19/01/2017: This is a place that I love going to. The surroundings and the service are wonderful. We go for afternoon tea which is served using crisp white tablecloths in beautiful china on lovely cake stands. You can choose your tea preference and everything is so relaxed. If you are shopping or just meeting friends this makes a lovely finish to the afternoon!
18/01/2017: My family and I visited today to celebrate a belated birthday. The atmosphere was amazing, the service first class and the food was superb. We will certainly visit again. Thank You for a beautiful afternoon.

19/01/2017: Amazing food and staff, highly recommended for something a little different, ate in a few places in Edinburgh now and this is up there with my favourites

The Kitchin

Leith, Edinburgh, City of, >100£
19/01/2017: A couple of stand out dishes here for me, the halibut dish and the best hare dish I've ever eaten. Perfect portion size for lunch and a cracking wine pairing. The only reason I'm not giving it 5☆ is my wife's vegetarian menu. It was very nice but nothing outstanding. She was certainly glad she ordered the fish as the main course. The service was great, we had a fantastic table with a kitchen view. It was also nice to be in a fine dining restaurant and have the service charge as a discretionary extra rather than forced on you.
19/01/2017: I had not been since the restaurant had been done up and it looks stunning! Lovely looking and tasting food as always and it was great to see a well thought out vegetarian tasting menu.

Locanda De Gusti

Sighthill / Gorgie, Edinburgh, City of, 20-30£
17/01/2017: absolutely fabulous restaurant in the heart of the City, 2 minutes from Haymarket Station. Great food cooked to perfection with excellent staff so attentive. Second time there, I didn't review it then and I should have.
17/01/2017: Wow, this was something else. The staff were brilliant, the atmosphere great and the food even better. The home made pasta was delightful. When a member of our party had a starter she did not like, the waitress got her another starter. I can't praise this place enough. A really fantastic meal I won't forget. Thank you to all of the staff, you made a memory.....

Number One at The Balmoral

City Centre, Edinburgh, City of, 60-100£
17/01/2017: This was chosen for a treat and that is certainly what we received. The service and attention is exemplary. The food was wonderful and brilliantly presented. We ordered or starter and main courses but while we were reading the menu we were given some savoury petit fours. While we waited for our starters we were given the choice of 3 different freshly baked breads. Between starters and main course we were given a small taste of lobster and a pot of baked apricots, crumble and crème fraiche between main course and dessert. The food we ordered was superb and the service and attention was friendly, relaxed and excellent. The presentation was great and it would be impossible to fault any aspect of the evening. Top of the list has to be the food followed by the staff and the surroundings. Not cheap but we didn't go for that reason.
11/01/2017: We spent a Very enjoyable evening here on Saturday for a friends birthday. staff were very friendly service excellent and food very good, made us feel very welcome.

Leith, Edinburgh, City of, <20£
19/01/2017: This is a frequent stop of mine when I'm travelling on business to Edinburgh, and I've been there 4 times over the course of 2016. The food is fantastic for an old, rustic pub. It has somewhat of a non-traditional pub menu, with some pub favorites thrown in. The sea bream is bar none the best fish I've ever had, anywhere, and the seafood pasta was excellent. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and I was even recognized as "that guy from Colorado" on my third visit. I was happy to see it was Andrew Zimmern's main stop on his Edinburgh episode of Delicious Destinations. I'll continue to make this a stop as long as I'm making the trip across to Edinburgh.
19/01/2017: Another place that never disappoints. Just superb coffee. Sweet Potato and Rosemary soup was outstanding. Very nice attentive staff and comfortable surroundings.

Restaurant Martin Wishart

11/01/2017: I will keep it short, it was a few years ago and I have been 3 or 4 times, even tho it is quite expensive it is worth every penny. you only get what you pay for and the knowledge of the waiters was impressive also.
06/01/2017: We visited on a Tuesday lunch time, expecting it to be be fairly quiet and we were pleasantly surprised by how ambient it was! Without doubt the best food I have had in a very long time. The dishes were absolutely sublime. The ingredients were paired perfectly and I'm sure if I had been able to choose the wine pairing (driving!) this would have also been faultless. The truffle risotto with scallop and white truffle shavings will be my favourite dish for a very long time to come. The flavour was beautiful! The team were fantastic and so efficient! The service was so discreet I have no idea how the knew the things we wanted without asking. We will definitely be back!

