Cornucopia Bistro in Windsor and Maidenhead

We were trying this restaurant for the first time with anticipation of a French dining delight. However, whilst the food was good, well presented and tasty it was let down by the small portion size and the high cost. With drinks the bill for 4 was over three hundred pounds for just two courses, and I for one, would expect a more sublime dining experience at this price. The restaurant itself was well presented but there was a lack of atmosphere - perhaps due to the lack of any French music. We would normally ask for music to be turned down but this was completely the opposite. One small thing that really jarred was that the bread presented was soggy and tasteless and nothing like we've had in restaurants in France. A few pence more spent on this would have helped to elevate the experience. Overall the restaurant was O.K but not a place to be revisited - especially at the price.

Great food and Service. Booked via email and received a very quick reply. The dishes had by all four of us was excellent and plentiful. We were the last in the restaurant but this did not stop the manager offering us an Amaretto each which we gratefully accepted. Hopefully will return when in Windsor again.

Been here a few times now, always great food and service, considering that they are in the heart of Windsor we never get the 'your just tourist feel' very friendly and the steak Diane is very 70s retro delicious

Amazing authentic restaurant . The service and food here was so good . We have said we would come to Windsor again just to come here . We both had the Scallops , followed by the Duck . The Courgette Frittes and garlic potatoes were so tasty . Superbly cooked and presented . We had liqueur coffees to finish . It was busy so recommend booking .

The restaurant has a nice atmosphere with attentive service. The rabbit was very good with a very good portion. The pork special was very tough with a bland sauce. Very disappointing item. The enjoyment of the rabbit did not make up for the disappointment with the pork.

Pleased we found this lovely french restaurant in Windsor as many are part of a chain. Excellent food, highly recommended. Staff very attentive.

The best restaurant in Windsor by a mile. Friendly, professional, cosy - with a menu that delivers everything you need ( especially rabbit ). We have been going here for years ( in all it's previous guises ) and it never fails to impress and please.

We spent New Year's Eve at A la Russe and had the most wonderful meal . Service from Pasquale and his team was amazing, especially as one of our party has special needs. Food was beautifully prepared and tasted fantastic ( I had Ceviche of Sea Bass and Steak Tatare). A lovely evening - we will return soon I hope.

Eight of us had a birthday meal here on 30 Dec. Excellent menu and wine list. The fish of day was a superb Dover sole. One of the party described the fillet steak as the best they had ever eaten and another raved about the rabbit. The venison and the halibut with scallop sauce were equally well received. We wished we lived nearer to be able to eat our way through the menu. The service was very good and the prices reasonable for central Windsor. We are not an easy group to please but this was a faultless evening.

Visited Windsor for the day, looked for reviews for best restaurant and came across this one. It didn't disappoint, great service, fantastic food and great atmosphere.,we sat at 6pm, but by 7 it was getting busy and by 7.30 felt full and great vibe. Scallops were amazing, lamb shank was huge and delicious and creme brulee to end was spot on! Would highly recommend and visit again.

A la Russe is a restaurant in a prominent position in Windsor’s High Street which we’ve often passed but have been unable to visit because unlike virtually every other restaurant in Windsor it’s not open on a Sunday. But being in Windsor for the Good Friday morning service in St. George’s Chapel and finding A la Russe open it seemed churlish not to visit for lunch. I’m not at all sure why it’s called A la Russe (did the owner have a dalliance with a Slavonic femme fatale I wonder) as this purports to be a French or even Mediterranean restaurant formerly known as Cornucopia Bistro. Although there’s no sign of a former goat’s horn garlanded with flowers nor is there much indication of any significant change over the years. Indeed the slightly dated feel of the interior with wine bottles in a fridge and a waitress in a traditional white outfit reminded me a little of Cafe Rene. All that was needed was a visit from the military gentlemen who attended the chapel service and a slightly podgier maitre’d with a moustache and the vision would be complete. As for the food, a set menu was off and then on as it was or wasn’t a bank holiday and so it seemed churlish not to enjoy the likes of a pork terrine with a brioche followed by a minute sirloin steak in a delicate tomato pomegranate and spring onion salsa for me and a soupe du jour followed by a fillet of haddock in a white wine sauce for my wife. Both mains came with separate bowls of carrots and green beans. My daughter had a chicken saltimbocca (more of an Italian than a French dish) with chips from the a la carte. All doubtless to the satisfaction of locals and invading tourists alike.
