Croft 36

Na Hearadh agus Ceann a Deas nan Loch, Eilean Siar
18/01/2017: as you are very unlikely to find fast ffod/ cafes in nthis area, this little place is a find. It is basically a shed at the end of someones croft and inside it is like a little bakery. The lady of the house gets up very early to make fresh bread, cakes and pastries and you will find a queue and when its gone its gone so go early. Mary Berry eat your heart out. You pay via honesty boxes which is the norm in these parts..... cool drinks cabinet too.
31/12/2016: Stop here for amazing lunch when on your adventures in Harris! The meat pies are delicious, really great pastry and meat. They also sell home baking such as fluffy rolls and the most amazing frangipani with home made jam inside. This is our regular food stop when in Harris. They also make amazing curries to take away and onion bajjis.

Ellishadder Art Cafe

Eilean a' Chèo, Highland

Skoon Art Cafe

Na Hearadh agus Ceann a Deas nan Loch, Eilean Siar
20/11/2016: We had driven the golden road, seen Eagles, seals, moonscapes and mountains, around the next bend we followed the sign for the art cafe, and within minutes were sat inside a croft, looking at local paintings, reading history books and tucking into scones jam and cream, sponge cakes, and a cheese board......and we came away with a complete art set from the gallery, fully refreshed, for more seals, scenery and setting out for tarbet along the last bit of the golden road. Only downside is that we drove the loop around the west of Harris meaning we didn't pass again on the way back home......saving it for another visit.
30/10/2016: Stopped in to check the place out as heard about it in a travel guide. Nestled in a gorgeous little setting and had the most amazing artwork inside! Fresh baking every day, nice selection - recommend the brownie!

Glen Rowan Cafe

Aird and Loch Ness, Highland, <20£
02/11/2016: Popped past here for a meal whilst waiting to get to the lodges! Was a lovely wee place and well worth the visit! They make the best coleslaw!
28/10/2016: We were turned back by an accident on the Inverness Road, and faced a longer journey on the south side of the Loch. Fortunately, we found this warm, friendly cafe to rest at.Food is very simple - fresh local bread, generous home-made fillings to sandwiches - and hearty, home made soup!!Recommend it very highly for a 'pit-stop'.

Single Track

Eilean a' Chèo, Highland
31/10/2016: We stopped here by accident whilst touring the island...and although it is tiny and unusual ...it was a really pleasant surprise. Stunning cakes (including the best carrot cake I've tasted) and really nice coffee. Good views too.
29/10/2016: great coffee and cake and views to die for!Friendly service, goodies to buy and an unhurried atmosphere.easy parking and easy to find - but it is a long way "up" Skye!

Red Roof Cafe Gallery

Eilean a' Chèo, Highland, <20£
05/11/2016: We set out to find this highly recommended eatery on a cold blustery day and gave up! On our second try, we were rewarded by being welcomed into a cozy, delightful cafe that served the most delicious food. The service is prompt and friendly and the food fresh, tasty and generally delicious. Note to folks accustomed to driving on wide Canadian roads-- take courage on the single lane road, local drives most accommodating and friendly, sheep relatively content to munch on the side grass and not interfere with the cars.
26/10/2016: Our hosts recommended this cafe to us and we were not disappointed: Very nice service, incredibly tasty homemade food and delicious cakes!

North Harbour Bistro & Tearoom

Na Hearadh agus Ceann a Deas nan Loch, Eilean Siar
09/12/2016: This little restaurant looks like a shop from the inside but once you're in there it's very cosy and everything is neat and clean. If you're lucky enough to get a table by the windows you almost forget to eat because the view over the bay is so beautiful! I'm a vegetarian and had a really nice goat's cheese salad with wholegrain toast and tea. The couple beside me had a three-course-meal with fish and stuff, and they were really happy with the experience as well. I'd recommend this place to anyone!
02/12/2016: had the privilege of being the first customers of the winter opening. This little restaurant is a must for people who appreciate excellent seafood (or meat) Flavours and seasoning spot on, combinations of ingredients delightful and staff lovely. Can not recommend highly enough, our trips to Harris revolve around how often we can fit in a trip here. Bring your own wine a bonus and prices very reasonable.

Skye Pie Cafe

Eilean a' Chèo, Highland
05/01/2017: Over the festive period it was only right that I enjoyed the seasonal delights on offer at The Skye Pie Cafe. Not wishing to waste daylight these tasty morsels were taken to my accommodation to be enjoyed after dark.Firstly was the Christmas pie, jammed with Turkey, Stuffing and Cranberry. None of these ingredients were lonely inside the delightful pie crust as there was plenty of filling.Christmas would not be Christmas without a mince pie (or delightful pack of four) bursting with flavour and more than a hint of nuts. No these were great especially when warmed, no danger of me purchasing inferior products from a supermarket next year or wasting time making my own.Enjoy the rest and see you hopefully in 2017.
20/12/2016: We were visiting Skye for the weekend as part of a longer trip to northern Scotland to see family and only had time to drive around the peninsula. Based on TA reviews, we decided to make Skye Pie the destination and hoped for amazing scenery along the way. We were not disappointed. You're driving along feeling like you're in the middle of nowhere (Skye does that), and this cute cottage pops up. It's Skye Pie. As soon as we stepped in, we were greeted warmly and our baby in the car seat was quickly accommodated. The menu is not extensive but it was perfect. We ordered the Angus beef and Fishy Delishy pies and as soon as they came out, we were not disappointed. They were absolutely delicious! Between the country chic decor and the delicious pies, it's worth making the trip. The drive is gorgeous as well. Make sure to carry on around the island and take the shortcut to Uig. It was the best landscape we saw on Skye, wild, uninhabited and romantic. Totally worth it.

