I’m so sorry that this place has closed down! It’s been my go to for the last nine months after my return to Cardiff and has been by far my favourite spot in the area. Great service, wine and beer and open all day. How this place can be replaced I don’t know

A party of us decided to come here for our xmas meal. Some had pre-ordered food and some were ordering off the menu on the night.A nice choice of food was offered on both options. Ordering drinks was quite a prolonged affair as the guy serving us was so slow - 6 mins to sort 2 drinks ?? We think it may have been only a few days since he started work there, at least we hope so !! Drinks quite expensive but a wide choice and a good atmosphere. The 'slow theme' continued once we had taken our seats. From this point to getting our starters about an hour. But, when the food eventually arrived it was excellent in every way. All in all the place is ok and the food is great, so long as your not in any sort of hurry.

I visited this place tonight as was invited for a book review. This was held upstairs in the private dining room and bar. First it is easy to find but hard to find parking spot. The entrance is from the side. The place is quite tight. We ordered tea from the bar. It was nicely served in a tea pot. We just had tapas so I can not comment on a full menu but the tapas were delicious (risotto balls, roasted vegetables on toast and red pepper and cheese. I would though love to attend for a full meal.

The Cameo is one of three places I go for a quality Sunday lunch in South Glamorgan. The three course today didn’t disappoint and was a hearty meal. First up was leek and potato soup with lightly toasted baguettes. Full of flavour, the right temperature and good consistency. The main was roast lamb ( what else in the capital of Wales ). Served with mashed swede, roast potatoes, red cabbage and green beans. Also a Yorkshire pudding and delicious gravy. All washed down with a glass of Shiraz wine. Desert was the traditional sticky toffee pudding. Waitress staff Ash and Alice were a delight to chat with. I found them polite and courteous and a credit to the restaurant. Five stars.

Went for our daughters birthday with 10 or so friends, it was a very humid day... Place was clean and tables well laid out. Cold water brought straight to the table as we arrived... Waitresses took drinks order from the table or you could go up the bar. We ordered food just after 2 o clock but didn’t start eating till just after 3 as there was 11 people, we actually asked how long would it be. The food was tasty, huge Yorkshire puddings, we had lamb but it was thinly sliced but tender...roast potatoes weren’t crispy, others had beef and they also liked it. Extra gravy and cauliflower cheese was brought out separately which was loverly. Some people had starters which looked good. No toilets downstairs and being disabled was a problem for me. Waitresses were very helpful and polite.

I had a great night at Cameo but that was sadly despite the food rather than because of it. The bar's very cool, the cocktails were amazing and staff are great but the food was a real disappointment. The entire table was happy with their starters (I had a spicy parsnip soup which was really nice) but mains were a real mixed bag. I had venison sausages with a mustard mash, something which sounded great on the menu but was genuinely difficult to eat. The sausages were dry and tough while the mash was overloaded with mustard to the point where it was seriously acidic. The menu's not the most lavish, the choices are quite basic which is fine but if the menu's that simple you expect the food to be cooked well and that wasn't the case this time unfortunately. Others on the table also had disappointing mains. Still had a lovely evening, like I said the cocktails were superb, but probably won't be going here for food again.

I held a special big birthday party at The Cameo Club in Pontcanna. Downstairs there's an excellent bar and restaurant (open to non-members) with a great menu but upstairs there's a big room and bar for private hire. I found it so hard to find anywhere that was the right size for about 60 people which was also classy and not just a 'room above a pub' or a huge venue. Nothing was too much trouble for Tracy, Sarah, Alice, Cat and the rest of the team. Everything was p erfect on the night: the room looked beautiful, the playlist had been created for me and the buffet was absolutely lovely. Both the venue and buffet received many compliments from my friends. We danced until we couldn't dance anymore. Highly recommend it!

This place is fun. Not too stuffy with an almost French bistro feel ( in my opinion) we came here Saturday evening with some old friends for a catch up and some drinks. Reasonable prices for the area. Bar area was quite loud but next door in the dining area was fine. Ten pound per person deposit as rugby was on which was also fine . A lovely time was had by all - opted for the steak for main - very nice soup also for starter . Staff are friendly relaxed and attentive . No room for desert ! Thank you for another nice evening !

Has gone massively downhill in the past year or so. Needs a major shakeup. Visited on a Saturday for food which was okay but delivered with shocking service and for cocktails which were consistently watery and warm by the time they reached us, Arriving on average 15 minutes after ordering. We were one of 4 or 5 tables. Staff don't seem to have a care in the world and stand around chatting whilst patrons try to catch their eye for attention. Atmosphere after 11pm becomes threatening and bizarre as they seem to be letting anybody in these days, so unsure what people are paying their membership for. You can see this reflected as it has been getting quieter and quieter amongst the Pontcanna dwellers, who are turning their eyes elsewhere.

