Excellent Italian restaurant with service that's attentive but not intrusive. Seafood is particularly good. Ate here twice in a 7 day stay nearby which must count for something.

We love Italian restaurants and always try to find one when we're travelling around. La Piccola might be the best we've ever been to in the UK. Food and service is brilliant; so good that we went back again a couple of days later. A real gem in this small Welsh town. Superb.

This is the third time we have eaten here. We ate here with our adult family. The staff are friendly and efficient. The food was superb, full of flavour and a varied menu. All of the family commented on how good the experience was. Having read reviews and noted the young male waiter was good we endorse the comment as well. Well done.

Have dined here several times and always had a good meal but this time it was sadly disappointing. Service was excellent t it the food let it down. Whitebait starter was tasty but tiny. Tomatoes in the caprese were tasteless. Had duck for the main which was a bit rubbery and sauce was disappointing, plus could have done with some vegetables. My wife’s fish was also lacking in flavour. Tiramisu was lacking in flavour and a bit watery. Really sad as have had really good meals here previously.

The food was very good just as well as the service upstairs was non-existent - we never saw the same waiter twice and had to ask why the long wait 40minutes between starter and mains - blamed on serving a party of 15 - we gave up waiting to be offered the dessert menu or coffee after another 20mins as the dog with guests 2 tables away got more attention than we did

We ate here for a family meal in memory of a relative who died recently. My partner and I have eaten here before and wouldn’t return out of choice, but we went with the majority vote. The male Italian waiting staff are arrogant and unfriendly. The female member of staff and the younger male waiter were polite and helpful. The food is ok, but nothing special. The calamari starter for £8.95 is a very small portion of approximately 6 rings. My linguine with king prawns was average, the crème brûlée was nice. Other mains chosen were calzone, spaghetti carbonara, risotto and pizzas. Next time we’re in Monmouth we’ll eat elsewhere.

Went in without a booking for a pre-theatre meal and they were able to find us a table. The decor is both classic and pretty. Plenty of choice on the menu for a vegetarian. Both of us really enjoyed our pasta and then had a fabulous tiramisu. The staff were attentive and service a good speed. We will definitely be back!

Excellent ambience and great staff who were very friendly. Roberto appeared to be the man in charge during our Valentines Day visit and he was very courteous and helpful throughout our meal, The restaurant was nicely decorated and very cosy. An ideal place for a romantic meal. We look forward to returning in March 2024.

After a long day cycling and walking, we arrived around 5.15pm without a booking and were offered a table and seated straight away. the decor was lovely, the ambience was relaxing and seating comfortable. The waiters were really welcoming, attentive and efficient but not intrusive at all throughout our visit. We ordered lasagne, pizza and arrabbiata and they were all delicious. They were all served together, piping hot and were generous portions. The prices were reasonable for good quality food and service. Would definitely visit again. 😊

Visited La Piccola for lunch today as birthday treat for my wife. Treat is the right term. Excellent in every respect - convenient location, lovely setting, superb food ,nice ambiance and terrific ,pleasant service . My wife’s ravioli was spot on and my hake was exceptional. Having now found such a special place will ensure we become regular customers.

Food was ok, and atmosphere busy. We were only offered one drink despite having empty glasses most of the time were sat a second wasn’t offered. I’d also mention the waiter took my empty plate as I took my last mouthful he was that fast! No way didn’t they notice we had empty glasses. Tried to get their attention but not much success. Found it strange how a chef came out of the kitchen wearing rubber gloves, go in the till handle a load of cash and return to the kitchen… hope he put fresh gloves on, cash is filthy. Bet he wore those gloves all evening 🤮! It was as much as the waiter could do to speak to us. Didn’t feel welcome at all. Glad to leave and get a drink as I was so thirsty. We may retry in the summer and see if it improves.

So far my first few days of Welsh food was disappointing so decided to try Italian. The pizza was thin and nice and the pasta was flavourful! Just very grateful we finally found a place that’s flavourful than pub food ♥️ Reasonable price as well

Great place on the High Street. Much bigger on the inside than it looks from outside. Great atmosphere, excellent staff with just the right level of attention. The quality of the food was excellent too. An extensive selection of very authentic Italian cuisine. Not expensive considering the quality of the food. We'll definitely be going here again!

