Little Rock

Ardrossan and Arran, North Ayrshire
14/03/2017: Little Rock cafe is a popular central meeting place in Brodick. While not a full-scale restaurant for evening dining, it is the best place for coffee, lunches and afternoon tea. The food is great, as is the coffee, and the atmosphere and staff superb. Go there!
13/03/2017: Visited here for breakfast on Sunday morning before out ferry home, such a welcoming warm cafe with friendly and helpful staff, the breakfast was fantastic and the selection of coffee and tea was really good too, definitely recommend it for a visit

The Blair

Annick, East Ayrshire
19/03/2017: Went for dinner on Friday evening, never booked but were able to be seated in a nice corner. The staff were welcoming and friendly. The food was lovely, king prawn tempura to start then pan fried see bass which was cooked to perfection. The portion size was large therefore could not have dessert. I would definitely recommend and will return .
17/03/2017: The food was excellent and plentiful, perhaps too much for senior customers. The ambience was great, the staff very attentive and the quality excellent.

Auld Raes

East Kilbride Central North, South Lanarkshire
19/03/2017: After a great recommendation from people we had met at East Kilbride village theatre in the past we decided to book a table before going to the theatre once again. Well the food in this place is excellent. From the outside it looks ordinary but inside is a cosy romantic dining nirvana. The food is delicious. I had the scallops to start & my wife had the Cullen skink. Both delicious. We both decided on Ox cheeks for main, delicious again. Like the way the menu is traditionally scottish with refining twists. Staff were very friendly and welcoming especially the owner chefs mum who works front of house. Like the traditional Scottish menu & the way they have scottish beers on the drinks menu. Definitely be back to have a relaxing meal not just before the theatre.
19/03/2017: Had another outstanding meal last night from the best restaurant ever. I am lucky that I stay in EK and within walking distance. The quality of the food and service for the price is quite simply astonishing. I have booked a table for mothers day and at £20.95, I dont know they do it when other restaurants are charging up to £45 for lesser quality food. Cant wait.

Varani's Forum Cafe, Kilmarnock

Kilmarnock West and Crosshouse, East Ayrshire
13/03/2017: Great selection of ice cream flavours, including sugar free options. Helpful, friendly, knowledgeable staff.
13/03/2017: Some of the best ice creams you can taste. Real quality from a local family firm. For me the original is the best but there are flavours to suit every palate

Vanilla Joes

Irvine West, North Ayrshire
09/03/2017: Really busy place queues to get in. Great choice of luscious tasting ice cream, great choice of flavours.Well worth a visit, best ice cream I have tasted
09/03/2017: Not a restaurant as such however you can get coffee, tea, etc with your ice creams. They have a wide range of flavours and are generous with the scoops. Very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful staff. A bright and modern decor - not that many seats. A busy place. They have just opened a traditional cafe/restaurant nearby if you are looking for a meal.

Wildings Hotel and Restaurant

Maybole, North Carrick and Coylton, South Ayrshire, 20-30£
19/03/2017: First visit on a very wet and miserable Friday night. Shame couldn't see the view and look forward to returning just for that. I loved the decor, there was a warmth and felt very welcomed. The food and service was excellent. I had fish and was cooked to perfection. Would definitely recommend.
13/03/2017: High price didn't reflect surroundings. Should have stayed and dined in Tump Turnberry.Recommend but disappointed.

The Chestnuts Hotel Restaurant

Ayr West, South Ayrshire
18/03/2017: Ambience and cleanliness of the premises appeared VG . Staff very welcoming and efficient . Meals brought along timeously . Real ale is a real treat I had Cullen Skink which was very tasty followed by lamb on a giant Yorkshire pudding with mash under . The lamb was terrible , tough chewy and gristly . I suspect it was from a joint cooked several days ago , not carved properly and possibly reheated or microwaved and overcooked as it was quite burnt looking. At £13 I should have returned it but in company one doesn't like to make a fuss . Quantities were good. To be fair the other three people at the table found their food very good. . This is the second average / poor meal in the last year . Until I hear encouraging reports we won't be back .Owner you need to pay attention to what the kitchen staff are up to because they appear to be serving up unwanted previously cooked meats. .
15/03/2017: In all the time I have been frequenting this establishment the food, the staff, the decore in fact the whole package, has been excellent. One of my favourite places.

Zucca Ristorante Pizzeria

East Kilbride Central North, South Lanarkshire
14/03/2017: My partner and I along with eight other friends spent the night celebrating my partners 50th on Friday 10/03. we have been a few times for evening dinner and lunch.Tonight the food was excellent, I had the "Mussels" in a arrabiata sauce for my starter, this was my first time ordering shellfish, the dish was wonderfully,, slightly spicy and absolutely delicious as a main course I had the chicken in a white sauce which was tasty and accompanied along with fluffy white rice. The young lady who was responsible for looking after us during the evening was perfect in being attentive to our requests for drinks and other requests.Well done Zuccas (Village EK) a great night partly due to your Food, Staff and fine ambience. Brilliant.
13/03/2017: Had a 2 course meal with my wife and two friends from the Early evening menu. Very busy place staff were attentive and pleasant ,the meal was okay. Drinks are expensive at just under £5 for a pint of peroni lager and £4.50 for a 175ml glass of wine.

