17/03/2017: If you want proper food made beautifully come to this restaurant! I really enjoyed my vegan meal and service was friendly and helpful. Beautiful food in cosy setting. Happy :)
16/03/2017: They do two lunch meals for £16. I had fish and chips, my husband thai curry with rice. The food was so fresh and such good quility. The fish batter was so light and the fish was as white as snow! Came with mushy peas and tarter sauce. Husbands chicken thai curry was amazing. The place itself was lovely decorated and the staff were all pleasant and really attentive to the costumers and had lovely personalities.

Vanilla Restaurant

Shimna, Down
15/03/2017: this is a very warm and friendly restaurant the staff was 100 %, they have a great menu to suite all the family, you don't have to wait long before your meal comes to you, the food was not expensive, would highly recommend this restaurant, but if you are going to eat here at the weekend I would book it before you go, its right on the sea front, you can park at the back at the school, very wheelchair friendly, we have been here a good few times, the duck in orange sauce EXCELLENT.
14/03/2017: Got a very last minute reservation here last Saturday night and were we glad we did. Being late in the evening we went straight for the main course. The service was very good and friendly and the meal was delicious. I had the rump of lamb and would highly recommend it, perfectly cooked served with some very interesting and tasty sides. Other dishes in the restaurant looked equally good. Overall there was a nice relaxed atmosphere in the restaurant and I would definitely recommend it and return.

The Guillemot

14/03/2017: Great friendly service always with a smile.Fantastic freshly prepared food at very reasonable prices. This is a very busy establishment, and I'm not suprised, staff were great, food was excellent atmosphere friendly and bubbly.A great recommendation for a fab lunch.

Holywood Priory, North Down, 30-45£
14/03/2017: I have had lunch and dinner at Coast and can recommend both options. The lunch menu offers a £5 upwards meal deal and I love the mini loaves that come with the soup.Four of us had dinner recently and there is a wide choice on both early bird and main menus.I have always been impressed with the staff who have been attentive and welcoming.
10/03/2017: Was in today for lunch around 2.30 for something to eat with my mum. Got a seat by the window good choise if food and very reasobable prices. Staff very friendly

Villa Vinci

Shimna, Down
19/03/2017: What a lovely restaurant, great menu options, lovely staff. This is a must should you be visiting Newcastle in County Down.
19/03/2017: Choose this on friends recommendation as better than Percy French alternative when staying at slieve Donard. Menu is mixed not really Italian. Pasta was good but award wining salmon dish was far too rich in smoked fish. Disappointed as looked good from shop window and was warm welcome from v good staff. Something just wasn't right with the food . Will go back and try again.

Great jones Craft & Kitchen

Shimna, Down
17/03/2017: We attended this restaurant last Sunday for a family dinner. On arrival we where given menus which was grand, we all looked over and made selections. On ordering there was several options no longer available & on trying to re-select seemed to cause a lot of confusion for the waitress! Bit disappointing we were not told this on arrival!Food was ok,noting "great" about it. We had to ask several times for bottles of water & drinks. I could see into it if they where busy but they weren't there actually was only another 4 or 5 tables in!!The guy working didn't even know if the tins of Guinness they served where draught?? During starters & mains no one came near the table to check if all was ok then when asking for the bill they had added on a service charge of £17.95!! It stated no where about a service charge being applied. Diffidently would not recommend & all 8 off the party agreed they would not be back.
10/03/2017: The atmosphere of this restaurant is bursting with energy, warmth and style. The food was phenomenal with the medium-rare sirloin steak's cooked to perfection.Sean Paul is an absolute legend, provided exceptional customer service right from the onset, producing praiseworthy cocktails and ensuring we were happy at all times - its customer service like this that makes you want to go back.

Harbour, North Down
14/03/2017: Family meal with grandchildren home from university. Whole family had a great night out. Good food good atmosphere.
13/03/2017: Called in for Sunday lunch and it was a good decision. We normally eat next door in Jenny Watts but they have a Jazz session between 12.30 - 3pm which is hard on the ears. It's difficult trying to speak over the sound of 'Cat's Being Strangled' (their interpretation of Jazz music). Anyway finding this quite oasis upstairs in Donegans was a good alternative. The staff were very friendly particularly the guy in charge. We were offered a choice of seats and menus including a specials board. I opted for the half roast chicken and my partner went for a roast beef. Both came nicely presented and hot with a selection of seasonal vegetables. The portions were big, the quality good and the dog certainly enjoyed the leftovers. We would certainly recommend the place and will be back again.

Katch 27

Kircubbin, Ards
28/02/2017: A group of my friends and I visited on Saturday night. Food was absolutely divine and service fabulous. Very friendly staff. I had scampi as my main witch was just perfect beautiful meaty prawns in a light crispy batter. Every thing was just to perfection! Can't wait to go back!!
21/02/2017: Called past here on a Sunday afternoon looking for something that wasn't a 3 course meal on a sunday. No booking but we were sorted. Excellent meal beautifully presented and the staff were very pleasant ant more than helpful. Would definitely return and can see this being a busy restaurant over the summer. A must visit?

