17/01/2017: Visited in a group of 9. The place was bustling and friendly. Food and service superb. The staff provided a mix of starters to share before mains so we tried a lot of different dishes. Everything was delicious. Will be back.
16/01/2017: Excellent food and superb service. The ambience was very relaxing and cool. The only down side was the food portion of the thaali which was not enough for an adult but can be over looked as the food was delicious.

Cafe Citta

Cathays, Cardiff
19/01/2017: Visited for lunch with a friend. Staff were helpful and efficient. The food was just delicious. You need to book in advance but it's well worth it.
18/01/2017: I went here after it was recommended to me from a colleague. I wasn't disappointed ! The greeting was cold and the staff didn't sell the establishment for me, but the food and my company. It was unfortunate that the lights were on, no dimmed light, that was such a shame. But I would still return simply in the hope that the light is dimmed and the personnel in a good mood because I'm sure the food will be top notch again!

The Clink Restaurant

Adamsdown, Cardiff, 20-30£
18/01/2017: I went with my work colleagues for Christmas lunch. I had goose which was a new dish for me. Everything was well presented to an excellent standard. Everyone enjoyed their meals, a great selection of both sweet and savoury dishes. Personally what is even more special about the Clink is it gives individuals the opportunity to discover gifts and talents they never knew they had. They are able to gain work experience, achieve a sense of purpose and a hope that their future can be different. I would definitely visit again and support this cause.
17/01/2017: We visited the Clink restaurant in Cardiff late November 2016, we pre ordered the Christmas menu. The food was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. Our waiter was lovely very attentive and couldn't do enough for us. We went as had heard from friends it was a lovely, different place to enjoy good food and it didn't disappoint. No alcohol allowed but that didn't bother our group of 4. It's very busy so you need to book early to get in. We have plans to have there afternoon tea as we've also heard that that is stunning too. 5 stars. Great concept, will definitely return :)

Gwaelod y Garth Inn

Pentyrch, Cardiff, <20£
17/01/2017: We love the Gwaelod the food is consistently good, the welcome friendly and the bar warm, dog friendly and wonderfully relaxed just right after a long cold walk up the Garth mountain! The burgers were wholesome with real meat a very substantial lunch hubby spotted the faggots and peas which looked amazing a definite lure to return.
16/01/2017: This is the best pub/ resterant in Cardiff, the food is all locally sauced and delisous, the beer range is good varied and alway on top form, they also brew their own beer on site. Most of the eating is done upstairs, so down stairs, still retains a traditional pub feel, there is also a good area outside to lap up the sun, on those nice days, and if you are feeling energetic, there is a nice walk up to the top of the garth montain, that start behind the pub.

Madame Fromage

Cathays, Cardiff
14/01/2017: Chose this cafe for lunch this Saturday, had been a couple of times before with friends so knew the food was tasty and freshly prepared and very busy on a Saturday. Was dining alone so a little self conscious but after a relatively short wait for the number of people queuing in front.of me I was given a table and made to feel very welcome. Can recommend the hot spiced crumble for pudding it is delicious!

Purple Poppadom

Riverside, Cardiff, 45-60£
19/01/2017: Visited early on a Wednesday evening in January with my wife and our 8 year old daughter. Very few diners all the time we were there so very little bustle or atmosphere. No children's menu, unfortunately, so our daughter had to choose off the a la carte, at full price. My wife and I had the 7 course Tasting Menu, which was very good. The sea bass, cooked in banana skin, was a brilliant 2nd course. The 5th course was Murg Makhni, chicken in a rich tomato sauce with pilau rice, this seemed something of an afterthought and was perhaps wrongly placed on the menu. One, average, bottle of wine and a couple of other drinks brought the bill to over £160, a little steep! The bill included a " voluntary" 10% service charge which annoyed me. Very difficult to make a scene and ask for it to be taken off. Very good food but expensive and children are not really catered for.
16/01/2017: How overpriced is this place !!!!!! 4 drinks, poppadoms and four mains over £100, food was awful it was like a bowl of soup with three bits of meat in each. Cannot believe how many people rate this place, I suggest if you are thinking about a visit think hard. Never to return.......

10/01/2017: Headed over based on TA reviews and it's true as takeaway sandwiches go it was very nice however it was cold which was slightly disappointing. Also very expensive for what you get.

Mowgli's

Cathays, Cardiff
18/01/2017: Second time visiting Mowglis and was just as good as we remembered! Excellent value with the Wednesday deal. The food was lovely. I particularly enjoyed the tuna! generous portion sizes but staff were happy to pack up leftovers in a take away. Service was also very good, the staff were very friendly and seemed very genuine. Looking forward to our next visit to try more of the temping dishes on their menu. Definitely recommend for value, delishious food and friendly service in cardiff!
18/01/2017: Visited Mowglis for a birthday celebration with friends. Food, service and atmosphere were fantastic and will definitely be returning in the future.

