Bunsen in Belfast

I was presented with a burger that a trainee vet could have resuscitated with relative ease. Even the most militant of vegans couldn’t complain about this burger as I believe it still possessed a heart beat.

Over all vibe: I think the vibe of the establishment was confusing as it seemed like they had a base of fast food, your food comes very quickly but comes on a metal tray and the burger is wrapped in paper ans the chips in a cardboard box which gave fast food vibe but also had a mix of having a waiter, more of a dinning restaurant lay out which made it seem like it was trying to do two things. Food: The burger quality was very good, the patty was good quality, nice thickness without being too thick, the condiments on the burger were good. But since the burger was wrapped in paper the condensation made the buns mainly the bottom one quite soggy which wasn't the best and for the price your paying I would expect a more looked after bun. There are 3 types of chips, my friend had the sweet potato chips and said they were very good. I had the French fry chips and I found that the chips had an good crispy outside I found when I bit into it there wasn't really any potato so felt more like crisps rather than chips and found the the chips luke warm as well which is where I think the establishment for me looses a bit but may have just been the day I went. Overall I think it's a very nice burger and a great quality if burger apart from the bun, very limited menu that comes on a business card.

Stopped in after a walk around the city, the service was great and super welcoming. Bit of a no frills interior.. but it works. I had a burger with everything and sweet potato fries, zero complaints. Great burgers and cold beers... What more could you want.

Just had a takeaway from here. Delivery was prompt and the food was warm. The burger was delicious, not processed and cooked to perfection, so tasty. However, the chips, two bags, were not fit for human consumption. They were just bags of scraps, refried and burned to a crisp. It’s such a pity that they just couldn’t be consistent and send out a decent meal. I won’t be reordering.

Friendly staff and comfortable setting. Appreciated that they catered for gluten free diet. Standard burger - burger bun was too thick for my liking so bread to filling ratio was heavy on the bread side. Decent chips.

Simple burgers, nothing fancy,tomatoes, lettuce, gherkin, cheese. Skinny fires or chips, no cutlery, served on paper but wow .... the burgers are SO FRESH AND TASTY. Wine, Beer, Water or soft drink. Brilliant!

Busy sat night, needing food after shopping, called in place packed lovely waiter takes your mobile and texts when table free, he says stay close by its looking like a half hour wait but I will text ASAP, true to his word 20mins text comes. I love this place menu on a little card, 3 choices of burger 3 choices of fries, wine, beer, soda, milkshakes. Cheese burger sand thick cut fries arrive I beer 1 wine in 5 mins. Gorgeous loose patty style burger with trimmings. Great crispy home fries. All condiments on table, it's my thing but bottles spotless. Plus your burger comes in paper on a tray. £16 a head. Great value. This is great for all the family. The staff are so friendly and attentive. You then step out full and into a bustling Lively Belfast Sat night.

Walked past and checked reviews, was then recommend by a local. Very simple burgers, no super fancy toppings but the burgers are SO GOOD. Had the skinny fries and the sweet potato fries, both really good. Wish I lived in Belfast so I could go back!

Their menu maybe small but that’s because they’ve mastered what’s in it. They do the best burgers by far in all of Belfast. It goes well with their shoe string or sweet potato fries. Definitely worth a visit

This is a very well organised fast food outlet. We visited on a busy Saturday night, they couldn’t fit us in straight away but we gave our details and received a message 20minutes later to return. There are plenty of bars to visit while you wait for an available table. Burgers were good quality, and I was pleased to find they had gluten free buns. I would definitely recommend for a quick and reasonably priced bite to eat in Belfast.

Normally pretty good but today absolute rubbish. Ordered a cheeseburger dressed and this is what I got. Sure it’s a cheese burger dressed but there is not much of the salad stuff at all. Tomato only covers 1/4 of the burger and the lettuce wouldn’t feed a guinea pig. Really need to up their game to make me want to return. Plenty of other decent options around so on today’s effort it will be a while until I am back I think.

