Croft 36

Na Hearadh agus Ceann a Deas nan Loch, Eilean Siar
21/02/2017: Lovely little shed that offers pies, drinks and other provisions. Worth stopping to stock up before a good walk
18/01/2017: as you are very unlikely to find fast ffod/ cafes in nthis area, this little place is a find. It is basically a shed at the end of someones croft and inside it is like a little bakery. The lady of the house gets up very early to make fresh bread, cakes and pastries and you will find a queue and when its gone its gone so go early. Mary Berry eat your heart out. You pay via honesty boxes which is the norm in these parts..... cool drinks cabinet too.

Skoon Art Cafe

Na Hearadh agus Ceann a Deas nan Loch, Eilean Siar
15/02/2017: We stopped here for tea and a cake as we toured the island. It is a lovely spot. Quiet and lovely views. The tea and coffee were good and cakes too.
07/02/2017: You won't find anything else like it. After going up a long, creeping country-road, past old cottages and craggy rocks dotted with the occasional sheep - you eventually arrive at this beautiful little cafe. It's surreal, a little like something the fairies left. So, dropping the kitsch-isms, it really is lovely. Good food, really warm and friendly staff that just seem so relaxed, and a gorgeous set of paintings showing artists' interpretations of the isles. If you're on the island, go. You won't regret it.

Fochabers Chip Shop

Fochabers Lhanbryde, Moray
24/02/2017: I was so excited to be going for gluten free fish and chips today, but it turns out that - once again - Fochabers Fish Bar have delayed their promised two hour slot a month from today (25th Feb) to 11th March. Considering this is the only chip shop I've found to do gf fish and chips and I've been looking forward to it for literally weeks, it's extremely irritating and incredibly disappointing. They have pushed the date back now to a date when I work 12-4 so there's no way I can get gf fish and chips as it's only available 12-2. My partner turned down extra work today so that he could take me. Seriously, if you're going to do gf fish and chips, please do it consistently or not at all. This place is great if you're gluten freen and can get there when they are actually offering it, but don't make the mistake of looking forward to it because in my exprience you'll be consistently disappointment.
13/02/2017: Up in Moray visiting and had heard a lot of good things about this chip shop.Went in for a takeout on Saturday 11th Feb 2017.Chippy was packed but the food was all cooked fresh and it was well worth the wait.Their fish and chips are cooked in beef dripping and the flavour is unreal, totally fantastic. We normally go up to Scotland about 6 to 8 times a year and we will be calling here every time, just brilliant :)

Single Track

Eilean a' Chèo, Highland
31/10/2016: We stopped here by accident whilst touring the island...and although it is tiny and unusual ...it was a really pleasant surprise. Stunning cakes (including the best carrot cake I've tasted) and really nice coffee. Good views too.
29/10/2016: great coffee and cake and views to die for!Friendly service, goodies to buy and an unhurried atmosphere.easy parking and easy to find - but it is a long way "up" Skye!

Red Roof Cafe Gallery

Eilean a' Chèo, Highland, <20£
05/11/2016: We set out to find this highly recommended eatery on a cold blustery day and gave up! On our second try, we were rewarded by being welcomed into a cozy, delightful cafe that served the most delicious food. The service is prompt and friendly and the food fresh, tasty and generally delicious. Note to folks accustomed to driving on wide Canadian roads-- take courage on the single lane road, local drives most accommodating and friendly, sheep relatively content to munch on the side grass and not interfere with the cars.
26/10/2016: Our hosts recommended this cafe to us and we were not disappointed: Very nice service, incredibly tasty homemade food and delicious cakes!

Skye Pie Cafe

Eilean a' Chèo, Highland
05/01/2017: Over the festive period it was only right that I enjoyed the seasonal delights on offer at The Skye Pie Cafe. Not wishing to waste daylight these tasty morsels were taken to my accommodation to be enjoyed after dark.Firstly was the Christmas pie, jammed with Turkey, Stuffing and Cranberry. None of these ingredients were lonely inside the delightful pie crust as there was plenty of filling.Christmas would not be Christmas without a mince pie (or delightful pack of four) bursting with flavour and more than a hint of nuts. No these were great especially when warmed, no danger of me purchasing inferior products from a supermarket next year or wasting time making my own.Enjoy the rest and see you hopefully in 2017.
20/12/2016: We were visiting Skye for the weekend as part of a longer trip to northern Scotland to see family and only had time to drive around the peninsula. Based on TA reviews, we decided to make Skye Pie the destination and hoped for amazing scenery along the way. We were not disappointed. You're driving along feeling like you're in the middle of nowhere (Skye does that), and this cute cottage pops up. It's Skye Pie. As soon as we stepped in, we were greeted warmly and our baby in the car seat was quickly accommodated. The menu is not extensive but it was perfect. We ordered the Angus beef and Fishy Delishy pies and as soon as they came out, we were not disappointed. They were absolutely delicious! Between the country chic decor and the delicious pies, it's worth making the trip. The drive is gorgeous as well. Make sure to carry on around the island and take the shortcut to Uig. It was the best landscape we saw on Skye, wild, uninhabited and romantic. Totally worth it.

