Pysgoty

Aberystwyth Rheidol, Ceredigion, <20£
21/12/2016: Wonderful find by the quayside. Only serve fish and as we don't eat shellfish were a little worried - not a problem as they happily changed the oyster sauce to a freshly made alternative. All prepared fresh and the menu depends on the catch of the day. Tiny restaurant - best to book - we were lucky as we arrived without a booking but got a seat at the counter. Very warm and slightly overpowering fish smell but not surprising considering it's size.Closed form Christmas to February - so you'll have to wait.We will be back here!
19/12/2016: Lovely little restaurant, brilliant service- very warm welcome. Brilliant food, and catered for my food intolerances.

The Checkers

Montgomery, Powys
07/01/2017: This was our third stay. The menu is now a tasting menu only which I guess may put some diners off. This would be a great shame because the food is stunning. Pair that with friendly and efficient service and a relaxed and convivial dining room and you have a virtually perfect dining experience. The rooms are as good as ever - everything you could want. And of course the town its self is charming and in a gorgeous part of the country.
24/12/2016: Very quickly - the food was unreproachable. flavours disciplined and very labour intensive. Cleverly used both seasoned front of house with locals to great effect all well trained attentive and confident. Very comfortable though busy. I loved the restaurant and the commitment to aiming for perfection. I would be looking for a second Michelin star!

Creme Pen Cei

New Quay, Ceredigion, <20£
20/10/2016: This was, flat out, the best ice cream I've ever had in my life. Do not ask question, do not think about your diet, do not ask if you've had enough - go in there, try something new and simply experience ice cream at its best.
03/10/2016: Did not eat in , but all looked good nice atmosphere and very busy considering the middle of September so just had ice cream.

Agnelli's espresso bar and deli

Aberystwyth Canol/Central, Ceredigion
04/01/2017: I went there for the first time just after Chistmas to have a break from cooking,as I'd heard the food was very good and the atmosphere relaxed. Exactly what I needed, and I was not disappointed. The venison ravioli was delicious, full of flavour and perfectly cooked. The affogato was equally yummy. Service was friendly and efficient despite the fact that the place was very busy.Altogether a very enjoyable experience with delicious quality homemade authentic food! This experience, I feel, will need to be repeated very soon...just to check of course!
22/11/2016: Recently had a meal in Agnellis. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was of a very high standard and reasonably priced. The Tuscan sausages were to die for. Will be returning for sure

The Old Barn Tea Room

Talybont-on-Usk, Powys
29/10/2016: We followed the signs all the way up the valley, and were not disappointed. Warning: they close for the winter from 1st November, and we made it on the 28th October. We enjoyed our "Specials", a half-sandwich, a scone with jam and cream, and a Welsh cake - all home made. Good value and just the ticket.
20/10/2016: The old barn tearoom will be closed for the season. From end of October to first week in February. Thank you to all our customers for the lovely reviews hope to see you in February xx

Little Italy

Aberystwyth Canol/Central, Ceredigion, 20-30£
10/01/2017: We decided to try this quaint Italian as the exterior seems to draw you in, with the colours of the Italian flag on the canopy. Italian is my favourite type of food and I was not disappointed. The food is so delicious it is authentic Italian and well presented as well as tasting so good! Staff were welcoming and couldn't do more. Definitely recommend it!
29/12/2016: This was our first visit to Little Italy since the old Manager left, and we were a little apprehensive as to how it would be. We used to really enjoy both the service and food here. It was August Bank Holiday Sunday and my Cousin had pre-booked the table of 5 for 7.30pm. The inside of the restaurant remains the same essentially, and we eat upstairs as we always like to, for the intimate feel.I was disappointed that the bar no longer has draught lager, and if it hadn't been for large bottles of Peroni, it could've been very expensive! The staff, however, couldn't do enough to help and they were all very friendly and made us feel more than welcome. The service we received was excellent. The food was ok, certainly not poor, but in my opinion not authentic Italian food. The pasta was quite dry and my Girlfriends Tiramisu was all cream and no taste. The menu is also much smaller than it used to be, there was no cheese and biscuits available, and an authentic Italian would offer this. The cheesecake was very nice. Don't get me wrong it was all edible, just didn't blow me away. The service we received was better than the food. We would come back here, as it's a lovely place and because of the quality of service received. It's a shame the old Manager can't return.

The Red Kite Cafe

Melindwr, Ceredigion, <20£
17/01/2017: We as a family of 6 went heree several times over the Summer. Sometimes we went for the breakfasts, these were very good with nice bacon but their sausages could have been better. However, they were good portion sizes and the staff went out of their way to make sure all our needs were met. This is especially important when you have 4 children as they each have their own little requirements, eg. some don't like mushrooms others want toast instead of fried bread, etc.The lunches are also very tasty and good value for money. Again, we have nevr had a dish that wasn't very good and that is saying a lot when there are 6 of you. The kids love the variety of food and we enjoyed the peace and quiet as everyone was able to get something to eat which they enjoyed. My husband and I very much enjoyed the American burgers, these were exceptionally tasty.I would definitely recommend this place to anyone whether a visitor passing through or a local like ourselves that enjoy good food :)
17/01/2017: Good homely food. Warm atmosphere. Child friendly. Earthy and genuine. Outside excellent child swings/ more challenging . But the star of the show is the kite feeding. Fantastic spectacle. PLEASE come to see it.Dowch i weld y barcud.