Purslane Restaurant

Inverleith, Edinburgh, City of
18/01/2017: Had a lovely meal here. Went for the 7 course taster menu and this was a great choice. The star was the scallop dish, scallops wrapped in smoked ham. Very tender and delicately cooked. The hake was also a delight. Couldn't fault any if the food. Small but adequate portions considering the number of courses. Wine was very reasonably priced. Service was very pleasant and friendly. Surroundings were rustic. Was suprised at how small the restaurant is, small and intimate. Well worth a visit.
16/01/2017: My girlfriend and I recently celebrated our anniversary with a 7 course tasting experience in Purslane. We had an amazing experience and the food was excellent. Each and every wine that was served with our meals was perfectly suited to the food. The waiter and waitress also made a special effort to give some background on the ingredients used in each dish. They were very friendly indeed and made us feel totally welcome, even though we ended up staying very late. I'd highly recommend this restaurant and when we return to Edinburgh we will be returning to Purslane for another beautiful meal. I'd also like to add, the servers and chef went to a special effort to make our evening a wonderful one, and it was greatly appreciated!

Dubh Prais

City Centre, Edinburgh, City of
12/01/2017: Very lovely food and a lovely place to eat on new years eve. Not to crowdly as other places but you just loved the food! we have been there twice to eat and every time it was a pleasure to eat there

City Centre, Edinburgh, City of
17/01/2017: The Caffeine drip is such a great wee place for breakfast, brunch, lunch or a cuppa and a cake. The food is always wonderful in my experience having been here several times. Really interesting decor too stripped back and unfussy. The staff are always nice too.
17/01/2017: I found this review difficult to write, but ultimately increased my rating from average to very good, as I am very conflicted about how I felt after my visit to this cafe for a Sunday breakfast. I guess I am not the target market - to me the food and drinks felt VERY pricey, most likely due to the super premium location of the cafe at the west end. This was particularly the case if you intended to add any optional extras to your meal, which will increase the cost of a meal significantly. If I were a vegan, I'm sure I would appreciate the vast array of options available, and everything I did eat was perfectly nice but nothing special when you compare it to competing places which serve breakfast. The place is tiny and on the busy sunday brunch period was struggling, but the staff were friendly and did their best to cope with the cramped conditions and high number of customers.I won't be returning as for me the price point was too high - but judging by the number of satisfied customers I'd probably say it was just not to my taste and is peraps really in it's element as a specialist lunch venue for vegans and vegetarians, rather than for hungry / slightly hungover breakfast patrons looking for an intravenous coffee hit.

City Centre, Edinburgh, City of
17/01/2017: Brilliant place to hang out and have a few beers or wine. The cheese boards are to die for. The place is very small but the decor and atmosphere are stunning. Thoroughly recommend this place if you can get in.
17/01/2017: Great food, great staff, great atmosphere. We didn't want steak and Pickles offered exactly what we wanted this cold evening in January. Small menu with lot of taste

Yeni Meze Bar

City Centre, Edinburgh, City of, 20-30£
17/01/2017: A fantastic place from great middle eastern meze. Staff were knowledgeable, friendly and chose a banquet for the four of us. A delicious range of hot and cold dishes.Desserts need some work but all in all a wonderful dinner.
15/01/2017: Came here for a bite to eat with friends after work. There is so much delicious food to choose from on the menu and the best recommendation I can give is to order lots of dishes between everyone and have a pick of everything! Staff are very friendly too.

Bramble Bar & Lounge

City Centre, Edinburgh, City of
10/01/2017: Went to bramble for a 21st last January/February. The drinks were great and priced adequately for the service. The 2 guys on the bar had good chat, and made us all feel very welcome. The design of the bar surprised me with no beer on draught, but i just chose other drinks and there was a wide range of bottled beer instead. Cocktails looked fantastic. Hope to come back again soon
08/01/2017: Wonderful hidden gem of the city. Very chilled out atmosphere, small but not overly crowded and excellent cocktails. All beverages are very reasonably priced and the staff were so helpful and very attentive.

Three Birds

Meadows / Morningside, Edinburgh, City of
17/01/2017: This is a little neighbourhood restaurant, frequented by locals. The two courses for £10 lunch is an amazing value for money. We tried pork belly and beef for mains. They were both delicious and came in generous portions. We also found the deserts absolutely fantastic and quite unusual.Service was friendly and quick. Two details that could be improved are the chair cushions, as some of them looked too worn and the table surface that felt a bit too sticky.
02/01/2017: Great food with attentive and friendly staff. Reasonably priced, great value for money and only a 20 minute walk to Princes Street.

Castle Terrace Restaurant

City Centre, Edinburgh, City of
19/01/2017: Had been given a voucher towards a meal at Castle Terrace, so we went for dinner. It was a lovely meal, good atmosphere, and service excellent. I would highly recommend either lunch or dinner here and taste some wonderful creations not just on the menu but also before, inbetween and with our coffee at the end. Lovely also to sit and relax before and after in the "lounge" area. Highly recommend a visit.
17/01/2017: I have to say that this is the best restaurant in Edinburgh .Top quality food .Top quality service .Top quality wine .Please visit as this is by far the best flavours in Edinburgh.
