Pysgoty

Aberystwyth Rheidol, Ceredigion, <20£
21/08/2017: Cant be more than 14 seats inside this tiny restaurant, but you are in for a treat. We had three courses all sublime. I recommend it for a special occasion as it is a bit expensive but worth it in my opinion. Staff lovely too. Had a lovely evening. I even enjoyed that the toilets are the public convenience down the road. Don't let that put you off! it has a stunning view of the ocean.

Latte-da Tearoom

Crickhowell,Llangattock, Powys, <20£
22/08/2017: Staff were so accommodating, bringing colouring for the kids and changing things to suit their tastes. Food was good and not too expensive.
16/08/2017: Really good lunch food in this nice cafe that is run by attentive staff ... Food can not be faulted in quality and value.. Excellent in every way. However the cafe is let down by the coffee that is tasteless & lacking any characteristics of a good coffee... maybe old coffee? or just a mediocre blend? or perhaps just bad luck on our part. Anyway this should not detract from visiting and trying the lunch menu...

Agnelli's espresso bar and deli

Aberystwyth Canol/Central, Ceredigion
10/08/2017: My wife and I visited there this evening. It looks quite unpretentious from outside and is fairly small inside but there is a lovely atmosphere and friendly unfussy service. The food was excellent and the wine very competitively priced. We really enjoyed the night and have booked to go back tomorrow
10/08/2017: We were staying in Aberystwyth for a couple of days and our host recommended this restaurant. As soon as I walked through the door I could tell from the smell that it was authentic. It's not big so we had to book a table for the following evening. The menu is short (a good thing in my opinion) with a choice of antipasto, pasta, risotto and mains. We had pasta: Frutti di mare and sausage with nduja, then we shared a main course. That was plenty of food and it was all excellent, clearly using quality ingredients. Prices were very reasonable too. We just had to go back for coffee the following morning to have coffee with their homemade pastries - including Sicilian canoli.

The Old Barn Tea Room

Talybont-on-Usk, Powys
21/08/2017: Massive slices of fantastic cakes in a quaint barn. Worth planning a walk or day out finishing with a huge cake as a reward. Even our chocolate labrador was given an afternoon tea - he was very happy!
17/08/2017: I'm here visiting my husband family and they took us for afternoon tea, it's so different and the atmosphere was great very friendly and welcoming, would recommend it to anyone who comes to wales

Gwesty Cymru

Aberystwyth Canol/Central, Ceredigion
13/08/2017: The Gwesty Cymru is our favourite hotel in Wales: we just love it. Its restaurant is just as good, and you don't need to be a resident to enjoy it. In fact, it doesn't feel like a hotel restaurant at all. It's intimate without being claustrophobic in any way, offers a lovely sea view (despite being semi-subterranean) and manages to encapsulate modern Wales, not just with its juxtaposition of traditional slate with contemporary, tasteful design, but also with the approach of its owners and their quite excellent staff. Without exception, they are friendly, ultra-competent and inclusive: they're all Welsh speakers, but can switch between languages with the speed and agility of gymnasts, and they'll give you an equally warm and open welcome, whoever you are. Then there's the food, which is simply marvellous: Welsh produce of the highest quality, beautifully presented and utterly consistent. Aberystwyth is a lovely place anyway, and has so much to offer, but we'd go back there time after time just for the Gwesty Cymru: no sooner have we left than we're looking forward to our next visit.
13/08/2017: I visited with my husband for lunch. We was going to book for an evening but when we went for a drink we asked to see both menus. We decided we fancied the lunch menu. We booked for the Wednesday lunch and boy it was fantastic. The food was really good and the staff were all very nice. It's a small pace on the sea front we nearly missed it. We found it in the Aberystwyth guide book. I had salmon pate to start and my hubby had the prawns we both followed with the curry then shared the crumble. All the food was good we will be returning in April and trying the sharing plates as they looked very good. Can't wait.

Casablanca

Aberystwyth Canol/Central, Ceredigion
21/08/2017: I used to frequent Casablanca before I moved away from Aberystwyth but I hadn't been for a long time. We decided to go for my father's 70th Birthday and we weren't disappointed; the food is still delicious, it's a lovely cosy family atmosphere, and the service is excellent; the owner, Abdelouahab is lovely as ever and has passed his attitude to hospitality to his staff who were all very friendly. As many other reviews will mention, the Lamb tagine is excellent and must be tried butnyou won't be disappointed by any dish on the menu.Alcohol isn't served so you'll have to BYOB if you're a drinker, otherwise soft drinks are available.Definitely one of the town's must visit restaurants.
21/08/2017: For our last night in Aberystwyth my partner and I were planning on dining out, stupidly I agreed to let him 'book' a restaurant as I'd organised the holiday. Surprise surprise he forgot to reserve a table anywhere! Casablanca happily set up a table for us an hour before we arrived, even though they were packed, and the waiting staff (and chef!) welcomed us with open arms. The lamb tangine and mussel dishes were to die for and the fact that we could bring our own alcohol made it all the more affordable. A beautifully decorated place with friendly staff - would definitely travel down to Wales just to eat here again !

