Fish and Chips at Snainton in Scarborough

We decided on a takeaway supper and the smell of the chippy lured us in. Cod & chips is £9.95 which isn’t cheap but it was very good. My partner chose scampi & chips which she said was delicious. The guy serving was very friendly & cooked the food while we waited.

Fish and chips as they should be. Tryed several fish and chip shops in the area but this by the best. Will definitey recommend.

Camping nearby at the weekend we had fish and chip supper from here one night and it was really lovely thank you very much 😊

Popped in here whilst staying in Snainton on honeymoon earlier this month. Was hoping for some good old fashioned quality fish and chips - and wasn't disappointed! Food and service excellent, highly recommended!

Delicious fresh fish and tasty chips. All cooked to perfection. Belting batter and perfect peas. Couldn’t fault it. Been twice and would highly recommend.

Real quality fish and chips shop. Walked here while staying in Snainton and wasn't disappointed. I had fish chips and peas my wife scampi chips and salad. Did not realise they had tables at the rear so sat their and ate the food a real bonus. Staff really friendly and even offered to bring the food round. Cooked to order hot and real quality best scampi my wife had ever had she said. Fish was good portion and really good. I would definitely recommend trying here you won't be disappointed

This week was my turn to pay so I thought we would give it another try Big mistake.... Wife questions staff why it was £2 more expensive this week for the same order as last week, no explanation given. We were served and drove off to a nearby lay-by to enjoy the food. Opening The box reviled a well done fish and not many chips for the money Popped the lid of the curry sauce (last weeks was perfect the only reason for this weeks return) to find it thick like jello , disappointing. Wife opened peas it was a solid lump (she remained quiet as not to upset me) I broke off a piece of fish to find a 4ins ginger hair in mine, instantly felt queasy and unable to carry on eating. I was particularly upset as I only managed to earn £25 this week due to Covid and unfortunately spent most of it on this meal. I thought the staff would be particularly stringent about hygiene in the current situation . it brings forth a lot of questions about this establishment. None of which are good, To the wild haired cardigan wearing fish fryer from Saturday 14th of November 2020 I would say WEAR A HAIR NET AND THE CORRECT UNIFORM FOR THE JOB IN HAND. After reading my review and you do go , I hope you have a better experience than I.

Some of the best fish and chips we've had. Served in a box that seems to keep the food so much better. Very friendly owner and staff.

I have never been so appalled by fish and chips. We turned up at 8.30 for fish and chips. We were the only ones in there and how you can possibly burn batter when you are doing nothing else astounds us.There was no offer of salt and vinegar. The girls who work in there are arrogant. When leaving they were sniggering. No wonder as when we got home to find dry old chips and a horrible burnt fish and god knows what the taste was it was fowl. I would stay clear of this chippy. Its worth travelling a bit further for something edible.

Clearly the best fish and chips in the area! Sarah and Terry are just so friendly and helpful. The chippy doubles as a local shop as we don't have another in the area.

Always find a fish and chips shop for our meal before hitting the road the next morning. Found Snainton's shop last year and vowed to go again. We were not disappointed as they were the same excellent meal with the same excellent friendly service even with the Covid19 restrictions. Our next caravan visit to the area is in October and fish and chips are already on the to do list.

We picked up fish and chips on the way to our caravan on Friday evening and it was probably the worst fish I've ever had from a chip shop, I gave half of it to the dog. It was dry and the batter was hard. The chips were nothing special either. In future we'll pick them up at Thornton le Dale.

Called at virtual shutting time and asked for takeaway chips. Told none left. Offered a sandwich. I declined. Disappointed not to have a batch fried fresh for me.

We had a takeaway last night and really enjoyed these fish and chips. A lovely treat whilst we socially isolate in these strange times

My husband and I enjoy fish and chips after a long dog walk once or twice a month. We’ve eaten fish and chips everywhere from Rick Steins fish and chip restaurant in padstow, to the freshest catch on the Scottish coast and lots of places in between. We both agree that these are the best fish and chips we’ve ever eaten. The batter is perfect melt in the mouth, the chips crunchy with soft centre. The fish is super fresh and flakes perfectly. We usually sit round the back in the little garden area and the man (who I presume is the owner) is always so friendly and delivers our meal to us at the table. Absolute top notch fish and chips!!

So reasonable.... 4 of us for just over £20 and free cups of tea sitting round back to eat. Lovely ...

We ordered in advance for our holiday party of 10 people and they had our order ready at The requested time, lovely tasty food, fresh fish, delicious burger with proper cheese, super chips. They even included a box of batter scraps for free. Nice friendly people and it doubles as a handy village shop.

Working locally during spring & summer and tried a trio of teas from here and never disappointed.A friendly bunch of staff who offer a smile and a catch up on the day whilst they cook to order.The fish shop offers allsorts from Haddock/cod, scampi, homemade fishcake (which i highly recommend)Burgers and chips as well as a lot more.If your staying at Jasmine caravan park its not far at all for a stroll up. Takes about 20 minutes to walk and you wont be disappointed.

Decided to order from this fish and chip shop as we were staying in one of the local rental cottages and it was recommended. Well! What an absolute gem! I rang my order in as there was 8 of us, and the guy on the phone was so friendly. A friendliness you don’t normally get if you’re a townie like me! Personally , I don’t normally like fish and chips but this place was lovely. Hot , fresh, and not too greasy, everything came boxed which was nice (no washing up!) I was stuffed afterwards, they’re not too shy on portions! Staying in another local village soon and will definitely be bringing people back here x

What a smashing little establishment this is and doubles as village shop. We enjoyed the warm welcome and the excellent quality take away food.

