Atholl Hotel Restaurant in Aberdeen City

This is a firm favourite of my in-laws who are in their 80s. My father in-law is coeliac so needs gluten free and there is plenty of options on the menu, in fact his fish and chips were amazing, the portions are always big. We were in the bar on a Friday evening and it was relaxed and busy. The staff are always exceptional.

My sister and I thoroughly enjoyed our lunch today, the turkey was cooked to perfection, the hotel was very busy the staff coped admirably. This is a lovely traditional hotel which we are fortunate to have in Aberdeen altogether it is wonderful.

Can't go wrong at the Atholl! Always guaranteed a friendly welcome and fine food.

Three weeks now for Sunday lunch whoever is in the kitchen they need to make sure he never leaves the food was amazing knocked it out the park service is good manager is excellent few members of staff a bit lax but if you want good home cooked food it’s the place for you

Went for a catch up with old workmates. Food was excellent and good selection. Staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful Will definitely be back.

Useful for the training course I was on. Didn't eat there so can't say what it was like but really nice atmosphere.

An outstanding hotel that sits in a deluxe location. I very much enjoyed my stay. My dinner at the in-house restaurant was an embodiment of perfection. The staff were clearly well-trained, courteous, and helpful. I highly recommend this exquisite establishment.

Lovely meals rather expensive though good service and atmosphere

Held up by roadworks - arrived at the Hotel at 2.05 pm (Wed) for Lunch, Sorry sir, the kitchen is closed! Quite surprised, its supposed to be a Hotel and they close the kitchen at 2pm! Left hungry to find a Hotel that doesn't close the kitchen at 2pm.

so refreshing to have home cooked food with fresh ingredients at a reasonable price. I didn't bother going anywhere else, why, what's the point

Lovely well cooked food from a very varied menu. Helpings are huge! Breakfasts are the Attholl cooked breakfast. You don't have space for lunch are that.

A family member and I visited here for dinner. It's a traditional Scottish hotel and restaurant. The menu is also somewhat traditional, and was appetising. The beef was a little more cooked than we would have liked, but it was good quality. I would definitely eat here again when I next visit Aberdeen.

Went for lunch, having checked the menu online prior to booking. The person I was with chose the venue, purely based on the menu as they wanted to have either a steak or some venison, and both were showing on a menu on the website entitled 'Lunch/dinner'. On arrival, following the covid briefing, we were led to a table which had been cleared after the previous diners had left, but it had not been cleaned, and we had to actually ask somebody to clean in. The person I was dining with asked about steak/venison and was informed that these were only available for dinner in the evening, not for lunch. We queried why they were shown on the website as being available for both. The lady waiting on us went away to check and came back to say that they would do it, but it would be pan fried and not grilled as the grill wasn't on. This was acceptable to my dining buddy. I had queried what came with the fish cake ie chips, etc and was told just salad. I ordered it with an additional side of chips. When the food arrived, the steak was excellent. My dining partner has travelled the world and has been back in Aberdeen for around 3 years. He said that it was the best steak he had anywhere in the area, if not the entire UK. The fish cake, however, was a different kettle of fish (excuse the pun). A large dinner plate arrived with one fishcake, half a lemon and a spoonfull of green sticks. I wasn't familiar with samphire before, but I certainly am now. The waitress had told me the fishcake came with salad, so I was expecting lettuce, tomato, etc. Instead, I got a spoonfull of what I assume was steamed samphire. I found it to be unedible, despite trying my best to chew it. So that would have left me with just a fishcake - certainly not worth just shy of £10. I was glad that I had ordered a side of chips. The total bill for these 2 dishes, a pint of coke, 2 sparkling waters and one coffee was about £50. Whilst there was a steak in the mix, it seems excessive - especially taking into account what was provided for the fishcake meal. I have dined here many times in the past, and always thought it on the slightly pricy side, but the quality of the food and the portion sizes made up a little for the higher prices. Therefor this visit was disapointing. It was a shame as the steak was good.

