Chai Street

Gabalfa, Cardiff, <20£
16/03/2017: Been here a few times and have never been disappointed. The food is delicious, reasonably priced and with the relaxed atmosphere you have a great combination! The menu is basic, but offers something for everyone... The chef special Thali is fresh and vibrant and their roti's are a perfect snack for lunch. The restaurant itself is not big so go early or book to avoid disappointment. I can see this establishment opening more and more restaurants and long may it continue.
13/03/2017: If you want authentic cooking this is it. The tastes in the Thali are like nothing I've had in the UK before, took me straight back to Mumbai! The prices are reasonable too and service was great. I'll definitly be back to try more dishes.

Belle Vue Bistro

Castle, Swansea, 20-30£
18/03/2017: After spending a pleasant morning at the Egypt exhibition in Swansea University, we stopped here for lunch before a walk around Swansea indoor market and then home. For starters we had the Calamari and the Mozzarella salad. The Calamari was excellent but I thought the Mozzarella, whilst pleasant, would have benefited from some seasoning i.e more/some salt as it lacked a little flavor for me?For main I had the chicken fillet with Cajun spices and my partner one of the homemade pizza's, both were very tasty.Service was pleasant and attentive and we will return.
18/03/2017: what can I say? This place is by far the nicest in Swansea, the food never disappoints and the service is always brilliant

Nata & Co

Adamsdown, Cardiff
18/03/2017: What a wonderful place. so cheap and so good.Very friendly staff and plenty of products to chose from.
18/03/2017: This is a great little find. All the amazing pastries were so fresh and very good prices too. It was our favourite discovery in Cardiff - definitely worth a visit.

Afternoon Tea at the Angel

3 offers
Grofield, Monmouthshire
14/03/2017: My girlfriend went on a Friday afternoon for the excellent high tea at the Angel. The staff couldn't have been more helpful - a couple chatted to us about the food and another about the exceptional list of different teas (we were encouraged to try multiple teas each throughout the course of the visit - all included in the price). The food itself was also great - nice selection of sandwiches, warm savoury pastries, mandarin trifle, fresh scones with cream and jam, and a large range of different cakes. So much we couldn't finish them all so the staff helpfully packed them into a little box to take away. Really enjoyed it and would go again.
06/03/2017: First visit for me to this hotel. Impressed with the interior decor, very stylish. The staff are very attentive and helpful, especially the lady who served our tea. There was a good selection of sandwiches, thankfully not the tiny ones cut into fingers. A selection of warm savouries including quiche and sausage rolls, lovely mini cakes, little orange trifles and scones. The choice of different teas available was vast and we could have tried more than one if we wanted, but one was really sufficient for us. Good value for money and enjoyable overall experience.

Gwaelod y Garth Inn

Pentyrch, Cardiff, <20£
19/03/2017: Sunday lunch here was amazing! We had 3 lamb dinners and 3 beef dinners, every one of us thoroughly enjoyed and struggled to finish as there was so much of everything! Well worth the visit!
18/03/2017: Nine of us booked in for my husbands sixty fifth birthday and absolutely everyone had a lovely time and really good meal.Starters were really great - the garlic crevettes at £11 for four isnt cheap but really lovely.Scallops were great too and the two children enjoyed garlic bread. Mains were really smashing. The specials board offered an interesting stir fry which a few of us had. The fillet steak strogonoff was also good. Duck and lamb came quite rare - as ordered and were snaffled up. I opted for plain old cod and chips which was really lovely. The restaurant was happy for us to bring a birthday cake which we had as pudding .Which they dlievered with the candles glowing A really nice night

Cafe Citta

Cathays, Cardiff
19/03/2017: Love , Love this place ...Make reservations! It's well loved by others too! The food is authentic Italian. We ordered a pizza as an appetizer .(.Had to taste because it looked so delicious) amazing!!!
18/03/2017: Given all the great reviewers, we having been wanting to try this restaurant for a while. We finally managed to book a table for dinner. We booked for 7pm & were told we had the table until 9pm which was fine. The service was very very friendly & attentive. We were just a bit disappointed with the food. Although it was nice & tasty, it was nothing special. Given all the previous reviews we thought it would be exceptional. Our expectations were probably too high. I think I would probably go back for a lunchtime meal but I don't think I would go back for dinner.