Four of us went for lunch on Tuesday 8 May and on first appearances it looked very nice. We had drinks whilst choosing our food and sat in comfy seats at foot of the stairs. Our nostrils were suddenly assailed by the most overpowering sickly smell of, what we assumed, was air freshener. Not sure if the toilets were at the top of the stairs or whether it was to mask the very strong smell of fish which permeated the whole place

Very disappointed with the so called valentines special. Prior to booking the meal we were told that the meal would cost £32 per couple. I also visited the restaurant prior to the night to collect the menu which also stated 14th February 2018 - 3 course meal £32 per couple as shown in the photo below. Upon arrival we were given the exact same menu to order from which further reinforced the supposed good deal. We had a complete shock when we went to pay - close to £75 with one drink each. Staff were adamant that the menu stated £32 per PERSON, and conveniently produced a new menu which stated per person at the top and not per couple. Staff weren’t particularly understanding or welcoming so unfortunately won’t be visiting again. Complete misrepresentation, and feels more like a con to draw people in. As a customer, I would have preferred to have been told the real price. The lack of honesty took the shine out of the night!

On arrival we were told we had to order within 20 minutes of our booking time or we'd have to wait a further two hours for our food to arrive (we booked this table 2 weeks in advance) due to a large group of 40 upstairs. The restaurant was relatively quiet. Despite this we complied and ordered within 7 minutes of sitting down. For starters, the soups of the day. For £4.95 we had 4 spoon scoops of soup and two slices of cold/small baguette. The bread tasted frozen and not fresh. £17.95 for the sirloin steak mains. Which had to be sent back as it was cold.£14.95 for a small mediocre chicken breast with a tea spoon of mashed potatoes and sauce. Small and not satisfying. As my partner had the chicken and I had the steak, she finished her meal within minutes of arrival, while I had to wait a further 10 for my steak to be reheated. It came back very dry, I'm presuming it had been microwaved. Obviously being very hungry after the first two courses, we had the sticky toffee desert, despite this arriving cold, the flavour was nice.We dined as a group of 7. Paid £240 for our meal (most of the alcohol was paid and ordered separately at the bar). We all left hungry, luckily we had sandwiches back home! Really disappointed with the the quantity/quality of food. Especially when you consider the cost. The restaurants atmosphere and decor is very nice, shame about the food.

This is the first review I have ever written but I have just experienced the worst meal of my life. I am referring to the Wellfield Road Restaurant which I visited this evening having previously enjoyed a good meal at the sister restaurant in Pontcanna. The service was dreadful. We had to ask three times for our drinks. The haddock risotto starter was stodgy but edible (apart from the fishbones). We were not informed that the main courses did not include vegetables or potatoes so my friend ended up with a pork chop in a glutinous sauce and nothing else (for only £20!). I had asked if my Beef Wellington came with chips and was told that these would be requested. I cut through the very pale pastry to find uncooked beef within which was disgusting and inedible. We returned 2 meals out of 4 but no one came to ask why we were dissatisfied and no apology was offered. The staff removed our plates and accepted our statement that we did not wish for a replacement without comment. When we received the bill they pointed out that they had not charged us for the two meals we had not eaten! They did however charge for the chips ordered with the Beef Wellington (which I confess I did eat as I was rather hungry!)All in all, a memorable meal for all the wrong reasons.

We were really excited when the Wellfield Road branch opened. I have visited twice - both times for lunch. The atmosphere is great but the service is disappointing. The staff are perfectly charming but they have not been trained well and another reviewer remarked that there doesn't seem to be any one front of house to meet and greet, which I noticed too. The first time I visited I had the smoked haddock risotto which was good.My husband had the moules mariniere which he felt was a bit heavy going for lunch time as it is very creamy. I ordered a sparkling water but they had run out of water which seemed a bit odd. The second time I visited I had the salmon, spinach and mint risotto which was on the specials menu. The salmon was perfectly cooked but the risotto was inedible and can only be described as a green unseasoned mush. The rest of our group's meals were fine although they had run out of frites this time (to accompany the moules) and when my friend ordered the carrot cake for dessert she was presented with an uncooked slab of cake mixture. The cooking, at best, is a bit hit and miss. However, I really hope that the restaurant can sort out the service and the consistency of the cooking as having a restaurant like this in the neighbourhood is great. Next time though I think I will go for a drink only.

