Just had a fabulous afternoon lunch here everything was delicious and well cooked. Would highly recommend the food and the pub itself. Waiting staff were superb to us not easy to manage six ladies! THANKYOU

We recently booked a table for 8 for Saturday lunch. We were travelling from various parts of the country for a family meetup and The Crown Inn was the halfway point. None of us had been before and we were pleasantly surprised. It is a lovely rural location not far from the A1 and we were made very welcome with our table all ready when we arrived. The staff were very friendly and efficient and the service was quick. The menu was varied at very reasonable prices and when it was brought to us it had that Wow factor. All the dishes were beautifully presented and tasted delicious. Good helpings too!!!! I really can recommend this hospitality venue and we shall certainly use it again for our next family gathering.

Saw this little pub whilst driving so we popped in for some lunch and it was a wonderful experience from start to finish! Fantastic customer service, absolutely beautiful delicious food! And a homey atmosphere would recommend to anyone!

My husband and I went to the Crown for his birthday meal and had Lasagne, chips and garlic bread and I can honestly say it was the best Lasagne we have ever tasted. The staff are really friendly and the atmosphere is welcoming too so we'll definitely be going back

We are regular visitors to the Crown and are big fans of their steak pie, fish & chips & burgers. However, on their Christmas Specials menu is a delicious dish we can highly recommend - the pork chop in Cider& Apple sauce served with smashed spuds & super sprouts. Honestly it is divine! We visited today and had the most delicious Sunday Lunch. Beef/Gammon and Turkey cooked beautifully, homemade Yorkshire Pudding, mash & veg including mushy peas followed by homemade treacle pud & custard.I’m advised the after eight cheesecake was divine too. It was extremely busy so advise to book in advance - we’ll worth the money

Not really sure I should tell you about this place but I promised Trish, who works there, I would. Service is superb, the food is even better. Couple of heads up, they only do a carvery on a Sunday and please don’t turn up unannounced as booking beforehand is strongly advised. Never had any reason to complain about anything at all, it’s simply that good. Trish and Maisie up front are the perfect partnership as are owners Jackie and Jason. Do yourself a favour, give em a bell, book a table and I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

We went there yesterday afternoon for a Carvery Sunday Dinner. Wow was it tasty especially that awesome gravy. The service was superb, the younger girls there had obviously been well trained and they were very hard working. It was waiter service for drinks and no queues at the carvery station as they have a fab system where they stagger clients on a first seated basis. We were both stuffed when we’d finished and when we paid our bill we were pleasantly surprised how cheap it was compared to other places we’ve had similar food and service. We’ll be back.

We have been going to the crown for many years now . But tonight's visit was very disappointing. Ordered our meals while waiting I tried to order another pint but the young girl just ignored me . Went to fetch my own no big problem. But was really looking for to our meal . Waited 1hr . It wasn't that busy when we went in . My partner ordered her meal scampi with salad. In the past the salad has been amazing. But on this occasion it was very poor. When we mentioned this to the young girl she just said that is what we serve now . And walk off . Another lady came over later, we explained about our meal and she apologised and took the meal off the bill . But that's not what we wanted. We just wanted to enjoy our meals like we have for years.

Called here when it was very quiet Thursday teatime. I had the pie which was microwaved to death. If it’s one thing I cannot stand is microwaved pastry. I won’t go back.

Decided to treat my partner to some good home made food . No fancy food here just good honest pub grub. Can't fault the food or the service

Typical British Pub Fayre. Reasonably portioned Steaks, Gammon etc all served with the requisite trimmings. Turned up without a reservation and they immediately opened up further dining areas to make it less crowded.

My family was visiting just before Christmas. So I decided to take them out to the Crown Inn .Great selection for a pint . Loads of choice on the menu. fabulous food at a very good price. If you are in the area call in you won't be disappointed.

Recent small Funeral buffet booked for 20 family members after Mums Cremation. Unexpectedly 2 adults and 1 child extra so asked for extra plates as enough food to share.Landlady charged for 3 extra empty plates... no more food asked for and there was plenty left which she said take away (my daughter did on principal) When queried why she said she had fed 23?? I said I only ordered for 20 but she was adamant I pay and rather rude with it. I could have understood her charging if we were having meals from the carvery but a buffet... really!This has been our local for over 20 years, we are not regulars but local. My younger brother put plenty over the bar on the day too, sad she had to spoil the send off. A very quiet Wednesday for her had we not been there I suspect. We will not return or recommend in future. It was £9.50 per head , I certainly didn’t eat that amount of food nor my husband.