Went here for a meal. Staff were very friendly. Food was excellent and such a lot of choice on the menu. Big portions on our plates. Plenty of sanitizing in place. Will certainly be back

What a pleasure visiting here. Covid safe system in place. Good menu lots of choice. First class service and a lovely meal. Looking forward to a return visit.

Lovely staff, so clean and Covid friendly with great cosy outdoor seating, calming atmosphere and a fab Whiskey menu.

Lunch today was a delightful escape from most of the horrors of covid. The staff went out of their way to welcome us and to make all the restrictions manageable. The food was as good as always and portions still assume you have been working in the fields since first light. The establishment and its fine staff richly deserve to weather this storm - I have been eating here for 40 years and hope there are a few more decades left!

Finally got round to ordering from the Atholl’s great takeaway menu. Everything was perfect and piping hot. Treat yourself!

from breakfast to meals all day or snacks all very well presented hot plates when appropriate and scrumptious food and desserts

Enjoyed a delicious meal and a lovely bottle of fizz in The Atholl. Same traditional high quality home cooking as it’s always been renowned for and all COVID-19 precautions in place to make it feel very safe. Very pleasant staff and a thoroughly good experience all in all! We’ll be back for sure!

Visited for lunch. Excellent service in beautiful surroundings. The meals arrived very quickly and were beautifully presented. I had the chicken and my wife, the beef. The portions were huge and the ingredients of the highest quality. Everything was cooked to perfection. Quite an expensive place but perfection doesn’t come cheap. Would highly recommend!

Una vez más, las tres 'damas que almuerzan' decidimos regresar al Atholl.Nos encanta el ambiente agradable, el personal encantador, pero especialmente la súper comida.Desafortunadamente, uno de nuestros números no llegó, ya que fue retenida en la Clínica de Fractura, por lo que éramos dos en esta ocasión.Como siempre, el restaurante estaba bastante lleno, un lugar tan popular para el almuerzo.Tuvimos una bonita mesa tranquila en la parte de atrás, aunque junto a una fiesta de 13/14 mujeres, pero no eran nada ruidosas.Elegí el pollo cajún con ensalada, y mi amigo tenía el pastel de carne. El pollo cajún era particularmente picante y caliente, lo que me gusta, pero podría haber sorprendido a algunos comensales. El pastel de carne estaba lleno de carne de res y deliciosa salsa, pero algunas verduras más que lo acompañaban no habrían salido mal.Los dos terminamos con un café con leche. Nuestra factura con propina fue de 17 cada uno.El servicio fue impecable como siempre por todas las camareras realmente agradables y impecables.El Atholl nunca decepciona.

Me gustaría felicitar a Gordon, Lee y al equipo del Atholl Hotel por hacer de la ocasión del 80 cumpleaños de mi madre una noche tan especial. La comida y el servicio eran impecables y nada era un problema. Los filetes estaban hechos a la perfección y cada otro plato ordenado estaba muy bien preparado y presentado. Todo el personal que trabajaba en la noche era profesional y amable y, como resultado, no tengo ningún problema en recomendarle el Atholl para su ocasión especial, función, almuerzo o cena.

Very good food, freshly prepared. Very good value. Friendly service. The dining room and bar is very poplar with local people.

The Atholl Hotel restaurant in the west end of Aberdeen city has a great reputation and after a vist with family recently their reputation remains in place. We were warmly welcomed and placed directly to our reserved table of four. The restaurant was busy when we arrived and it is highly recommended to book in advance even during a week day.They have an extensive diner menu, including tradional scottish fair. The bar next to the resturant is the main bar of the hotel and is always popular with regulars and visitors alike.Drink orders were taken efficiently, although were we a guest down they were quick to react when our final family member arrived some 15-mins later.The order for food was taken briskly when we had decided what we wanted. Our order comprised of their roast Buchan Chicken; Atholl Chicken Currry and 2 x portions of deep fried North sea Haddock and clean plates all around.

As usual had a great evening at the Atholl. Super food brilliant service and a real buzz about the hotel. It has never let us down.

