Ben Nevis Bar and Restaurant in Highland

We went to Ben Nevis restaurant to celebrate completing the WHW. From start to finish the staff and food we're great. Three off our party had the pies (one chicken and two steak) and disagree with comment below as we thought they were the best pies we had in a long time. Staff were very intentive and happy to help. We had asked them to organise a birthday cake and they brought this out and sang happy birthday. Totally recommend this place and will be back on my next visit to fort William

We popped in for a drink a few times on our weeks visit to Fort William. The place was warm & cosy, the staff were helpful & friendly especially Scott, a pleasure to meet.

We went here as a large group of 11 (including 2 children) after we had eloped in the mountains. Bride and groom were late due to the weather, and the staff were nothing but understanding. Nothing was too much trouble, food was tasty and quickly prepared and we were all impressed by the whisky knowledge from the staff. I did take a star off, as I really struggled to eat the haddock of my dish due to the sheer amount of bones, which ruined the experience of such a tasty meal otherwise. Would recommend a switch to fillet, to avoid this. Desserts were lovely, but the staff truly make this place.

Having known Fort William well and always enjoying good experiences when going out for food this was shocking. Namely the attitude of our server, whom I'm surprised hasn't been mentioned here before and I'm assuming is relatively new. My partner and I trailed down from the campsite into town through battering rain and threw ourselves inside to be greeted by a lady who had a constant look of disdain and didn't appear to know the language enough for us to have to repeat three times we were looking to have dinner not just drinks - which I assumed would be obvious considering we were standing in the restaurant area. She sat us down and eventually took a drinks order, my partner named and pointed to a beer on tap which she didn't understand either so he sighed and picked something else. She had a strong look of antipathy on her face throughout the whole evening which I could see other people notice and be bemused by as well during her service. Food was okay, wouldn't recommend the pies they are dry and lacking so value for money was almost zilch. Meanwhile this waitress continued to walk around texting on her phone looking utterly bored and disinterested in everything that was going on. Other servers were doing better but despite there being so many of them and the place being relatively quiet I couldn't see any check backs going on at any tables to ask how dinner was going. That's probably normal in a bar/restaurant like this but was just disappointing. Obviously, when the waitress in question came and slapped the bill down on our table I had no concerns taking off the 12.5% service charge and naturally didn't expect a response from her which there wasn't - she looked like she genuinely could not care any less. I held my tongue for the sake of my partner. Overall was really disheartening especially when people have made their way down there in that weather to have a nice night. In a place like that with majority tourists, you want your servers to be the face of Scottish hospitality and this lady made the whole evening dire. I would invest in better staff because as far as I could see nobody else was enjoying her depressing and indifferent vibe either. It didn't look like she was just having a bad day it looked like her whole demeanour. No thanks!

One of the best restaurants we've been to in Scotland, an adorable waiter, quantity and quality, thank you very much! to do!

We were here 2 nights in a row (also for the lack of other options since lots of places were closed or already full). The food was good, nothing great but definitely grateful for the vegan and vegetarian options. We also really liked the fish and chips - big portion as well. First night we felt a little scammed by the waitress. She brought the bill and didn’t point out to us that a service fee was already added to the bill. We added an additional 5£ as a tip since we didn’t see it until after we paid and she didn’t even say thank you. The second night we went, the waitress immediately pointed out that a service fee was added and that we were able to choose the original amount or the one with the added service fee or choose the tip ourselves. I think this is how service should be handled - with transparency. The host at the door was very friendly. It’s possible that you can’t get a table right away and are asked to wait in the bar just opposite of the restaurant. We did that the 2nd night. We only waited for 15 mins but unfortunately weren’t served the promised drinks.

The mussels are fresh and tasty and the portion is much larger than expected...the wait staff are excellent - very warm and friendly. The light bites menu has good options for kids too.

Ordered the seafood chowder and fish and chips. Seafood chowder had big chunks of fish which was good. But the chowder wasn’t as thick as I would like or what I thought chowder should be. Fish and chips was disappointing. Batter was crispy but the inside was kinda wet and the fish didn’t stick well to the batter.

Deliberated where to eat and trying to support local businesses instead of chains. Chose this place as it looked welcoming. 4 drinks, 3 cans of coke and a beer 4 of us eating steak pie and chips, bacon cheese burger and I ordered vegetable curry there were 2 options literally bites or main. £7.99 and £13.99 I’m presuming I got the £7.99 portion with a tiny pot of rice but charged the £13.99. Then with a 10% service charge on top cost £85! Ouch! Not blown away or convinced it was worth this price.

