Pysgoty

Aberystwyth Rheidol, Ceredigion, <20£
13/03/2017: I have been here many times and it's always delicious I'm not even a huge fan of fish but love it at Pyscoty! It's very friendly and helpful, the service is excellent can't wait to go again
12/03/2017: My husband is a sailor and grew up by the sea so he has a brutal judgement on the freshness and skill in cooking sea dishes. He's also an ace cook! So I was so happy I could take him somewhere really really good where he didn't complain once! and actually paid compliments for once.BE SURE TO BOOK if you want a table as it's very small and deservedly popular. Also it was very warm inside so bear that in mind on what you wear.Pay and Display’ car park directly opposite. FREE after 6pm.

Medina

Aberystwyth Canol/Central, Ceredigion, 20-30£
19/03/2017: we were here for the evening, a beautiful conversion of an old property, including a bookshop room and a fruit n veg corridor, adjacent to the Event dining room where we were. Bottled Beers and Softs from the eclectic menu worked well for us. Excellent Hummus n Flatbread for the hungry.
18/03/2017: Superb - excellent choice of menu. Service excellent and food gorgeous. Great selection of beers, salads and desserts. Rhubarb sorbet excellent. Inexpensive.

Little Italy

Aberystwyth Canol/Central, Ceredigion, 20-30£
15/03/2017: Visited on Sunday at sat at the window table, which usually has to be booked 2 weeks in advance as it is very sought after! The ravioli starter was exceptional with the best homemade cream sauce I've ever tasted. The bruschetta was also delicious and you can choose for three topping choices. My chicken main was accompanied by a cream sauce, sweet potato fries and salad but you can have it with a different sauce, veg, chunky chips or Tuscan potatoes instead. The portions are very large and well worth the price. The chicken breast was succulent and tasty. The pizza is as good as the ones I've had in Italy and are all homemade. The staff were very friendly and attentive but not overbearing, service was fast too. Overall, pricing is very reasonable and the menu has a very wide selection. it is definitely somewhere to visit and I promise you won't be disappointed!
13/03/2017: Cosy venue nicely decorated but the food was rather bland. I eat in a lot of Italian restaurants and this one has been the biggest disappointment so far. Staff really nice and friendly and parking fine.

Agnelli's espresso bar and deli

Aberystwyth Canol/Central, Ceredigion
13/03/2017: There are lots of places that serve a British version of Italian cooking - chains, like ASK, and also independently owned restaurants - but Agnelli's has Italian food that tastes like Italian cooking. Absolute joy. And the prices are so reasonable that it would be quite reasonable to eat there at lunchtime and in the evening.
25/02/2017: After a busy couple of hours shopping in Aber, arrived at Agnelli's reaĺly looking forward to food & drink....2.30pm we thought was a safe time to avoid the lunchtime rush. Wrong, still v busy, however with 2 in-laws & 2 small kids in tow, we didnt expect to be completely ignored for 30 minutes (Hi,we're really busy at mo, we'll get to you as soon as we can - would have worked a treat)! After 20mins wait a couple came in for coffee & were acknowledged & served straightaway, this didnt help our frame of mind!!!! Another 10mins later we were served, no apologises whatsoever for our wait!Fair play - coffee best of the week, brushetta superb, olive & bread dip ok, tiramisu outstanding! Owner & 2 staff more than friendly by the time we left, sadly didnt quite make up for such a poor start!

Just3Drops

Llanfair Caereinion, Powys, 30-45£
20/01/2017: Am lucky enough to have this on my doorstep. Went there today with a friend for lunch and we opted for Tapas. Could have been a mistake as the portions were quite large but being country folk, our appetites are healthy!! Certainly the best place to eat in the village but if there are a few of you, be prepared to wait as everything is cooked fresh.
16/01/2017: Had a wonderful night celebrating my 60th Birthday! Lovely venue, fabulous Tapas. Ruth was a great host & we will be going back very soon. Highly recommended.

The Three Horseshoes Inn

Talybont-on-Usk, Powys, <20£
19/03/2017: Stayed at nearby campsite and following advice we booked a table for Sunday lunch (they were turning people away so suggest you prob ok). Very friendly, attractive decor, very smart and tidy but you could eat in hiking boots. Sunday lunch was excellent, whitebait delicious, pigeon breast lovely and roast beef was awesome. Really good food in a super place. Will be back next time we are this way. Thank you so very much.
19/03/2017: With an 8week old going for a pub lunch on match day wouldn't normally be a good idea. But the three horseshoes is a friendly "gastro pub" with the appeal of a local that does amazing food, and had the rugby on too so a win win situation The team are always accommodating and really friendly. If you want a dessert to die for their Salted caramel panacotta is amazing!

28/01/2017: Cariad Cupcakes are amazing and home made! They are very large and quite expensive but after all they are amazing and hope made. There is a huge range of different cupcakes on offer too! :D

The Druid Inn

Aberystwyth Canol/Central, Ceredigion
14/03/2017: We found this amazing pub we needed a dog friendly place for food. We now go for tea when visiting daughter as the food is superb. The last weekend we visited for food on both Friday and Saturday. Always have a great evening. Would recommend to anyone.
05/03/2017: We booked into the Druid Inn after reading good reviews online. We were greeted by a lovely member of staff who offered us a selection of tables. We chose to sit in the bar which was cosy and warm with a log fire and authentic fireplace. We were offered to try some beers before orderings, the selection was great and it is no surprise the pub has won Camra awards. We ordered food shortly after, myself and my partner both ordering pies. I had the lamb pie which was brought promptly and was piping hot. The pie was delicious and was a good size. One of the nicest pies i have ever had. We also had brownie for dessert which was really nice and ice cream which was ridiculously good. The locals were really lovely, it seems like a cliquey place where everyone knows each other but we were treated like we belonged even though we had never been there before. I would recommend anyone go there for food or a quick drink, and look forward to returning in the future.