Kylesku Hotel Restaurant

North, West and Central Sutherland, Highland
24/02/2017: Drove here for lunch and was not disappointed. Lovely restaurant tastefully decorated with a lovely wood burning stove making it feel nice and cosy. Stunning views of the loch and surrounding hills, dusted in snow. A lovely warm welcome from the staff who were attentive, friendly, and informative. We had a fantastic lunch. Local hand dived scallops to start which were to die for, with a glass of prosecco. Main course of langoustine were equally as good, cooked to perfection. It felt wrong to come to somewhere with such great seafood to have something else. Desserts were also fantastic, especially the whisky tart. I could not recommend this place enough, in fact it's my new favourite place to eat. Just a shame I live in the South East of England.
18/02/2017: We visited around 1530 in the afternoon to find that they weren't serving food between 1500 & 1800. Never the waitress organised us some sandwiches and scones which we were extremely grateful for! So although we didn't manage much in the way of culinary excitement, the staff more than made sure we were ok and we hope to visit again to sample the seafood! Thanks guys!

North Harbour Bistro & Tearoom

Na Hearadh agus Ceann a Deas nan Loch, Eilean Siar
24/02/2017: I love this restaurant and a meal here is a highlight of a trip to the Isle of Harris. I think this is my third visit and the food is as good if not better than my previous visits. I have to mention the scallops which are perfectly cooked and as sweet and juicy as you could possibly imagine. George the chef speaks to all customers personally and is happy to explain the menu or discuss customers needs. He is a very sophisticated chef and a genuinely friendly and approachable man. The restaurant is suitable for all, the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed ..what more can I say....don't miss it if you are in the area
16/02/2017: Lunch was amazeballs today. Pork loin with crispy onions and apple relish focaccia with homemade chips and salad. Still love your steak and onion ciabatta the best though . Service was brilliant and very prompt. The best place on the island to go for lunch or dinner. George and his staff do a fantastic job and I can highly recommend the Bistro

Loch Bay Seafood Restaurant

Eilean a' Chèo, Highland, 60-100£
25/01/2017: Lovely meal with friends, The food was delicious and Laurence suggested some great organic wine which we all enjoyed too. Nice relaxed atmosphere and a very enjoyable evening. Friendly and very good service and will definitely return and recommend to others. 5 Star
02/01/2017: This is now my favourite restaurant and I've been to quite a few good ones ! It has a lovely cozy atmosphere, that was especially important on a wild windy night on Skye. With the most amazing food I have ever tasted. Plus a very reasonably priced menu with a fair price and selection of wines. The gorgeous Michael Smith and his lovely wife Laurence have a lovely team of staff headed up by the attentive Graeme. It is a small intimate restaurant that I cannot rate highly enough. We drove over 1500 kilometers to get here and were not disappointed. We will return!

Rockpool Cafe

Keith and Cullen, Moray
21/02/2017: Had an amazing breakfast here - Scottish breakfasts for my wife and I, and the pancakes and bacon for our 8 year old. Food was great and the service excellent.
12/02/2017: What a wonderful evening! On a cold and rainy night in Cullen my husband and I were lucky enough to have booked a table at Rockpool for one of their very special evening events, this time their Valentines meal. Attention to detail was evident throughout the restaurant - with real white roses as well as red chocolate hearts and Love Heart sweets at each table setting. The individual courses were a total delight, beautifully presented and of outstanding quality. Our fish dishes were sublime. Staff were attentive and friendly and gave us just the right amount of time between courses. Coffee was served with luscious chocolate-dipped strawberries for a great finale. A really special evening for our Valentine celebration. Well done to Rockpool staff and chef for a fantastic event.

