Chai Street

Gabalfa, Cardiff, <20£
23/02/2017: Was extremely busy for a weekday, but still managed to get a table after a short wait which was good. Staff were lovely and attentive. I went for the fish thali, but the daal was a bit too lemon flavoured and the fish curry slightly bitter. The vegetarian curry in the thali was lovely and the chickpea option my mother got was lovely - would definitely recommend. Worth a try as the atmosphere is completely different in comparison to your usual Indian restaurant with the street food theme and decor.
19/02/2017: Visited Chai St a few times. Can't fault the food, great value for money also which is a bonus! Absolutely delicious and excellent quality. Service is spot on and super friendly. Lovely and unique restaurant - there's nowhere else in Cardiff quite like it!

Cafe Citta

Cathays, Cardiff
24/02/2017: Cafe Citta is one of Cardiff's little gems. The food is excellent and interesting and it's good value. It's very popular these days so it's worth trying to get a booking.
24/02/2017: Frankly, I don't really understand the hype this restaurant has attracted. The food is good but not exceptional. I came here for early evening dinner with a friend and his son.Service was prompt. We all had starters - I had the Caprese, which was tasty. My friend had some olives which were very large with large stones, which made them difficult to negotiate........My main was tagliatelle with mushrooms and prawns - unfortunately somewhat over-cooked. The meal was reasonably priced, but I wouldn't recommend this place for a special occasion.

Anatonis

Cyncoed, Cardiff, <20£
25/02/2017: We were really excited to eat here as the reviews were so positive. However the experience was just rather average. The bread tasted a little stale and there was too much balsamic vinegar in the dish and not enough olive oil. The veal main course tasted very ordinary and was quite expensive for the size of the dish. Pizza and pasta dishes were tasty as was the starter of tomato, avocado and mozzarella.
24/02/2017: Went here for Thursday date night. After trying the majority of Italian restaurants in Cardiff we tried this for the first time. The waitress was friendly and attentive. The smell was amazing and the food was top notch!!! We shared the antipasto, I had seabass and my partner had the napula pizza - both were amazing and tasty and presented lovely too. For dessert we had a cream and patisserie layered cake which was also very nice. The only negatives I have are I think it needs a bit more colour around and the seats would be better if they were facing side wall to side wall rather than front to back because my partner was looking at the nice flamed oven and I was looking out at teens circling bikes outside and looking through the window. We had different dining experiences because of it. I would definitely return :)

Gwaelod y Garth Inn

Pentyrch, Cardiff, <20£
23/02/2017: Went to the Gwaelod for my wife's 60th and what a birthday treat it was. There were 13 of us and every one agreed the food was excellent and the same can be said about the service. It certainly made her night as family had travelled from Wiltshire, Northampton and Cornwall and they certainly were not disappointed. Thank you Gwaelod for a fabulous evening.
19/02/2017: Came for a Sunday lunch with family and 2 large muddy dogs after a blustery very wet walk in the garth. Arrived cold wet and hungry. They let us bring the dogs despite they were wet and muddy. my roast chicken dinner arrived and it was what I'd been dreaming of, very generous portions, delicious veg, lots of gravy, very tender chicken and loads of it... it was the best I've ever had outside the home. Pudding (fruit crumble) also delicious. Servers were lovely and knowledgeable, suggesting GF ways to have deserts. food came in good amounts of time not too fast and not slow, I always hate it when food comes out way too fast. Only slight downside we were in some sort of lower-ground celler bit and it was a bit chilly in there.Wonderful place

New York Deli

Cathays, Cardiff
24/02/2017: Another order for work that was a really good shout. The ingredients were fresh and for a picky eater like myself the order was perfect. From past experience I know how huge these portions can be from here, so I ordered a plain bagel with ham and lashings of french mustard. It was spot on. Will happily order from here again and I may one day actually pop into the Deli and have an eat in meal. Thanks guys, no one was disappointed.
22/02/2017: great food and drink its very much a eat and go place but the food is very tasty and i love the Whitehouse roll its spanking.

Purple Poppadom

Riverside, Cardiff, 45-60£
24/02/2017: Great find, unusual indian food, really really tasty, good service, i had sea bass as most pics show, it was gorgeous, chicken in three different guises for a starter, great reports from everyone i know who has been, its a must,
21/02/2017: Four of us visited on a busy Friday evening. We all chose the taster menu and were completely amazed. Every detail was superb. I have eaten in around 12 Michelin starred restaurants in the UK alone and 3 of those were Indian (London). This restaurant could easily stand up alongside the best of those. The balance of courses, portion size, and exquisite presentation, all shouted class, but to get it all out, hot, at ideal intervals, when clearly very busy was a feat in itself. Given the complexity of what is on offer, and outstanding delivery, this restaurant is most definitely the finest value fine dining I've found. Outstanding.

Falafel Kitchen

Cathays, Cardiff, <20£
22/01/2017: A small and friendly quaint little hideaway, with very tasty fresh food, made with love.. The service is spot on, honest and welcoming and the ambiance is calming and cosy.. It's a fuss free menu and everything we saw we could have ordered ourselves. I liked this place, it's hit the spot. I'll be back. Give it a go.
20/12/2016: After deciding to try out Falafel Kitchen on a whim I was really taken with this cosy little cafe. The staff were really friendly and assisted us with some falafel and hummus while we were dithering about what to order. I convinced my friend to share the mega mezze (points for alliteration). As you can see from the picture all the components come up twice with some really beautiful olive oil in the middle. Everything on the plate was delicious and really filling. Had I been able to spare the entire afternoon I would have stayed here slowly working my way through the rest of the hummus. Maybe next time. Staff were really friendly and the place was really relaxed and welcoming and informal. A new favourite.

Madame Fromage

Cathays, Cardiff
17/02/2017: We were bought an evening for two as a Christmas gift, and it was for the Valentine's Taster Evening. What a lovely and pleasant surprise this evening was. We were greeted with bubbly and nibble son arrival. We were then sat at a table with a tasting plate of various wines, cheeses and pates. There was then the dinner and desert and bottle of wine between us. All the food was delicious, the service was great. The cheeses were to die for. It was a fun evening with a quiz thrown in, and I would advise booking for a taster evening as soon as you can.

La Mangiatoia

Riverside, Cardiff, <20£
15/02/2017: The food is excellent, and great value given the portion sizes! The chef is probably the friendliest host I've encountered in Cardiff. Having visited several times now, I can attest that the quality of food and welcome has never been short of excellent. I would recommend to anyone to take the short walk out of the city centre, it's well worth it.
09/02/2017: ALESSANDRO IS THE MAN everything about the place is amazing................Fantastic attention to detail and a wonderful atmosphere..........this place is the best..............
