17/03/2017: If you want proper food made beautifully come to this restaurant! I really enjoyed my vegan meal and service was friendly and helpful. Beautiful food in cosy setting. Happy :)
16/03/2017: They do two lunch meals for £16. I had fish and chips, my husband thai curry with rice. The food was so fresh and such good quility. The fish batter was so light and the fish was as white as snow! Came with mushy peas and tarter sauce. Husbands chicken thai curry was amazing. The place itself was lovely decorated and the staff were all pleasant and really attentive to the costumers and had lovely personalities.

Vanilla Restaurant

Shimna, Down
15/03/2017: this is a very warm and friendly restaurant the staff was 100 %, they have a great menu to suite all the family, you don't have to wait long before your meal comes to you, the food was not expensive, would highly recommend this restaurant, but if you are going to eat here at the weekend I would book it before you go, its right on the sea front, you can park at the back at the school, very wheelchair friendly, we have been here a good few times, the duck in orange sauce EXCELLENT.
14/03/2017: Got a very last minute reservation here last Saturday night and were we glad we did. Being late in the evening we went straight for the main course. The service was very good and friendly and the meal was delicious. I had the rump of lamb and would highly recommend it, perfectly cooked served with some very interesting and tasty sides. Other dishes in the restaurant looked equally good. Overall there was a nice relaxed atmosphere in the restaurant and I would definitely recommend it and return.

21/02/2017: Called past here on a Sunday afternoon looking for something that wasn't a 3 course meal on a sunday. No booking but we were sorted. Excellent meal beautifully presented and the staff were very pleasant ant more than helpful. Would definitely return and can see this being a busy restaurant over the summer. A must visit?

Villa Vinci

Shimna, Down
19/03/2017: What a lovely restaurant, great menu options, lovely staff. This is a must should you be visiting Newcastle in County Down.
19/03/2017: Choose this on friends recommendation as better than Percy French alternative when staying at slieve Donard. Menu is mixed not really Italian. Pasta was good but award wining salmon dish was far too rich in smoked fish. Disappointed as looked good from shop window and was warm welcome from v good staff. Something just wasn't right with the food . Will go back and try again.

Harbour and Company

Donaghadee North, Ards
14/03/2017: We received good service from the moment we arrived and enjoyed beautifully cooked sirloins accompanied by a bottle of excellent red wine. We appreciated the fact that the chef cooked very tasty onion rings at our request despite these not being listed as a menu item. Also, the Irish coffee and sweet that we had finished our meal off on a very high note.
05/03/2017: After reading recommendations I had extremely high expectations of this restaurant. We arrived early on a Saturday evening having pre booked a table the previous day. Our table was close to the windows and tucked away in a corner. The restaurant is nicely laid out and even at 6.30pm it appeared almost full. The waiting staff are very friendly and helpful, if slightly over attentive. We ordered the seafood sharing platter to start and it was a great size to share. The mussels were spicy but very tasty! For mains we both had steak, I was impressed that both were cooked exactly as we had ordered. My partner had the béarnaise sauce which he had to send back. It had appeared to have split whilst cooking however it was substituted within minutes by the friendly waitress. The meal itself was reasonably priced although sides are not included with the steaks. That being said the prices were competitive for the quality of food.Overall we both enjoyed our meals, I'm glad we have tried here but I wouldn't be in a huge rush to return. We will bear it in mind if in the area again!

Blue Bay Cafe

Dundrum, Down, <20£
14/03/2017: Great little place. Great staff, all food freshly cooked and their coffee is great. All of their cakes are home made and they look very appetizing. Little gem
17/02/2017: Fab cafe. Every time i am in Dundrum i have to hop, over to the Blue Bay cafe. Their scones are the best in N I for sure and better don't forget to mention their super chocolaty brownies! They are a must! Never eaten anything like it and very generous slices. Please try everything in there, well worth it. Lovely place and excellent service. A must!

