North Harbour Bistro & Tearoom

Na Hearadh agus Ceann a Deas nan Loch, Eilean Siar
19/03/2017: Ate here on a Monday night for a friend's birthday celebration. Lots of choice. Enjoyed a tasty bowl of soup and lovely steak.
16/03/2017: Yet again, another fabulous visit to this outstanding restaurant. Tucked in on the shores of East Loch Tarbert, is this culinary gem. For such a small intimate location, the chef (George) produces outstanding food and has an extensive menu to chose from. Even on a cold windy day the warm welcome from George and his staff is heartwarming.Miss having a meal here at your peril, looking forward to our next visit already.

Skye Pie Cafe

Eilean a' Chèo, Highland
05/01/2017: Over the festive period it was only right that I enjoyed the seasonal delights on offer at The Skye Pie Cafe. Not wishing to waste daylight these tasty morsels were taken to my accommodation to be enjoyed after dark.Firstly was the Christmas pie, jammed with Turkey, Stuffing and Cranberry. None of these ingredients were lonely inside the delightful pie crust as there was plenty of filling.Christmas would not be Christmas without a mince pie (or delightful pack of four) bursting with flavour and more than a hint of nuts. No these were great especially when warmed, no danger of me purchasing inferior products from a supermarket next year or wasting time making my own.Enjoy the rest and see you hopefully in 2017.
20/12/2016: We were visiting Skye for the weekend as part of a longer trip to northern Scotland to see family and only had time to drive around the peninsula. Based on TA reviews, we decided to make Skye Pie the destination and hoped for amazing scenery along the way. We were not disappointed. You're driving along feeling like you're in the middle of nowhere (Skye does that), and this cute cottage pops up. It's Skye Pie. As soon as we stepped in, we were greeted warmly and our baby in the car seat was quickly accommodated. The menu is not extensive but it was perfect. We ordered the Angus beef and Fishy Delishy pies and as soon as they came out, we were not disappointed. They were absolutely delicious! Between the country chic decor and the delicious pies, it's worth making the trip. The drive is gorgeous as well. Make sure to carry on around the island and take the shortcut to Uig. It was the best landscape we saw on Skye, wild, uninhabited and romantic. Totally worth it.

Loch Bay Seafood Restaurant

Eilean a' Chèo, Highland, 60-100£
14/03/2017: Sadly, the meal this time was rather disappointing. On many previous visits, the large selection of fresh seafood was an absolute delight and the reason we returned so many times and gave the restaurant good reviews on Trip Advisor. There has been a change of ownership and the focus is now with a modern French twist, which may suit others, but was not to our liking. The only main course fish available this time, was Cod with a bland green sauce and I had to ask what it was. Our desserts were again tasteless and left virtually untouched, but we were not asked if anything was wrong. We can't recommend it as we did previously. Whilst dining at another venue on the mainland during our drive home, we were told Loch Bay now has a reputation for being pretentious and overpriced. We would agree.
13/03/2017: We had an amazing meal at the Loch Bay, choosing from the dinner menu. Every course was absolutely delicious, a great mix of traditional Scottish dishes with a French flourish, with exceedingly fresh local ingredients. The staff were all really friendly and helpful and there was wonderful French cafe jazz playing throughout. The restaurant is pretty small (about 20 seats) but laid out in a way that felt nicely intimate and romantic. I would highly recommend a visit to Loch Bay, we will certainly be back next time we visit the island!

LochLeven Seafood Cafe

Fort William and Ardnamurchan, Highland
13/03/2017: We never arrange a trip in Scotland with out stopping here for a fabulous meal. The Gift shop next door has a great range of Spanish pottery and fresh shell fish to take away. Every part of your meal is cooked to order. The view over Loch Leven with the Pap of Glencoe in the back ground is out standing. The host and staff are very friendly and willing to give advise, Well worth the visit. We will be stopping of again this year glad we found this little treasure.
24/02/2017: We were staying in nearby Kinlochleven and were very excited about visiting LochLeven Seafood Cafe after reading the amazing reviews. Could not have been more disappointed ! Tables crammed so close together we were privvy to other people's conversations. The staff were very keen to get us seated, served and out. The lady who served us didn't seem to like her job very much and this showed. Oddly enough it seemed overstaffed and this led to waitresses milling between tables looking for dishes to take away. My starter plate was whisked away whilst I was still chewing the last mouthful ! The French couple next to us had a waitress loitering behind them and were asked if they were "nearly finished? " !! The food was ok. Nothing to write home about though. I had Trio of Salmon that was three slices of smoked salmon. That was it. I couldn't tell any difference between them. My main was overcooked and the Mussels my husband was so looking forward to were just bland. We have had far nicer seafood for half the price elsewhere. The deserts were the best part of the meal although the staff seemed put out that we wanted a third course. We had saved this visit for our Anniversary but it took the shine off it. We couldn't believe the difference between the reviews and our experience. So much so we double checked later that we hadn't got the wrong place ! In short, it was overpriced and underwhelming. I am amazed at the sheer volume of 5 star reviews to be honest. Each to their own I suppose but we wouldn't go back.

Rocpool Restaurant

Inverness Central, Highland
08/03/2017: Burst of flavours in the mouth. Excellent food cooked to perfection. Good service. A must visit in Inverness if your budget allows for it.
08/03/2017: Visited on Saturday 4th March for my wife's birthday!I am not going to go too deeply into the food detail but I just want to reiterate my review from two years previous... This is literally the best Inverness has.Yes some things are slightly annoying - the head waiter taking my phone off me at the table was irritating (I was checking my wife's birthday wishes at the time).. and the toiles have been an issues since one plus one days (yes I am that old)But he food is great and the service matches it relentlessly.Maybe not Michelin yet - but not too far off(three courses with coffee and brandy - bottle of red £125)

The Seafood Restaurant

Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh, Highland
09/12/2016: This beautiful little restaurant was the venue for my daughter and son in law's wedding meal. We had the place to ourselves and it was beautifully decorated and cosy with a toasty open fire. The food was absolutely faultless, beautifully fresh seafood.Arrangements with Jann, all done from online and many phone calls were excellent. A special mention for Grace our lovely waitress who was very efficient and good fun. Don't miss this place if you are in the area.

Red Roof Cafe Gallery

Eilean a' Chèo, Highland, <20£
12/03/2017: Went for the sticky buns. Not very sticky. Pretty dry. No nuts, raisins or frosting. Bread ok. No one there. Cute shop but not much morning action.
11/03/2017: We followed the signs at the bottom of the Glendale road to this lovely little cafe which had rave reviews, only to find that it has closed for the 2017 season. May I politely suggest that it might be a good idea to either take your signs down, or at the very least cover them over until you are ready to trade? I was very disappointed.

Sea Breezes

Eilean a' Chèo, Highland
28/02/2017: We came here on our last holiday and the food was excellent. Had the soup of the day, which was delicious and the mussels - also very, very good. The staff was friendly and we will definitely return when we are at the Isle of Skye this August! I think since it is so small reservations are good to make!
15/02/2017: Excellent restaurant de produits de la mer. le cadre est agréable et très typique. Les plats sont sans fioriture mais excellents. Un vrai bonne découverte. Il est important de réservez une table assez en avance.
