Stranraer and North Rhins, Dumfries & Galloway
16/08/2017: Booked a table for half 6, when we arrived we were greeted by a friendly face, waitress very polite and made us both feel very welcome, ordered our food and when it arrived we wasnt disappointed, for starter we had the salt and pepper squid and tempura prawns and asparagus, rocket and palma ham salad, presented beautiful and tasted fantastic, for mains we both had the mixed shellfish grill and oh my gosh we didnt know where to start but it was absolutely delicious, all of the staff were just wonderful and we both highly recommend eating at Campbell's we will definitely be back when we are up next year!!
14/08/2017: With his own fishing boat moored in the harbour, these guys know fish. Great menu, food and most tables overlook the village and port. Great for a romantic meal.

Townhead Hotel Bar Restaurant

Annandale North, Dumfries & Galloway, 20-30£
17/08/2017: Enjoyed a quiet restful meal after a long journey. Also the fact that we and our little dog were made welcome.Friendly staff and also local customers, helpful too by pointing directions to toilets.
16/08/2017: Taking my aunt back to Southport we stopped here for lunch. Food and service excellent. Loads to choose from and lovely people. Would recommend you book as it was very busy and a weekday to boot. Family place with loads of parking. Would definitely go back.

The Selkirk Arms Bar, Bistro and Restaurant

Dee, Dumfries & Galloway, 30-45£
12/08/2017: We were tempted by the menu for lobster July and booked a table. But as the weather had been poor no lobster had been caught so we were a little disappointed. However we both chose the lamb and it was so delicious. The waitress was very attentive and brought us a taste of the claret to try before choosing. A super meal in a traditional setting. Would definitely visit again just to try the lobster.
12/08/2017: Staying close by, took a chance and phoned for same night reservation. We were told there were some tables still available in the bar area, but restaurant not open for another hour and fully booked. Arrived 5 mins later at the bar and all tables suddenly taken. The waitress apologised and without skipping a beat, quickly arranged for us to take a table in the restaurant( not yet open). Perfect. Food excellent. Staff well trained and friendly. We got lucky. Thank you.

Harbour Inn

Mid Galloway, Dumfries & Galloway
21/08/2017: We arrived at this pub by chance and it was like finding a hidden treasure. The views from the windows are breathtaking. The manager opened up the kitchen for food even though they had stopped serving and all the food we was served was fabulous. We were welcomed by the staff and local people like we had known them for years and their knowledge of places to go and information about the area was invaluable. We visited with our three children aged 12, 10 and 1 and they were more than welcomed. I'd like to thank the manager, his staff and his customers for making our visit to the Harbour Inn a pleasant experience.
21/08/2017: Having visited last year we decided that we would stay over for the night on 7th August whilst on the way back home from visiting family in Northern Ireland. On arrival we received a really nice welcome from the landlords son and were shown to the room. We had the 'Eggerness', which I can only describe as flawless, and had a great view over the harbour and beyond. It is a large room with a magnificent big bed and a really big bathroom. Everything was spotless, well decorated and maintained. We ate in the dining room, I had the steak pie and my wife chose the mussels, both we excellent. We had a really good nights sleep and breakfast the next morning was also very nice and well cooked. Harry and Carol, the owners, were absolute stars, as were their son and daughter, who work in the Inn, and we had a great time. The only thing I can fault was that we were only able to stay the one night due to my work commitments. We will go back without hesitation and stay a bit longer next time. Thanks to everyone who made our stay one to remember.

Henrys Bay House Restaurant

Wigtown West, Dumfries & Galloway
18/08/2017: Best meal out for a long time. Service slick and staff excellent. Seven of us enjoyed every part of the evening. Thanks alot. Can't fault you.
17/08/2017: Seven of us went for Sunday Lunch and had a great meal. The service and food was great with lots of "Scottish" options. My favourite was the haggis pakora! The food was particularly well presented and everyone cleared their plates for all three courses. Only suggestion for improvement would be to roast the potatoes, rather than put them in the deep fat fryer - they were crispy certainly but didnt have any flavour left.