Falafel Kitchen

Cathays, Cardiff, <20£
20/12/2016: After deciding to try out Falafel Kitchen on a whim I was really taken with this cosy little cafe. The staff were really friendly and assisted us with some falafel and hummus while we were dithering about what to order. I convinced my friend to share the mega mezze (points for alliteration). As you can see from the picture all the components come up twice with some really beautiful olive oil in the middle. Everything on the plate was delicious and really filling. Had I been able to spare the entire afternoon I would have stayed here slowly working my way through the rest of the hummus. Maybe next time. Staff were really friendly and the place was really relaxed and welcoming and informal. A new favourite.
02/12/2016: Best salads, amazing hummus and fresh homemade pitta bread. Chicken schwarma is delicious as is the falafel. Lovely owners, chips are also great. Can't recommend enough.

Cafe du chat noir ltd

Cathays, Cardiff
15/01/2017: This was the first time that I had been to this bistro. The greasy spoon cafe before it was our traditional pre 6 nation breakfast tradition....it just was! So there were 5 of us on Saturday evening on the 14th January 2017. First thing for good was that the menu was not endless. It had a good selection but not so much that required a microwave rather than any skill. We were welcomed by the French owner. She was a lovely host. And the lovely Welsh chef was really great fun too but boy did he know what he was doing. We ordered across the menu and friends had lamb shank (fab) fillet beef Wellington (fab fab) and sea bass risotto (fab fab). I have always pined after a simple but traditional french onion soup. And this one was hot, brimming with beef stock and loads of really soft, tender onions. It came with two slices of baguette with lovely melted cheese not far away from a rarebit. (Fab, fab, fab). Perfect for those early mornings in the Parisian fish markets had the local Roath residents turned their noses up at such good, basic fare. For my mains I had moules mariniere. The sauce was lovely and the mussels bountiful and perfectly cooked. Don't get me wrong, I don't buy into the 'there was mountains of food' as if that were a badge of honour. But it was a fantastic main course and lots of it. We had two bottles of wine between us all and with deserts it came to £30 each with a tip. So great value too and many opportunities to make it cheaper still. The lovely thing about this bistro is that I also really fancied the Wellington. And the lamb shank. And the sea bass and seafood risotto. And that's before the bits that had sold out. Definitely coming back. Can't believe we have such an independent gem so close to home.
07/01/2017: Cafe du chat is a hidden little gem. From the moment you walk in till the time you leave, you won't be disappointed. Always pleasantly greeted by the chef and waiter/waitress, and always well looked after. The food is fantastic and very generously portioned. Brioche with breakfast - yum! They have a great tea selection too. If you were on holiday, this would be your perfect find "off the beaten track".

Saray Restaurant

Plasnewydd, Cardiff
17/01/2017: I fell in love with this place, and go there with my friends all the time...Amazing food, reasonable prices and really nice and helpful staff.Menu is versatile and fresh..defo recomend this place
14/01/2017: We were going to go to our usual, Lilo's, but thought we'd try Saray on the recommendation of a Turkish friend. I'm so glad we did...it was delicious! We were given complimentary bread, olives, tzaziki & salsa whilst waiting for drinks which was a nice touch. I then had the cold aubergine, potato & pepper starter which was amazing, then the meat moussaka as a main which was equally delicious. My partner had the Turkish-style 'pizza' to start (which I was dubious of as I'm Italian lol but which was yummy), and then the lamb mixed grill as a main which she said was really good quality. We were given complimentary baklava...mmmm...and we shared an amazing dessert of melted cheese-filled filo with pistachio and honey. Definitely worth trying. I only wish I could have had the Turkish coffee like my partner but I wouldn't have slept. Please do a caffeine-free version! All came to a reasonable £39 and it was well worth it. We'll definitely be back soon! Thank you :)

The Hellenic Eatery

Cathays, Cardiff
16/01/2017: Upon entering we were greeted quickly and sat at a table. The menu is very extensive and has a good range of traditional foods. My friend had gyros while I shared the Hellenic platter with my boyfriend. We also had Zucchini fritters with the freshest tzatziki outside of Greece. The food tasted amazing and authentic and completely worth every penny. Also you should try the espresso it is sublime. I would encourage everyone to come here as it is a real gem in the city.
15/01/2017: We went here on a whim last night as we got hungry late, had a comfortable table for 3 with quick service and good food quickly. Could have stayed for much longer as the live music was great. Wonderful gyros, staff and atmosphere

La Mangiatoia

Riverside, Cardiff, <20£
01/01/2017: The most amazing, authentic, home made Italian food I've had outside of Italy! Also, ridiculously cheap!!! The owner is the nicest, most hard working guy!
16/12/2016: As the next guy progressed, the small restaurant gradually filled with cooking smoke which irritated my eyes. The chef (a lovely guy) opened the front door to help this but it didn't help much and served to introduced a cold draught! The started and main course were tasty enough, though not special, although the tray-bake tiramisu was disappointing.
