Sketty, Swansea
14/08/2017: Wanting to go here for ages but you have to book really far in advance and I'm not the most organised person so never got round to it. However my mums birthday was a great excuse to treat her and myself! The food was outstanding! Every part of each dish was beautiful. They were like art! Service with a smile is always an added bonus! Will be back again!
12/08/2017: We knew there is a long wait for a table at Slice, yet still we left it too late to book for the evening of our anniversary. However when I phoned I was offered a table for lunch, which I hadn't though of so I booked. The restaurant itself is quite inconspicuous and doesn't really look like a restaurant from the outside. Similarly, when you enter and are shown upstairs to the small 16 cover eating area it doesn't look particularly amazing, however we soon discovered that this place's minimalist style is because it simply is all about the food. There were three choices for the starter and main course and two for dessert. My husband ordered duck terrine and liver parfait to begin with and I ordered tomato and bread salad with cheese brûlée. Now I'm not a particular fan of tomatoes but they tasted superb and the brûlée was out of this world! We'd already finished the tiny mini loaves (sliced) of home made brown bread and focaccia which were to die for. I know! It's only bread, you might think, but it was SO tasty. I'd have bought some of the bread to take away with us if I could. Main courses of sea bass with lobster and pigeon breast were beautiful - plates cleared again. Desserts were equally as pleasing, especially my Eton Mess (pictured) which was delightfully presented and entailed having to smash the "cricket ball" with the little cricket bat before consuming. A very novel end to a fantastic meal (no wonder this particular dessert won the Great British Menu prize last year). We ended with coffee and petits fours (raspberry marshmallow and a chocolate fudge) and we had a pleasant and quite reasonably priced red wine to accompany. Each course comes with a recommended wine; there's also a tasting menu complete with "wine flight" available so we now have our sights set on returning to sample this. Should you want to come on a Saturday evening we are told to book around twelve weeks in advance which speaks for itself. Service was relaxed and friendly and as we left, one of the chefs popped his head out of the kitchen to thank us - which we reciprocated - and both waved as we passed. They can be seen cooking through the large shop front style window which is novel. Highly recommended- thank you all for making our anniversary enjoyable and memorable!

Belle Vue Bistro

Castle, Swansea, 20-30£
15/08/2017: Lovely food and lovely people. I had a pizza, garlic bread and calamari with the Oreo tart for dessert, as recommended by the lovely waitress. Would definitely go again
13/08/2017: We were spending one night in Swansea so consulted Trip Advisor to find a restaurant. Luckily we chose this bistro and had the last table. Everything was excellent. I had the best calamares I have ever eaten. My husband had a pasta dish which was also good. There were very few places open so we were lucky to find room in this very small bistro. Excellent white chocolate TiraMisu ! Highly recommend!

The Crown

Mardy, Monmouthshire
14/08/2017: great food, good service, really enjoyable family meal. unexpected treat half way up a welsh mountain
10/08/2017: A party of six went for dinner at the Crown a little while ago. We have mixed feelings about the visit. First the welcome and service was warm, friendly and the service was very good. My concerns are not about the way that the food was presented. my starter was belly pork and I expected strips but it was in a stack. The ingredients of the steak pie was excellent but it was served as a hot pot, loose on a plate with a very large puff pastry separate. The puff pastry was dry and lacked much taste but the meat and gravy etc. were very tasty the meat was very tender and no fat. Suggest that the pie be served enclosed in pastry or in a pie dish.. There was no fish on the menu

Gwaelod y Garth Inn

Pentyrch, Cardiff, <20£
20/08/2017: We were looking for a restaurant with healthy delicious choices and we were not disappointed. Very friendly staff and warm and comfortable atmosphere. We started with a few appetizers, and both agreed the spicy meatballs were our favorite. My husband had the filet and I had the grilled seabass. Highly recommend!
18/08/2017: Go here often on summers evenings for a drink. It's a lovely pub with a nice little front garden and in a nice spot on the Garth looking over the Taff Valley. Friendly staff and great array of beers and bar snacks. Also had a great piece of cake! We haven't eaten here yet but are planning on soon.