Tomatitos Tapas Bar

Hay, Powys
14/03/2017: Situated on a corner position in this wonderfully historic town is this busy, buzzing serving wonderful Tapas with excellent staff, We stopped for a light lunch & found the whole experience wonderful. I was afraid that it would be a sparsely occupied restaurant, trying to make its way in this historic town, How wrong can you be, It was almost full when we arrived & were unfortunately turning away customers as we supped really good Rioja & very tasty Tapas. Best you book so as not to miss this authentic gem
13/03/2017: Had an unexpected evening here last week. It was a wet and miserable Monday night and we found the recommendation for this place in a guide given to guests at the bnb we stayed at, Westbrook Court bnb (check out my review for that one as well). Not much to say other than the cheapest Rioja on the menu was lovely. Had the anchovies, they did the trick but tasted a lot like canned anchovies, the goats cheese was bloody gorgeous and had the chorizo in cider which was literally the best chorizo me and my foody boyfriend has ever had (he thinks himself of quite the connoisseur as he goes to Barcelona several times a year). What I liked about it was it was open until about 11 so it was nice to stay and drink wine after and has a really nice outdoor seating area which I can imagine is really good in the summer. Thank you for a lovely evening

Richard Booth s Bookshop Cafe

Hay, Powys
19/03/2017: My wife and I visited this lovely bookshop for breakfast on our trip to Hay-on-Wye and enjoyed good quality food (Welsh Rarebit / Pancakes with coffee). The only reason for not giving 5 stars is that the cost of the breakfast was pricey £20 for the above. I guess this is because of the location (in a popular tourist town). Staff were friendly and helpful and you won't be disappointed with the food quality. Worth a visit if you don't mind paying a little over the odds.
17/03/2017: Just called in for a coffee while wandering around Hay on Wye. Lovely spot and the coffee was very good

Latte-da Tearoom

Crickhowell,Llangattock, Powys, <20£
19/03/2017: Popped in for a coffee and cake. Pleasant staff, a calm ambience and good coffee and cake. Free WiFi, and judging by the almost full tables, is a popular venue.
19/03/2017: My wife and I visited the Latte-Da following our walk along the River Usk and the canal and were ready for a nice lunch. We were not disappointed. The staff and manager were very welcoming and the décor is lovely, a great place to relax. Lunch was of good quality (jacket potato, sandwiches and coffees) and we will definitely return when we re-visit Crickhowell. * The Latte-Da only accept cash just to let you know before you arrive (there is a cash machine 20 yards down the road!).A great tea-room - thank you.

Creme Pen Cei

New Quay, Ceredigion, <20£
01/02/2017: It's our tradition, every time we come to New Quay we have to get an ice cream and watch the dolphins on their pier. There are so many flavours you can't even pick! There is one with honeycomb in which is so delicious! The views of New Quay are perfect to look at whilst eating some yummy ice cream!
20/10/2016: This was, flat out, the best ice cream I've ever had in my life. Do not ask question, do not think about your diet, do not ask if you've had enough - go in there, try something new and simply experience ice cream at its best.

Ultracomida

Aberystwyth Canol/Central, Ceredigion
06/03/2017: I hope more places like this start popping up. It's a brilliant concept and well executed.Essentially it's a Spanish deli/specialist food shop and restaurant at the back combined. You're enticed by the sight of fresh breads, olive oil and almond biscuits on the windowsill, then in you go and find yourself amongst olives, the takeaway offer of the day (paella is the best) and bottles of wine.My mum and I had tapas which were tasty and the restaurant has an ambience that many other Aberystwyth restaurants don't provide.
04/03/2017: Our title tells it all. We told the staff we were clueless and their general suggestions were very helpful. The food that we ordered was delicious, extremely varied and although I grow chillies to sell in markets had never had a bowl of padron peppers. Yes got the hot one but resisted the temptation to drink something and sat quietly until the heat died down, which only took a few minutes. For anyone reading this who does not know how to deal with an unexpected hot chilli you need bread of any kind or yoghurt or milk. Alcohol or water just spreads it around your mouth and makes it worse. Failing this, if it isn't unbearable, just sit quietly, without talking until it fades, which unless you have a very hot chilli should be a few minutes only Even the very hot ones should be okay in10-15 minutes.I digress. there is a whole load of good wine by the glass on offer as well as soft stuff. We liked the idea of the communal tables and although we didn't have to share ours as it was a quiet weekday the couple on the next table at least waved bye as they were leaving. We have a Spanish tapas bar in our town which I have looked at, now we will be trying and reviewing it in the near future.I don't think you could get a better recommendation of a tapas bar than that. It is brilliant and when I am back here next year this will be one of my first visits.

Number Twenty One

Machynlleth, Powys, <20£
14/03/2017: Called in off the street for lunch. Had a super meal and plenty of it although I only wanted a snack. Staff very friendly and attentive. Will definitely be returning to sample the evening menu.
22/02/2017: No 21 deserves to be rated so highly in the area around Machynlleth. We attended their Greek themed evening last night, and were knocked out by the quality of food, as well as its presentation. Great service and ambience. Reluctant to write such a glowing review, as it will make it more difficult to book a table in the future !