We fined at the Atholl restaurant multiple times while we stayed at the Atholl hotel. The service was flawless and the meals were excellent! Steaks were cooked perfectly, and the Roast Buchan Chicken is recommended. Try the Knickerbocker Glory!!

A last minute visit for lunch. Excellent lunch, tasty food, good selection, great efficient and polite service. Highly recommended.

Delicious soup and grilled entre cote followed by tasty dessert which made me feel quite guilty about calories, but all very nice, with good service. Wine menu is modest but good enough to satisfy the taste.

While staying at this hotel we enjoyed the good complimentary full breakfasts. We also had a very good dinner there on our anniversary & rec'd a complimentary bottle of wine & dessert truffles! Thank you again for your thoughtfulness.

Had a very pleasant lunch with some good friends again, a good menu of traditional pub food, i had my usual a mixed meat salad, along with a bowl of chips to compensate !

Have been to the Atholl a few times now, there is not one thing I can fault. All the staff are friendly, helpful and go above and beyond to make sure you enjoy your visit

Dropped in for lunch before visiting relatives in hospital. The welcome we received on arrival warmed our hearts, big smiles and friendly manner. The staff made us feel like family showing us to a table and engaging in friendly banter. There was a light lunch on offer but also a wide menu for larger appetites. What took my eye from the first glance at the menu was ox cheek with horseradish mash....I could not resist and was not disappointed. Would thoroughly recommend this place. Wonderful staff, divine food and great atmosphere.

We ate here as we were staying the night in the hotel and were surprised how much we enjoyed the food which was reasonably priced. The waiting staff were attendant, polite, helpful but not pushy. If I am every visiting in this area again I would certainly plan to eat at the Atholl Hotel again.

The Atholl is an Aberdeen institution. On a Monday night the bar and restaurant were buzzing and it's a fair bet that most of the clientele were regulars. Service is smooth and friendly. Portions are generous and you can see why patrons often order half portions. It's mainly a traditional menu with all the usual favourites but I had the ox cheeks - a delicious melt in the mouth choice.

Severe diarrhoea shortly after meal of smoked salmon and prawns. Suggests all is not well in the kitchen. The smoked salmon looked "off" and was either out of date or contaminated. I only drank bottled water. Therefore I believe it was the seafood.

Fabulous service,,,,, 6 of us from 95 to 15, the staff couldn’t do enough to help. Large, varied menu, something to suit everyone.

This is a very traditional almost quaintly old fashioned hotel in Aberdeen with a slightly, erm, older clientele.

This is a long established hotel retruant the food is homley and seasonal ( lovely Xmas dinnerd) the staf are so helpfull and nothing is two much good selection at the bar to suite all tastes and has a relaxed atmospher.

I had a group of 16 in to the Atholl for lunch and we had a lovely time with good food and excellent service. Prices reasonable.

Booked for a graduation lunch. There were four of use there. We were shown to a table at the window lovely area plenty of room.Ordered drinks two menus to pick from so two of us has the festive set menu and two had the standard menu. Starters we had were a fruit platter,scotch broth and two had the prawn platter. We all enjoyed them really good. Then the mains two had the battered haddock and the other two had the xmas beef and xmas vegetarian wellington. Everyone cleared there plates delicious. DESSERT next two had ice creams one had the xmas profiteroles and one had xmas creme brulee everyone agreed very good. Then to finish teas coffee with mints and fudge. We had a lovely afternoon there. Staff were brilliant very attentive couldn't fault them. We would highly recommend the Atholl Hotel Restaurant. We will definitely be back.

Nos reunimos con un amigo en Aberdeen y él sugirió el Atholl. Lo encontramos en el bar y luego en el restaurante. A pesar de que era miércoles estaba muy ocupado en el bar y restaurante con numerosos grupos almorzando. La comida del bar se veía genial y no nos podemos quejar de la comida en el restaurante.