The Brit Pub

Bryn and Cwmavon, Neath Port Talbot, 20-30£
04/09/2017: Discovered this pub through the online reviews and gave it a try for lunch today. So glad we did. Everything about the place is quality.....the welcome ,the service, the meals we had, the choice of beers.......all were a reminder of the days before the arrival of the chain pub. It was a pleasure to see an owner and his staff take so much pride in their business.....not to be missed.
04/09/2017: Great food, beer and friendly service. Definitely recommend.

Castle, Swansea, 30-45£
21/08/2017: Great food, great service, great wine. Definitely not the cheapest place as the menu has a lot of variety and it's easy to over order and the bill quickly adds up! A very elegant and quirky place. I look forward to returning.
13/08/2017: Online, it looked amazing. Upon approaching the slightly hidden, not talked about restaurant, I was confused, the interior was not what my little brain expected. It was classier. Not a typical tapas street food venue with bright colours and odd furniture.Staff were brilliant and even when out of their way to make us an old fashioned. (FYI, they are not a cocktail bar)The food was different in the best possible way. The selection of dishes is vast, colourful and they even cater for vegetarians, vegans and the gluten free (not that I applaud these lifestyle choices :P )Don't leave without at least looking at the desserts!

Oystermouth, Swansea
20/08/2017: The mint chocolate chip ice cream was the best I have tasted - really minty and refreshing. It's very busy but the service is very efficient.
19/08/2017: Best ice cream ever.Must have the plain and then different toppings.Joe's is always busy as everyone who visits Swansea must have a Joe's.Lots of different varieties but the plain ice cream is the best. The one in the pic is a raspberry and cream north pole.

The Clink Restaurant

Adamsdown, Cardiff, 20-30£
19/08/2017: Booked up in good faith and completely let down . Hostess blamed the "system" but had no solution of was any help in any way . Do not book unless by phone. Useless service . Very dissapointed FRUSTRATED!!!!!!!!!!!
19/08/2017: Went here with my mum and her friend. The food was incredible. Very well presented. Nice sized portions. Reasonable prices. We really enjoyed every mouthful. If I wasn't so full I could have eaten it all again. Highly recommended. Food is made by convicts that are making a fresh start in life. They are very talented chefs

Cyncoed, Cardiff, <20£
22/08/2017: This small family run Italian Restraunt hidden away in the suburbs of Cardiff City, would be just as well accepted if it were tucked away in the back streets of Napoli. The food is fresh and the innovated Italian dishes are beautifully presented. The pizzas however, have the 'WOW FACTOR'. (One of my daughters is married to a Italian and I've consumed a few Over the years visiting Italy). The state of the arts wood burner pizza oven is purported to be the secret ingredient, so I've been told. The chef pretty good too ‍! I urge you to Seek this little gem out. You will not be disappointed . But I suggest you call first as their opening times can be rather erratic . It's well worth the find.RJ
20/08/2017: We went out for a meal and had such a lovely evening. It was our first visit and the outside area wasn't the most appealing on a Saturday night but the door was opened with a hugely welcoming smile and warmth. The staff were so humble and friendly and created a great atmosphere. They were attentive and good fun, making our family feel very relaxed. The menu wasn't huge but it was well thought out and considered with a range of foods that would suit everyone. The starters were delicious (calamari cooked to perfection and mushroom buschetta). Then some had veal for main, so tender and others had pizza which were very authentic from the pizza oven. Incredible flavours and I even got to take home the last bit that I couldn't finish as there was no way I could leave it. Thank you for making us feel so very welcome and we will be back soon. Ps the Chianti wine we had, delicious!

Liswerry, Newport
18/08/2017: What a treat! Beautiful food, presented to an extremely high standard. The food was literally bursting with flavour.Lovely, very attentive staff. It would be wonderful if a Gemelli's was to open in the new Friars Walk development. If your looking for a special place to go, look no further.
12/08/2017: We went for lunchtime treat and was not disappointed, it was absolutely lovely. Really good choice for those on gluten free diet and you can't resist the desserts they are to die for. Will definitely return again and recommend.