Had a fantastic day/night in here yesterday. Food was delicious. The bar man Scott was an absolute delight. So happy and eager to please everyone. He looked after us very well indeed. Beautiful surroundings and Scott is a diamond to have behind the bar.thanks again and look forward to returning to sample the great food and drink and warm hospitality on our next trip.

Lovely meals, nice waiting staff, decent prices. Would visit again when we’re in Fort William. They sometimes have bands playing in the evenings too.

Unfortunately the burger was very oily and the coleslaw could be improved.

I came here for a coffee, and the service was swift and very friendly. At the time, it wasn't super-busy, but there were about a dozen patrons. The atmosphere is nice, they have a great selection of beers and ales, and are conveniently located on the high-street. The windows in the rear have excellent views, and the whole decoration of the bar is spot-on. The two halves have their own distinct feel and mesh together. I will be back here before I return to London.

Nice place with lots of seats but the food was barely edible. The burgers don't even have a slice of tomato or a leaf of lettuce, but the fries aren't bad. Large selection of beers and whiskies. Fast staff.

Food was average - the bar was very busy on the Easter weekend and I had an impression that the food was reheated in a microwave. They were flexible with the seating arrangements which was great. They also tried to accommodate everyone who wanted to have food on this busy evening and served food until much later than other places. We felt rushed to pay the bill even though there was nobody else waiting for the table. Gentleman at the bar was friendly and explained different beer options. I have a feeling that our impression would be much better on the normal weekend, but on this occasion it's *** only mainly due to very average food and small local beer selection.

Popped in for a couple of drinks, a super friendly bar, man, and great local ales. A good, friendly atmosphere.

Very good Gluten Free options for coeliac. I would eat here again. A busy place but the service is spot on- polite and professional. You can eat in the restaurant or in the bar area. Nice atmosphere, there was some nice singing, a proper pub. They managed to quickly deal with a rowdy woman who was shouting and looking for attention, and her enabling friends who complained that the staff were unprofessional after she was asked to leave. In fact they could not have been more professional with these awful people.

Was in the Ben Nevis Bar for a meal and some drinks. Great food and service.

A gorgeous little pub with lovely waiting staff and delicious food! After scranning an entire packet of hobnobs on the journey from Iona to Fort William, we really weren’t in need of food, but after looking at the menu we couldn’t help ourselves… We ordered a few starters to share and, despite being delicious, we didn’t quite manage to finish the huge portions. Also lovely to find somewhere that has varied vegan options - such a breath of fresh air after a few days on rural Mull! Will 100% be back again 😁

Had a brilliant breakfast here, the coffee was really good. The pancakes were excellent, freshly made and a very generous portion. The staff were lovely and couldn't do enough for you, would definitely recommend.

The place had a cosy and lively atmosphere. Staff took excellent care of us and the food was great! My beef and venison pie was exceptional, and the selection of local gins available were excellent.

It says open until 11 p.m. and we arrived there at 8:30 p.m. and we were told: Closed......

Had a few wiskys on the back terrace in the sun, overlooking the Loch. It was lovely. Some smokers. After dinner inside but a tour group came in so was very noisy. No music as advertised. Meal was reasonable. Service good.

We visited for a few drinks with poppy our dog. Lovely cosy and friendly. Did not eat but the food looked fantastic. Good real ale and whisky selection. Will go back on next visit to area.

Highly recommend. Lovely food, staff friendly, good atmosphere. Photos on the walls are interesting to have a look at. Do yourself a favour and DITCH the other spoon chain pub just down the road serving the usualy dog food. Food is much better in here.

Good real ales. The staff are nice and friendly. When the peat fire is going in the winter, it's is realy cozy. Now this is just me. But when it's busy, it us realy noisy. Just the way sound resonates round the room. But I'm sensitive to these things. I usualy pop in for a, quite pint and a chat. But if you are just out fur a 'swally', then all good. The food is OK. Perhaps a notch above standard pub grub. Try the 80 shilling on draught. Hard to find it these days.

Good atmosphere, very nice server. The food is good but not amazing either. The places are pretty and well decorated. On the other hand, we did not include the costs on our receipt 🤔 which were billed to us obligatorily even though this is optional and at the customer's discretion (more than £8 all the same!)

Popped in after a recommendation in a nearby shop. This is a busy popular bar by the look of it. The dining room was full and lively. We ordered fish and chips which were really nice, especially the fish. Slightly lower rating given for service simply because we had to move tables twice due to food being served in different dining areas at different times of the day and I guess we arrived at cross over times. Otherwise all good.

Breakfast was 10/10 really great food and the staff were really friendly and accommodating totally faultless would highly recommend

Pub was nice, but very cold, it says outside real log fire, we went in , in February, log fire not on, no heating on, cold. Expensive so we went back to the local pub the crofters, warm , friendly, and cheaper. Wasn't impressed with nevis, maybe OK in summer but pricey too.

