The Rialto

East Berwickshire, Scottish Borders
23/02/2017: This was a wonderful find on a cold day in Eyemouth. The owners are really friendly and welcoming, nicer people you couldn't wish to meet. We sat by an open fire and ate a bowl of chickpea tagine ( meat options also available) and drank delicious coffee. After a walk around the beautiful coastal cliff top path we returned for indulgent tea (loose leaf wow!) and cake. We would go out of our way to make a return trip when next on holiday and would like to encourage the owners to set up shop in Saltaire if ever they expand!
20/02/2017: great wee find, the owners are so friendly and very helpful, like a home from home, have used this place more than once, would be missing out on a real treat if you dont try it, and especially all the home baking

We opted for the main menu & really enjoyedour food, it was well presented, a bit big for us, but that did not deter us from eating it all. Warm friendly atmosphere. Would definitely recommend.

18/02/2017: Best fillet of beef with a wonderful sauce. Sea bream wonderful. Charming front of house staff. Diningroom staff very considerate of my elderly guest and produced a cushion to heighten the chair. I will be back very soon!,,

Casa Mia

Mid and Upper Nithsdale, Dumfries & Galloway
25/02/2017: All meals were enjoyed and the staff, especially the manager were polite and efficient. The best restaurant offering Italian meals in Dumfries
20/02/2017: We visited this lovely place whilst in Scotland. We turned up late for dinner, around 9pm, which is usually to late for food in a lot of places. But here it was absolutely fine. They welcomed us in and took us to our table.Nothing was too much trouble!! Really friendly and helpful staff. We definitely had one the best meals we have had for a long time in there. The steak was to die for! I'll warn you, if you are to have the black pudding and haggis salad for starters, it is amazing....but be prepared not to want your mains! (I can put a fair amount away) but this was certainly even at my limit. The food was to good to stop there! So, as you do. I carried on an had my sorbet they bring out in between and mains, then dessert! Each course was delicious and I truly recommend trying if you get a chance. We will certainly be going back!!

Annandale North, Dumfries & Galloway
24/02/2017: Tasteful decor, great food, attentive staff, very comfy furniture and lovely gin lounge with a great selection of gins, well served. All in all a super atmosphere and great place to meet friends which we do as often as we can.
23/02/2017: I've been here a few times when visiting my mum in Moffat. Lovely place, now with a new extension of a 40's inspired room to chill out with your coffee and cake etc. Drinks are lovely, cakes are delicious. Cannot comment on meals, as yet to have some here. Staff very friendly. Looking forward to relaxing here with hot chocolate and cake again the next time I'm in Moffat.

The Cobbles - Freehouse & Dining

Kelso and District, Scottish Borders, >100£
14/02/2017: Four of us have been to this pub/restaurant on 3 occasions. No complaints at all. The food is reaching a high standard and the service is lovely. Great beer too in a warm friendly atmosphere.
13/02/2017: In a historic building, this restaurant makes an inventive effort to please locals and passers by. There are many eating spots in Kelso, so distoctiveness is vital. The range of local beers on tap is impressive, and the bar and restaurant menus mix local produce and more adventurous cooking styles. The mastermind, Luca, knows the business, and balances his care for customers with his sharp scrutiny of the restaurant's standards. You get what you pay for, and there is genune value for money. Even the haggis dishes have their own style.

No1 Peebles Road

Tweeddale East, Scottish Borders
22/02/2017: This is a small and very friendly cafe with an interestingly varied menu, catering for locals and visiting bikers and walkers. There's outdoor seating and people are encouraged to share the tables with other diners. I had an avocado and tomato on brushetta and it was excellent.
18/02/2017: Popped in for brunch and it was well worth it. Lovely atmosphere and great food and service. Busy place, with lots of locals popping in.

Galloway Lodge

Dee, Dumfries & Galloway, >100£
23/02/2017: Fantastic and friendly staff! Had an amazing time here on my last trip to Galloway.Great value, fabulous coffee and the food is amazing! I will definitely be back and will be bringing my friends! Also, be sure to buy some jam, I stock up each visit!
15/02/2017: We have been several times and food is always great and the specials boards worth investigating. That said I have had the all day breakfast a few times, hence my love of their marmalade! It can get busy, but that is a sign of how good it is. If you are a local don't forget the loyalty card and get a free coffee.

Mrs Greens Tea Lounge

Nith, Dumfries & Galloway, <20£
23/02/2017: We have lunch everytime we are in Dumfries , which is often. Absolutely love this place , quirky, great staff & fabulous food. Not to be missed.
14/02/2017: Delicious fresh food in a quirky 1940s atmosphere! Friendly waitresses dressed as glamorous wartime girls. Great decor and music too.