Casa Mia

Mid and Upper Nithsdale, Dumfries & Galloway
18/08/2017: Simply an excellent place to eat, drink and be merry. The quality of the food and its presentation is first class. The staff are attentive, mannerly and very pleasant - also first class. The facilities are spotless, modern and...well, first class. This time we had lunch and for starters had North Atlantic fish and shellfish soup - beautifully rich and deep in flavour and stuffed with fish and shellfish. Partner had the mozzarella, tomato, rocket and capers and found it to be perfectly flavoured and balanced. For the main course we had linguini with spinach, spring onions, garlic, cherry tomatoes, pine nuts etc. It was simply the best cooked pasta dish I have had in a long time. This dish was bursting with flavour and the pasta was cooked to perfection. I loved it! My partner had the haddock on a bed of mashed sweet potato and dressed with chilli oil. Every mouthful was a delight to eat. The quality of the food shines through in every plateful - excellent produce cooked with a great deal of care and attention and then presented with a flourish.
16/08/2017: Me and my friend turned up at the casa Mia tonight unbooked. The restaurant was fully booked due to a wine tasting night but Monica asked us to wait in the bar for 10 Minutes and then she got us a table, the food was as always outstanding and I couldn't fault a thing.Monica is absolutely fabulous and and a credit to Casa Mia, made us feel very welcome. By far the best restaurant In dumfries

Dee, Dumfries & Galloway, <20£
20/08/2017: I visited this establishment on my own last Sunday evening. It was bustling and clearly popular with local people. You can choose to wait for a takeaway or sit in the adjacent dining area where there are a dozen or so tables. The menu contained a good range of fish choices. I sat in the dining area and ordered cod, chips, mushy peas, bread and butter and a pot of tea. Unfortunately, they were out of cod so I opted for a small haddock instead.People came in for takeaways, paid for them and left. A family occupied a table behind me, placed their order and had it served to them but I kept waiting and waiting. It was a full thirty five minutes before my meal appeared. There was no apology or explanation. I just think their "system" went slightly awry. It needs some reflection. The meal itself was nice. It cost me just over £11 but there is no way I should have had to wait so long for it to arrive.
20/08/2017: A takeaway from Polarbites is a firm part of our holiday routine in Kirkcudbrightshire. The food is always great and the additional desserts are a wonderful treat (particularly the banoffee pie!)

The Rialto

East Berwickshire, Scottish Borders
20/08/2017: Can't really add much to the other reviews other than that we stopped off on route back from St Andrews and had a great lunch here - we will be back...
13/08/2017: We love this place, we haven't been for quite a while as we are not local but we scheduled in a refreshment break there on our drive home from Orkney. I am glad we did as we enjoyed the best scones in the UK and I don't say things like that lightly, in fact they were so good we bought a second round. The Darjeeling tea and speciality coffee were also first class.I wish this was our local coffee shop but as it's not we will just have to detour there again on our next holiday.

Wheatsheaf Inn

Mid Berwickshire, Scottish Borders, 30-45£
12/08/2017: Abfab Christmas spent here. Thoroughly recommended. They also treated our dog like a king. Don't hesitate to book a stay here. You won't regret it.
01/08/2017: It must be two or three years since my wife and I last visited the Wheatsheaf. However, comfortably seated in the bar, complete with menus and our favourite G & T's, we felt immediately at home. That feeling continued in the restaurant, where we were seated looking out of the windows over the pleasant village green. For our starters, my wife chose the summer asparagus topped with a poached egg while I sampled the gin cured salmon from the specials board. For our mains, we focussed on the grill menu and both chose fillet steaks (one 5oz, medium rare and one 8oz medium). Both came cooked exactly to our tastes and with a suitable choice of vegetables (and pepper sauce in my case).Altogether, an excellent meal, with friendly and efficient service. My only niggle was that I considered the Mendozan Malbec (one of our favourite wines) to be enjoyable but rather expensive at £32.95 a bottle.

