyster "emulsion" (foam). Absolutely did not expect this level of food for a place so out of the way down some narrow country roads. Excellent meal. Highly recommended. Will return.

Harbour and Company

Donaghadee North, Ards
19/02/2017: This restaurant was recommend to me by one of my friends. We went there today and had Sunday's menu. This included 3 dishes including ribeye roast which was super awesome. All 3 dishes were tasty and nicely served. Amount of food was just perfect. We are clearly going back to try steaks from wood fired grill.
17/02/2017: We visited on a Saturday evening met at the door and shown to our table friendly professional service. On this occasion we had the sharing platter and this was delicious highly recommended. We both had the steak my only criticism is it came with a "crust" not to my liking hence the loss of one star. The food was excellent and service brilliant. Definitely worth a wee drive to Donaghadee to sample the delicious food and the added bonus of no under 14's. On the premises.