Dee, Dumfries & Galloway, <20£
16/02/2017: We arrived at at 7:40; the website says winter opening hours are until 9pm on the night of our visit; the sign on the door said until 8:30pm. No matter; we had at least 50 minutes to sit and eat a meal (or 70 minutes per the published website opening times); there were people eating when we arrived and 4 empty tables. We were told by staff they stop serving to the tables at 7:15pm. It does not say this anywhere on the signage outside; nor on the signage within; nor in the section of their website dedicated to eating in the establishment. How is the hungry traveller to deduce this crutial information. Imagine our dismay and disappointment.Be early or avoid.
03/02/2017: Was recommended this place for the best fish and chips and it certainly lived up to expectation. The fish was fresh, the batter light and crispy and the chips just right. We ate in and were pleased with the service. Very clean, food cooked to order

Campbell's Restaurant

Stranraer and North Rhins, Dumfries & Galloway
20/02/2017: Stylish restaurant is set in a beautiful setting close to the Port. The atmosphere is wonderful, all the staff are very friendly and professional. Excellent service..We all had many different meals. I had seafood for my starter and main course and it was simply delicious not only visually but taste and all with wonderful salad garnishes .the finishing touches and attention to detail made it a wonderful dining experience and I would highly recommend this restaurant and will return again when I visit PortPatrick.
14/02/2017: The obvious choice for a family celebration of a big birthday, our favourite restaurant. Food is of the highest quality, especially the fish and seafood. Just landed is as fresh as you can get. Staff are all well trained and very friendly. Special requests, or variations to the menu are not a problem. Children are made very welcome. Cannot recommend highly enough. Have visited many times for many years, never been disappointed.

Harbour Inn

Mid Galloway, Dumfries & Galloway
16/02/2017: My partner and I stayed at the Harbour Inn at the beginning of February 2017 after having visited it in the previous August with friends. A relaxing weekend break is what we were hoping for, and that's just exactly what we got. The staff at the Harbour Inn are extremely freindly, and they do everything they can to make your stay a pleasure. Nothing is too much hassle! In terms of the restaurant itself, the food is great and very well priced! I have the most delicious Trout Parfait as a starter and it was so good, that I'd love the recipe, so that I could make it at home. We stayed for the weekend and the cooked breakfast was made to my specific choice as well as everyone else being catered for to their needs and I do like a very large breakfast, which wasn't an issue for the very accommodating staff! All in all... Very good value for money and a very comfortable stay in spotless rooms!
16/02/2017: Booked on short notice based on fact we had once (5 years ago been to Garlieston and it was very scenic). Not overly expensive so expected OK overnight stay ........... it delivered well beyond my expectations. Staff very pleasant and accommodating. Room excellent (clean / comfortable / outstanding view). Bar busy (it had a buzz). Food (pub grub), but reasonably priced, very tasty (and more than I could manage!). Breakfast as expected (fresh / filling). All in all a very easy stay and value for money.

Coltman's Delicatessen & Kitchen

Tweeddale West, Scottish Borders
24/02/2017: Found this excellent deli & kitchen in the heart of Peebles. It was so busy we had to eat upstairs in their private bar area, but that wasn't a problem as there were a few other people there too. What a lovely place; very nice food; very friendly; well managed. Food was excellent - club sandwich was a great choice and the soup and sandwich combo was great too. My husband told me his latte was also very good. Reasonably priced - good time we're in Peebles we'll definitely pop in.
20/02/2017: Coltmans has a coffee shop, deli and restaurant under one roof. We visited a number of times during our short stay in Peebles and were not disappointed. The deli/lunch options were fresh and very tasty. On the pricier side, but the quality of the food reflects this. Very friendly service and accommodating of any special requests (we ordered a take-away lunch for collection the following day). Some dishes are available everyday, but there is also a changing selection of savoury tarts, salads, soups and sandwiches. Lovely views over the Tweed from the rear.

The Smithy

North West Dumfries, Dumfries & Galloway
11/12/2016: This is a lovely small café that we visit often. Most of the time the food is great and the staff are always helpful and friendly. On one visit, the food wasn't great, but ever since I can't fault it and we keep going back. I took my father who was visiting and he thoroughly enjoyed the apple pie. Will look forward to going again next year. The small shop is well worth a visit, and it well stocked with lovely local crafts.
27/10/2016: We always visit whilst in the area and found it to be as good as ever. Delicious quiche and salad: salad dressing is excellent, cheese and haggis toastie and a child's portion of macaroni cheese were all greatly enjoyed.