By far the worst meal me and my partner have ate in years. Walked in to the restaurant and not a single staff member to greet us. Stood idly until we decided to help ourselves to a seat. Once we had our menus and the gentleman took the order wrong 4 times? It’s not entirely difficult to understand 2 of the same main meal and 2 of the same drinks and a starter to share. When the starter arrived it was missing ingredients and when we highlighted it the server again looked extremely confused and after consulting the menu and his manager ended up having this waived from the bill. We were served 1 drink for 2 people albeit ordering 2 of the same drink… Wasn’t given any cutlery to eat our mains when it arrived and if you made it this far into the review well this is where the horrors truly begin. Myself and partner both ordered a bacon cheeseburger and it was vile. Like it made the Wetherspoons up the road seem enticing. We ended up ill most the night after eating it so my words to anyone reading this, please just avoid!

We visited the Ben Nevis Bar on a cold, wet February afternoon looking for a beer and something small to eat. We were warmly greeted by the best barmaid in Scotland. I didn’t catch her name but you will know her when you meet her! If you arrive depressed her friendly, happy demeanour will immediately cheer you up. A true Bonnie Wee Lassie, thanks for making our day! 🥰

Vi skulle lige have en drink. Det blev nogle øl, en cider, Fanta og en Irish Coffee. Den tog sin tid, men smagte godt. Fin udsigt til vand.

Basically greasy overpriced food no better than Wetherspoons £16.99 for a burger and fries £15 .99 for fish and chips next time I’ll go to Wetherspoons.

We came for dinner once and drinks a couple of times. The bar was lovely with a good selection of drinks and nice, cosy atmosphere. The dinner is a mixed review. My partner loved his fish and chips and thoroughly enjoyed his dinner. However, there was no vegan haggis which removed two options from the menu for me - the meat-free selections were poor. The vegan burger ended up being my only option and it felt tough and overcooked. At £17 it cost more than the fish and chips and was not super enjoyable. Overall, we felt the restaurant to be a little pricey. The staff were lovely across both bar and restaurant.

Visit one we sat in the bar area. I had the light bites fish and chips, really good portion and plenty on the plate. We also had the soup of the day and a venison burger. All very tasty. Visit two we sat in the restaurant overlooking the hills. The sweetcorn ribs are a delight and the mussels cooked to perfection. For mains we had the steak pie, venison pie and a baked potato with cheese and homemade coleslaw. Dessert was sticky toffee pudding and ice cream. All yummy Our server was a lovely man who chatted and made everyone feel very welcome as soon as they came through the door. He was very professional when dealing with a couple at another table who started arguing and caused a scene.

Great pub food, fabulous, friendly staff. Excellent choice of food and drink and fantastic service with a smile and chat. Would highly recommend if visiting the local area.

Book ahead as busy of an evening. Chicken & leak pie lovely, server was a lovely man. Husband enjoyed chatting about the malts on offer with bar tender and exchanged stories. We had a great experience here. Well done to the team.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Food was very tasty and a good portion size, the burger and fries would be perfect. However, the coleslaw on the wheel from the plate wasn't that good, it was missing everything, and I personally didn't need it. In terms of price, I have to say I ate very well considering Scottish standards. Ambience was very warm and inviting.

Stopped in to get out of the chill and have a late lunch. The barman was very friendly to me and several other out of town visitors who came in. I got the seafood chowder and it is a highlight of this trip and maybe some of the best I’ve ever had! Pop in if you’re in the area. They’re very knowledgeable on the local walks and attractions as well.

Excellent food, friendly staff and nice view out the window. Plenty of gluten free options on the menu for me. The GF seafood chowder and fish and chips are very good, partner had venison pie which smelt awesome.

Good scottish pub with live bands sometimes

A warm welcome, quality service, a very pleasant atmosphere with a small fire. We ate really well, the dishes were plentiful, nothing to complain about, it’s a must-see place in Fort Williams!

Lovely meal, 10/10 staff. Just needed some music on to give a wee bit more atmosphere! Otherwise best bar in fort William! We will be back again! X

A very cosy wee pub! Came out of the rain to find the fire roaring inside and a warm welcome from staff. Food menu is basic, but generous portions and excellent produce.

While passing through Fort William we had dinner here, nothing to say, we ate well! Impeccable service, and good beer! 🍻 The restaurant is beautiful, we have a good time there.

Had a lovely hot chocolate by the fire. I really enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere and the staff were friendly too. I honestly didn't want to leave. I didn't have time to try their food so can't comment.