Chip & Fin

Abersychan, Torfaen

19/02/2017: This is like no fish&chip shop that you will remember as a child if you're a certain age.Appears to be very busy, and the staff are really energetic, very friendly and passionate about how they serve the community. And if you ring ahead for your order, they will have it ready for you without any fuss..

The Clink Restaurant

Adamsdown, Cardiff, 20-30£
18/03/2017: A visit to Cardiff to see the Red Shoes, we decided to try out The Clink- the food is of a high standard, surpassing usual restaurant offerings. The guys serving us were great fun. Starters of pigeon and terrine were delicious, the scallop and arancini middle courses continued to impress. Mains were well presented, well cooked, and left no room for the substantial puds.Be aware of no alcohol, can recommend the elderflower bubbly
18/03/2017: Really good food, good service. Worth coming back! I recommend that place. Everything was just perfect

Cyncoed, Cardiff, <20£
17/03/2017: Visited for the fourth time the other night. I had the cannon of lamb salad starter and my partner ate the fried calamari. Both were superb and presented beautifully. I once again ordered a pizza as I can't resist. They are literally the best pizzas around! My partner ordered the ragu which was apparently very tasty and very filling. Very warm and friendly. I can see us becoming regulars with it being so close to where we live.
11/03/2017: Well what can I say about this little hidden gem, myself and family visited Da Mara Wednesday evening and to say the least the service the food was out standing, and it was top notch, we all had starters and they were delicious, right amount of food just to settle our stomachs ready for the mains, 3 of us all had pizzas and myself had the fish(amazing flavours)and wow they were amazing top quality dough and just the flavours we're to die for, drinks was always flowing by the waitress wich was very nice. A big thanks to mark and tony for having us, and also the chefs, also to the young lad that works in the kitchen only young but what an amazing passion he got about food and will go very far! Would never go anywhere else for an Italian ! Keep it up guys, thank you for an amazing time and amazing food and company :) cheers Julie

Castle, Swansea, 30-45£
18/03/2017: Great choice of international tapas in this stylish modern restaurant. Recommend the jerk chicken in particular, really lovely. We ordered three tapas each and that made 15 dishes between five, which was a good quantity. Liked the idea of writing our choices onto one menu. If you like grazing .... then this classy place is for you.
16/03/2017: Visited Mosaic for the first time last night. We were warmly welcomed by the owners, and the staff were really friendly. The food was out of this world, in fact the sweet potato fries and jamaican jerk duck just burst flavour in my mouth.Every element of our meal was fantastic.(The garlic bread was to ie for!!) Will definately be back very soon.

