We've not stayed at this hotel so we can only comment on the public spaces. These were immaculately clean and well furnished and decorated. We had afternoon tea there last week and the sandwiches, cakes and scones were excellent. Appropriate Covid precautions were in place and all of the staff were helpful and friendly. We were so impressed that , even though we are relatively local, we hope to make more use of this charming and comfortable hotel.

This visit was during the Covid-19 restriction period so all the usual decor etc. was removed and limited number of tables placed at least 2m apart which made the experience feel a bit soul-less. However the food from the limited menu was freshly cooked and the service couldn't be faulted. Restaurant doesn't have any windows which felt a bit odd.

If you’re going to charge £7 for half an onion on a scrap of old pastry, it ought to be a) peeled and b) cooked. Other restaurants I know have cut the onion into slices or small parts... just a suggestion. Also, when performance this poor is brought to your staff’s attention, they could try again or not charge the customer. It’s a shame this sticks in my mind, because the £20 burger was rather better, and was probably worth as much as half the price you charged!

Abbott’s Barton has a special memory to Kim and I so went for a birthday meal there. Was midweek and restaurant was very quiet. Service was good with friendly atmosphere and nice touch to bring out a special birthday cake. Food was good quality albeit we would have liked to have seen a bigger selection.

We enjoyed this night yet another superb dinner. The restaurant was too sparsely visited for the quality offered. Luckily they chef introduced on our second night the menu and thus we had some new choices. My wife had scallops as a starter and wonderful calf liver as a main. I had pea soup and fantastic ravioli. A louis jadot beaujolais crowned the wonderful evening. When in the neighbourhood make sure you visit this hotel restaurant.

We brought a Groupon for afternoon tea here. Wow what a lovely surprise, we had a lovely time, whilst not the cheapest afternoon tea I’ve ever purchased on Groupon -well worth the money. Lovely salmon, cucumber, ham & cheese sandwiches on brown & white bread, AND the most Delicious scones I have eaten in a long time, sooo fresh, crispy on the outside and lovely and soft inside Yummm. Please give my compliments to the chef as I’m told they are made in house - and ask if I can get a dozen to take home lol 😀 Washed down with lovely Earl Grey tea we then tried to tackle the Bakewell,Victoria sponge & Lemon drizzle cake. Needless to say we asked for a doggy bag. It was very quiet on this particular afternoon, and the lovely staff came and checked that we had everything that we wanted and then left us to take our time & Enjoy !! Would highly recommend with or without a Groupon voucher and we will def go again, as it’s one of the best I have had for a while !

If you're staying at the BW Hotel, have at least once, breakfast here! The buffet is included, and it offers a broad range of food including bacon, fried eggs, sausages, toast, viennoiseries, juice, cereals... Coffee, tea, and hot chocolate is also served ;) If you want it, you can also order "special" breakfasts, but there's a fee ;) Anyways, the point is the food was SUPER good!!!

Was expecting much of the hotel restaurant but were pleasantly surprised. Good selection of 3 courses and wines. Other drinks available from the bar. The staff were very friendly and what we ordered was well cooked, hot and well presented. Choose your main course of meat or fish and add vegetables at extra cost as you like.

We stayed at the Best Western hotel for a couple of nights and were booked into their Fountain restaurant for one evening. The menu looked good, however that was where it ended. Our starters salmon marinated in beetroot arrived, one small slice of lemon one very old looking lettuce leaf and a slab of salmon with a few pieces of beetroot. To start the presentation was poor, and you had to literally saw at the salmon to cut it. Salmon should be flacky succulent and tasty. This could have been a slab of anything. No taste or flavour and no texture, clearly just out of a freezer and not marinated at all. The main courses arrived I ordered a sirloin steak with peppercorn sauce, it arrived and looked like my steak had been run over by a car. No sauce, I waited a few minutes then asked where the sauce was. I was told it was on its way, this was now some 7 or 8 minutes later. I tried to cut the steak, with a steak knife, incidentally, I could not cut through the steak at all. It was disgusting, I sent it back and by the way the sauce still had not arrived. I ended up with the gammon meal instead, by this time my wife had already finished her meal. The gammon arrived presented like the starter, just a couple of tough pieces of gammon steak that had been well over cooked. All in all an experience to forget, they didn't even have the excuse of a full restaurant there were only four tables seated. Clearly they do not know how to prepare and present food to make it enjoyable, worse than a staff canteen, maybe they should think about employing a chef.

