Fillet steak was beautiful, I'd have hoped it be with homemade chips. The menu is ok but where has the seafood gone ? The mac n cheese was seriously lacking cheese, tasted like a roux rather than a cheese sauce. The man behind the bar was helpful and cheery. X

As we were staying a mile down the road, we had booked the Dores inn for our Friday night meal. On arrive the pub was fairly quiet, and we were seated straight away. When we ordered drinks, some of the beers on tap weren't available, therefore I had a pint of St Mungo (which was a really nice lager). We ordered the soup to start which was supposed to come with crusty bread, however the bread we got not crusty at all. That said, the soup was actually really tasty, and was a good sized portion. For mains, we had the haggis, which was not only huge, tasted really good. It was presented well, and the sauce was good and not that overpowering. The service was really good on the Friday night, and was mainly by a tall lady with a plait. Because it had been so good on the Friday, we also booked for the Saturday night too. This time we had a monster burger with haggis, and a Mac and cheese. The burger was really good, but the Mac and cheese was lacking. The top needed a bit more broiling, and the pasta itself needed some pepper and seasoning. Due to the amount of cheese on top, it made it a bit oily. We also sat for a while with empty drinks, but the service was really lacking on the Saturday night. We ended up leaving without having more to drink/dessert. It is well located on the shores and food is good/portion sizes are good, but a bit more attention by some staff is needed.

We arrived just after the Inn opened and given a table inside (at our request). We hadn't booked but it soon became clear that many people had. We ordered from the Sandwich menu: a ham, lettuce and tomato baguette and a cheese and pickle baguette. The baguettes were fresh, crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. However the cheese and pickle baguette should have been called 'pickle with some cheese'. The amount of pickle was overpowering and made the baguette almost inedible. By sharing the two baguettes and removing much of the filling from the offending one, we were able to eat both baguettes. We pointed out to a member of staff that the amount of pickle made the food inedible but instead of offering to replace the baguette, he said that he would inform the chef. We heard no more and no reduction in price was given when we left. There is an outside eating area, part of which is covered with an open side marque to give views of the lock and an outside bar where food and drinks can be ordered. By 1pm this area was very busy. The Inn also appears to provide an 'out of hours' toilet for the general public, operated by an honesty box. This is a great idea as the area doesn't appear to have any public toilets. However it would benefit from signage. We would return if in the area again (there didn't appear to be anywhere else to eat) but would be very careful with what we order.

Lovely location but total tourist trap! Paid £4.50 for the smallest bowl of cheesy chips and they hadn't even melted the cheese so was just grated on top! Had a baguette, which was nice, but that's pretty much all it was for £7.50 as they can't claim the few leaves they put on the side is a salad. Not the impression I would want to give any potential new customers, let alone people from abroad. Some of the staff were friendly but a few clearly wanted to be anywhere else but serving paying customers (over paying I might add!). Won't be going back.

I was here for lunch with husband and adult daughter and just did not rate it - none of us did. I had the chicken wings as a main course. It was good but a very messy dish. A good job we had ordered water and had lots of tissues because we were not offered extra napkins or a bowl of water to clean up Husband had meat pie which was mediocre and daughter vegan burger which she did not rate. I might say they do not ever complain about food. We had only the one dessert - orange and mango sorbet. If course the two scoops had to be the powerful orange and only one of the much nicer mango. The loos were only just passable and could have done with a good coat of paint. Feel the owners are relying on the location for trade as opposed to them producing good fare. Well if they cannot be bothered I will certainly not bother going back. Ashamed to think this is what tourists to the Highlands/Scotland are being offered. PS I don't know what they have on the table but my blouse stuck to it. The server thought it was furniture polish.

While the food is not the best that we have had in Scotland, it was fairly standard pub fare. There are a few vegan options which for us is a bonus. Earlier today I purchased a ham salad baguerre here. The baguette itself was about 6 to 7 inches long and contained a couple of slices of the cheapest mass produced wet and slippery ham they sell anywhere and an extremely meagre handful of limp salad. The baguette itself was totally dry with no spread or Mayo. Total cost of contents can realistically be no more than £1.I was charged £8 for this truly awful attempt at a ham salad baguette. I can't speak for other food on the menu but this is one of the worst examples of pub rip off food that I have come across in the Highlands - and I live here so I know this as fact. It's such a shame because this is a great pub with probably one of the best locations in the UK literally on the banks of Loch Ness. I have eaten here previously and I remember it as being OK-not stunning but perfectly acceptable as pub grub. They have let themselves down badly with this grossly over-priced baguette.