Fairly typical of a lot a carvery Sunday lunches. Good and hot with beaut Yorkshire buds. Would have benefitted from an option of something a little less sweet and stodgy on the dessert menu.

With a party of 20 for a birthday lunch All the food was well cooked plentiful and hot. I had lasagne (without the chips) and it was piping hot till the last mouthful. Service was very efficient for such a large party.

From the initial phone call to enquire about availability to paying the bill we were treated with care and kindness. The food was fantastic, the service was excellent and the price was very fair. We couldn’t thank the staff and management enough for their service and sensitivity at a very difficult time for us. Highly recommended

I've known this pub since I was a kid but haven't been back in about 30 years. We went as a big family group for the Sunday carvery and I was really impressed. The meat was good, self service on a good choice of vegetables, and really good gravy, full of flavour. Sweets reasonably priced. Would definitely go back.

Been for Carvery with family today and quite disappointed with the food. I had beef and gammon, the meat was very fatty, mash potato had never seen a potato and only limited choice of vegetables, nearly £10 each too. After hearing about the Sunday carvery here I was looking forward to my dinner, doubt I will return

Three generations enjoyed a great meal together on a busy Saturday night. The staff were, as usual, friendly and efficient. We ordered a variety of dishes and every one was cooked perfectly and the portions were generous. Great value for money.

As always food excellent, well cooked nice n hot good choice, Meat juicy, very clean. Asked for the Desserts menu waited 15 minutes for them to take our order, felt like leaving we waited so long, wasnt even busy.

Firstly I would recommend booking to avoid disappointment. Staff very polite and helpful. Couldn't fault the meal what so ever.

We used to go here very often and enjoy the carvery however on our last visit it was terrible. The mash potatoes had a crust on the top and the beef was tasteless. Its such a shame.

A last minute decision to go out for lunch today, but we wanted to try somewhere we haven't been and found Crown Inn on Trip Advisor.

This place is first class. We've been here a few times in the past and have never been disappointed. The surroundings, staff and service are second to none. The food is excellent, the portion sizes are good and they are great value for money.

Tea with family. A good selection of meals on offer from a traditional menu. Quality and service were good, clean toilets but a little pricey.

Called in with my husband for a late lunch - it was gorgeous! The portions were incredible and the food was so tasty! Would recommend to anyone!

Must highly recommend the Crown Inn in Barnburgh Doncaster, I had the salmon from the special board and I must say it was delicious, presentation was fabulous, the salmon was done to perfection and the chef’s sauce that was served with it was delicious and complemented the salmon perfectly. Will definitely be tasting this dish again.

Visited for a Sunday carvery for the family 7 of us and slightly dissapointed by the meal. On arrival it was very busy and it was chaos around the bar area and there appeared to be no one in charge to organise anything even though we had pre booked a table. When seated I was struck by the quality of the dinning furniture that was old fashioned and not functioning properly. Everytime my son stood up his drink was nearly knocked over because there was hardly enough room for his legs to fit under the table. The place was packed so they must be doing something right but there was no music or atmosphere and the whole place needs a modern revamp.

The food and the staff were first class. Excellent quality of food. We will be trying the carvery next!!!

Excellent Sunday Lunch. Choice of 3 roasts help yourself to veg which is always fresh and replenished frequently. Great beer and wine selection. Staff extremely helpful and friendly. Would highly recommend but you may need to make a reservation in advance of your visit.

Visited for the first time today 2/9/18 had the carvery, at 9.95 it's good value. The beef was superb and the vegetables were well cooked and plentiful. One of the best carveries I've had so will definitely be back and also recommend to friends and family.

This was our first to the Crown inn but it won't be our last . Staff very polite and welcoming. Good selection on the menu .Great quality food . I would advise if you are thinking about going I would definitely give them a ring first .

One of the better carveries around here, not too expensive either. They also have a pie option if that's what you prefer.