Nant Restaurant

Taffs Well, Rhondda Cynon Taf
19/03/2017: I was privileged to join a lunch featuring dishes that won prizes at the culinary awards. A huge haul of awards were on display and then we got to eat the award winning dishes.I had the pheasant starter cooked by Lucy that was a taste explosion and great use of many parts of the bird. What a start! She also provided the next course of Mackerel, though less impressive it was a great bridge to the mains.Raj's dishes featured in the main choices and I had his red snapper dish. The fish was cooked perfectly and the chorizo and bean stew it sat on provided a little heat to warm me on a cold day. In terms of looks it was a stunner. My chocolate dessert was by Alys Evans and this would equal desserts I have eaten at Michelin starred restaurants this year. In every aspect it was spot on. She also cooked the other choice of lemon soufflé which I stole a spoon of but I preferred my choice.Just sorry I didn't get the chance to try Matt's starter and Jess's main but others around me said they were also very good.O can certainly see how they won so many awards. Can't wait to dine again.
17/03/2017: Booked for dinner with four friends last night. Unfortunately the waiting staff forgot to give us our amuse bouche which we later found out about when the chefs came to speak to the tables of diners. It sounded delicious so was a little vexed that we were not offered it!Drinks orders were taken promptly as were food orders. Between us we had the beef shin ravioli and the Moroccan spiced lamb balls. Of the two, I would say if you have a big appetite then the lamb balls were the better option as it was a more substantial dish and according to the two in our party who had it, was lovely and almost a meal in itself with three meatballs and couscous. My ravioli was rather more underwhelming I'm afraid and we all agreed that the pasta was not silky smooth and the filling was not generous enough considering that shin of beef is a relatively cheap cut of meat. The flavour of the consommé however was good although it was disappointing to see a pretzel bread accompaniment described on the menu which did not appear with the dish. Having requested it, an apology was made and a very badly made bread roll was presented which was incredibly salty and way too dense in texture. Clearly something had gone wrong with the pretzel mixture and it would've been better for some sort of communication to have happened between chef and waiting staff so that customers were told that it had to be left off. After all, this is a training restaurant and we all understand that mistakes are bound to happen- heck they happen in top notch high end restaurants too where the food is nowhere near the value for money it is here!Mains were more successful. Some of us enjoyed the miso sole with pollack brandade (breaded fish slice) and spinach timbale. One diner went veggie and very much enjoyed the wild mushroom and cheddar fritters with roasted vegetables. I and three others chose the pan fried guinea fowl breast with confit leg parcel. This dish was extremely accomplished with tender but golden guinea fowl cooked perfectly so that it was moist whilst having a deliciously crisp and salty skin. The little cubes of roasted parsnip were one of those very small elements that often make a dish and the accompanying jus was also wonderful. The only slight let down was the confit leg parcel as the pastry for this was not right. It was shaped like a miniature pithiver (pie) and would've benefitted from being made with puff pastry rather than shortcrust. Also, like the beef shin ravioli, the filling was stingy. The dish of accompanying vegetables for the entire table were cooked to perfection- carrots, broccoli, mange tout and green beans all steamed beautifully and still with 'bite' and also the little cubes of roasted potatoes were divine!Desserts were also executed very well- Cherry mousse in a brandy snap basket with raspberry sorbet was received very well as a refreshing end to the meal and the Opera cake which three of us chose looked like it was going to be heavy, but was actually surprisingly light. It came with chocolate jellies which although were pleasant, did not actually add anything to the dish. The couple of fresh raspberries on top of each slice of cake were actually what made the dish as their sourness cut through the richness of the cake. I would therefore suggest swapping some elements- the chocolate jellies with the cherry mousse and the raspberry sorbet with the Opera cake.As usual, the wine on offer is mind blowingly good value for money at £2.60 per glass or just shy of a tenner for a bottle. I loved the Chilean merlot I ordered as it was at the perfect temperature and one of our party had two glasses of Chardonnay. The bill for five three course meals and three glasses of wine was £70 which for the kind of food we were served represents amazing value for money. £12.50 for a three course dinner is totally out of this world- you will struggle to get one main course for that price anywhere else!My advice for anyone thinking about coming to Nant, is book early, in my experience lunch has tended to be better quality of food than dinner (and it is two quid cheaper!). Also, be prepared for not everything on the plate to be perfect. As I said before, you always have to remember that this is a training restaurant and therefore mistakes should be expected. Lastly- GO! Eating here is always a treat and I guarantee you will not come away feeling that your money has not been well spent which is so often the case these days when I eat out.

Saray Restaurant

Plasnewydd, Cardiff
13/03/2017: I ate here a few weeks ago, and the food was excellent. It was lunchtime and so not very busy. The prices are great, starters extremely tasty, the meat first class and the salads really fresh. .Being a little lazy I never thought to write a review. But today I was in Cardiff and feeling a little grim. I asked for a cup of turkish tea which they provided and let me sit down. They don't usually do this as they are a restaurant not a cafe. They did not know me from Adam but made an exception. When I tried to pay, they would not take money. They were adamant. They could see that I did not feel fantastic. Such kindness in the UK in 2017 is wonderful to find.Tesekur ederim.
08/03/2017: The portions in here are quite large.Made the mistake of having a starter on my first visit so was half full by the time my meal came. They do offer to pack your food up if you cant eat it all - lots of people doing this so you wouldn't feel awkward if you wanted to take it home.