We stopped in for brunch on Sunday. The place itself is pretty funky with a nice chilled vibe. However, I don't appreciate my service quite so chilled. Things took a long time to arrive at the table, 4 out of 5 meals were not as ordered and had to be corrected and a pot of tea took over 12 minutes to find its way over. Luckily we weren't in a rush, I won't be in a rush to go back though either.

We visited Cameo bistro on Welfield road last Saturday for food and drinks and it was such a big disappointment!1. Good environment,we were lucky the sun was out and we found a table in the garden2. Bad service! The waiters look as if they don't enjoy their job,we had to ask a few times for the menu,to place our order,to get our order,to get the things we ordered properly as one plate was arriving but it was the wrong one and then the waiter was just looking around for ...whoever had ordered it to raise his hand probably!3. We had the duck terrine, the fillet and a burger and apart from the burger everything else was absolutely bad! The terrine actually looked as if someone had put together leftovers of duck meat portions, added a little pepper and served it to us! The fillet arrived on our table cold but when we mentioned it to the lady who served us there was no reaction but her saying "oh...I am sorry for that."4. Good selection of wines but do go for a bottle instead of a glass as my experience was bad on that too. I went for a glass of Sauvignon Blanc and apart from the fact that it arrived warm which didn't taste as it should. I mentioned it to the lady who served us but again her reaction was...none! The people sitting next to us accidentally were having a bottle of that so the gentleman kindly offered to give me some to try out of their bottle only to realise that the taste difference was huge ! We called the lady who served us again, mentioned it,she brought me another glass of the same wine which had the proper taste but quests what...they charged us for it! We complained but it didn't change anything! So,if you want to visit the Cameo on welfield road...just be aware that their professionalism is nothing of the one in pontcana !

We've been coming back to the Cameo over the last few months and it's definitely changed for the better. Food standards are really good both tapas and a la carte and the atmosphere is much better. It can seem quiet early evening but has really started to liven up post 11pm. Great to stop off for a nightcap locally outside of pub hours.

First visit to the Wellfield Road Cameo. Knocks spots off nearby competitors in every way. Fantastic contemporary conversion of an old shop & flat. Whole place has a great feel and the staff were warm and welcoming from the off. Although we were both hungry a Risotto starter and pasta main was probably not the best idea as the portions were ENORMOUS. Presentation and taste of the food - excellent. Great wine selection and a decent draught beer offer. Everything great about this place but the highlight was the staff attention to detail - superb!

Let me know if you get access fixed .I did pop in to chat with friendly manager who agreed with me. Any plans ??Same goes for pushchairs

I came here with family after completing the Velothon Wales on 14th June. The staff were so helpful as I have a number of food allergies, and the chef even came out to talk to me. They also took me at my word when I said I wanted to eat lots of chips (I had just ridden 85 miles on my bike), and brought me a supersized portion. The food was excellent, the generous steak cooked exactly as I had ordered it and the tomato and red onion salad they made especially for me was nicely dressed with an olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette. The walls are plastered with great photos of famous Welsh men and woman, and a supersize portrait of Shirley Bassey adorns the doors to the ladies toilets. Loved it.

Decided to try out this new restaurant, as we've been to the Cameo Club many times. First impressions ? No-one to meet and greet, so quite difficult to talk to the correct staff member. The place looked good and nicely decorated. We were seated, given menus and then eventually ordered drinks and dinner. I asked for fish and chips but they had sold out. I said "Why didn't the waitress tell me that when she handed out menus." I ordered mini burgers as a starter, and when they arrived I asked for ketchup, but was told that they had "run out" of ketchup. They are located 100 yards from Tesco !! My Moules were luke warm at best, the others were cold !Unlikely to return. They must try harder and train their staff better and hire a host/hostess to meet and greet.