Great burgers, really tasty. Fries were great too. Just fresh tasting, good meat. Would recommend.

Nice traditional burger. Simple menu. The patties are thick so I don’t think a double is needed. It’s not in my top tier but will scratch a burger itch. Shoestring fries are a bit like maccers.

I had cheese burgers and handcut fries and i was disappointed with the taste to be honest. The patty was cooked well and juicy but for me it was unseasoned along with the fries. I can taste the bitterness from the fries which i believe might be from overused oil.

Great burgers and great atmosphere, was busy and buzzing. Gave us a bleeper to take to the pub across the street until our table was available. Milkshakes to die for. Decent range of alcohol.

Careful here. The waitress charged me £55 for £35 worth of food. I only realised when I'd already left.

No soy muy fan de la carne, pero debo decir que la carne de nuestras hamburguesas estaba muy buena. El menú es bastante reducido, por lo que pedir es bastante sencillo: hamburguesa simple, doble, con queso o sin queso. Cuidado al pedir patatas. Te ponen muchísimas. A nosotros nos sobró una cajita casi entera. Volveré a repetir.

The burgers were just really tasty. The menu is quite simple, but everything is customizable! It's a kind of 5 guys. I really recommend it. The sweet potato fries option is really a plus :)

Just a fantastic cheeseburger. Delicious and juicy. Every bite was a delight and the chips were spot on, too. Staff were friendly and attentive. The place is clean, modern and with a great vibe. Everything about this place is simple but done to perfection.

Definitely one of the best burgers I’ve ever tasted in my life, it’s very worth the value. The chips were crispy and well seasoned and the vanilla milkshake was amazing too. The staff and service was friendly and fast. This was my first experience at this restaurant and I will definitely be returning for another great lunch!

Juicy and absolute class burger, perfectly medium rare. The fries had a lot of "rests" but the burger was class ! Unfortunately no chance to charge my phone 🤳😜

Was looking forward to eating here, and went specially. But the experience made Mcdonalds look good. Yes, the burger meat was better quality and larger in quantity, but the burger or the cheese had an odd taste. The salad in the burger was on the bottom, soggy, warm and scarce. The hand cut fries were small bits of tasteless cardboard. Waitresses were undertrained and anxious. The restaurant has an echoey, canteen feel. Didn't finish the food, and left early.

No fuss, no frills, just a great standard of burger. Amongst the best in Belfast. Glad they have opened up on Botanic, will give tribal burger a run for their money.

Ordered one double cheese burger and one double hamburger with a side of fries. The burger was tasty, not the best I’ve had, but it definitely satisfied my craving for a juicy burger. I liked that the menu was small and straight to the point. Service was very good, staff were really nice and attentive although the restaurant was full.

Atmosphere is weird here, it's kinda fast food that's scaled up and trying to be sophisticated. I've had better burgers for cheaper. Probably wouldn't go back

First visit, the guy wearing the vest serving us was a bit abrupt and didn’t explain the the ordering very well, felt as though we were holding him back, wasn’t busy either. The food arrived fast enough and it was just ok. Expensive enough for what it is.

Disrespectful restaurant and they do not appreciate the delivery workers. The girl who wears eyeglasses must apologize to our driver friend, otherwise we swear that we will continue to report until further notice from our friend.

Glorified McDonald's burger if I'm totally honest. Nothing wrong with it but nothing really special. Burgers are my favourite food so I might be a bit harsh but when I bit into it I immediately thought of a McDonald's hamburger, the taste was fairly identical. Couldn't help but be a bit disappointed since I'd waited years to visit Bunsen after seeing so many good reviews. Just a really simple burger if that's your sort of thing, not sure how they built a restaurant chain out of it but fair play.

Recently I had a work lunch here. The burgers and fries were better than Five guys which I highly regard, and much better priced with good location and atmosphere.