Nishimura Sushi and Noodle Bar

Uplands, Swansea
11/08/2017: We visited for an evening meal, and were warmly welcomed on arrival, and our drinks were accompanied by some complimentary vegetable gyoza, a nice touch. The menu was fulsome, with so much to tempt, my son and I went for bento boxes, which is a complete meal, including sushi, soup, main course, sides and rice, all washed down with a local beer. My wife oped for a chicken teriyaki noodle dish and was equally delighted with her choice. First class food impossible to fault at a very reasonable price, thank you
09/08/2017: Was recommended this restaurant by a friend and it is a gem of a place...very friendly staff and warm welcome. Fantastic menu choice with photos, beautiful food and clean bright surroundings. Bench seating, as is normal in this type of restaurant but a lot cosier. I had the chicken katsu curry which was great, my wife had the donburi chicken katsu don which was delicious. We also had the nasu agedashi (aubergine) which was really tasty. As always we had kimuchi and oshinko mix, all fresh with a good 'crunch'. The plum wine was the best my wife has tried. Will definitely go back again; suitable for children, the staff were very friendly and accommodating of other customers who had their children with them. They don't take card payments but there is a free cash machine next door.Well worth a visit and we'll be back again.

Afternoon Tea at the Angel

Grofield, Monmouthshire
18/08/2017: I was looking for where we could have a high tea after visiting the Blenovan Heritage Centre in Wales and chance upon this. I booked in advance - recommended and Angel Hotel responded promptly. They even sent me 2 reminders a few days and on the morning itself. My wife and I shared a high tea. £27.50 and i ordered an extra coffee for £3.50 which was with refills. It includes scones fresh strawberries and cream. That was a nice touch. Dainty cutlery and china, attentive and great service. Beats some more famous high teas in London. Each morsel of savoury pastry, sandwich and cake were done well. Truly 5 star rating. And we had to bring back 3 pieces of cake. Lots to eat for even 2.
16/08/2017: Bel ristorante, elegante ma al punto giusto. Buon cibo e buona accoglienza. Agnello superlativo e filetto ben cucinati. Torta al cioccolato notevole

Nata & Co

Adamsdown, Cardiff
19/08/2017: Have visited the Bute St bakery on a number of occasions and on Friday August 18th a large number of fellow retirement group party guests responded to my recommendation and visited the cafe to sample their delightful Nata tarts. However, while some of us enjoyed our visit most of our guests refused to enter the bakery as a result of the 2 point hygiene rating posted on the door. The cafe had tried to hide it a little by positioning the sticker very low down but still it did not escape the eyes of our party, which was a pity as it is a very pleasant, friendly and reasonably priced establishment.Nata Bakery really must get their hygiene rating improved before the current situation affects their business.
16/08/2017: Called into get some Portuguese custard tarts (pastéis de nata) to take away,They were delicious a definite must visit for sweet treats.

Chai Street

Gabalfa, Cardiff, <20£
21/08/2017: I've never been disappointed with the food at chai street, I visit on a regular basis and recommend it to anyone who'll listen. The thalis are delicious, slightly different overtime so you never get bored. The starters are delicious, the drinks are great too. On more than one occasion the service has let them down. On my most recent visit all was going well until my friend and I went to the bar to pay. The man working that day was on the phone and stayed on the phone for quite some time before hanging up and acknowledging us. When we paid he asked us to figure out how much change we would require, once we had done this he took his sweet time counting out the change and giving it to us. I'm a very patient person but his slow style of work was extremely grating. Its a real shame that anything should let this fantastic restaurant down.
19/08/2017: We had a few starters and a main to share between us 2 and we absolutely loved it! I definitely recommend the chicken 65 and chaat. Those starters are amazing. The place is also very friendly with very good service and nice restaurant room.

Priory, Monmouthshire
Bravi
08/08/2017: The noise and echo was unacceptable. The meal average. Not going again.The. Hard design may. ok for some, but not for us.
