Horatio Mugs in North Norfolk

New owners, not the same. Was full, ok that's fine. Greeted with "we've no room for you" "go for a wander" face like a slapped A. Lady in question went for a fag out side door continued to give dirty looks as we went past. Posted cctv images of us on social media after my complaint to "prove" they weren't rude, condescending apology that invalidated my complaint. Genuinely a grown child running a mediocre cafe.

Arrived at 1.30pm for lunch with six other family members. Greeted with a friendly and warm welcome. Drinks and lunch were served promptly. Food was delicious! We weren’t rushed at all. Would definitely recommend

Called in for a drink and a sandwich. We didn’t see the sign which says wait to be seated so our error, however, a member of staff saw we had seated ourselves and didn’t point out we should wait, so we didn’t know we had done anything wrong. There were plenty of tables so we didn’t jump a queue. We sat and sat, eye contact was made but we were ignored. The table had salt spilt over it which wasn’t a problem as we knew they would wipe it when they eventually got to us. After a little while a member of staff who knew perfectly well we hadn’t waited to be seated, said “oh did you wait to be seated, if not , that may be why we missed you”. I apologised that we missed the sign and asked if the table could be wiped and I was told in a smarmy way “that’s why you should wait to be seated as you’ve ended up on a dirty table. A child smashed the salt pot everywhere” as I was annoyed with her unfortunate attitude I said “and yet you don’t allow dogs in. My dogs wouldn’t smash pots and leave this mess”. Wouldn’t return based on her sarcasm and that she made us wait to prove a point. Just come over and tell us we need to wait to be seated. It’s not difficult. Judging by the sarcastic replies others reviewers have been left by the owner/staff member I’m expecting a condescending reply.

A rare visit to Holt after 3pm needing a very late lunch. The breakfast menu vegetarian choice was ideal for my wife - but had finished at this time of day, - but to our delight a friendly waitress accomodated our needs, and it was delicious. Thank you for such service and gorgeous food It made my birthday. We'll be back!

Disappointed with ‘French’ onion soup. Suggests chef googles image of caramelised onions and compare to their offering. Current offering is onion soup. - no french element to it. Basic lunch food looked alright and my partner was happy with his panini. Pity mine was so disappointing.

Popped in for breakfast. Had the Half Nelson, good quality ingredients, well presented. Good value, includes a drink and toast. Friendly staff, will definitely come back.

We were visiting Holt for the first time and came across Horatio's so thought we'd see if they had a table free. I think we got there just before the rush and we noticed that many people had been there before through their interactions with the staff, which was a good sign. The atmosphere was very friendly and relaxed. My husband had lasagne and I had a chicken, bacon, and mozzarella panini, both of which were delicious. We then decided to see if we could make room for the cakes on display. My husband had a very generous slice of coffee and walnut, whilst I had a slice of chocolate fudge cake. Again, both were delicious but we were defeated and couldn't finish them. The price for the two of us was very reasonable, especially as the portions were so generous. We'll be back for sure, as we're moving to Norfolk soon and will no doubt want to return to Holt!

Having arrived in Holt for the very first time, the choice for lunch was always going to be a bit of a punt. We liked the name and, fortunately, struck lucky. I suspect we just caught the tail end of lunch but never felt rushed and were glad of the chance to warm up. A steady stream of customers ordered coffee and this is clearly a place with a solid customer base. The extensive menu offered all the usual British cafe staples as well as some more substantial pub-typr grub. My wife had the cottage pie with gravy peas and chips and I opted for Steak & Kidney pudding with mash and gravy. Both portions were generous and tasted homemade. I rarely bother reviewing but the nasty 1 Star reviews need to be countered. Thank you.

First visit for breakfast and I can't fault the place. The staff were welcoming, polite and efficient. I ordered the Half Nelson breakfast that was beautifully cooked and well presented. The cafe had a very pleasant atmosphere and is obviously used a lot by locals - always a good sign. Will certainly visit again.

Went for a walk into town with my 11 week old puppy this morning to grab something to eat, ended up deciding on horatios to take away and what a absolute ball ache I had 🤦🏻‍♀️I absolutely am aware that horatios do not allow dogs in the cafe, I was happy to stick to these rules, I waited outside and was seen by a young waitress who asked if I would like to order I said can you just tell me what cakes you have, she went in, came back out 5 minutes later and said “dogs aren’t allowed in??” I already knew that and it wasn’t what I was asking, hence why I sat outside with him, I asked again what cakes they had, was left again for 5 minutes before she came out again, she then gave me a very poor description of the cake display leaving me with no option but to go with a fruit scone anyway (because they usually never disappoint) with cream and jam, I waited 15 minutes in the cold for a scone, it came out with no jam or cream, I then asked if I could have some to go with my scone, she came back out with butter and a tiny portion of jam, I asked if there was cream and was told no but a lady sat by the window inside was eating a scone WITH CREAM🤣I found it laughable more then annoying but I thanked her for it and left, scone was good tho so that’s the 1 star but everything else was appalling.

