Auld Raes

East Kilbride Central North, South Lanarkshire
25/02/2017: We visited Auld Rae's for the second time, after our first visit about 9 months ago. Our food and wine were fine and tasty and there is a good choice for all courses. The Cullen Skink was unusual in that it was topped with a poached egg, which actually worked. I felt however that the soup could have been creamier. The chicken Balmoral was nicely presented with good selection of vegetables. The service varied. One waitress was very chatty and clearly enjoyed her job, connecting with customers. I had booked in advance and was asked if they could have the table back in 2 hours, which I was fine with. As our first waitress took our wine order, she asked if she could have the table back in 90 minutes, which took me aback a bit. All in all a pleasant meal.
20/02/2017: There are plenty of eateries in East Kilbride to choose from however we keep coming back to Auld Raes as it is one of our favourites. It is very popular probably due to the great quality scottish food on offer. Good service and super value for money. We love the Chicken Balmoral however on our recent visit I opted for the catch of the day - delicious. We will be back again soon.

Little Rock

Ardrossan and Arran, North Ayrshire
15/02/2017: Prompt and attentive service and good value range on the menu. A welcome change to the often slow and over-priced options at Arran restuarants.
15/02/2017: Having been let down by a hotel an hour before we were due to check in, we were as you can imagine, a tad stressed. Stuck on Arran with nowhere to stay on the first busy day of the season due to the school holidays, we dived into Little Rock for lunch and to plan our next move. Told the staff in there what had happened and when I was unable to get a good phone signal, they promptly brought their landline phone to us to use. They too were busy but sensing our stress they immediately found us a table and did not hurry or rush us to leave. We had lovely wraps and paninis and a drink and eventually found an alternative hotel but this would have been much harder without the help of this lovely cafe. The cakes looked fab too but we had to go unfortunately!! Next visit to Arran, first stop Little Rock. xxx

Minishant Inn Restaurant

Maybole, North Carrick and Coylton, South Ayrshire
19/02/2017: The food was very good, however the menu doesn't change very often. They were attentive and the service was excellent . My only criticism would be that it's maybe slightly expensive, but that wouldn't put me off returning. The steaks some of the party had were huge and worth the money.
13/02/2017: Visited The Minishant Inn with a table of 7 inc 3 kids with one in a wheel chair, the welcome and service were spot on and very friendly.Everyone enjoyed their food tremendously with the Trio of meats being a big hit. I myself had the fillet steak which was huge and cooked to perfection.A must visit place if your in the area .We as a family are now regular visitors !!

The Black Bull Tarbolton

Kyle, South Ayrshire
22/02/2017: I had booked a meal on impulse for my husband's birthday. We arrived at 6pm and it almost took us longer to decide what to eat (what a choice) than it took us to eat the first two courses. The service was excellent. Lovely hot rolls with butter and olive oil/balsamic dressing were brought to the table while we were waiting on our starters. In no time at all the starters arrived. My husband had duck and I had the bacon, cheese, potato terrine both of which were delicious. Plates cleared as soon as we were finished and in two minutes our main courses were served. Don't know how they managed it so quickly - and everything piping hot. We had Buckfast ham and the slow cooked shin of beef for our main courses. Also excellent. By this time only half an hour had passed and we had already had two courses. The service was so fast and the lady who served us was very attentive and pleasant. We weren't sure if we could manage dessert so they left us to have a breather for ten minutes...by then we couldn't refuse the temptation of a sticky toffee pudding and a pear mousse which just topped off an excellent dinner. One glass of house red and a soda water and lime added to the 3 course meal came to £55. We are very happy to say this was our first visit and it won't be our last. Thank you for a lovely night.
20/02/2017: Myself and my wife Liz visited the Black Bull for lunch. We visit many restaurants in South Ayrshire and this restaurant is truly fabulous value for money. The restaurant is tastefully decorated and the food is to die for. Very friendly atmosphere. I will return to this restaurant many times and that's for sure. Well done to all !!!!

Vanilla Joes

Irvine West, North Ayrshire
23/02/2017: Easily the best hidden secret in Ayrshire and shocked that I never knew about this place sooner.I was believed that Nardini's in Largs was the best place for a Ice Cream in Ayrshire, but how wrong I was.Great little cafe tucked away behind the train station, and seems to always be busy, but you can get a great ice cream at a fantastic price.Proper Italian style where ice cream is scooped out with a spatula, so you get a lot of ice cream on your cone. Will certainly be bringing the kids here in future.
19/02/2017: Ice cream was fine, but got rushed through, so no wafer or sprinkles on the kids tubs as the place was busy, which ok I understand it's very popular but customer service should come for first before bums on seats, well we ate ours in the car lol

The Old Pier Tearoom

Ardrossan and Arran, North Ayrshire
19/02/2017: We stumbled across this wee cafe by accident on our 3 day visit to the island. The food was faultless and very reasonable priced. We returned each day to have lunch there. The home bakes are out of this world and the warm cheese scone must be the best in Scotland if not the planet.... it was amazing. Well done to all the staff whom work there 10/10 for service and quality.
15/02/2017: We went here for lunch on a Sunday. There was a choice of 4 soups which was fantastic for us soup lovers and home made sausage roll for the boy child that likes meat! We all love cake and its unusual to have so many home made cakes to choose from - there was something for everyone; chocolate, apricot and almond was delicious. The portions are generous so make sure you're hungry when you get there. Enjoy.

