Cafe Citta

Cathays, Cardiff
19/03/2017: Love , Love this place ...Make reservations! It's well loved by others too! The food is authentic Italian. We ordered a pizza as an appetizer .(.Had to taste because it looked so delicious) amazing!!!
18/03/2017: Given all the great reviewers, we having been wanting to try this restaurant for a while. We finally managed to book a table for dinner. We booked for 7pm & were told we had the table until 9pm which was fine. The service was very very friendly & attentive. We were just a bit disappointed with the food. Although it was nice & tasty, it was nothing special. Given all the previous reviews we thought it would be exceptional. Our expectations were probably too high. I think I would probably go back for a lunchtime meal but I don't think I would go back for dinner.

Gwaelod y Garth Inn

Pentyrch, Cardiff, <20£
19/03/2017: Sunday lunch here was amazing! We had 3 lamb dinners and 3 beef dinners, every one of us thoroughly enjoyed and struggled to finish as there was so much of everything! Well worth the visit!
18/03/2017: Nine of us booked in for my husbands sixty fifth birthday and absolutely everyone had a lovely time and really good meal.Starters were really great - the garlic crevettes at £11 for four isnt cheap but really lovely.Scallops were great too and the two children enjoyed garlic bread. Mains were really smashing. The specials board offered an interesting stir fry which a few of us had. The fillet steak strogonoff was also good. Duck and lamb came quite rare - as ordered and were snaffled up. I opted for plain old cod and chips which was really lovely. The restaurant was happy for us to bring a birthday cake which we had as pudding .Which they dlievered with the candles glowing A really nice night

Anatonis

Cyncoed, Cardiff, <20£
17/03/2017: Visited for the fourth time the other night. I had the cannon of lamb salad starter and my partner ate the fried calamari. Both were superb and presented beautifully. I once again ordered a pizza as I can't resist. They are literally the best pizzas around! My partner ordered the ragu which was apparently very tasty and very filling. Very warm and friendly. I can see us becoming regulars with it being so close to where we live.
11/03/2017: Well what can I say about this little hidden gem, myself and family visited Da Mara Wednesday evening and to say the least the service the food was out standing, and it was top notch, we all had starters and they were delicious, right amount of food just to settle our stomachs ready for the mains, 3 of us all had pizzas and myself had the fish(amazing flavours)and wow they were amazing top quality dough and just the flavours we're to die for, drinks was always flowing by the waitress wich was very nice. A big thanks to mark and tony for having us, and also the chefs, also to the young lad that works in the kitchen only young but what an amazing passion he got about food and will go very far! Would never go anywhere else for an Italian ! Keep it up guys, thank you for an amazing time and amazing food and company :) cheers Julie

The Clink Restaurant

Adamsdown, Cardiff, 20-30£
18/03/2017: A visit to Cardiff to see the Red Shoes, we decided to try out The Clink- the food is of a high standard, surpassing usual restaurant offerings. The guys serving us were great fun. Starters of pigeon and terrine were delicious, the scallop and arancini middle courses continued to impress. Mains were well presented, well cooked, and left no room for the substantial puds.Be aware of no alcohol, can recommend the elderflower bubbly
18/03/2017: Really good food, good service. Worth coming back! I recommend that place. Everything was just perfect

Saray Restaurant

Plasnewydd, Cardiff
13/03/2017: I ate here a few weeks ago, and the food was excellent. It was lunchtime and so not very busy. The prices are great, starters extremely tasty, the meat first class and the salads really fresh. .Being a little lazy I never thought to write a review. But today I was in Cardiff and feeling a little grim. I asked for a cup of turkish tea which they provided and let me sit down. They don't usually do this as they are a restaurant not a cafe. They did not know me from Adam but made an exception. When I tried to pay, they would not take money. They were adamant. They could see that I did not feel fantastic. Such kindness in the UK in 2017 is wonderful to find.Tesekur ederim.
08/03/2017: The portions in here are quite large.Made the mistake of having a starter on my first visit so was half full by the time my meal came. They do offer to pack your food up if you cant eat it all - lots of people doing this so you wouldn't feel awkward if you wanted to take it home.

Mezza Luna

Plasnewydd, Cardiff, 20-30£
18/03/2017: Booked at the last minute on a Saturday night having been very disappointed with where we had booked. Very helpfully Danielle squeezed us in. What a treat we had, a very friendly welcome, cocktails and the most delicious food. Traditional tagines with melt in the mouth lamb and a mixed grill with all the accompaniments. Very authentic and very generous portions. Washed down with two glasses of wine. The belly dancer entertained us well. And all for under £50. A memorable birthday thank you
17/03/2017: We went to dinner and the food was great! There was a belly dancer who even encouraged us to dance which was so much fun! Ana and zack, the owners then stayed 45 minutes after closing to talk with us!!!!! Very multicultural and amazing food. We have been to Morocco and the food is authentic. There are many options and I am gluten free and found my way around. Overall we had a very entertaining experience and it was a lot of fun. We can't wait to go again!!!

Chai Street

Gabalfa, Cardiff, <20£
16/03/2017: Been here a few times and have never been disappointed. The food is delicious, reasonably priced and with the relaxed atmosphere you have a great combination! The menu is basic, but offers something for everyone... The chef special Thali is fresh and vibrant and their roti's are a perfect snack for lunch. The restaurant itself is not big so go early or book to avoid disappointment. I can see this establishment opening more and more restaurants and long may it continue.
13/03/2017: If you want authentic cooking this is it. The tastes in the Thali are like nothing I've had in the UK before, took me straight back to Mumbai! The prices are reasonable too and service was great. I'll definitly be back to try more dishes.