Cafe Thyme

Ardrossan and Arran, North Ayrshire, 20-30£
19/03/2017: I have reviewed Cafe Thyme before but it is worth doing so again. This is an excellent cafe/restaurant in the middle of nowhere but actually quite easy to find on the west coast of the island. Access is by a well tarmacked single track road with plenty of passing places. It's worth the little effort to get there. Rough and ready it is not.We just had a soup but mine was the Cullen Skink and this is highly recommended. Unlike the "traditional" recipe it is not made with cream and is packed with smoked fish. It is delicious and filling and comes with a large portion of pitta bread.Cafe Thyme has a great range of dishes for lunch. There is a play area for children outside and lovely views to the Kilbrannan Sound.I would recommend seeking it out if you are on Arran's west coast.
16/03/2017: We were looking for a quick snack before walking to the standing stones at Machrie on Arran. The cafe at the golf club was shut for the winter so we drove on a short distance and saw a sign to the Old Byre Visitor Centre so decided to try it. After a long drive up a single track road we finally arrived and we found an oasis in the middle of nowhere! The staff were lovely, the handmade pizzas were delicious and freshly made to order. The home baking was also delicious. Excellent coffee and countless choice of speciality teas, topped off by free wifi (not easy to find on Arran!) all added up to a perfect destination. We visited as a couple but the children's play area looked so good we will be bringing our granddaughter back next time we visit. There is also a wonderful shop that sells all manner of gifts, handbags and clothing. In fact we enjoyed lunch so much we returned after our walk to the standing stones for another cup of tea and cake!

Stage Door Cafe at the Gaiety

Ayr West, South Ayrshire, 20-30£
18/03/2017: We were passing through Ayr and asked a couple where we should have lunch - excellent recommendation. Wish we had the place where we live. Value for money was incredible. Variety of menu was surprising. We have monkfish and a prawn/smoked salmon dish both were excellent and well presented. All credit to the staff who were excellent friendly and efficient. It would be a major loss to Ayr if the theatre closed and this restaurant with it.
18/03/2017: Stopped off here for lunch and couldn't believe the size and quality of the sandwiches. Definitely recommend the prawn sandwich of the cajun chicken. Fresh sliced white bread with loads of filling. Staff were very attentive and pleasant

The BISTRO

Rutherglen Central and North, South Lanarkshire, <20£
17/03/2017: Went to the Bistro for my birthday with the family. We had an amazing night. We all got starters. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their starters especially the pasta Amatriciana. The mains, I got beef stroganoff & I thoroughly enjoyed it. We also got steaks, which were tasty & also the beef short rib was amazing. For such a small restaurant, the menu is huge & the food is amazing. All freshly cooked & great quality. Make sure you book a table. We as a family can't wait for our next visit. It really is a hidden gem.
12/03/2017: Food was outstanding very good choice of dishes we did not have sweet after eating 2 courses but next time will leave room to have one.The service for small place was very good friendly staff who spent time and did not do the usual take orders and run away. Will definitely be back

Silver Spoons Tearoom

Troon, South Ayrshire
15/03/2017: This tea room is an absolute joy!!! We were all transported back to when we visited our grand parents for tea. The China tea service layer out on the pristine white table cover. The selection of cakes making your mouth water. The music playing softly in the back ground allowing to to have a conversation without being intrusive. It was heaven. The staff were dressed smartly in black with a white pinny apron. They were very professional and very pleasant. We had soup and sandwiches and with the extra pot of tea we had some delicious cake. Everyone a winner. I absolutely love this place. If in Troon and you long for those days back at granny's visit Silver Spoons Tearoon. YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED! !!!!!!!
13/03/2017: If you're looking for a great cup of tea combined with excellent service with a touch of nostalgia served on the side then this is the place to come .

Souter's Inn Restaurant

Maybole, North Carrick and Coylton, South Ayrshire
16/03/2017: We often eat at Souter's as a couple or with friends and family. Food usually of a high standard but with the occasional hiccough. Only consistent complaint is the lack of choice and imagination in catering for vegetarians in a party, which is a shame. Vegetarians are not prepared to be fobbed off these days with what is usually a choice between a pasta or risotto dish. For some reason many restaurants seem unable to grasp that for many diners it is not essential for meals to contain meat for them to have a wonderful dining experience!
12/03/2017: Very disappointed- heard great things about this place but service was poor and meal was bland. Restaurant was packed & staff clearly struggled as we waited over an hour between courses. Won't be rushing back.