Visited with my family but we were all very disappointed despite the good reviews on here. Food was very dry and therefore didn’t strike me as fresh, more like it has been heated up in a microwave

So, we were at Consibrough Castle for an event on Saturday and looked for restaurants that offer vegan options. We troddled off here, and were not disappointed. My good lady had several choices (rather than the 'one at the bottom of the menu' option), whilst I (as a reducer in meat terms) had several good choices. The options were there to amend some dishes to be vegan suitable (it's all cooked fresh), but my good lady decided on the bread and olives option. She was not disappointed - several different breads of various flavours, pickled garlic, olives - she was in hog's heaven! I started with the mushroom soup and then had the chicken curry. Both were well suited to the tongue and I was very impressed with the quality.

Bit of a disappointing first visit, We ordered the mince pie and lasagne both were extremely dry and bland.

I wanted to write this review as I have been 3 times in the last month . I have been with hubbie , with family and a group of 6 and the service is fab . Last visit we booked and had to call to say that we were late but the chef stayed even though food had finished . Each time the service and food has been faultless ... big portions but lovely quality . The homemade pie is always a winner with me but the fish and chips , lasagne , Home made chicken kiev , kicking chicken and scampi are all what we’ve eaten and enjoyed . This is really s must if you love home made good food ..their twice fried chips are the best !!!

It's about 3 months since our last visit and a new cook seems to have improved the fare even more.We asked if we could have the starters we required as a sharing platter which was served without any problem.

I visited this restaurant back in December last year and was amazed at the quality and quantity for the price. (6.50 for a carvery) I returned today and nothing has changed. Everything was cooked to perfection, there was plenty of it and the staff were just as friendly and helpful.

Gorgeous Sunday roast, choice of 3 meats, loads of veg. Mash was amazing and I was lucky enough to get the end nub of the beef - happy days! Treacle sponge was also great.

Attended a pre booked New Years Eve party for last night. The buffet, singer and disco was excellent. The Hostess and staff were very attentive and joined in the celebrations.

This was my first visit to this venue. Really friendly and efficient staff along with very pleasant surroundings. A large group of us had a Christmas Carvery. The food was out of this world! Freshly cooked and piping hot. Sadly, I didn't have room for a pudding, but what I saw looked very good. Excellent value for money and I will definitely be going back

Visited for lunch on Sunday with my grandchildren. On arrival we asked if the veg on the car very had butter on as one of them has a dairy intolerance. The waitress immediately brought the chef who confirmed it had, but not to worry he would do a special plate of food for him without the butter, he even sorted out a special baby plate!!! His food was kept for him until we were all served and he kept a lookout for us to make sure....when it arrived it was a very generous portion and well cooked. The rest of us all had the carvery which was excellent, couldn't fault it ..... overall excellent food and first class service, nothing was too much trouble.... thank you

Lunchtime visit. Food - very good, had mixed grill, and scampi and chips (see photos). Very generous portions. They have a good menu if you don't want the carvery. Service - warm friendly greeting and great service throughout. Wheelchair access - ramped entrance, disabled toilet. One area of the restaurant not accessible because of steps down to it. The only issue was that the tables are quite low if you are sitting in a wheelchair to eat and a slightly higher table for this reason would be a nice option for wheelchair users. Would definitely return when in the area.

The pub was full - perhaps we should have booked, but we were found places outside. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the food (carvery) was plentiful and tasty, and the beer was good - what more can you ask for? Oh, and the sun was shining! Bliss

Visited on 24/08/17 for the first time for a family tea.

I have yet to have a bad meal here, often wish Cajun salmon was on the set menu rather than the specials board but had the steak on this visit and was cooked perfect. The presentation was great and the staff couldn't help enough!

Been going to this pub for a while now, every time I have been the service has been fantastic including the latest time for my sisters 40th Birthday. Jacqui and Diane always go the extra mile. There was a large group of us but all food came out at the same time which a lot of restaurants don't get right. Great prices on food and brilliant quality. My favourite restaurant.

Out cycling on the transpennine trail to Conisborough Castle from Barnsley and found this pub on the way back. Although we hadn't booked and was very busy it was no problem for them to find us a table. It was Sunday so only the carver was available but it was gorgeous, proper home cooked food. The staff were very accommodating and friendly and made us feel very welcome. Even some of the locals chatted to us about where we had cycled from and too, such a lovely atmosphere. If you get the chance then give it a try, you won't be disappointed. Will definitely be going again.

