We cannot recommend this great lunch/coffee spot in Leith enough. We were fortunate enough to live above this buzzing cafe for x3years. Always busy, always friendly a great atmosphere. Fantastic coffee.... you can’t go wrong with a visit to La Cerise. Claire who owns and runs this cafe is a credit to the warm and friendly atmosphere she has worked so hard to create and keep.

I live very close - lucky me! The cakes are divine(the brownie melts in the mouth), their bacon roll is large and very tasty and the coffee is the best in Leith. Brisk friendly service in a lovely atmosphere. I love this place. Only downside is the short opening hours. (Closed weekends. 7.30-3.30 weekdays).Due to my working hours I only make it on my holidays but I suppose it maintains its novelty status for me. Well worth a visit!

I was raised just across the road (store clock building) and this was our newsagents shop in the 50s and 60s (Laings). It was quite strange to have lunch here after all these years. Laings was kind of like 'Open All Hours' with sweet jars, magazines. cigarettes, groceries everywhere. A dark cave of a place although I was always aware of the amazing ceiling! Now a bustling café with friendly staff and lovely food. Well done!

I started buying cakes, tarts etc from manna house bakery around 10 years ago, they were fantastic. Then all of a sudden they all became nowhere near as good. This was because the lady who made them had left to open her own place with her partner, this place being La Cerise on junction street. I was very happy when I realised I could get these treats again, the cakes and treats they make are beutifully made and all taste fantastic, their ice cream which they make themselves is also fantastic. For anyone looking for a nice treat to sit in or takeaway La Cerise is definately worth a visit.

I'm sitting eating some of the most delicious and tastiest cakes that I've had in a long while and I just feel that I had to share this with everyone. We all need a treat and the best ones are those we secretly give to ourself. Le Cerise is one of my secret treat to myself, it's like my spa in pastries heaven. I love the way time slows down, my breathing becomes easy the madness outside seems disappear and everything becomes normal with the smell of coffee and the aroma of pastries and cakes. I can almost literally feel the Love, Joy and Happiness that went into the making of my cake. What pleasure it is to sit here and become one with my secret pleasure. This is a delightful place to spent sometime with some friends having some of the most delicious pastries cakes and I'm most definitely having the ice creams now that it's spring and summer is knocking on the door.

I see that I reviewed La Cerise in 2012. I have been back a few times since then as I like their soup, but service is always slow but when I popped in today it was back to a new low. I waited for at least 5 minutes, 2 people were working behind the counter (no idead what they were doing as they werent serving anyone that was waiting) and another person was standing at the till having a chat with someone. There was no attempt to acknowledge anybody waiting in the queue or apologise for the wait. In the end I left without getting served. The food is nice when you can get served, but they really need to get their service sorted. If you are looking for takeaway food then go somewhere else. I see from other reviews the sit-in service is also slow, so I guess the moral of the story is if you are short of time avoid La Cerise!

There are few cafés in the area and La Cerise have good business. Their food is good, but service is real let down. Considering the number of staff who are serving, and that most orders are simple, or even ready, I find it difficult to comprehend why the average wait for your food is at least five minutes! The staff are friendly enough, but service really is far too slow.

Not wanting to partake in the greasy spoon cages along Great Junction Street on this occasion, we popped into La Cerise and were very pleasantly surprised. There was a variety of sandwich options and some nice salads, plus cakes and buns if that's what you're after. The cold drink selection was also good as I do not go in for sugary fizz. We had a tuna nicoise seeded sub which was nice but would have been better with some hard boiled ago and a bit more mayo, a ginger beer, grapefruit fizz and a roasted veg panini which was delicious. I think it all cost £8.50. The queue was long the seats came and went.I would definitely go back.

The owner also makes all of the ice cream that is sold there, he buys his fruits from the local fruit supplier in his neighbourhood. If you are in the area of the Royal Ship you should make this a stop, even if just for coffee, that was excellent also and very good prices at that.