It appears that the Wellfield Road operation hasn't been added to TA yet - this is the venue I visited for lunch last week. The place looks really good as you walk in. Its hard to believe it used to be the clothes shop!! Its been opened right up and has a large seating area, an upstairs and a lovely outside area. Decor great. Trendy - keeping the 'Welsh' theme alive with plenty of black and white photographs on the wall of our Welsh heroes! My friend and I both opted for the Welsh Beef Burger with Cheese. Came with chips and some beetroot relish at £9.90. Sounded delicious! What arrived was a very sorry excuse for a burger. The bun was awful. It was so dry (and not from toasting) it literally disintegrated on touch! Really weird. If it was Sunday you could maybe forgive them as I guess it would have been bread delivered on Saturday but we ate on a Wednesday lunch time. Don't know if they were frozen then defrosted buns or what but it was vile. So leaving the bun to one side : the burger itself was just ok. I'm guessing they were homemade (?) but they were totally bland and oozing grease from the middle. The scraping of melted cheese over the top was so bland and transparent and pale I couldn't even begin to tell you what it was. Some sort of awful coleslaw topped this which smelt 'odd'. Chips, triple cooked apparently, were just ok too. You could smell the fat on them as they approached your mouth. Like the deep fat fryer needed an oil change...Not pleasant. We ate our way through half of it as we were hungry and we did draw it to the waitresses attention. She didn't seem overly bothered and said she'd tell the chef! No apology or offer to make it right which I found really disappointing. So yep! We left feeling a bit 'robbed'!Probably won't rush back to eat there - although I will go back with my OH and give them another go at some point just in case this was an 'off' day. I'll just swerve the burger next time!!!

Visited Cameo during the first week of opening and it was manic. Couldn't find a table to eat at first, but the lovely staff found us a table once I mentioned my disappointment at not being able to eat there. I had the Halloumi Burger and it was divine. Will definitely be back soon when it's not so manic. Only criticism is that I think they need some soft furnishings e.g cushions to soak up the noise... Everything else was great.

Cameo have opened another venue in Wellfield Road, Roath, we had lunch there the other day, my daughter and I, the ambience is very good, with an outside area at the rear of the property, also upstairs has another lovely area and outside there are two tables where you can overlook the street. The service was not very good we had to wait an hour for our lunch, having said that when it did arrive it was really good, staff were apologetic about the wait and offered us a free drink. I think this place will get better as it only opened on Monday and obviously has a few teething problems with staff which can only improve.

I live locally and have been for breakfast here a couple of times. It is the best an less busy and claustrophobic than its competitor up the road. The food is also better. If like me you judge the quality of the breakfast on the sausage and bacon, I can confirm that they are lovely. The sausage is gourmet type the bacon is wonderfully thick and perfectly cooked. I am a connoisseur of the full English (or Welsh) and the Cameo serve the best. Good value too. Lovely stuff.

Once again, here we are at the Caneo. We've paid membership to this private members' bar which seems to have been a waste of money. Membership promises exclusive entry after 10pm but since membership we've never been asked to show proof of membership, so why bother? And here we are, at 11:30pm on a Friday night and they're playing Michael Jackson's greatest hits, which is obviously aimed to please the older clientele it attracts. One big YAWN once again. Don't bother with membership. And stay away if you're under 50...

We come here a lot. The food was always very good to excellent but the last few trips haven't been great. The staff were always great. They have stopped doing their mid week set menu which is a shame. It suddenly seems less appealing compared to what you could get elsewhere for the price. We went in for some drinks at the bar, sat down with the menus and the grumpy barman just left us there for 30 mins. There were only two others in the place. We left. This place has been through tough times being defrauded through no fault of its own but it's going to suffer further if it doesn't pick up a bit.

The Cameo, is quite a nice setting, it is a private members club, but anyone can dine at certain times. I have been a few times for various gatherings, and the menu in fairness is pretty good value for the area. I have tried the Fish & Chips, Burger, and Sunday Lunch on various occasions. First visit, food was really good, but on 3 occasions after the first visit, noticed the food had gone down hill, small portions, average in terms of taste, and service a bit muddled. When we went for Sunday lunch, it was actually awful, dry meat, dull vegetables, and gravy that was tasteless and almost black in colour. Price wise the menu is good value, but its the drinks that soon clock the prices up to that of a better restaurant. Overall it's alright, but better suited to when there is a group, and the focus is on conversation, and the food is peripheral.

This is a private member's club but seems to be open to all for most of the day. On Sunday evening there is a jazz group playing popular songs in the bar area. it may be a bit loud for some but you can move into a dining area round the corner. Tapas are served and at £10 for 3 this is enough for a meal. However they are not really Spanish tapas and reflect international cuisine of the sort that is available for starters in many other restaurants. There is a good selection of beers and cocktails and service was fast. There is a unique atmosphere here of informality with diners dancing in the bar. Many of them seemed to know each other and the club attracts the local artistic community. If you like entertainment in the evening than the cameo Club is worth a visit.

The menu reads, look at our specials board, but it was empty, ordered starters, came within mins, worrying as i ordered fish, mains, sea bass was great, steak was awful, £22.00 of fat and tough enough to wear as as a shoe sole, i told the member of staff who told me he would speak to scott the chef and do something, they refunded my starter ???????