My meal was lovely my parents was covered in oil, curdled eggs and disgusting the oil dripped out the bowl of her spaghetti carbonara. Manager said we couldn't do anything about it as no one checked on our food so wouldn't recommend eating here again.

Good and bad points. Food was awesome but one person in my party had pizza, I tried a piece and it tasted chemically, not nice at all. Atmosphere was great but on a winters evening at the top with cold air blowing in and to have an air conditioning unit on the floor blowing straight at me was far from ideal. Would I go back again? Yes, but I would not sit upstairs towards the back and I definitely will not order pizza again. The other mains and starters were perfect.

Nice ambience, nice and busy but food quality let it down and a tad overpriced. I had the breaded goats cheese salad as a starter and wasn’t very nice, frozen and deep fried but the inside had a strange consistency. Staff very attentive. I booked lunch here for two of us. From greeting us on arrival to service throughout our visit, it was extremely slow. The food was delicious and the surroundings attractively decorated.

We visited Monmouth with friends on a Monday in November and were looking for a place for lunch. We only expected to find a chain or pub open but stumbled across this restaurant in the main road. There were quite a few people already eating and we ventured in. What a find. Starters were really lovely, 3 of us had scallops, which were beautifully cooked. I’m not usually one for pizza but decided I would have one, it was also delicious and my husband had fish which was perfectly cooked, unlike some that we both had in a De Vere hotel two days earlier. If you’re in Monmouth and like Italian food, do give this restaurant a try. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed. All four of us came out singing it’s praises and, we eat out a lot, so we’re difficult to please if food is mediocre.

Wasn't quite sure on the decor. Generally food was quite good, however the tiramisu was very average as was one of the starters we had (tomatoes and mozzarella balls). The restaurant was about 3/4 full on a Saturday but our meals felt we were rushed through (we arrived at 7:30 and left at 8:30 having had 3 courses in that time) bill was £75 for 2

Great for romance, family, solo dining - lunch or dinner. Setting is italian-themed and decorated to a high standard. Food is incredible. We've been coming here over a year and never had a poor quality meal. Everything freshly-cooked, wonderfully presented. The staff are attentive, kind and friendly. Restaurant easily accessible as it's just a short walk from main Monmouth car park. Don't miss eating here if you're planning a visit locally!!

Discovered this place as we had an hour to spend in Monmouth (charging car) loved it, unusual decor, friendly staff, great food, great busy atmosphere for a Sunday afternoon.

Busy place that’s not as small as it seems. Apparently the only decent restaurant in Monmouth. Traditional Italian fare, well cooked from fresh ingredients.

We had a very nice meal here. The decor is bright, comfortable and very pretty with attention to detail. The staff were friendly and the service was quick and attentive. We enjoyed every dish we ate and prices were reasonable.

Service and food were exceptional. We visited 11th September. Very young male waiter who is slim and wears glasses, was extremely attentive and helpful. An asset to the restaurant. Would definitely recommend. Outside terrace is great place to eat.

Perfect pre-theatre! Music was a bit loud when we arrived (and not very relaxing), but they turned it down (and changed it to a more appropriate genre). Can’t fault food or service, and the price was around what I’d have expected to pay in 2018. No hesitation going back next time.

We just popped into this place while passing through Monmouth - we'll be detouring again whenever we get the opportunity in future. What a find. Great atmosphere, friendly and efficient staff, and most importantly, the food was out of this world. Thad the Bolognaise, one of my favourite meals, and it didn't disappoint. Just the right balance of flavours leaning on the rich side in just the right way. Perfect portion size, just delicious. My wife had the linguine a Gamberoni, and was equally impressed. Obviously, highly recommended.