New York Deli

Cathays, Cardiff
19/03/2017: This is a good place to eat where you have little time and starving. I ordered the Richie parks hoagie which is salt beef, metled swiss, gherkins. All of it was amazing altho it is so large it got cold before I finished. Considering the size and the price it is rely good value quality. Not something I could have every week but certainly worth multiple visits.
17/03/2017: Visited the Deli for the first time today after several years - was reminded firstly how good the food is and secondly how much they give you to eat. This was a venue years ahead of its time when it first opened years ago. It has retained its originality and friendliness whilst providing a huge range of sandwiches, rolls and hoagies. Great value, great welcome and I will be back soon.

11/03/2017: Man who owns the restaurant is really sweet and obviously cares about the service he provides. Food well priced and really tasty! would recommend! Great value if you are a student
22/01/2017: A small and friendly quaint little hideaway, with very tasty fresh food, made with love.. The service is spot on, honest and welcoming and the ambiance is calming and cosy.. It's a fuss free menu and everything we saw we could have ordered ourselves. I liked this place, it's hit the spot. I'll be back. Give it a go.

Madeira

Cathays, Cardiff, <20£
15/03/2017: Visited the Madeira on a Tuesday lunchtime and was astonished to find the restaurant full with only one table free! The 2 course set lunch is very good value. We both had chicken liver pate and then a cutlet of pan fried hake and a sirloin steak to follow accompanied by veg of the day and delicious light and crispy cubed fries.Service was friendly and professional - worth a visit.
15/03/2017: £10.95 for two courses at The Madeira (Lunchtime Menu) is an absolute bargain. Service is outstanding, the staff are so happy and helpful. But... it's all about the food & its sooooooo good. Can't wait to go back!

La Mangiatoia

Riverside, Cardiff, <20£
19/03/2017: Delicious!! The pizza was super tasty and big enough to share. Reasonably priced - definitely worth a visit!
06/03/2017: Went here with a group of friends for some food before a gig. This place is amazing. Big portions really tasty and good value. There was only one guy working there and the restaurant. By the time we left it was busy but he was really efficient. Basically doing the job of 3 people taking orders, cooking and also completing take away food. I would definitely come back for another visit, it is cash only and bring your own drink. I'm really looking forward to my next meal

Fish at 85

Riverside, Cardiff
12/03/2017: I came to Fish at 85 a few years ago with family and loved it. The food, service, wine and ambience were all top notch and we arranged to go back again for a special occasion on Saturday. We were unfortunately all quite disappointed with the whole experience. My husband's mussels tasted great but were full of grit, and two of our party's tuna steaks were cooked all the way through when the dish was supposed to be served seared. We did mention both to the waiter and two new tuna steaks were brought to us which we appreciated but it was a shame to have to mention it. The fish counter has also been moved almost out of sight to make way for more tables which is a pity as it was great to be able to see all the fresh fish on display and was part of the restaurant's novelty. I'm not sure whether the place has changed hands or if we were just unlucky but overall it was a bit of an anticlimax given how much we loved it the first time.
12/03/2017: Booked a late lunch pre Friday night Six Nations game - couldn't have been happier - Liam and his colleague who looked after us were lovely - food first class - both had Scallops with Chorizo & Chilli jam to start - beautifully cooked and a really good portion size - I had Lemon Sole with capers and butter - simple but just as it should be - my partner in crime had Sea Bass - again, just as it should be and good portions - we had a bottle of Picpoule de Pinet (actually we had 2) - cheapest on the list and perfect with fish - can't recommend highly enough - not cheap but great value

Madame Fromage

Cathays, Cardiff
14/03/2017: We popped in for a late lunch before the match. I had an enormous cheese platter which came with an interesting selection of bread. The cheeses were first-rate and I just about managed to eat them all! My husband had a beef bourgignon pie with new potatoes and salad and he said it was very tasty. Service was fast and efficient & all the staff seemed happy to help.
13/03/2017: We visited Madam Fromage for the first time this weekend and were delighted with our experience. The staff were friendly and helpful, the venue charming and the food absolutely delicious. Between us, we had; the Welsh Rarebit, the tapas board, the baked Camembert and the mushrooms and every dish was fantastic. Wine is served in lovely little traditional french style wine glasses and there is a great selection of Victorian style soft drinks. The cheese selection in the deli was a sight to behold and we were only sad that we had enjoyed so much delicious cheese with our meals that we were too full for more.Without a doubt, visit this absolute Welsh gem if you are in Cardiff City Centre.

The Pot

Cathays, Cardiff
13/03/2017: We had an impromptu night on the town on Saturday. We decided to try somewhere new for dinner. We managed to get an early table even though it was last minute. I had the pate to start which was really nice although you could give more toast to go with the size of pot! I had the boulliabiasse for main which was nice but not as hot as it could have been. My partner had the galette to start and for someone who is not a blue cheese fan really enjoyed it & had the cassoulet for main & by comparison to mine was like napalm. The menu offered a good selection of vegetarian food which is rare for French cuisine. The waitress was friendly & attentive. I wasn't much fussed with the tiny table that we were sat at but understand space is limited. We are planning a return trip with friends so A we'll get a bigger table & B I really want to try the lamb!
12/03/2017: Had a quick breakfast with my family, we were around than popped in with my children. Loved the salmon and the rest. Very relaxing even though this kind of pop up restaurant not for children really! Food outstanding, service perfect. Recommended to everyone who open for new things.