Rocpool Restaurant

Inverness Central, Highland
25/02/2017: Enjoyed an excellent meal. Service was spot on and the food was excellent. On arrival, there was a sign on the door saying the place was fully booked, and it's easy to see why. Having been offered to take our coats, we were swiftly shown to our seats. The design of the place is clever, as it allows the waiters to easily move around. The cocktails were well received, with the French martini getting the best vote. My girls loved the scallops as starters and my crab was excellent. The wine choice was also very good and a couple of bottles were thoroughly enjoyed in the fun atmosphere that filled the place. My wife had the lamb which she said was delicious, and my daughters halibut was superbly cooked. My beef cheeks on a mushroom risotto was wonderful. Great night - look forward to returning when I'm next in town
22/02/2017: This is an amazing restaurant that I could not praise highly enough. The food was some of the best I have ever tasted (I had venison) and the staff were very accommodating and friendly.

Digby Chick

Steòrnabhagh a Deas, Eilean Siar
23/02/2017: Ate in this restaurant on Friday 17th FebI was apprehensive due to the unusual name for The Western Isles !When we entered we were warmly met and coats taken and shown to our table .Excellent food beautifully cooked and first class service by very attentive ( but not hovering) staff.Reasonable prices and a good wine list. Will certainly visit on my next Island trip.
20/02/2017: We had a family celebratory dinner, 10 adults and 1 child. One of the adults is vegetarian and doesn't eat mushrooms or goats cheese. James created a bespoke menu and her food was fantastic. The children's portion was very generous. The other adults chose from different menus and the food was excellent quality and enjoyed by all. Great service and a thoroughly enjoyable evening.

LochLeven Seafood Cafe

Fort William and Ardnamurchan, Highland
24/02/2017: We were staying in nearby Kinlochleven and were very excited about visiting LochLeven Seafood Cafe after reading the amazing reviews. Could not have been more disappointed ! Tables crammed so close together we were privvy to other people's conversations. The staff were very keen to get us seated, served and out. The lady who served us didn't seem to like her job very much and this showed. Oddly enough it seemed overstaffed and this led to waitresses milling between tables looking for dishes to take away. My starter plate was whisked away whilst I was still chewing the last mouthful ! The French couple next to us had a waitress loitering behind them and were asked if they were "nearly finished? " !! The food was ok. Nothing to write home about though. I had Trio of Salmon that was three slices of smoked salmon. That was it. I couldn't tell any difference between them. My main was overcooked and the Mussels my husband was so looking forward to were just bland. We have had far nicer seafood for half the price elsewhere. The deserts were the best part of the meal although the staff seemed put out that we wanted a third course. We had saved this visit for our Anniversary but it took the shine off it. We couldn't believe the difference between the reviews and our experience. So much so we double checked later that we hadn't got the wrong place ! In short, it was overpriced and underwhelming. I am amazed at the sheer volume of 5 star reviews to be honest. Each to their own I suppose but we wouldn't go back.
11/01/2017: Si vous aimez la cuisine écossaise vous serez servi avec juste un petit bémol perso, pas de haggis, mais ce n'est pas grave. Une ambiance feutrée au bord du loch... une bonne bière, relax vous êtes en Ecosse

Skerries Bistro

East Mainland, South Ronaldsay and Burray, Orkney Islands, 20-30£
05/02/2017: The building itself is modern & has been architecturally designed with lots go glass everywhere to maximise that feeling of looking out over the cliffs edge. The views are simply stunning, on a good day you can see the mainland & on a stormy day its the perfect place to sit & watch the world pass by. The food is the best on the island, any of the islands. We live in London, and this kind of restaurant would be booked out constantly - the service is wonderful and the seafood an absolute treat. We dined here twice on our week long holiday with our 2 small kids - the staff made us feel really welcome & really made our lunch such an enjoyable experience. Its worth the drive from the mainland - do it!
14/11/2016: The end of the road but oh so worth going!! The food was outstanding particularly the scallops which we were told were caught by the owner's family. The atmosphere was fresh, upscale and felt at one with the location. We could not stop looking through the huge windows onto the ocean.

The Seafood Restaurant

Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh, Highland
09/12/2016: This beautiful little restaurant was the venue for my daughter and son in law's wedding meal. We had the place to ourselves and it was beautifully decorated and cosy with a toasty open fire. The food was absolutely faultless, beautifully fresh seafood.Arrangements with Jann, all done from online and many phone calls were excellent. A special mention for Grace our lovely waitress who was very efficient and good fun. Don't miss this place if you are in the area.