Call at the Crown quite regularly. As always the service is excellent, fabulous home made food, must remember to skip the starter and save room for dessert.

Having passed this place on several occasions we called in for a light lunch, i had the scampi which was lovely.The staff and service is also very good.It was always at the back of my mind to try this place due to the reviews i've read, i shallreturn. Thankyou.

We were dismayed to find every table reserved when we walked in the door and very nearly walked straight back out. Given the empty car park and lack of other customers we pressed the staff to see if they could fit us in - well apparently they could and other non booked diners after us. an hour later and only one 'reserved' table had booked occupants. Clearly tables were not really reserved - they very nearly lost several tables worth of diners by putting the signs on tables.That said, the staff were very helpful, the food what I would expect and prices reasonable. the only issue with the food was temperature - my lasagne was far to hot to eat when delivered, a result of using individual dishes and too long in the microwave!I would use again certainly but it wouldn't be first choice

The staff her are very friendly and service good. The surroundings are traditional. It was very busy yesterday lunch time and I suspect it is because the Carvery is such good value for money. I opted for the Carvery and although I enjoyed it I don't think I'd rush back for second helpings. However there is also the usual menu and a specials board with a few other main courses listed.

Not the first time we have been here and it certainly won't be the last. Always excellent food and very friendly and helpful staff. Would certainly highly recommend the Crown Inn. If you're passing, don't. Stop and call in. It is well worth a visit.

If you live within 10 miles of this place and have never been, remedy it soon! Fantastic food, friendly professional staff and just amazing value. Beautiful rump steak for £10:95, sounds to good to be true but it's spot on. Try it, you won't be disappointed!

Myself and wife had a great traditional meal, both choosing from the specials board deep filled mince pie and sweet chilli chicken. Both dishes were generous portions and full of flavour cooked to perfection the thick cut chips with the pie were as good as you'll ever taste. For deserts we chose treacle sponge & custard and woodland fruit cheesecake again both excellently sized and very tasty. All the food along with 3 drinks (2 pints of diet coke and a pint of Johns) and 2 filter coffees came to less than £40.The staff were very friendly and attentive, the atmosphere was very relaxed, and I would thoroughly recommend the Crown.

Called here with my wife on a Friday lunchtime. The staff are very welcoming and friendly which was the first thing to note. We opted to have a carvery and the quality of the food was very good. It wasn't very busy when we arrived as it was after 2pm but they were setting tables out in preparation for the evening with many reservations so if you were thinking of eating there during an evening it's maybe advised to book in advance.

This is not the first party we have held at the Crown inn it's a review I should have wrote years ago, Jackie Jason and all there staff give first class service in everything they do, nothing is too much trouble the food is excellent I cannot praise enough well worth a visit

My wife and I are village locals and call in for a meal or a drink with the dog from time to time and I have been meaning to write a review for a while.Tonight we have just eaten here again, we didn't book but they managed to fit us in all the same. This was the first time I've been here for a meal and I enjoyed it. It was a birthday celebration and everyone met for the lunch time carvery, as this was where the birthday person had chosen to eat. The staff were very helpful and the food was enjoyable. I chose the gammon, which was tasty answer the Yorkshire puddings, but the stuffing was not so nice, very dry, and the roast potatoes were a bit limp; not crispy on the outside but guess that's because of the quantity that had to be cooked. Overall, I enjoyed the experience but will not be returning for another carvery.

Booked a table in advance which proved to be the right thing to do as the pub and restaurant was busy. ( week leading up to Christmas) The carvery was good value and helpings were more than adequate. The sweet desert was varied and again of a very good quality. The service was very good. The waiter and waitress were polite, efficient and cheerful.However I was disappointed with the decor which looks the same as it was years ago when I was last in this pub. Time to modernise?

I've never been disappointed with Crown's food or their fab hospitality. We only get a chance to visit a few times a year but every time is such a warm welcome. Today's food was as tasty as ever. Five adults and two children, we had a main and dessert each. Everyone cleared their plates and rolled out of the door afterwards, happy and full. Of course we'll be back. That goes without saying. And we look forward to it every time.