Loch Bay Seafood Restaurant

Eilean a' Chèo, Highland, 60-100£
02/01/2017: This is now my favourite restaurant and I've been to quite a few good ones ! It has a lovely cozy atmosphere, that was especially important on a wild windy night on Skye. With the most amazing food I have ever tasted. Plus a very reasonably priced menu with a fair price and selection of wines. The gorgeous Michael Smith and his lovely wife Laurence have a lovely team of staff headed up by the attentive Graeme. It is a small intimate restaurant that I cannot rate highly enough. We drove over 1500 kilometers to get here and were not disappointed. We will return!
14/12/2016: This was one of our finest restaurant experiences in a very long time. We both had the 3-course dinner menu, with free home made bread & seafood amuse bouches. Absolute highlights were the spinach & seafood bourride & a heavenly, light, 'Cloutie Dumpling' with a hint of Talisker cream. Can't wait to make the trek out to the gorgeous scenery of Skye & have the seafood tasting menu next time. Really knowlegeable, attentive & pleasant service. When considering the superb quality of the cooking, this meal was incredibly good value for money. Thank you.

First Fruits Tearoom

Na Hearadh agus Ceann a Deas nan Loch, Eilean Siar
06/12/2016: First fruits tearoom serves basic pub food and hot drinks. My friends and I enjoyed every moment of this pleasant lunch in this warm and very welcoming tearoom. The burger is very tasty. On top of that, everything is cheap and the waiters, waitresses and management are very kind and friendly. The best place for a first meal on the Isle of Harris.
23/10/2016: This first fruit tearoom is the perfect place to walk into in Harris, you are made very welcome by the staff who are always to hand to find you a seat if really busy at least they tell you in a very pleasant manor, food is lovely anything you ask for that you don't see on menu the staff will always do there best for you,Steve the owner what can you say he always has a cheerful smile when you.enter that door, certainly I would recommend anyone no matter your nationality you won't be dissappointed

Rocpool Restaurant

Inverness Central, Highland
17/01/2017: I have eaten at Rocpool many times and it is our favourite place in Inverness. The food is always excellent, the host, Steven, is very attentive and clearly passionate about his menu and the quality of the food. Although the restaurant is always busy, he always has time to chat, offer wine advice, and generally makes us feel welcome. The decor is modern but cosy and the scallops are to die for, closely followed by the freshly made lemon meringue pie. The 2- course lunch menu is great value, and as long as you don't add wine, desserts and coffee, you can eat very cheaply (this is incredibly difficult to do in reality though as the food is so well put together that it feels like a special occasion every time, making wine and desserts a must, surely...?). Full marks from me, always.
16/01/2017: We eat at the Rocpool whenever we have the opportunity - sadly, not that often as we live some way away - and are never disappointed. Last week we had a pre-theatre dinner from the early evening menu and every aspect of it was perfect. We arrived before they opened, but the very friendly and welcoming waitress invited us in out of the rain and served us with a drink while we were waiting for the kitchen to be ready to take our order. We had a starter and a main - perfectly cooked, beautifully presented, absolutely delicious and the service was warm, friendly and efficient. My partner had Pinot Noir by the glass and said it was the best wine he'd ever been served by the glass and he's tried quite a few over the years!Full marks to all the staff - we can't recommend the Rocpool highly enough.

Kylesku Hotel Restaurant

North, West and Central Sutherland, Highland
01/12/2016: A warm welcome by young staff in a modern stylish hotel and restaurant at an old ferry crossing and now bridge in the middle of spectacular scenery. The menu was knowledgeably and enthusiastically explained, highlighting the local sourcing of the ingredients. We chose a variety of seafood which was well presented and delicious. The bar has a good selection of local beers and spirits. The stop is recommended.
18/11/2016: Lovely location, we arrived late for our dinner reservation, but on phoning ahead, we were told that this was not a problem. After a long day fishing, this was just what we needed; beautiful locally caught seafood and some nice ales!

Kishorn Seafood Bar

Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh, Highland
31/10/2016: Very friendly staff. Excellent food very fresh and promptly prepared. I could not fault this venue at all. It's also refreshing to receive fresh Scottish seafood in Scotland for a change!

11/11/2016: The best fish and chips I have ever had, we were staying in portknockie for a week with friends, and we all agreed that this is the best chippy around
