The Rialto

East Berwickshire, Scottish Borders
16/01/2017: One of the best cups of coffee I have had in a long time. Nothing is too much trouble, when it comes to coffee, you can try it brewed in different ways and they will all taste different. Not like the coffee from the chain's.
04/01/2017: Visited this wee gem of a coffee house whilst down in Coldingham for a weekend. We were made to feel very welcome by the owner and his wife. We were asked if we liked coffee and were offered a panama blend which was delicious. So delicious we ordered another carafe. We had toasties and the tuna melt toastie was the best we have tasted. We went for a walk around the harbour and returned for another coffee and home baking on our way back to our cottage. Thoroughly recommend to anyone to stop by and go through the back and sit in the comfy chairs with the fire on. Good chat, excellent coffee and food.

Brunos

Lochar, Dumfries & Galloway
17/01/2017: This is my favourite restaurant. The food is consistently good and the staff vigilant and attentive as well as being friendly. All the flavours in the dishes are so fresh, I have so many ' favourites '. The tiramisu is the best outside of Italy and the spaghetti carbonara is to die for. The pizzas are perfection with nice thin bottoms and a great variety of toppings. Simply the best.
28/12/2016: This is my very favourite restaurant in Dumfries. Staff are attentive, friendly and welcoming. Food is delicious! Steaks, pastas, pizzas, I've tried most of the menu and it's amazing. My one, small, critique would be that the decor could do with modernising.

Saffron

Tweeddale East, Scottish Borders, <20£
17/01/2017: Excellent food, very good prices. It's a bit of a gem in Innerleithen. Nice and small. Which means getting a table can be an issue sometimes but they do takeaway as well. We've been going since it opened and it's consistently good.
23/12/2016: Came here for a pre-Christmas dinner with the fam. The restaurant is small but perfectly formed, the staff are friendly and evidently take pride in what they do, and above all else the food is phenomenal.I had the Chicken Bhuna Phoori starter (sp?), and it was possibly the nicest Indian Dish I've ever had. Mains are all fab, and serve a wide range of pallets (no spice to spices).Requires booking if you want to sit in, but I couldn't fault having this as a carry out. 5 stars just doesn't seem enough!

Ebb Carr's

East Berwickshire, Scottish Borders
15/01/2017: Called in on a Sunday lunch in January. Very friendly staff ( family) who provided great service and value for money food!Cullen Skink and scots broth delicious. Small cafe in a great location. Noticed they were very family friendly for other customers with young children
11/12/2016: If you want fresh crab or lobster then this is the place. Okay, my granddad was born in the village and we keep a house there and visit at least 3 times a year but...BUT.....it's the taste of the food coupled with the setting and the atmosphere that makes the place just lovely for me. The staff are excellent and the service even when busy is quick, lively and always with a smile. The fresh crab is divine and the fresh lobster....you will never taste better.Nothing negative at all. And my wife loves the choice of deserts.....

Brodies

Annandale North, Dumfries & Galloway
18/01/2017: Live locally but checked their website just to be sure. It said "it is advisable to book, or please allow up to twenty minutes" for afternoon tea - fair enough as we weren't sure exactly when we would arrive. Upon arriving at around 15:30 only one table was occupied but we were told we wouldn't be served high tea as we didn't book. Very disappointing customer service and not what their website says which does raise issues about trading standards. Won't be booking here in the future.
08/01/2017: I visited Brodies after a nice walk up the Grey Mare's Tail with my mum. I asked if there were vegan options and the waiter immediately rushed to the kitchen to see what the chef could come up with. I was given a few lovely sounding options and opted for the rocket salad with chickpea fritters, which were absolutely delicious. Really nice decor, staff and brilliant food. Well done Brodies! I look forward to returning.

Buon Gusto Ristorante

Selkirkshire, Scottish Borders
24/12/2016: We had a great early dinner here. Their fresh pasta, stuffed with various tasty fillings, or papardelle with octopus are superb. Puddings rather good as well. And a delicious pate to start with. Genuine Bologna flavours, and a friendly welcome as well. Can't wait to visit again, despite the drive to get there.
07/12/2016: As always freshly made food by the Italian owner. Pasta to die for Very good value menu with something for everyone. Friendly service. Great wine

Campbell's Restaurant

Stranraer and North Rhins, Dumfries & Galloway
04/01/2017: We recently had a weekend in portpatrick and tried to book a table for both evenings and unfortunately they couldn't accommodate us,this shows how popular it is.We did manage to get in late afternoon and the scallops starter wrapped in bacon was unbelievable. My main was rack of lamb that was to die for .The staff were also very professional and helpful in menu choices. If you decide to go portpatrick book well in advance so that you won't be disappointed.
28/12/2016: This is a very understated place at end of seafront overlooking little harbour .The chefs here know how to handle seafood extremely well abd with little fuss and there is also a surprisingly extensive offering of all types / styles of other options non - seafood - reallly good and very good value - don't pass up a chance to visit !

Allanton Inn

East Berwickshire, Scottish Borders
17/01/2017: Excellent service and food made this a location to remember and put on the list for a return for a return visit next time I'm in the locality
08/01/2017: We booked a table for two for New Year's Day and were not disappointed. The food, although a little more expensive than an average meal, was seasonal, sourced locally and was delicious. Would highly recommend the fish and chips! It was also lovely and quiet with a very relaxed, informal atmosphere. The waiting staff were attentive and exceptionally friendly. If we are nearby again we wouldn't hesitate in dropping in. Allanton is a lovely little village and the Allanton Inn is definitely worth a stop enroute if in the area.

The Cobbles - Freehouse & Dining

Kelso and District, Scottish Borders, >100£
17/01/2017: A dinner with friends last weekend. Good service - almost too good. There is folk singing on a Friday evening so the staff are keen to get dinner finished.Food was good but not exciting. Pigeon starter - eaten by three out of four - got the thumbs up. The wine list doesn't fit with pub food. It is too expensive for a pub menu. Nothing wrong with either but just not a good match. However, a good evening and only writing this as feedback - not as a complaint.
15/01/2017: On a recommendation from a local we visited The Cobbles on a Friday evening. The atmosphere of the little pub, as with the staff, was most welcoming, offering a wide choice of craft beers! The pale ale was a winner! To the restaurant where the enjoyable experience continued with attentive staff and an interesting menu. Sharing the liver pate to start and then enjoying a delicious main with a good choice of wine available, made for a great evening! Suggest you pre-book at the weekend as it is popular!!! All in all, The Cobbles sets the standard for Kelso!! Don't miss it!!!!

No1 Peebles Road

Tweeddale East, Scottish Borders
11/01/2017: Great coffee, excellent food. Only one draw back is that sometimes cant get a seat but that in itself speaks volumes about how good it is.
07/12/2016: There is a little notice on the wall that says that the food is cooked fresh to order - you may have to wait a while. Take note of this, go in with the right frame of mind - or go with a book or someone that you can chat with - and you will be rewarded with a truly excellent (in our case) breakfast. The people are lovely - we even asked how they did their scrambled eggs because they were so good; they told us and we have been doing them their way ever since.Worth diverting off your planned route to experience.