Harbour and Company

Donaghadee North, Ards
14/03/2017: We received good service from the moment we arrived and enjoyed beautifully cooked sirloins accompanied by a bottle of excellent red wine. We appreciated the fact that the chef cooked very tasty onion rings at our request despite these not being listed as a menu item. Also, the Irish coffee and sweet that we had finished our meal off on a very high note.
05/03/2017: After reading recommendations I had extremely high expectations of this restaurant. We arrived early on a Saturday evening having pre booked a table the previous day. Our table was close to the windows and tucked away in a corner. The restaurant is nicely laid out and even at 6.30pm it appeared almost full. The waiting staff are very friendly and helpful, if slightly over attentive. We ordered the seafood sharing platter to start and it was a great size to share. The mussels were spicy but very tasty! For mains we both had steak, I was impressed that both were cooked exactly as we had ordered. My partner had the béarnaise sauce which he had to send back. It had appeared to have split whilst cooking however it was substituted within minutes by the friendly waitress. The meal itself was reasonably priced although sides are not included with the steaks. That being said the prices were competitive for the quality of food.Overall we both enjoyed our meals, I'm glad we have tried here but I wouldn't be in a huge rush to return. We will bear it in mind if in the area again!

Lee Lam House

Downshire, Castlereagh
03/02/2017: excellent Chinese takeaway! Chilli chicken was superb and so was the fried rice! \highly recommended takeaway!
30/01/2017: The best Chinese in East Belfast would definitely recommend it I've eaten here for years and never had any problems food Is delicious staff really friendly

Sugar Rays Smokehouse

Ballyhanwood, Castlereagh
15/03/2017: Extensive BBQ menu. Well executed. Tasted fresh with great flavour. 30 quid for two including drinks.
07/03/2017: Really not my cup of tea.Didn't like the presentation in paper, and really really didn't like that all options were deep fried calorific mountains. However the gravy was amazing!Even if this type of fast food was my forte I don't think I would of been blown over im afraid. But each to their own I suppose. Good big portions though!

Pier 36

Donaghadee North, Ards
14/03/2017: We enjoyed several days visit with the wife's cousins. The location is overlooking the beach and harbor. Very nice. The accommodations are excellent as are the food and service. We look forward to another visit.
10/03/2017: Went here last Saturday night. Staff were very friendly and it was welcoming, with a lovely fire burning on a cold wet night. Good choice on menu, order taken and not too long to wait. Food was ok but such small portions. Son piri chicken was tiny with just a pile of sweet potato mash, no veg or anything. It was more like a child's portion. I had beef stir fry, again very small portion. Both these dishes were about £15 each. Would have been happier with paying £8 for the size of each dish. It really is a nice place but should look at prices and portion sizes to bring them more in line. Staff were lovely and friendly.

The Old Schoolhouse Inn

Lisbane, Ards
04/03/2017: We booked quite late, but they managed to squeeze us in. The restaurant is interesting. Panels of sound deadening material line some walls, making a great difference to the atmosphere and the decor. Often modern restaurants are so noisy it can spoil the evening. We enjoyed the background music which was not overpowering, but added to the atmosphere. The food was good, served in rather unusual dishes. My husband had pate and I had duck to start. Both were tasty, as was the home made seeded bread. To follow we both had fish, My husband had hake which he enjoyed, I had a rare treat, sea trout. Again excellent.I had a scoop of artichoke ice cream, which sounds a little odd, but tasted delicious, John had sorbets, green apple and blackcurrant with the artichoke ice cream. The service was really good, friendly and efficient. We will be back.
03/03/2017: Attempted to book a meal here for my wife's birthday on 1st Feb and had the booking cancelled by the restaurant with a few hours notice due to an electrical failure. These things happen, so I tried again last week, booked online and drove to the restaurant, quite a bit off the beaten track. On arrival, in spite of my booking confirmation by email, we were told by staff the restaurant was booked out for a private function. Plan B again after a wasted journey! Can't review the meal unfortunately as I can't get past the entrance hallway!Sorry.

Olive Bizarre

Donard, Down
17/03/2017: This small cafe is at the harbour area of Newcastle. Very popular with local people and always seems to be busy. The friendly staff and good quality food all make this a good cafe outside the main town area.Use it as an excuse to walk out to the harbour and back.
13/03/2017: The atmosphere is different because the decor is different so the place has a distinct air of originality.

Blue Bay Cafe

Dundrum, Down, <20£
14/03/2017: Great little place. Great staff, all food freshly cooked and their coffee is great. All of their cakes are home made and they look very appetizing. Little gem
17/02/2017: Fab cafe. Every time i am in Dundrum i have to hop, over to the Blue Bay cafe. Their scones are the best in N I for sure and better don't forget to mention their super chocolaty brownies! They are a must! Never eaten anything like it and very generous slices. Please try everything in there, well worth it. Lovely place and excellent service. A must!