Medina

Aberystwyth Canol/Central, Ceredigion, 20-30£
19/01/2017: Recently moved from a small cosy place to a much larger premesis. The decor was fresh and modern and there was lots of light from large overhead windows but I found it less atmospheric than the first premises and because it was a large space I found it a bit noisy the sound seemed to echo a bit. That having been said I understand the move as the smaller restaurant was crowded and you could not always get a table. I have only ever eaten here for a light lunch and for that it is superb. The cuisine seems to have a Turkish, North African vibe, but I am no expert. Their lunch time special of a choice of several main dishes, including Lamb Kofta, Chicken Harrissa and Salmon and Smoked Haddock fish cakes plus two salads is just right as a light lunch and good value. The salads change regularly but are different and interesting and very tasty. I have never popped in for a coffee and something sweet but there is a very tempting display of cakes and pastries which look decidedly yummy. All in all I am more than happy to recommend this restaurant,
17/01/2017: Medina take on Sunday Lunch was excellent. Very relaxed atmosphere. Food and salads very good quality. Helpful staff. This event was a one off special. We have been to Medina several times before for and would recommend this venue for a late breakfast or lunch.

Latte-da Tearoom

Crickhowell,Llangattock, Powys, <20£
17/01/2017: Coffee is very good, as are the cakes and very pleasant staff. Pleasant ambiance and close to the centre of town.
17/01/2017: We have visited the tea room on a number of occasions, the place is small but beautifully put together. The owners and staff are friendly and helpful. Service is excellent. The Welsh rarebit is tasty and a meal in itself. The soups are homemade and served with freshly made bread. Cakes are mainly made on the premises. The food is very reasonably priced. Would recommend a visit.

The Castle Inn

Llangors, Powys
14/01/2017: We were staying at a local B&B and after somewhere local to eat this evening, the owner of the place we were staying at recommended the Castle Inn, we were met by the Landlord Mike and made to feel welcome, it is a lovely genuine country pub with a great menu and great value for money. The food was amazing and made while we waited . We will be coming back.
30/12/2016: Excellent menu, hard to choose, the selection was so good and local, amazing food in a cosy venue. Service was also good. Strongly reccomend.

Casablanca

Aberystwyth Canol/Central, Ceredigion
19/01/2017: Fantastic food every time! Great atmosphere, cosy and friendly. Take your own drink and guaranteed great food!

Gwesty Cymru

Aberystwyth Canol/Central, Ceredigion
15/01/2017: There is an excellent choice of locally sourced food. The restaurant is modern and convivial. The staff are knowledgeable and attentive. The option of conversing in Welsh with the staff is an added bonus, though not essential.
21/12/2016: The welcome here is second to none! The owners, Mr & Mrs Roberts and every member of their staff were friendly, cheerful, efficient and ... well, just 'nice'!The food is exceptionally good and although the basement restaurant has only about 30 covers, it is in great demand and booking is essential. Good value too! The excellent 3-course Christmas Menu came in at only £27.50 p/h including VAT, service and crackers with a good choice of well-sourced, prepared and served items. I thoroughly enjoyed their take on daube de boeuf as we both did for all the meals during our 3-night stay. The wine list is necesarily abbreviated but there are some cracking wines on it.Most memorable is the breakfast speciality of Magical Welsh Rarebit, cheese mixed with cider, mustard, Worcestershire sauce served on brown or white toast and topped with a thick-cut middle back bacon slice and a perfectly cooked poached egg ... phew! No need for 'elevenses' after that feast! There are just 8 rooms in this narrow building set back from the promenade and all are accessed by a narrow, twisting staircase. We had room 8 on the top (3rd) floor and enjoyed its sea views, its exposed beams and the excellent bathroom with both a deep bath and twin rose-head showers. The only negatives are the absence of any private parking (the limited sea-front parking is strictly time controlled, but free) and the absence of visible fire escapes from the upper floors although there are plenty of alarm warning points and extinguishers. We thought that the £10 per night supplement for zip and link twin beds was both odd and irritating, too. That said, we really enjoyed our first stay here and strongly recommend it to others. The restaurant alone makes it well worth while! I hope we'll stay again.

St John's Place

Hay, Powys
09/01/2017: Was not sure if made the right decision when first looked at the menu but that was certainly not the case. Each dish that we ordered was thoughtfully put together and the ingredients and flavour were superb ! We chose Skirt Steak for the main dish - absolutely wonderful !!!I have paid 3 times the cost of this meal elsewhere and was no where near the quality from St John's. Hat's off to the Chef and to all involved.Highly recommend to all.
21/11/2016: A great start to our evening was a delicious quince and rose martini with cardamom cashews to munch on. We were then blown away by the sage and anchovy fritters which couldn't have been a better introduction to what was to come next. Great to go here as a group of three so that we could order all three of the starter and main choices and share. Incredibly clever use of fantastic ingredients, we found it difficult to choose favourites but the Fried St. James, the Red Mullet, and the Lamb shoulder with labneh were pretty unforgettable.

Ultracomida

Aberystwyth Canol/Central, Ceredigion
17/01/2017: I took my girlfriend here for lunch and was not disappointed. I regularly go to ultracomida to buy meats and cheese and decided to try out the restaurant area. I went for lunch and tired a variety of food, all of which were very nice. I would highly recommend ultracomida to anybody and will be returning here to eat in the near future.
13/01/2017: This restaurant has bar seating around the edge and 2 large round tables in the middle. There was space for 4 of us on a Saturday evening in January. We ordered a selection of tapas which were all delicious. Meal for 4 with 2 bottles of wine and beer came to £100.