We’ve been to this restaurant many times up to 2020 and allways enjoyed the food. This week we have eaten there 6 out of 7 nights. Brilliant everything they do is excellent. Well worth a visit - superb pasta and pizza with sweets to die for. So pleased they have kept going after the pandemic - but not really too surprised such is the quality of the food and service

What a lovely little restaurant. We stayed in Monmouth for three nights and our choice of eat out food was here. Italian food, served by Italians, with Italian music playing. A real authentic experience. Great food, great service, 100% recommended. Returned with friends and all remains as I remember 😊

On holiday and decided to visit this restaurant as menu looked very inviting. Interior of the restaurant is nice, on entry we were shown to a table and given menus. We were not asked what we would like to a drink until we chose our food which is unusual. Garlic bread with cheese was nice and the calamari was ok. When my spaghetti bolognese and my daughters carbonara came I couldn’t believe the pasta was not fresh. I’m not Italian but make my own pasta at home or buy fresh from the supermarket. Fresh pasta is the least I would expect from an Italian restaurant. My husband had pan fried seabass with king prawns, neither of the fillets had crispy skin, no one wants to eat soggy fish skin. It wasn’t a disaster but I wouldn’t rate it anymore than average and the service wasn’t great, it was if they didn’t want customers on a quiet Wednesday evening.

We found this delightful Italian restaurant after bussing it into Monmouth for Matts Birthday .We were totally blown away by the food and exemplary service .And vowed we would go back.On our second visit we brought our Daughter Alice we were delighted to see that despite the two month break from the time we last came that they remembered us .We were not disappointed the food fantastic .service fantastic restaurant fantastic . Visiting Monmouth for the day, got a table for lunch. Fantastic place, food delicious, waiting staff very friendly and efficient. Sirloin steak superb, ravioli really yummy. Other half had tiramisu for pud, best one he has ever eaten, panacotta lovely. Food made with love, thankyou.

You’ll need to reserve a table, being the only good Italian restaurant in the area. I would have preferred a bit more whitebait for my starters but the rest of the meal was good. Service was nice and the prices were reasonable.

La Piccola Italia is a must-visit if you're in Monmouth. I've been to a few Italian places in the Monmouthshire area and have not been that impressed so far with both price and quality but La Piccola Italia puts the rest of them to absolute shame. In terms of atmosphere, it is definitely a cozy spot. The restaurant is not massive but it is well decorated and is a very intimate setting. You might find it difficult with a large group here as it would be a tight squeeze. The customer service was fantastic. Our wait staff was very attentive and friendly. We could not fault the staff whatsoever. Food-wise is where La Piccola Italia shines. Nearly everything we ordered was fantastic, including a lovely selection of starters. I particularly recommend the Salmone Ripieno if you're a fan of smoked salmon like me. The only thing I would say is that I would skip the Antipasti board next time I visit. Even though it was tasty, the selection did not have as much variety as I had hoped. However, after 2 visits and different choices both times, it doesn't seem like the kitchen staff can put a foot wrong. If you enjoy Italian food or even food in general, I highly recommend La Piccola Italia.

We had a great table in the upstairs dining room the staff were very attentive. Some we very new but they were friendly and accommodating to our parties requests and dietary need. The food was as good as always as were the drinks and excellent service expertly overseen by the boss. We had a lovely evening and would recommend this place for excellent food and service.

In Monmouth, very few good restaurants in the town, so booked this one on the first night and rebooked for the next two nights. Typical Italian with an extensive menu, average with Food, wine and drinks about £50 head. Cheaper if you just go for the Pizza menu or fewer courses! We did tend to push the boat out.

Decent food but the service was extremely poor! We booked a table for 2:00 and as soon as we arrived we were told impolitely “we stop serving food at 3” before we had even sat down. Then as soon as we had finished eating the bill was put on the table and seconds after we paid we were told by the waiter we needed to leave as otherwise the staff don’t get their break which he mentioned repeatedly. I thought this was extremely rude, I completely understand they need a break but that is not something you moan about to paying customers, that is a problem you take up with your manager and if so they should not have let us book a table for 2:00 if they shut at 3:00. I found this really unprofessional and rude as we had just payed a substantial amount of money as a table of six. Wouldn’t return.

Very good service. Chef was very quick as we didn't have to wait long for our meal. Pizza was huge and delicious. My calamari and salad was scrummy. Lovely gin and tonics too.