I cannot express my unhappiness about this restaurant - I nearly walked out. To be told none of the 4 a la carte starters AND none of the 4 main courses are available is shocking. We could choose from the grill or the set menu? It is Saturday. The shops have been open all day!!!!

We were staying at the hotel and wanted to try the restaurant, for dinner. The problem was a large party of guests, train buffs, arrived at the same time. The ingredients were fine, but the cooking a bit hit and miss. So my pepper corn sauce was not peppercorns, nor do I know what it was. The sauce for my wifes steak was equally poor.

We only had breakfast here as we had stayed over night following a family wedding at the hotel so didnt order off the main menu. Breakfast was amazing - such a huge choice of things! It was all buffet style, and staff kept an eye on what was needing topping up and did this before things ran out. It was busy being breakfast time and needed some air con on as it was a bit too warm, but really enjoyable start to the day. We opted for the cooked breakfast, sausages were great, real proper ones! All cooked lovely. Would like to visit again for a main meal.

Nice place, seemed posh, sat at a very nice table. Dead quiet so asked for some music which was eventually put on and made it seem much nicer. Limited menu choice though good to see they try to source locally and look for good animal welfare. However, as a vegetarian very limited choice. I fancied the sound of the sweetcorn broth to start but they couldn't do it without the bacon and the waitress pointed out the vegi option available to me which obviously I had already seen but didn't like some leek and potato thing. So, we skipped starters even though my partner wanted the broth! I ordered the vegi option of mushroom rissotto and my partner went for the mullet (not on the fixed price menu and priced at 16.50). My rissotto was rich creamy tasty but too sickly to finish as is the danger with ordering something like that. His fish was ridiculously small - like a starter with about 6 tiny cubes of potato, a small bit of fish on top of a bit of sea vegetable apparently - not impressed at all. When they came to ask us how it was we commented on the starter sized portion & the chef gave my partner a free dessert to make up for it. He went for the cheese and biscuit platter which was tasty but as ever could have done with more crackers and more cheese and less of the mega triangles of butter that initially looked like cheese! I didn't have a dessert. We had a bottle of the pinot grigio rose sparkling which was really nice & poured by the waitress from time to time. But, overall, we were disappointed. Left quickly and went back to our hotel across the road and watched the Apprentice!

Horrendous. Went to a Far ye hosted here. Ordered coffee etc. No cake, okay maybe their chefs are too busy to make any. Waited and waited.10 minutes later I ask where my friends tea is to be told its coming. Was also told the reason my hot chocolate was taking so long was because there was no milk; really? Only after being given a load of excuses as to why there was a delay and then why there was no milk and it was our fault because they were not expecting people to want a hot beverage. How many stats? Well guess what; with that and the cheap rate value teabags, those stars have right out of the sky. Disgusting. Chefs maybe need to be shown how to knock up a few basic cakes and staff so need retraining. It wouldn't have been quite so bad but when I asked the rather sullen looking receptionist if there was a complaints form she very rudely and then reluctantly gave me the Managers email. Just ad well I wasn't a mystery shopper.

We stayed in this hotel in Jan and ate breakfast and evening meal for two days. Three menus to choose from - daily, a la carte and the grill. Standard of the food was very good indeed, and the presentation beautifully done. Also chef is more than happy to make small changes for dietry requirements if at all possible. The waiting staff are all extremely friendly and very helpful, and the ambience is also very pleasant. Although we had to eat in the hotel restaurant as part of our package, we were more than happy to do so. Congratulations to all staff concerned.

A hidden gem in the heart of the Abbots Barton Hotel. They have a small small menu with a fixed price which changes daily and an a la carte menu with some grill items to supplement. A very good selection with lots of local produce which is always good to see. You can tell that the chef is very passionate, how this place doesn't have a rosette baffles me, perhaps they have chosen not to go down this route? Service is also impeccable with friendly and professional waiting staff and a nicely varied and not overly expensive wine list. I came with a couple of friends who were visiting from abroad and they thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