21/02/2017: Visited this restaurant again while in the area. The food was as good as it was a few years ago. The quality and quantity were first class and I wouldn't hesitate in recommending it to others.

The Three Reasons

North Coast and Cumbraes, North Ayrshire
10/02/2017: Great food, great service, great price. Busy lunchtime but everything seems to run very smoothly, staff friendly, efficient and attentive. Really nice vibe. Will definitely be back.
03/02/2017: We visited this place last Sat when looking for somewhere to lunch. I had searched on Trip Advisors for somewhere to lunch in North Ayrshire. The Three reasons came up 4th. We had been to the other 3 so we opted for the Three Reasons. First and foremost it is clearly a bar who also does food. We arrived and there was a football game on. Half the folk in the bar where there for the football. You can eat in the rear of the bar which is a bit quieter. The food is no frills, plain but very good. The service was good as well. You, for some reason have to order your drinks separate from your food. The waitress will take your food order but then tell you to order your drink at the bar? Anyway, if you are looking for a nice restaurant for lunch this is probably not the place. If you are looking for a lively lunch, everyone watching the telly with great and simple food try the Three Reasons.

Zucca Ristorante Pizzeria

East Kilbride Central North, South Lanarkshire
21/02/2017: I visited Zucca's in the East Kilbride Town Centre to celebrate my husbands birthday. The staff were really good especially one of the female waitresses who recommended lots of dishes from personal experience. My husband had the special which was fantastic and I had the fish & chips my daughter had the half pizza half salad Enzo and her boyfriend had the steak and caramelised onion wrap. We would all recommend each dish they were all delicious and the portion sizes are excellent. I would highly recommend a visit. We will definitely be back for more great food and service.
18/02/2017: I visited this restaurant during the week for the first time. The food was excellent and there was a wide variety of options. The decor was good and the staff very friendly. There is a car park two minutes walk away. I will visit again.

The Chestnuts Hotel Restaurant

Ayr West, South Ayrshire
19/02/2017: Visited this restaurant with my husband as he'd read the great reviews on this site. It's in a nice area, easily walkable to or from the town centre and the dining room was comfortable. The service was excellent as we were shown to our table immediately on arrival and drinks were always kept topped up. My only issue with this is that my food was a little bland - the smoked haddock gratin. This is my main of choice recently and I can say that I have gotten much better in other restaurants in Ayr. I was also highly bemused to receive and unexpected portion of chips in what looked like a sauce bowl? Very odd - especially when I looked around the room and found I was the only one with a side dish presented as such. The dessert was delicious - Oreo cheesecake and overall it was well priced.
16/02/2017: My elderly parents live in Ayr and The Chestnuts is the place of choice when it comes to eating out during family get togethers. There's a huge choice on the menu and the food is top quality, from fab starters through to some amazing desserts. The ambience is good too and the prices affordable. You simply can't go wrong at The Chestnuts. Thoroughly recommended.

Souter's Inn Restaurant

24/02/2017: Lucky to see and find this place. Recent trip down to Turnberry and we were looking for some lunch. Stopped off at the Souter Inn - what a lucky break !! Great food and great service. Lovely ambiance in the restaurant. The quality of the food we received was first class.
18/02/2017: Great place to drop in on the way past for fantastic breakfast. Lots of choice from traditional mixed grill (large or small), pancakes, bacon rolls and much more. My children love this place for breakfast and have a very hard time choosing what to have. Food is always served quickly and it is beautifully cooked and perfectly hot.Surrounding are cosy and friendly and the staff serve tables quickly and with happy smiles. The deluxe hot chocolate is fab!!Great home made ice- cream (many amazing flavours) also available in the shop if you have room for it on the way out.

Pietruccio

Hamilton North and East, South Lanarkshire
12/02/2017: While on a weekend visiting family in the area, we heard of this place, and on a freezing winter Saturday night called in, not very hopeful of getting a table. As it happened a table for two was available as there was a "no show" (thank you whoever you are!)From the warm welcome with a Bellini to the final complimentary drink offered the whole experience was delightful, hence my title. The menu is small, just one A4 page, but I could literally have eaten anyone of the dishes on offer. Everything is fresh and freshly cooked - we had scallops, sea bass and the dessert trio - and all delicious. There is a gourmet menu on offer but we were a little late to order. Many couples seemed to be having this and I would love to make a reservation and have it next time. This is a small restaurant, extremely cosy and welcoming. The staff are lovely and I honestly can't find fault. (This is the same reviewer who labelled the area "gastronomic wasteland!)
11/02/2017: Both the food and the service were great. Would have no hesitation in recommending to anyone who enjoys good Italian food.