Absolute Joke asked for fried onions was told couldn't do it in case of cross contamination so had to walk out if they can't fry an onion what chance for the £8.25 cheeseburger being any good. Visited Botanic branch

A great burger place. A very simple menu, lots of atmosphere. It was busy, so we had to wait around 20 min before we received a text telling us that our table was ready. When asked, they wrapped our burgers in lettuce leaves rather than having a bun. The service was friendly and efficient. A nice meal out.

No extensive menu, this place provides great quality, freshly prepared burgers. If you don't want a burger, don't come. If you love burgers and are in Belfast make sure you try this place! Friendly staff, industrial canteen style restaurant, drinks menu small but easily quaffable.

They dont have much choice. But twhat they do have is great. Good fast food option if you dont want to lose alot of time in restaurant.

This place was just okay. It was nicely decorated, clean, and had friendly, polite staff. Unfortunately, they only had one cider choice on the menu, and there wasn't any in stock when I was there. The food was just okay. For the price, I was expecting higher quality burgers. They were better than a fast food restaurant, but not a patch on somewhere like Gourmet Burger Kitchen. It was fine, but nothing special and I probably wouldn't return. It just depends what you're looking for, I guess.

This place absolutely slaps! Great chilled atmosphere. Lovely fast, friendly service. And most importantly amazing, simple food done to a very high standard. If you're after something comforting after a long day of travelling or at the office look no further. Grab a beer and a double cheese with some fries and feel your woes slip away.

Would you like the unique opportunity to have a bit of a moment with your food? We all would, of course - and some of us actually (though, unfortunately mostly foolishly) think we have, maybe once, maybe more than once in our lives. I came to Ireland expecting good food, no doubt - perhaps something with Lamb, or potatoes or both serving as the star to the dish. - what i didnt expect, coming from North America as i have, was to find the best smashburger of my life here, in an unassuming shop tucked off a main road. I guess thats why we do our best not to judge a book by ita cover. - I came in alone, and somehow had the best burger experience of my life - such that I will now go out of my way to find somebtime to go back before my time in this place is through. 100% must try - i dont give food places 5 stars lightly, but by golly youd be doing yourself a disservice if you did not give them a try. - you can thank me later. NOTE - not a lot (if any) veg options, and certainly nothing on the menu that is not a sandwich, fries, or a drink. So come hungry for burgers and burgers only. - cant fault them for a small menu when they absolutely serve perfection on a tray.

Excellent burger. No chicken, no happy meals, no bacon, no veggie, no chintzy burger names, no fuss. Just a beef burger - with or without cheese and a choice of toppings - and of course fries. It's a classic example of just doing one thing but doing it well... very well.

What a fantastic spot! Amazing food and fantastic prices. A culinary gem in a city which I found to have exorbitant and overly priced food costs. Belfast if you are going to charge these prices for meals-out at least match it with the quality. But fear not, Bunsen did just that and did it well, probably the best burger I’ve ever tasted! And a special shout-out to the awesome young guy in the Whitney Houston T-shirt and curly hair. Your service and attentiveness to a very busy door and bookings was fantastic and all done with an air of effortless coolness - bravo! Well done all, super impressed. Highly recommend!!!

The food was amazing. Even tho it's the smallest menu I have ever seen, it's definitely worth going there if you want a quality burger with fries. I ordered the sweet potato fries and I had to tell them they were the best sweet potato fries I ever had. Service was friendly and quick. The atmosphere was great as well. Don't really have anything negative to say!

Bunsen Burger is one of the best burgers I have ever had, and I know my burgers. Just come here, skip the fish and chips.

Have been a few times and the burger never disappoints. I always get a cheeseburger cooked medium and it comes perfectly cooked. I usually get the shoestring fries but this time got the hand cut. Bunsen has no thrills or spills, it’s easygoing with a nice atmosphere and the staff are friendly and straight forward. No big menu, it’s a burger, chips and a drink. If you are a veggie this may not be the place for you. I’ll defo be back. 😎