Pier 36

Donaghadee North, Ards
14/03/2017: We enjoyed several days visit with the wife's cousins. The location is overlooking the beach and harbor. Very nice. The accommodations are excellent as are the food and service. We look forward to another visit.
10/03/2017: Went here last Saturday night. Staff were very friendly and it was welcoming, with a lovely fire burning on a cold wet night. Good choice on menu, order taken and not too long to wait. Food was ok but such small portions. Son piri chicken was tiny with just a pile of sweet potato mash, no veg or anything. It was more like a child's portion. I had beef stir fry, again very small portion. Both these dishes were about £15 each. Would have been happier with paying £8 for the size of each dish. It really is a nice place but should look at prices and portion sizes to bring them more in line. Staff were lovely and friendly.

Central, Ards
13/03/2017: Love this placeFantastic ambianceFab menu beautifully cooked and presentedLovely settingWish it was in Lisburn
12/03/2017: Great brunch items, waffles with bacon and a breakfast roll with a difference. Old fashioned building and furniture, almost school like. Great food and coffee with a definite style of its own. The chorizo jam with the breakfast roll was sensational, well worth a visit

Olive Bizarre

Donard, Down
17/03/2017: This small cafe is at the harbour area of Newcastle. Very popular with local people and always seems to be busy. The friendly staff and good quality food all make this a good cafe outside the main town area.Use it as an excuse to walk out to the harbour and back.
13/03/2017: The atmosphere is different because the decor is different so the place has a distinct air of originality.

Hugh McCann's

Donard, Down, <20£
23/02/2017: Just Brilliant. We decided to go to Hugh McCanns as it was a special occasion. As soon as we sat down we were nicely greeted by a member of staff. They were friendly and informative and we ordered a drink. Our food order was promptly taken and was served shortly afterwards. We both had the steak with all the trimmings and it it was cooked just the way we wanted it and was really tasty. Our starters and deserts were also really good. The setting of this place is unbelievable and we will certainly be back. Most enjoyable night out in a while.
17/02/2017: Visited last night on a two day break to Newcastle. The service and food was amazing. One of the best steaks I have ever eaten! It was cooked to perfection and the quality of the meat was outstanding. We have been now about 4 times and everytime the food and service are brilliant. You're missing out if you do not check this place out!

The Boathouse Restaurant

Harbour, North Down
17/03/2017: Just had the fabulous 5 course tasting menu with wine selection at The Boathouse. What can we say ? Excellent service, delicious food and an inspired wine selection. We will be back !
14/03/2017: Hi Food Fiends, Bit of a Birthday treat on Friday, at the Boathouse Bangor. Me and wee mummsie, popped down there, for a set lunch. Fine dining can be a bit lifeless, and on that day it was just us. The girl serving was great, quite reserved which is very fine dining , but very engaging and professional. I have two problems with this place. Firstly the menus wording, is overly wonky (non sic). I have eaten plenty of Michelin or top dining, but I think the Boathouse have won the Hyperbole, comp, imaginings of candyfloss doesn't really rub anymore, it's not the 80's? Never the less the dining was fine and delicious. An amuse bouche, of parmesan custard and white asparagus soldier, was a geat memory. Mum loved her bisque, and my compressed chicken was lovely too. This is were my second gripe comes in. The main was a Langoustine and Crab affair, and very nice too. However it was only half way through, we realised we need some Green and said salad, was duely ordered. This is my issue, why can't the dishes be served complete? I know it's not very French, but surely we are over that now. Otherwise, Lovely, great for a treat, and heaven forbid we lose that. Jeremy

Daily Grind

Cathedral, Down
13/03/2017: Three friends went to lunch last week was friendly, great lunch nice place worth a visit for lunch will back back
03/01/2017: Really like the Daily Grind, they do not serve chips, which I find refreshing. They serve lots of salad as garnish and use quite a bit of fruit in these. Their food is very delicious, never been disappointed. Only gripe, they offer free top ups of coffee, but charge for additional tea, which I think is a bit unfair.