Claudios Restaurant

Annandale North, Dumfries & Galloway
20/08/2017: Lovely anniversary dinner. Davide and staff as friendly as ever. Excellent service and food absolutely delicious. We always look forward to dining at Claudios!
19/08/2017: We pre-arranged a menu with the restaurant and were given a room to ourselves. The restaurant was full but they still found time to give a bit of individual attention one of our guests who is celiac. He was the first to say "I'll be back!" followed in short order by the rest of us. The food was all beautifully cooked and served in a particularly friendly manner despite the fact that they were very busy. There whole approach from initial discussion to meal itself was excellent. I cannot praise them enough for making it a special celebration.

The Cobbles - Freehouse & Dining

Kelso and District, Scottish Borders, >100£
20/08/2017: We have gone to the Cobbles on quite a few occasions over the years, but today's experience was a very odd one to say the least. The food quality was very good, but the service was left a bit lacking. We both ordered mushroom soup for starters, and whilst my partners was piping hot my own order was less than warm. When I asked for it to be replaced it took over 5 minutes to return, by which time my partner was half way through her course. She ordered a latte which was fine, but was served with a normal size coffee spoon not anywhere near long enough for such a long latte glass!!! And the waitress didn't really give all her attention to our sweet order getting it terribly mixed up!!! Overall-food very good. Service and dining, less so!!! More attention to detail required by staff, shall we say.We have both worked in catering over the years and felt exactly the same way by our "experience"!!!
20/08/2017: As good as it was a couple of years ago when we last stayed in Kelso, the service was first class and I can thoroughly recommend the Border Charcuterie Platter, one of the best cold meat platters I've had.

Cavens Arms

Nith, Dumfries & Galloway
20/08/2017: On entering noticed 'no children' on the door so best mention this for any families thinking about visiting. Does make for a lovely atmosphere within the pub. There were no starters I liked. I don't like soup and the rest were fishy or deep fried. Hubby picked the soup though and found it very tasty. He then had the roast beef special, lovely meat with lots of veg, roast potatoes and home made Yorkshire. I had the steak pie, loads of meat but pastry was that awful flaky pastry that's like eating sawdust! We couldn't squeeze in a dessert but lots of choice on the menu. Good selection of drinks in the bar - and won awards due to this.Very clean restaurant but not sure about waitresses getting on the floor to brush up then serve food. Would return if back in Dumfries.
17/08/2017: Wasn't that impressed with food chicken burger roll was very dry they are bought in frozen chicken was nice but chips were not good none of us ate them staff were nice and friendly

Coltman's Delicatessen & Kitchen

Tweeddale West, Scottish Borders
18/08/2017: My friend and I visited for dinner on Friday evening. To say we were pleasantly surprised is an understatement. The decor is very tasteful, the staff excellent but the food .....Superb. Amazing amuse bouche, wonderful starters and finally excellent mains. Couldn't manage desserts but did have coffee. Would come back in a shot. Well done
05/08/2017: Timed our visit right between the afternoon and evening rush, and had the bar to ourselves. Prices may have been higher than average, but it was worth it. Staff were excellent as well.

The Heathers Restaurant

East Berwickshire, Scottish Borders
18/08/2017: Used this restaurant for years visiting folks in Eyemouth and never once let down by the pleasant and quick service and the food is excellent, obviously particularly all varieties of fish. George does his own "scampi" and it is fab. Was there today and my husband had the monkfish tails which he thought were superb. To be able to enjoy such a lovely meal with the views you get along the Berwickshire coast in our mind would take some beating. Our recommendation is if you're visiting Eyemouth that's where you should eat
17/08/2017: Can't speak about the golf course, though I did have a walk round and that 6th hole is terrifying! But the catering is quite superb. It was our Golden Wedding weekend and we had an extended family gathering of 20 plus a couple of babies. George and his staff could not have been more helpful - from the planning stage right through to the final coffees. It was not a set menu - everyone could choose what they wanted from the extensive table d'hote menu - and yet dishes arrived on time, delivered by a very pleasant team of young waiters/waitresses. And the food was excellent, as were the wines and (chilled) beers.I couldn't believe the bill at the end. You could have charged a lot more George! Highly recommended
