Roseleaf

Leith, Edinburgh, City of, <20£
19/03/2017: Always brilliant pub with food, excellent brunch, lunch and dinner options for Vegans, Veggies and Meat eaters. Food all made in house. Friendly relaxed attentive staff
17/03/2017: We visited this pub one evening for drinks whilst staying at the nearby Malmaison Hotel. It was a great wee pub, clean, plenty of banter with the staff, good atmosphere, and loads of quirky nic nacs around the pub that was good talking points.I couldn't comment on the food, as we only had drinks, but I would heartily recommned this place for a drink if your in the area

Number One at The Balmoral

City Centre, Edinburgh, City of, 60-100£
19/03/2017: Wonderful experience, absolutely delicious food from the canapés to that petit four trolley! the beef fillet was a stand out dish for us.
16/03/2017: We had a good experience and the staff were lovely, the setting and the hotel are amazing the position at the end of Princes St lends itself to shopping etc. This is an experience and perhaps the food is 4 out of five stars but if you feel like a splurge and spend some cash it is worth a go despite the array of eating places in the city.

Aizle

1 offer
Southside / Newington, Edinburgh, City of, >100£
13/03/2017: This is my kind of venue as it's fine dining within the context of a very relaxed atmosphere. There are simply too few places like this, where one can get Michelin caliber food, for a reasonable price, within a casual restaurant. Looking forward to going back there on my next trip to Edinburgh. J

Dubh Prais

05/03/2017: I lived in Edinburgh for 7 years eating here regularly, however I've been away for 12 years and came bs k up for a weekend away, once again Dubh Prais was outstanding from starter to dessert. Very traditional Scottish food at its best. Thank you.
05/03/2017: We wanted something traditional and the food did not disappoint! Really great food and excellent service. Really nice, cosy atmosphere too. Would definitely recommend!

Pickles

City Centre, Edinburgh, City of
17/03/2017: This bar is so cosy and charming. The staff couldn't be more friendly and helpful.I would recommend to go early as it gets very busy
13/03/2017: If you are looking for a wide and varied menu, look elsewhere If you are looking for a excellent quality food, well presented, with a good wine choice and a fantastically relaxed atmosphere, then this is the place for you.The best thing about Pickles is, it doesn't try to be something it isn't. What it does, it excels at, no fussing.Be aware; you can't book. But this is a positive, there is no rush to get you out of the door, you can while away the evening enjoying a really nice atmosphere.Give it a go, you won't be disappointed.

THE CAFFEINE DRIP

City Centre, Edinburgh, City of
17/03/2017: Food really nice, large portions, staff very helpful we would definetly come back and recommend it others.
15/03/2017: Despite all the rave reviews, I have to add that this place really IS worth a visit. My friend suggested we eat here as she had been before, and to be honest, from the outside, I would never have gone in ... you immediately have to go up or down some stairs and I wasn't convinced. However, we went downstairs and it's lovely inside. Staff are friendly. Coffee is delicious and we had avocado on toast with bacon and the best ever poached eggs. Amazing!

Rhubarb - The Restaurant at Prestonfield

Southside / Newington, Edinburgh, City of, >100£
08/03/2017: We came here for a special birthday meal and it was a fitting venue. It's one of the more expensive restaurants in Edinburgh but was worth it for the occasion as the grounds and building are wonderful. Great staff too, who were very attentive. Tasty food although not large portions but we expected that. It's also lovely to have coffee upstairs and relax in wonderful surroundings. Ideal for a special occasion.
07/03/2017: Impressed from the moment we arrived, we were beckoned into The Stables where they were hosting a wedding event, offered a glass of fizz and told to have a look around, what a great venue, then we walked across the garden to the main hotel/restaurant where we were greeted by a peacock strutting his stuff and a friendly, kilted doorman. We were asked if we would like a pre-lunch drink and were taken into a very comfy lounge with a roaring fire and had one of the best G&T’s I can remember – Pickerings with a slice of grapefruit served alongside some home-made cheesy bites and nuts. We then wandered through to the dining room which was packed to the rafters and sat down to a superb Sunday lunch (£20 for 2 courses and £25 for three). We ate - celeriac soup with truffle oil which was fantastic, chicken liver parfait which apparently was “to die for” and Prestonfields own smoked salmon with horseradish cream, which was also very good. We followed that with Roast Angus beef with all the trimmings, which was everything Sunday lunch should be, rare beef, crispy roast potatoes, an enormous yorkshire pudding and perfectly cooked vegetables. It was a shame we all had to leave for the airport as I could have sat there all afternoon looking at the view of Arthur’s Seat and surrounding countryside. The staff were all friendly, efficient and helpful, we would love to come and stay here and get to fully enjoy their hospitality. Owned by the same group as the Witchery By The Castle, where we had a pretty dismal experience the night before – the owners should take note because clearly they know how it should be done.