Visité aquí para reunirse con un amigo para almorzar, que visita regularmente, lugar ocupado al entrar, amable bienvenida por parte del personal, tomamos una bebida antes de que llegara nuestro amigo y la zona del bar se llenó rápidamente de clientes, llevados al restaurante, ordenamos plato de mariscos, pollo piri piri y un sándwich, toda la comida estaba recién hecha y muy sabrosa, nuevamente el restaurante se llenó rápidamente, tuvimos un almuerzo agradable y recomendaríamos una visita aquí

Tuvimos una muy mala experiencia con el hotel que elegimos para tomar un refrigerio después del funeral de mi padre, y cuando mi madre murió, visitamos otros lugares antes de decidirnos por el Atholl Hotel.

Second visit to this spacious dining area didn’t disappoint , very attentive and friendly staff dealt quickly with our order. Generous home cooked portions, well presented, and piping hot. Bonus of this hotel is there is ample parking behind hotel.

Excellent choice of menu. Quality of my chosen dish was very good. My only 'complaint' would be that, for me, the portions of food were too big.

The food is good, the service excellent, the portions huge. It’s the same menu as it was about 15 years ago, nothing fancy! They seem pretty clued up on allergies and there were several gf choices.

I booked a family party for my mum's 70th. The Atholl managed to fit us all in their smaller function room as some of the guests were wee. I really appreciated them making the effort for this and opening the adjacent bar as it wasnt booled.

The restaurant serves traditional british grub - but aimed at a more beige style senior clientele (think cold ham salads and skirley). Food is always a good standard, waiting staff are excellent and thoughtful. Prices seem steep for what is essentially mince and tatties (+£15). Really impressed with the sticky toffee pudding - contains dates (as it should do!) and lots of butterscotch sauce. Loads of free parking.

We were a group of ladies. Menu had plenty of choice with lots of traditional dishes like roast chicken and skirlie, scampi, fish and chips. Helpings are generous but half portions are available.Clientele tends to be elderly or family groups. Staff are welcoming and helpful.This is a popular venue and it pays to book ahead. People tend to eat early here and by 9.30 it was very quiet.

Busy Wednesday night 6 people. We did not book and were shown to a nice table after a short wait. The traditional Scottish food was well cooked and plentiful. We enjoyed banter with the staff. Plenty of parking.

The Atholl continues to deliver well on British classics. And, especially when there’s a nip in the Aberdeen air, what’s better than a warming plate of sausage and mash or a Sunday roast with all the trimmings? We went for fish and chips last time...

We love the Atholl Hotel and Restaurant. It beautifully presents an atmosphere of welcome for residents and visitors and staff members who really look after you, and nothing is a bother. It is a busy restaurant and bar lounge where the tempting menu has so much selection, with emphasis on using local produce and suppliers. Atholl favourites are dishes which we're tried many times, but with such a varied menu, you can sample food which cater for all tastes. What we like is that smaller portions from the menu can be ordered, which suits our needs as we cannot eat as much as we used to. The food is prepared to order and we like the Buchan Chicken dish (a local favourite), as well as the Haddock dish, either battered or breaded, another favourite is the mince, tatties and skirlie! But anything from the menu is worth tasting although we stick to 'our' favourites. Even when the restaurant and bar lounge is busy with food being served, it is a lovely place to meet and eat, and know that the staff are looking after every diner. There is nothing that I have ever disliked about the Atholl, its food, its welcome, its staff. Brilliant, in our opinion.

The Atholl has succeeded in introducing an improved range of menu items whilst wisely retaining the 'old favourites', even making incremental changes to these without losing their character. The Atholl certainly isn't dull, but it's predictability is one of its endearing qualities.

We go here regularly and always enjoy the food and the service. Also we go for Christmas Dinner every year and are never disappointed. One of the last decent places with quality old school management style which modern day restaurants no longer have ! Highly recommend

I had not been here for several years but it will not be as long until I return next time. Staff friendliness was evident from the first moment we booked by telephone to arriving early - nothing was too much trouble. I visited on a Sunday lunchtime with my elderly parents and ate in the bar area rather than the formal dining area - this was beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. Parking is plentiful and the hotel is accessible to those in wheelchairs. The menu was extensive and covered everything form the normal items to those a little more unusual. Half portions are available and staff went out of their way to help on choices. Food was of a very high standard and well presented. We were all very pleasantly surprised. Most of the clientele are a little older but there is something to suit everyone on the menu. Thoroughly recommend and I will be returning soon.