Oh well, another place going downhill, do new owners always have to put their stamp on things? YES, we can always make things better, AKA, more profitable… Chips are no longer crisp in the outside, fluffy in the inside, they are just blah… scampi, like bullets, over cooked with nothing in them… I took it back to the counter to tell them, what did the lady say “you should have told us” really, what was I doing with a half eaten meal, standing at the counter, talking about how poor it was if it wasn’t telling them 🤷… I got my £3 drink for free, so, to sum up, inedible meal £12, Fred drink £3. No returns now, sorry.

We found this restaurant by pure accident and so glad we did. Very friendly staff, well set out eating area and the menu is excellent. Portion sizes are really good and the prices are so reasonable. If you get the chance, try their giant cheese straws. Absolutely delicious. Well worth a visit. We will certainly be going back.

Could not fault this establishment one bit, great food, great service and went above and beyond with a comfortable quiet area where my disabled child could eat and felt comfortable. Highly recommended a**** throughout.

Not very appetising or enjoyable to eat, more like cheap pub food rather than any cafe standards. The people in charge seemed very strange too. Definitely wouldn’t come again much better places for brunch in the area at the same price too!

Lovely little cafe tucked away in the back streets of Holt. Delicious food that was piping hot and very reasonably priced. The pot of tea was also lovely and hot and the staff were really lively. I would highly recommend and will definitely be returning.

Went for mid morning eats. Sausage bap was made from excellent ‘proper’ sausages. My wife’s cheese scone was enormous. We both had coffee and walnut cake which again was substantial. Other couples were sharing cakes as the portion size was large. Regardless of portion size the price was extremely reasonable.

I visited (with a friend) Holt, last Thursday afternoon (December 3rd), wasn't a very pleasant afternoon, was raining, but my friend wanted to take me out, for something to eat and drink, because my Birthday, was two days later (December 5th), Horatio's, was recommended to me, by my mum, after she had been in Horatio's, one afternoon (recently), with her sister, twice before (recently), me and my friend, had been to Holt, but Horatio's, had been closed, on both occasions (because of the current world health crisis), but last Thursday, we were glad to find that Horatio's, was open, was good to be indoors, we soon forgot about the unpleasant weather, outside, my friend had a Cappuccino, and I had a cup of Tea, and a slice of Lemon Drizzle Cake, both me and my friend, were very impressed with Horatio's, the staff were very friendly, I liked some of the paintings, which were on display, on some of the walls, in Horatio's, I also liked the portrait of Horatio Nelson, last Thursday, was the first time I had visited Horatio's, I will definitely visit again, in the future.

Fairly standard cafe in a nice little town. Nothing wrong with any of its offer. But nothing great either. Standard menu for a cafe/light lunch type menu. Reasonably priced.

We come to Norfolk and Holt 2-3 times a year and always make a point of visiting Horatio's . The staff and food have always been superb with the cake selection and the chilli being great favourite's of ours , our last visit was in August and once again we found everything to be superb

We lunched here on 13/10 whist visiting Holt. Good menu with lots of choices and very good Covid procedures in place. Food quality was very good and excellent portion sizes. My wife wanted a crab sandwich, no crab on site but no problem. A quick visit to the fishmonger down the road by a member of staff and we were sorted. Nice friendly service and very reasonable prices. Special praise to Georgia our waitress, she was incredibly busy but was excellent with everyone. Would gladly revisit.

Visited for lunch after a wander around the town looking for somewhere for lunch. Found Horatios and were delighted with both the food and the service. Crab sandwiches are on the menu when crab is available, I asked and although they didn’t have any in they went to the fishmongers down the road to get some. That’s what I call service. Delicious too. Our waitress Georgia was exceptional in her professionalism and friendliness. She was excellent with all COVID rules but lovely with it. Made us feel very safe and welcome. Highly recommend.

We stopped into Horatio’s whilst we were visiting Holt last weekend and I’m so glad we found it. What a lovely little cafe! The staff went above and beyond, even making a little portion of food for my 3 year old that wasn’t strictly on the kids menu. Food and drinks were delivered super quickly and were fantastic portion sizes. The team had implemented lots of COVID-19 measures too and were doing their utmost to keep everything running smoothly. Horatio's was recommended by a member of staff at Bakers & Larners Depart store HOLT. Staff were very friendly busy but chatty between customers so conversations took several minutes. Wide choice of food/tea-coffee. Food helpings very generous and well presented. Holt, in general, being an expensive town, very good value for money.

Holt is full of overpriced and pretentious establishments catering for the pretentious Londoners who descend on the area each weekend to stay in their second homes. Horatio’s is an exception, tucked away for those who call themselves ordinary. Here you will find ordinary coffee, better than ordinary cakes, hot chocolate and tea. The interior would benefit from some sort of refurb in the next few years.. in the meantime this is highly recommended.

In a town beset by overpriced swank, this place is a breath of fresh air. Superb quality of homecooked food, decent portion sizez for the bigger appetite (I can rarely finish a meal!) and lovely friendly staff. They're doing it all right. Their staff are the best I have found for covd observance and it's all very efficient but unobtrusive. Beware, during those restrictions there is no loo, use the ones in the carpark!)