Great tasting fishcake, chips and mushy peas. Would have really liked to have had that extra fishcake I ordered though! My bf enjoyed his fish and chips too.

Best freshly cooked by the owner ,haddock chips and scraps with mushy peas and gravy in small pot even had a cup of coffee and cup of tea all excellent and hot .fantastic food .fantastic service and very friendly owner highly recommended and added bonus is a customer toilet.i hope to eat there again soon.

Freshly cooked to order, lovely fish chips and mushy peas. Cod tasty and fresh,nice crispy batter and piping hot. If you're not a fish lover!! My hubby would recommend the burger without cheese,battered and deep fried or freshly grilled.There are tables outside around the back of shop or if you sit in at the at a small high counter food is served up on lovely eternal beau plates. Staff are always friendly and accommodating. Holiday makers and campers second hand books available for small donation to support local church Of St Stephen.

Excellent piping hot straight out of the fryer fish and chips served in individual boxes so stayed hot nice and crisp. Really good mushy peas and curry sauce. My son got cod and chips. Comes in one size medium - it was massive. The staff super friendly excellent customer service. Excellent value for money. Can park out the front.

What a lovely little fish and chip shop. We called here while on holiday in Snainton and we were not disappointed! Like the other reviews say, the fish is made to order. Very generous portions and friendly service. Would definitely go back!! It’s a must if your in the area. We were let down with meals on our holiday and this lovely chippy was a highlight :) and made us forget about the previous ok meals.

Stopped here for fish & chips whilst we were staying in the area. Staff really friendly whilst waiting. The fish and chips are with mega portions! The fish is highly recommended, tasted lovely and the batter was beautiful.

Last Friday went went for another takaway fish and chips.After order being taken and paying a fair price, the haddocks were freshly fried . Upon eating at home the fish was fresh and encased in a good light tasty batter, the chips were nicely cooked and a generous portion. The lady frying the fish was friendly and helpful. Will be back soon.

This is a must call at chippy in Snainton. Great portions and very tasty. My partner had a huge haddock - it barely fit inside the box. I tried the potato scallops - very yummy. Lovely friendly service and staff. Well worth a visit.

Estas tienen que ser el mejor pescado y patatas fritas que he probado jamás. Nos alojamos recientemente en nosotros mismos y trataron de snainton té. Puedes entrar y pedir su comida y pop más tarde y cobrar. Un personal encantador y excelente relación calidad-precio.

Este ha sido tomada y yo espero realmente que el pescado pobre y patatas fritas sirven son sólo problemas y que pronto recuperar el nivel de lo que solía ser. Por desgracia, el ambiente en el lugar ha cambiado. Probé dos veces, si les dan una oportunidad 3ª y que aún esté tan mal que no molesten de nuevo!

Buena comida recién preparada, el personal es amable y servicial. Sin duda lo recomiendo y después de haber estado muchas veces es justo decir que es un servicio regular

Although the wait may be a little inconvenient, it is worth while. If you order the food while you wait it will be a little greasy, but if you phone your order through (01723 859700) the food will have time to stand & the grease will soak back into the fryer. Prices are about average for most chippies but the welcome and the food are well worth a visit. On road parking, easy to find, on the main road between Pickering & Scarborough. I`m fussy about what & where I eat but I had the Chippy recommended to me by DL Upholstery, what a recommendation.

A friendly, local (4 miles away) chippy, great quality, clean and busy. But why do all these places close so early, we would go much more frequently if they stayed open until 9pm

One of the best places to call in for fish and chips. The fish is delicious, the scampi is top notch too, and you always get service with a smile.

If carlsberg did fish n chips.............Absolutely delicious! Only downside is they close at 7.30 which is a bit early.

Popped in for fish and chips whilst camping and wowwwwwww amazing. I have never eaten a full portion of fish and chips due to batter being soggy but I wolfed this down. Very friendly service and you can tell how proud they are of the community they serve. Very clean and food is amazingly fresh. I have eaten in many fish and chip shops in my life but must say that this has got to be the best.

As others have said the food is cooked to order, this would explain the 20 minute plus wait AFTER you have ordered. We called recently about an hour after opening, a young girl took our order & there were 4 other people waiting, thats when I realised that the fryer was putting the fish in after you had ordered it. With about 3 hours to go till closing time I'm sure they could make the fish & keep them hot until they are sold, that's what they do where I live.On the plus side they were really nice fish & chips but if I'd known about the long wait I wouldn't have bothered, and they were very expensive compared to our local chippy.

The food is cooked to order and the prices are not bad. The fish was cooked in a light batter and like the home cooked chips were not greasy. Very tasty.

After camping close by and noticing that the shop always had customers, we decided to give it a try. The whole experience was a delight, from friendly customer service to the most amazing fish and chips. Beats Harry Ramsdens hands down :-)

We visited this lovely little chip shop on our way through to Pickering. Although we had to wait because everything is cooked to order it was worth waiting for. The chips were fluffy and crispy the fish was cooked to perfection and the peas and curry were just as good. The service was very friendly. Next time we are through this way we will defiantly be calling again

we went to the fish and chip shop and was NOT happy the lady who served us was very snappy and snotty. as for the food the chips were awful had no taste to them at all, but the fish was lovely Its safe to say I will NOT be going again and will NOT be referring to friends and family.