There is a huge choice of food , all of which is excellent. The service is very attentive and friendly too. Would definitely recommend to anyone .

we went for a lunch on a Saturday , it was a very nice menu, and covered all tastesand we met some friends, and had a wonderful time, my husband and I used to go every Friday night tea time , the service is second to none and the food is of highest quality, and cater to all your needs

Went to a function here, the staff are very attentive, the menu was surprisingly good, choice of 4 starters and 4 mains, served hot and well presented. If anything my criticism would be not to serve such a large chicken breast as it was quite off putting.

I seem to be at the Atholl a lot these days, and why not? - when it is consistently good. We had dinner there with friends on a Saturday night. I had booked ahead, and just as well, as it was busy, with all tables taken.For starters my husband and I both had the Haggis Balls which are delicious, and very filling, with a lovely Drambuie sauce.My friend and I both had the ‘special’ of Salmon in Filo Pastry. There is an extensive menu, and always plenty specials options too. My husband had the Slow cooked featherblade of Beef – SO tender. The other gent opted for the Pork Loin Chops. My husband and my friend had another pick from the specials menu for dessert - the Raspberry & White Chocolate Roulade. They both raved about how good it was.The guys - not driving - enjoyed a bottle of wine, and a nightcap each too, and nobody was rushing us to leave.We love the terrific service and the homely relaxed atmosphere, a slight step back in time, but just as we like it. Never disappointed at the Atholl, and we've been going there since 1970!

I visited this restaurant with family members on a recent visit to Aberdeen. Everything about the evening was excellent. The staff were polite and professional, the food very good and the atmosphere superb. All in all a first class evening.

We've been coming to this place for years and it's consistently good. The menu is reassuringly familiar and the service always top notch. However, a couple of small quibbles about our most recent visit. Main courses don't now automatically come with vegetables. If I'd known this then I would have ordered some. Yes, the menu does say they are a side order but I just assumed wrongly they were included. Also, the food does arrive quite quickly, so obviously some meals are pre-prepared are reheated when ordered. I don't mind this as such, but it meant the two Atholl curries ordered were a bit cold. Of course, it's our fault we didn't send them back, but just something for the chefs to watch out for.

Having booked a table for Sunday lunch for my mother's birthday I had hopes that this would have been a pleasant lunch.Upon arrival we were squeezed into a small corner table with very little room for 5 adults- when booking I had asked for the restaurant but was told that the restaurant was closing at 2pm. So had to eat in the bar.The table was cramped and more annoyingly was that the restaurant throughout our visit was busy with other tables.WE arrived and waited over 15 minutes for any of the staff to attend to us - the bar staff were too occupied watching tv and chatting - the football appeared to be more attractive than serving customers.We finally got a drinks order after flagging the staff down several times (after being ignored several times).10 minutes later menu's arrived.We then ordered our food and the food was okay - the menu choice is very basic and boring and this hotel is a good option if you want to order a sunday roast but very little else. The food came - most of us had the roast chicken and it was bland. We then had to wait a considerable time for our plates to be removed.We tried again to order another drink but again bar staff were too busy amusing themselves. The 2 young men behind the bar were just not attentative nor did they provide any helpful service. The desert menu has even less choice and is extremely boring - not everyone wants sticky toffee pudding or ice cream - and honestly I was disappointed.We then waited some time for the staff to take any attention to us - and as a result - rahter than waiting longer to order coffee we had to personally go to the bar to get our bill.Overall - an oldie but a goodie hotel is being spoilt by inattentative staff.We weren't the only ones who were having issues getting anyone to attend to them or get an adequate level of customer service.I would suggest that the hotel hires another waiter or 2 to cover busy lunches and to update their menu's - we were never told if there were any specials.I personally would not recommend this hotel which is a shame as the food is okay (has been better in the past) - but the service really really let it down and I was disappointed as it was my mother's birthday.