Medina

Aberystwyth Canol/Central, Ceredigion, 20-30£
21/08/2017: Loved the space in this restaurant, the food was terrific, I enjoyed the beetroot starter and the filo pastry main. Its Mediterranean food, all fresh ingredients, and the wine was good too. I also thought it was good value for money. We have a relaxed evening meal and enjoyed the atmosphere. It was nice to be able to purchased some of the ingredients as we left, as they have a small deli on the front.Book up or you might be disappointed, we were really lucky as we hadn't, but bigger groups were being turned away.
20/08/2017: another great Aber restaurant ,good selection of Mediterranean food lovely spacious seating you can also buy food here another is a small bookshop attached what more could you want. very good service reasonably priced wine list and good value exceptional food great place to eat

The Checkers

Montgomery, Powys
12/08/2017: Food and service was average at most. We had the vegetarian option and some courses were too salty. Service was sporadic, moments of interest and excellence others of indifference. Wine pairing did not match the courses. Overall did not feel like a Michelin restaurant and was overpriced given the food and service.
10/08/2017: We stayed here for one night and had the 6 course tasting menu and breakfast next morning. The food was of a really good standard and service was excellent. Have to say though, the 6 course tasting menu is excellent but in reality it's a 4 course meal; starter, fish, main and dessert. The palate cleanser which was very zingy and icy was not a course and it's odd to include the cheese. This a minor point as the whole experience was tasty and well cooked. Breakfast was very nice with a good range of options.Room was lovely but the outside light and lack of blackout blind meant the light reflected onto the mirrored wardrobe and it was light enough to read a book! The light eventually went off but a blackout blind would make the room 100%.So overall a very enjoyable stay and the walk to Montgomery castle ruin was steep but worth it for the views and atmosphere at the top of the hill.

Fforest Pizza Tipi

Aberteifi/Cardigan-Teifi, Ceredigion, <20£
20/08/2017: Went on a friend's recommendation - very pleased we did. They do very nice pizzas. In a tent. Well, a tipi of sorts. They have a very good bar. Do you really need to know more?Ok. We visited on a relatively cold, phenomenally wet and pretty windy August evening - two adults and two little children (2 & 4). We ordered four pizzas, knowing it would be too much for our girls but we were both hungry so would happily finish off the extras and we'd avoid any risk of squabbling. We had a 'Summertime' - chorizo, onions, olives & peppers (lovely); the Moroccan lamb special - lamb in a spiced sauce, tzatziki & sliced courgette ribbons [don't remember if there was anything else on it] which was fantastic; with two ham & cheese pizzas for the girls - very nice, even when they'd got cold as we were eating the girls' leftovers. The pizzas were gloriously thin and with just the right amount of crispiness, made in the kitchen hut next to the teepee. We also had a couple of delicious garlic foccacia (we were very hungry).Drinks were from the bar in the stone building adjoining the teepee - a great selection of local bottled beers (the Bluestone Porter was very good) and some good Welsh spirits too. They also did a nice warming hot chocolate for us - two normal sized ones for the grown ups plus two in espresso cups for the girls. The pizzas were about £8 each, with the special at around £10. Garlic bread was £3.50 or so. Drinks were reasonably priced. We can easily see why our friends recommended it - we'll definitely return whenever we're back in the area. My only nit-picking would be that seemingly they didn't have Welsh signage - despite most of the staff being Welsh-speakers (as you might expect in such a Welsh-speaking part of the còuntry).
20/08/2017: Called in on the off chance on a Sunday afternoon. Absolutely fabulous. Not a great selection but there's no need. 3 pizzas between 4 of us was more than enough.

Little Italy

Aberystwyth Canol/Central, Ceredigion, 20-30£
20/08/2017: We visited here during a weekend away, and so very glad we found it. Lovely atmosphere, with great fresh food, which was extremely tasty. The staff wrelovely too. Highly recommend
16/08/2017: We came here last August as being rated one of the top places to eat in Aberystwyth and as we were so impressed we decided to return this year. Another faultless meal and amazing service with good value for the authenticity and quality of the food. We ordered the Fettuccine Gamberi and as a vegetarian the Fettuccine ai Brocoli. Gorgeous flavours and plentiful portions! For dessert the chocolate brownie was delicious and the fresh profiteroles were to die for, the best I've ever had! Gorgeous ice cream too. Perfect ambiance with beautiful candles and decor. Would definitely recommend if you want a traditional, tasty and reliable Italian meal or a meal out in Aberystwyth in general. Will definitely be returning in the future!

The Three Horseshoes Inn

Talybont-on-Usk, Powys, <20£
22/08/2017: It was a Saturday night and we got the feeling everyone arrived at once. But busy efficient staff meant we got our drinks and were seated without too much of a wait.Despite a packed restaurant the kitchen produced plates of food with the requested additions and deletions – our four meals were hot, generously portioned and delicious. No room for pud.We would definitely recommend and will return if in the area.
21/08/2017: We came to this restaurant years ago and revisited this week. Not only had the restaurant been renovated but the menu had changed out of all recognition. The menu was varied, clever and mouthwatering- as was the food. The staff were pleasant, professional, helpful and had a great sense of humour. We really enjoyed the whole experience and would like to thank Sharon and her team. Well done and thank you!We will be back. Trev and Helen Woodward

23/04/2017: Visited as part of a party of 4 and wasn't quite sure what to expect. When we arrived, Ruth warmly welcomed us and gave us a tour of the stunning venue. After pre dinner drinks we went up to the cosy dining room for dinner. The food was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. Ruth deserves a medal for being such a perfect host as well as creating such great food. Looking forward to our next visit.