What a warm and wonderful stop for lunch. The food was amazing. The service was friendly and fast. The fire was toast and the little bit of peet added to the ambiance. This would be a lovely bun to sit back and relax in after a day on Ben Nevis or just to catch up with friends !

Myself and my girlfriend had a fantastic dinner here. The tattie scone nachos and mussels were delicious to start and the fish and chips and steak pie were also lovely. Solid section of beer and whiskies too. The highlight of our visit was our server (according to the receipt he was called Scott) - he clearly loved his job and enjoyed interacting with everyone, his great service truly did make all the difference and he kept up his spirits despite serving the food to a busy bar all by himself! The atmosphere in the bar was very cosy but it did struggle with the -8 temperature outside so was a bit cold but understandable.

Substantial pub fair with a lovely view of the loch. Service was wonderful, and bar staff were able to offer great recommendations for drinks from the local regions. Pub IPA was also great.

We had a great time here, originally coming here for food and drinks at Hogmanay, before deciding to return the following night for food again. Scott and the rest of the team were very welcoming, and could not have done any more to accommodate us, despite them being exceptionally busy both nights. We will definitely be back.

£16 for a beer and a wine?? Over £11 for a glass of Shiraz! Won’t be back with those prices! Daylight robbery.

I would recommend this place if you are travelling through Fort William. The food was decent but some parts of our food were over cooked, but that tends to happen sometimes. We were standing at the entrance for quite a while before any of the staff members came to seat us, we didn't really know what to do other than wait. If you get a window seat the view is amazing and the interior of the restaurant is very warm and nice too.

I wish I was fatter! I loved every bite of my haggis neeps and tatties and venison burger. The seafood chowder was a dream I wish I could do back home. Lovely staff, beers great. I wanted proper Scottish food and I got it! Only gave it four stars for service because if busy can be a tad slow but who care in the grand scheme of life. We will be coming back when we book our next holiday to Scotland.

Super Pub. Die Qualität des Essens hat uns auch überrascht. Das Weihnachtsangebot mit 3 Gängen war super lecker, ausreichend/viel und preislich wirklich top! Der Service war auch super. Kleine Verzögerung beim Nachtisch wurde auf Nachfrage entschuldigt und sofort nachgeholt. Einige Gerichte können auch als vegetarisch/vegan geordert werden. Bier war lecker. Rundum ein gelungener Abend.

Food was excellent ,service from one older lady who was very rude and made a derogatory comment to my mrs was a disappointment she shouldn't be in the hospitality industry, but the manager dealt with her and couldn't have been anymore apologetic and our food and drinks were on the house.

Buen restaurante en la zona ya que sirve cena a partir de las 20:00, algo no muy común en la zona. La comida es muy abundante y deliciosa, destacamos el steak pie que estaba increíble. Servicio muy rápido y agradable.

Gluten free magic. Great service and food options. Dedicated fryer and delicious on tap cider. I'd go again. A bit pricey but understandable for the location.

The quality of the food was very disappointing, turkey was rubbery, vegetables had no flavour and some were burnt, fish and chips very oily. I wouldn't recommend.

Had dinner reservations. Was a busy evening. Staff was slammed. Didn’t matter staff was attentive and nice. Food was good. My party kept it light on the food but we very much enjoyed your long highland teas. I don’t suppose you would share that recipe ;)

Visited this place on Friday both for lunch and evening meal . We both liked this place and the staff on both visits were friendly , helpful and professional. Again both times the food was very good especially in the evening , the fish and...

Pranzato velocemente, pub tipico con arredamento caldo e caminetto acceso...servizio veloce e cibo molto buono e curato.

We were recommended this restaurant by our taxi driver taking us from Ben Nevis Holiday Park. We were really lucky to get the last table though. Amazing food! Quick service even though it was busy. Thoroughly recommend this as somewhere to eat in Fort William!

Having visited Fort William numerously and quite a few times in this restaurant when up for the Commando Remembrance weekend. It was great to visit again with my British Military Veteran family. Restaurant was only half open for some strange reason, but once we tucked...

Wir wurden herzlichen begrüßt und bewirtet. Jedoch haben die Kellner kaum was zur Karte erklärt, zum Beispiel was die Suppe des Tages ist. Das war in anderen Restaurants in Schottland Gang und Gebe. Das Ambiente war sehr angenehm und hatte schottischen Charme. Trotzdem wirkte es nicht wie ein traditioneller Pub, obwohl dies auf der Internetseite stand. Das Essen hat uns leider nicht geschmeckt. Die Fish and Chips trieften vor Fett und der Burger war „der schlechteste, den ich je gegessen habe“ so mein Freund. Die Getränkekarte war jedoch super. Fazit: als Bar gut, aber bestellt kein Essen.