Went in past for lunch and was greeted by friendly staff. The menu is more than enough with reasonable prices. The club sandwich was excellent. Two of us with drinks was £22. Easy parking and a welcoming atmosphere. Dinner is also recommended but remember to book as can be busy

The restaurant is five star with thee best sticky toffee pudding in the world and the Beer Battered Fish is awesome

Great lunch in this consistently good hotel. Lovely homemade classics with excellent service. As a local I have been here many times and have never been disappointed. Well done to the catering and service team!

Had a lovely bar lunch here. The homemade soup was delicious with a warm roll. The sticky toffee pudding was to die for.

Once again we three 'ladies who lunch' chose to return to the Atholl.We love the pleasant ambience, the lovely staff, but especially the super food. Having been told a large group of diners were arriving at 12.30pm when I phoned to book, we chose to meet at 12 noon. We also chose to sit just outside the restaurant, so we weren't disturbed from the large group chatting. These particular tables are not available to reserve, but if you're early enough you'll secure one.I chose Lasagne, one friend a half portion of the Mince & Tatties, and our other friend Salmon Fillet. Last time we'd visited I had had the salmon and loved it but found the accompanying fennel very tough, undercooked and inedible. I mentioned this to my friend and she asked the waiter to make sure it was cooked well. Sadly, it wasn't – just as tough as it had been a few months ago - so when she summoned the waiter he said chef could cook some more, but it would be 10 minutes or so. What was brought was much better, but it would be best if the fennel was cooked more in the first place. My Lasagne with Garlic bread was great, full of flavour. The half portion of mince was very generous indeed for a half portion, and very tasty with the skirlie. The service was faultless as ever, and we were very happy with our table away from what turned out to be two larger groups of diners.January diets meant we passed on the desserts. We'd 2 teas and a coca cola, and paid £17 each - great value for super food.

We ate here bc we were staying at the hotel, but the restaurant has a very good local reputation. The cab driver recommended it, and there were lots of locals there. They have good traditional Scottish food - we were there for Burns night - haggis and all that. But also had just good "regular" food - my roasted chicken and sautéed veggies were delicious. They have a good wine and spirits selection. Service was relatively attentive.

Nice menu with a wide choice of dishes, ideal for a long lunch with a group of friends. Some of the starters can be served as mains, but a starter size portion of chicken, bacon & leek terrine served with a side order of sweet potato chips proved quite filling, only just leaving room for a dessert of orange bread & butter pudding with chocolate sauce.Soft drinks were a bit expensive.

Chose to sit in the bar as the restaurant itself was empty, the bar was nice and busy.Food was nice albeit served very quickly, made me winder what is made to order. What we had was nice tho & I would go again.

the atholl did a lovely christmas lunch for myself and three friends. two had the turkey, i had the beef and one had the lasagne. all went down well and the wee sneaky glass of wine helped it all wash down lovely . would defintely book there again

We took children and grandchildren for a meal on the 28th December. The service and food was superb! It is not cheap, but a great place for occasions such as a family gathering.

Traditional Scottish food, they even offer half portions as some plates are very generous. Good selection of fresh fish too

This was a fantastic Christmas lunch. Now I don't often give five stars but really, starter, soup, mains and desserts all very good, and huge portions. Veggie options well thought through and executed beautifully. Very friendly, efficient staff...totally unobtrusive but always available. No painful entertainment or irritating background music. Even Santa's pressies for the kids looked well worth getting! Great job and great value. There is a reason they get booked up so early!

Don't go to the Atholl expecting cutting edge or nouvelle cuisine. It's homely, recognisable, well cooked plates of food. Decor is homely. Atmosphere is a little staid but friendly. Service is efficient. Clearly a well managed, privately owned establishment.

We popped in past the Atholl after hearing very good reports about it. Nearly didn't go in as car park was so full but glad we did. Lovely freshly cooked dishes quick and attentive service very pleasant experience, we will go back.

Table for 8 in centre of the restaurant, attentive&knowledgeable staff. Extensive menu, rib roast of beef highly recommended and the sticky toffee pudding - heavenly. Think it will be our family's first choice for future celebrations
