Great jones Craft & Kitchen

Shimna, Down
18/02/2018: Arrived late! Greeted with a smile!!
17/02/2018: Was my wife’s birthday so decided to take her and the family somewhere special and Great Jones did not disappoint. On arrival we were greeted by warm friendly welcoming staff. The relaxed casual atmosphere let everyone settle in very quickly! The service was excellent from all staff on the nite with the attention to detail spot on! The food on the menu looked so good we could have ordered it all but the food we did have was beautiful and perfect portions I had the chefs burger which is one of the best I’ve ever had. As it was Friday there was cocktail specials on, these were amazing and at £4 each that’s brilliant value. Have to just say again a special thank you to the management and staff for making the birthday one to remember. Anyone thinking of a special dining treat must come here!

Blue Bay Cafe

Dundrum, Down, <20£
16/02/2018: Very friendly, very reasonable prices, great food, and a real community atmosphere. I'm not normally this effusive, but...
29/01/2018: I called in quite late in the afternoon. There was still plenty of choice from a good menu with plenty being gluten free. I had a very good americano coffee and a fabulous warm chocolate brownie. A cosy place. I will definitely call again.

Robert Stewarts

Drumbo, Lisburn, 20-30£
17/02/2018: First time in a year for food. Delicious meal, attentive and friendly service and pleasant relaxing atmosphere.
03/02/2018: We called by and we were surprised at the lovely old entrance, an original half door which is accessed from the back car park. . The restaurant is in a separate area from the bar. The service was friendly and pristine.

Villa Vinci

Shimna, Down
21/02/2018: We were staying at the Slieve Donard for an overnight stay but decided to eat outside of the hotel. Lovely welcome from all the staff and there was a good buzz for a Monday night in the restaurant. We had garlic bread to share and then I had the steak sandwich for mains - great portion size and absolutely delicious! Nice atmosphere and can’t wait to come back!!
19/02/2018: I took a group of young people here on Friday night for dinner - restaurant was exceptionally busy but the service was good and the food came quickly! Food was excellent (all of us agreed) and staff were very attentive. Will definitely be back!

The Guillemot

Harbour, North Down, <20£
19/02/2018: I've now been here a few times, and now realise that my first time at The Guillemot Cafe was not a fluke: the food, staff and atmosphere continue to be excellent, friendly and ambient regardless of when or what time of the day or week I go in.
19/02/2018: Was here a couple of Sat nights ago food was lovely and service top notch! Would definitely be back and highly recommend...

Holywood Priory, North Down, 30-45£
17/02/2018: We went out for lunch on a Friday and felt lousy afterward- it is a shame as the service was great and we where dissapointed with the quality as the food tasted great
12/02/2018: This Restaurant is on the main street in Holywood in a great location.

Vanilla Restaurant

Shimna, Down
21/02/2018: The food was average, the service was okay but when the girls at the table asked for recommendations from the menu the waitress said burgers and chicken are popular. I thought at one stage she was going to sit on our table there was so little room. I don't know if it was because it was a Sunday night but the food was bland. I had goats cheese started and duck. The starter was small but tasty but the duck was well cooked but wasn't even seasoned. Basic cooking I'd have thought. Would recommend and won't be back
17/02/2018: The meal in Vanilla's tapas bar was exceptional!! We chose to sit at the bar and watch the chef's at work! They were fantastic, taking the time to engage with the customers, yet serving dish after dish of mouth watering heaven!! My wife said it was THE best meal she had ever had! The team at vanilla are truly passionate about the food and service provide their customers!! Already booked in for our next visit to Newcastle! Stretchy pants required!

Harbour and Company

Donaghadee North, Ards
14/02/2018: Why haven't we been before now??
03/02/2018: Pub on ground floor and restaurant on first. Small step into building but lift to all floors. Amazing views from restaurant over the water. Choices of seafood, fish, meat and veg options. 4 of us had everything. .and it was all superb

Doc's Fish and Chips

Shimna, Down
19/02/2018: I ranted and raved about Docs and it so well deserved it but I am sorry to say that on these past two visits I am not willing to give 5 stars. On the first of the last two occasions I mentioned, the fish was still beautiful, fresh and white, however the batter was not as good as it has been, a bit soft not soggy. Thinking it was a one off, I ordered fish on the second visit and asked for it to be well done. The batter was darker but still soft and not crispy at all.
09/02/2018: Ordered fish and chips which we sent back twice. The bottom of the fish was soggy and grease running over the plate both times. The oil must not have been changed for ages either. Was told it's deep fried. Off course it's deep fried but swimming in oil twice is a joke. So one of us had lunch and the other went hungry. We got told sorry but still charged for the 2 drinks and one meal which was eatable but that's all. So disappointed. Go go the cafes up the street instead.

The Boathouse Restaurant

Harbour, North Down
21/02/2018: I enjoyed the most amazing meal here.
21/02/2018: Visited for the first time on 15th Dec, expected it to be busy but very very intimate. We went for the tasting menu with the wine tasting and what an experience it was. The staff were lovely and very well versed on the food and wines being served! Obviously as it was the tasting menu the portions were small, smaller than I think we expected, however absolutely gorgeous would recommend it, although pricey, it was an amazing night and a wonderful treat.

The Smugglers Table

Killyleagh, Down
24/01/2018: The mussels followed by the cod. Everything was beautifully cooked. Nothing could be improved. I ordered a fruit salad which wasn’t on the menu for dessert & it wasn’t a problem. Americanos are pleasingly generous. Service was excellent & we’ll definitely return. Surroundings are quaint & intimate.
19/01/2018: We had a family meal here last night and we were very very pleased with this restaurant. The quality of the food, service, drinks and ambiance were excellent.

Turnip House

Ballyward, Banbridge, >100£
16/12/2017: So happy to have found Turnip House again !! loved it when we used to visit at Trassey
05/12/2017: Great to see such a place in a beautiful hidden part of ireland ,simple good food to sustain you on your way to wherever and to wonder about .

Colin's Hot Food

Rathgael, North Down
06/12/2017: Well Colin's has been about for at least 30 years and I remember it as a young girl. On returning to live in Bangor I was shocked to see it still open..... one fish supper and onion rings later, I know why!! Still absolutely fabulous for a good old "fish supper" with lots of salt and vinegar congratulations on staying consistent and great to be back
14/11/2017: Dropped in on way back home - prices are good and the food is well prepared and unlike others they do give you a good few chips along with the dish you have ordered.

Niki's Kitchen Cafe

Donard, Down
11/02/2018: Our son had recommended this cafe so we gave it a try while staying overnight in Newcastle. Location was great as it was just beside large car park. Niki’s enjoys a casual style suitable for all ages 0’s to over 80’s when we were there with tables and chairs, sofas and benches and is on two levels. After joining a short queue we chose and ordered our food. No sooner had we got a table the food arrived. We both had Paninis which were delicious, but the menu offered scones lots of huge tray bakes and gateaux quiches soups sandwiches toasties and varied selection of teas and coffees etc etc etc. I thought it was reasonably priced for such nice surroundings. Give it a try yourself and see all the other things available that I can’t remember. The toilet facilities were clean and well supplied and there was baby changing too.
10/02/2018: Nice and relaxing coffee bar for morning coffee. A very nice selection of scones too. A very busy little place in a perfect location just off the seafront at Newcastle.