The Kitchin

Leith, Edinburgh, City of, >100£
19/03/2017: The wonderful ambiance of The Kichen is down to two things, the superbly trained and attentive staff and the beautiful decor which is a clever combination of industrial meets cosy traditional. This is surpassed however by the food which no language could convey the wonderful tastes and gastronomic experiences which only by first hand experience could be appreciated. Yes it is expensive but for a special occasion or celebration worth every penny. Oh and the wee furry handbag stools are a stroke of genius.
18/03/2017: Four of us went here for dinner on a short break in Edinburgh and had a very enjoyable evening. The atmosphere is much more relaxed than most Michelin starred restaurants but there is still meticulous attention to detail in terms of food and service. The room is a little industrial with the grey colour and iron RSJs but modern and up to date. We loved the additional small courses that we were served on the a la carte and amuse bouche and pre-desert desert. The outstanding dish for me was the scallops baked in their shell with chestnuts and mushrooms - they were quite the nicest scallops I have ever eaten and I have eaten a lot! And the waitress suggested I should eat the puff pasty seal with the scallops which was a great tip. I had the venison which was good but not outstanding and then the apple mille feuille which was outstanding - light fresh and delicious. Others had the sweet breads, the crab cannelloni, the red mullet and the hogget - of which the hogget and sweet breads were again very, very good. The staff were friendly and helpful if a tad obvious in their up-selling to include cheese.

Purslane Restaurant

Inverleith, Edinburgh, City of
16/03/2017: 4 of us had a good meal here with really good service in a nice atmosphere. It didn't quite feel like good value however - everything a little overpriced.
16/03/2017: My husband and I dined at Purslane this evening. We had the 7 course taster menu with wine and it was quite simply divine. Each dish perfectly executed and wines masterfully chosen. The atmosphere is friendly and the staff take the time to explain each dish and discuss your reaction to the flavour combinations. If only we lived closer we would be back for more on a regular basis. If you love great food look no further. Many thanks Purslane for such a memorable evening.

Three Birds

Meadows / Morningside, Edinburgh, City of
18/03/2017: My wife and I visited this restaurant two weeks with my adult daughter. And it was a pleasant atmosphere and good menu. So we decided to book a table of six for yesterday to celebrate my daughters 24th birthday. We booked for six o'clock and it was made clear that we had to completed by 8. The family don't hang around when eating so I didn't think this was an issue. So last night we dined with my elderly father, step mum, wife and both my daughters. The meal progressed albeit at a slow pace. The meal was perhaps not as good as last time but perfectly acceptable. By 7.15 we had completed or main course and then it started. The waitress came with a desert menu and said we needed to order our deserts as quickly as possible. We were then visited by a procession of staff chasing us for order, when received our dishes- had we finished and finally - here's the bill - could we pay please. It was stressful and an experience that I have never had previously when I have eaten out. I was asked when we were settling the bill if everything had been ok. By the way the time was 7.45. I explained how unhappy I was with the way were treated. This was a special occasion and that it was as we were being pushed out the door. The bill was £192 and as a result of my complaint they decided to provide the deserts free. This was £20 off the bill. This was appalling service and the manager clearly did not get the point despite her apologies. So let me state the issues clearly:- the Restaurant gave us the reservation knowing that they needed our table by 8. So they had a duty to serve us promptly and ensure our experience was not ruined. - the restaurant took approximately 40 mins to serve our main course. That was nothing to do with us. It was their responsibility. What was meant to be a special evening was ruined. I will never return and would not recommended it.
18/03/2017: This is about a 25-minute walk from the center of town (Royal Mile/Waverley Station) and well worth the outing. It's a casual bistro-like environment with intensely flavorful and imaginative food - it's a short menu but there will surely be something everyone will like. Very reasonable prices for the quality.

Locanda De Gusti

18/03/2017: Just on our way home after a great meal in Locanda De Gusti. Staff were all very friendly and we had a fantastic meal.Every course was excellent. Everything was cooked and presented to perfection. The restaurant is quite small and tonight as I expect most nights was very busy and booking is a must. Not surprised now about their position on the review list. Certainly would highly recommend this restaurant to everyone. We will certainly be back.

Castle Terrace Restaurant

City Centre, Edinburgh, City of
18/03/2017: We had a wonderful time at the Castle Terrace. The staff where very attentive and polite. The food was elegantly presented and the wine top notch. It maybe the fact it was a Saturday night and it was very busy but it all just felt a little like a well polished conveyor belt with little interaction. We plumped for the secret taster with the exquisite wine. The sommelier was well rehearsed but when we tried to interact it was like heckling a professional comedian! We were shut down on the spot, politely but never the less shut down. The food was better than good but 2 of our course were did not hit the mark, one was to salty (my wife was unable to finish it) and the desert was bland and far to sweet, totally neutralised the amazing desert wine. Not a patch on the deserts at 1 Balmoral. 2 of the course were a triumph and the wine match was second to know. But to be honest when you spend £500 on a meal for 2 then every course should be fighting for top spot and the wines should be. I have eaten and drunk better in Edinburgh for half the price.
18/03/2017: Absolutely loved the place. From the minute you walk in you know your in a top class restaurant. Food was fantastic, wine list extensive and was wonderfully explained and served. Dress code was casual and not stuffy at all. We ate at a number of the top Edinburgh restaurants and this was easily the best.

Wildfire

City Centre, Edinburgh, City of
14/03/2017: Read up on this place whilst in the area, finally found it, it looks like a cosy front room in somebody's house very warm and welcoming. We where lucky to get a table even on a Monday night. The menu choice is good not massive but a good choice. We had Cullen Skink to share as a starter which was very nice, then followed by excellent steak. Steak is not my wife's first choice general but the "surf and turf" she has was the best ever!!!!. I must also mention the wine menu is excellent.Worth a visit but I would pre book next time
12/03/2017: We are here on a Saturday night and we were lucky enough to get a table a few days Before hand, as I understand it books up quickly! The food was fantastic and the service from the two chaps working was exemplary.
